Ok, here are some (i hope) long-awaited WIP pics of MY Mantis Warriors ok, first here is my WIP jump pack command squad. The Banner Bearer has a Roman Eagle, which I am particularly proud of as its seems awesome, yet practical. The eagle is from pegasus miniature gothic chapel. Next is my partly finished assault squad, The armour is mostly painted, and they should be completed by monday. Then comes a close up of one of the assault squad members. And here is the chaplain who will lead my force. And this is a close up of his freehanded mantis symbol, its my first ever freehand, and I think it turned out quite well. I apologise for the blurry pic. Sorry Gits, I apologise for the wall of pics/threadjack. C&C is very welcome and appreciated. DISCUSS MY MODELS FOR THE EMPRAH!!!!

It's OK DE, I guess I have the main Mantis Warrior thread going, so everyone who makes one get's at least one post.
I'm sure that as the project continues, he'll start his own P&M blog so that he can get specific feedback on his models as opposed that being all jumbled up with mine. When you finish though, you're welcome to post a pic here of the final result. And be sure to post a link to your thread here so people can go check it out.
I like your builds, very dynamic. Love your take on the Mantis Warrior badge. The armor could use some highlighting and a wash of some sort, but I assume that's what you had planned all along & just hadn't gotten to it yet.

I have 2 solutions....
1. not post any updates for a while- this will, unfortunately, make people less interested as you haven't updated for a while. This happened to someone elses bolog and most people got angry at him tough, but I'm sure this wont happen to you.
2. create a *NEW* Mantis warrior blog and not tell anyone so they have to find it themselves.
Personally though, I wouldn't worry about it.

Right, right. Reading is for books. The internet is for pictures (or if you go by the meme, its for that other p word).

Thanks everyone! Still have some cleaning up to do where I got a little overzealous with the lining. Funny thing is you can't really see the gradient at all, but if you look at the figure from the top and then from underneath, the shades of green are really different, but the gradient just kind of disappears from the sides. That may be the lesson here. I picked up a new airbrush technique at a class at Adepticon, and while it does work great, it tends to mute the gradients (while making them seamless). So I may need to make my lights and darks more extreme in order to get a noticeable color change.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Lovely so far! Whats with the brown on the feet though? Not too sure about that...
What? You never heard of Mantis clodhoppers?? Actually I usually do the soles grey, but since the entire base is grey I decided to try something different. Once I finish painting him and get him off the pin, I'll set him on the base and then make a decision about the color of the soles.

Well, I *know* the gradient is there... it's just not very obvious. New technique works really slick though, I must admit. Easy too. If I'm brave enough... I plan on doing OSL MajorTom11 style... if I'm brave enough. Probably a bit more subdued than his Grey Knights (which are fab) but using the same techniques.

Gits,
That Plasma dude looks like the business. It's no mystery as to why your greens look so good. I think you should go for the OSL on him. Although it can be intimidating, it isn't really that hard to pull off (that's what she said) and I think you have the brush skills and patience to achieve a solid OSL technique.

Wanted to show off a bit of BLACKHAND's work. His Sabre Legion was the first thing that really made me realize his sculpting genius. By comparison, I was as involved in his blog every bit as much as some of you are involved in mine.
This little diorama, his part of our trade... depicts me as the Sabre Legion soldier, leading to young scouts (my boys) in a training run. The amazing thing is that we were just beginning to get to know each other at the point when he conceived and built this models, yet it is so perceptive in bringing my relationship with my boys into focus.
Really remarkable... Thanks my friend! I hope you'll enjoy what I'm planning on making for you as much as I enjoy having this.
Proud to add them to the ranks of my Mantis Warrior auxiliaries.

Thanks Gits, I'm glad you and the boys like the models (glad they survived the trip!)
You say I have some skill at sculpting but it pales in comparison to your ability to write such an entertaining blog, one that seems to have been read by nearly every Dakkite!
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with bro, but take your time and enjoy building some post-crusade Mantis Warriors first!
