The spikes are from when there were 8 segments per 90 degree corner, to maintain the shape of the firing port either side of the vision slit ( the idea being you would take cover behind the vision slit plate then lean out and rest your gun on the lowered part either side of it when it was time to shoot). 8 segments was basically too fiddly so now we just have 4 segments per 90 degree turn (22.5 degrees each).

i just came...

lol outside of dirty pants, if you received a request for 30mm bases would you fill it? because i wouldn't mind basing my Khador forces on a sweet Acrylic base instead of figuring out how to make "Scenic" bases >.>

Sure would!

A little over the regular 25mm but certainly doable.

Been playing with toys

We're almost ready to launch, got a couple of modifications to make to the gate and we're good to go! Please note this little setup is made of various prototype bits (some of the corners, the heavy weapon tower, etc) I had to hand that we've made over the past month or so, so some bits won't be in the final sets. We need more corners and towers!
[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.49.48.jpg]
Now where's the bugs at?

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.49.58.jpg]

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.50.28.jpg]
Old tower, some old corner parts

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.50.49.jpg]
Everything lines up nicely :D

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.51.26.jpg]

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.51.40.jpg]
3 corner pieces, 4 make 90 degrees

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.51.18.jpg]
Closed gate

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.52.02.jpg]
Should be wide enough for a russ with sponsons. We'll have to test it with a land raider.

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.52.16.jpg]

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.52.33.jpg]

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 20.53.21.jpg]

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 21.03.42.jpg]
We'll be altering the big support and tower slightly to better match the heavy weapon tower.

[Thumb - 2011-07-07 21.03.31.jpg]
So the tower will come back slightly and be supported by a strut like the heavy weapon tower with space for little men to run through.

The gate looks amazing! I really really like it! I think my only gripe I might have with it would be that it currently doesn't allow for units to smoothly move from the barricade walls, to the area under the towers around the main gate. Since there are the diagonal bracers in the way. I feel like having a walkway through there would be very beneficial game-play wise.

Also, am I correctly seeing this? The gates slide open and closed with that lever in the back? That is beautiful!

Yeah if you look at the pics of the new heavy weapon tower there's a space between the support struts and the wall for men to fit. As Ed was working on the tower today we'll be modifying that bit on the gate tomorrow to match it. The new tower works perfectly for little plastic dudes!

And yes the gate slides open via the little lever

Fantastic ! I think the gate is letting down the overall piece though, i think some more research into sci fi doors would help this look great, it needs some depth in my oppinion , i found some pics to illustrate what i mean.

i realise that adding to the door would be impracticle as it moves in ond out of its housing but you could add depth by subtraction. i think it needs depth becuase it needs texture fro the paint to adhere to.

Spoiler:

Loving the overall feel to the piece though and the gate towers are wicked

Would still like to see Vee Plates for the corner pieces and, and for the front of the towers to have the invertable front plates, or perhaps just a range of replaceable front plates for the towers so you can mix it up a little. Seems like I just like making more work for you guys.

Nothing like adding more work to the mix!

I think the nest is in a 'done' state - as you mentioned, we can always add to it later once things have settled - offer a V2, V3 etc. I'm also trying to persuade Harry that we need the little armour plates on the corner as well!

Thanks for the reference material you posted Neil, I'm sure Harry will be all over it! As with most of the projects we work on, we get the rough idea on the forum and then you guys tell us how to refine it and make it 'what the community wants', I believe Hazza is working on refining the gate house today so I can laser the revision at some point today.

@neil101

Just for you we'll add a load of detail engraving like on the tower. Unfortunately adding 3D detail isn't really practical without making the gate really thick, but some nice engraving will show up if you spray the bits. This is the MK 1 gate to test the concept so there's more to add yet. You should see the files for the large aquila gate with raising wing mechanism we've got drawn up!

@Asylum_Inmate The front of the tower is 1 piece so we'll do replaceable rather than invertable plates. This setup is made of various stages of development so some bits are missing, particularly the v plates.

All being well we'll have enough parts cut for a full compound to paint up this weekend.

I don't believe it Ninja'd by Ed!

Really like the heavy support tower

One thing that you might be interested in thinking about making is some kind of shield pylon that you can clip onto the wall.

Interesting you should mention that silver - acrylic rod has already been ordered, but that's already letting on too much

Well I suppose what we had in mind was quite different but sort of similar xD

I was thinking more along the lines of something like the braces you have on the towers which just hooked onto the wall, with some small squares/circles which stuck onto the sides to give a kind of stepped tesla coil type of gadget to pass the forcefield/laser/etc along to the next pylon

If that makes sense...

This might be a bit of a daft question, but how do tanks look behind the barricade, can their weapons still be seen over it without difficulty.

Would it be possivble to make a platform that a tank could drive on to so it can "man the walls" so to speak?

Like parking a bunker on the line.

Just read the whole thing start to finish. I have to say reading about your journey so far has been amazing, you developed a truly great range of products as far as I can see.

I had a few questions. You mentioned earlier that you could either do the resin bases or for a fixed price you could sell a mould so you could make you own. The question is if that choice is still available, if so does it have to be a custom design and lastly would you be able to offer a similar mould for Rhin.. I mean APC doors?

Suggestion wise, apart from the APC door mould was if you were to perhaps offer a few more mechanical designs within the Tech range they could double up for necrons, Adeptus Mech and SM chapter like the Iron Hands. After the barricade system is complete perhaps a venture into some city terrain, I'm thinking hive-city style, which would easily suit both the Necromunda and Infinity crowds.

Last question, will you be offering custom engraving on the gates for the barricade system, because every time I see photos of it it just screams Arbites precinct to me and I would love to have my very own Precinct 13 .

Thanks for reading, sometimes we can't believe it's only been a few months since we first said hey, we should make some things

The APC doors are an idea we had early on, it's still on the list of things to develop. They will be up on the website as a customisable product option in the near future (we've got a whole load of stuff we need to get on there) but they won't necessarily have to be a custom design, we'll be offering them in most of our design ranges. If there's something in particular you had in mind, fire us an email at orders@warmill.co.uk and we could go from there.

And funnily enough, just yesterday we talked about different engraved gate plates. We'll be offering them with designs from our other ranges or with the option of being customised so hang on in there. They'll be up on the site very soon...
