Ok, so it wasn't my worst experience, but it was a pretty bad one for a redshirt. I went in there with my younger cousin to kill some time while we were waiting for my sisters' flight, and during the 2 hours we were there he ended up getting into a really good conversation with the redshirt's girlfriend, who met him at a bar later that night and came with him to my wedding 3 days later. Needless to say, we are no longer welcome at that location.

On moon miranda.

I've had rather few poor experiences truth be told.

However one sticks out in my head.

This guy who showed up to the store tourneys every other month comes with an attitude of basically he knows all the rules (but knows them wrong) and gets super pissed whenever something bad happens to his army. He brought several different armies over the course of almost a year. His first one being Tyranids where he steadfastly maintained that his Gaunts granted a cover save to his Carnifex and Hive Tyrants, and got very angry when people tried to point out that this was not the case. It goes on like this pretty much every time he shows up, nobody enjoys games against him, and by the end of the day he always looks like someone pissed in his cheerios. The prizes are done by raffle and gets annoyed when he doesn't get anything.

He has consistent major vocal rules issues just about every game he plays (trying to demand that his lascannons, despite their fire originating from the front arc must hit side arc since that's all he could see, but without the 3+ cover save for angled fire, throws a profanity laced fit at a 14 year old over Calgar's pass/fail Ld rules calling him a blatant liar, demanding that any immobilzed skimmer was dead period, refusing to play a GK player he would have tabled with his CSM's because of the DH armies special rules, etc) and then finally after several events he faces me in the last round of a store tournament. We were using the Battle Missions, so nobody was too happy with the missions, however he had the best of all worlds in deployment and turn order, but every time I would harm one of his units he looked like I just ran over his cat, and would argue for cover saves for having two of seven guys hidden or for tanks firing clearly *over* (not through) other units, spending lots of time looking up rules and reading, then proceeds to do all sorts of derpy things like not allocating wounds properly, playing his Chaos Terminators as though they were Fearless (didn't like it at all when I pointed that out to him) etc.

Finally during the game I just stop playing seriously and just roll dice at whatever I see. He is clearly agitated about time, wanting to rush through the last 3 turns in 15 minutes despite very vocally wanting to stop his previous game at turn 4 with about the same amount of time left. The game ends in an objectives draw. Fine, whatever. We end the tournament and go to prize drawings and the event ends.

He then goes on to complain about how slow games went and how the TO always seems bothered to have to deal with rules questions. When the TO responds that if he played in a more sportsmanlike manner with fewer rules issues that time might not be a problem, he blows a gasket. After we respond basically pointing out his past behavior and issues (the stuff above) he goes on a tirade about how I went out of my way to model for advantage and how I was apparently changing Leman Russ weapons every single turn (without bringing anything like that up during the game of course, only after he gets called out) and stalling for time and ravaging another player who spoke out about his behavior for making huge measurement errors and says he always looks pissed because of the rampant cheating, basically addressing none of the complaints and instead just slinging mud, the store manager finally decides enough is enough and asks him not to return to the store.

A terrible experience really that I hope not to have to endure again.

Oddest thing was at the Toulouse store, last summer, with a lady friend. We passed by a table, a guy drops a single dice in front of her, picks it up, and proceeds to say something about being terribly sorry and incoherent blubber from then on (about 30 seconds of it). She thinks he was hitting on her, so she just nods, and walks past him to my side.

Other than that, I really loved, in 2000/2001, the Oxford street store and Swansea store - the staff was just ace. As I left the Oxford St. store I heard my father say, "600€ on miniatures? Fawk". While at Swansea I just picked up a Vindicator to make up for it. And some more Tactical Marines.

OT, can I still get a snyde remark at Samus?
Kidding. I just hope you don't go over the same thing - not that you probably didn't deserve it, but because it's a rotten feeling I wouldn't wish for anyone to experience.

There is one guy who I love, I asked him about the new Dark elves around the time they where set to come out and he talked to me for ages about them, showed me his copy of the new codex, some of the new model figures. It was how a staff member should be.

That's pretty much how the ladies and gentlemen working at my local GW in Gothenburg are. They are always happy to see people walking into the store, and everytime I've entered the store, they've always asked me if I need any help. IE last week I had a hard time to choose vehicle for my Imperial Guard army. Then this guy comes up to me and recommends the new Manticore set and the new Leman Russ set. He said he thought there's nothing cooler than to have a looted rocket-shooting vehicle in his Ork army. In my personal opinion I think stuff like that is really fun. It's not always about yourself - what you play and are looking for - they tell stuff about themselves aswell.

The only negative experience I've had was... Hmm.
One day I was gonna buy the new Hellhound set for my army. I entered the store, said hello to the black shirts, went to the Imperial Guard section. But then I see this guy heading to the checkout with the last available Hellhound kit in the store. Nothing too bad, but that's the "worst" experience I've ever had at the local GW.

I met this one guy who seemed a little off, but he was also a new player. He kept scratching his butt and smelling his hands. I didn't let him touch my models. He kept getting snippy about my drop pods, saying they were lame and stuff. I dunno. I still think they can work. Anyway, I thought that the didn't scatter, but I read that rule wrong. Also, I knew that only half would land on turn 1, but I thought that you get the rest on turn 2. I now know that you have to roll for the rest. But it was my first time with drop pods, and I'm learning.

He kept arguing a lot. Like he knew the rules, like when he tried to say that all of his nids had the "Without numbers" rule. He kept talking to his dice. He said he punished one of them by eating it...I didn't ask how he got it back or which one it was. He did pause everytime he said "Let me roll for scat...ter." *shudder*

Anyway, I told him that I had to go wash my hair and packed my stuff to leave. In my haste to get away from him, I think I left my shrike that I painted. I called and asked the store manager, but he hasn't found it, yet.
Hmm, this sounds familiar...

I didn't play marines, so I had no idea how drop pods worked at the time. BUT THAT"S NOT IT! When he was deepstriking, he would never roll for scatter. I asked him why he wasn't rolling for scatter, "Yeah,uh, drop pods have a special rule."

So yeah, naturally I lost the game, on account that it was my second game. It's okay though, I stole his kayvaan shrike model, Bwahahaha. Don't leave your HQ on the floor next time, douchebag!

Worse expierence i had was @ my local GW when they had a GW store by me. I was playing a small game with a friend. Then this little kid came up and grabbed one of my mini's. I was like, " dude, thats not yours." The manager, who was a good friend of mine basically asked where the kids mother was. It was rosie o'donnel walking it saying" Kids go ahead and touch what you want." THe friend(the manager) walked over and nicely ask mr o'donell to please ask your kids not to touch the minuatures in the store. They are for people over the age of 13. She flipped out on him. She started to say, how dare you speak to me like that, you have no right to tell what my childern what to do..." I honestly stood there and laughed the whole time.

My worst GW experience was a month or two ago....

Basically it was just me and my dad at home and my dad had to go to a meeting at work. So he said "why don't i drop you off at the GW store (which is on the way) and pick you up after my meeting?" I agreed and my dad dropped me off and said he'd be back in about 4 hours.

So i got into the GW store and see what i normally see, the regualrs playin games and painting. From what i hear these guys are here ever day, well every day they aren't at school/college whatever, they're in there everytime i go, and i often hear them saying things "ooh, remember that gaem yesterday..." and "i'll bring my orks and play you tomorrow" so you can gather they're in there a lot. So i walk in and the GW guy says "hey, what are you here for today then?" i reply "just to play a game or two" then follows a small exchange about what armies i've brought etc... At the end of this he says "you'll just have to wait a bit, the tables are full atm". So i walk over to the game that looks closest to finishing and watch.

After twenty minutes or so it finishes. I reach for my celebraations tin, packed with tyranids, but two people (the regualrs) get there first. I say that i was about to play and oferred to play one of them but they said they had reserved the table after the previuos guys had finished. Basically this goes on and on, the regular people getiing games beofre me, and although i talk to the GW guy about this he says wait and continues to say this even when i explain that my dad'll be here soon. He didnt even let me clear the table where the AoBR was being shown off, which the other store worker lets us do. So all i did for that two hours was set and read the planetstrike book! :(

Im basically blaming the GW guy for not saying "hey this guy has been waiting for a while and you guys always come here" or clearing the table and the regular kids (who probably play more games in a weekend than i do in a month) for hogging the tables.

Hehe the kid stories get me...

I cant believe some parents will drop their 12/13 year old child off at the store and leave him unattended for hours. I understand that some kids are mature and will do fine, and once they prove themselves mature i have no problem with it. Untill then tho, parent really need to accompany their kids into the store...

One FLGS i played at had pokemon card day on saturday morning, there were parents dropping off their 8 year old kids and leaving them there....

Eventually the manager got annoyed with it and put up a sign saying, "children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent at all times unless they have manager permission".

Meh i have the opposite problem in my area. 90% of the gaming stores do "40k and fantasy" but they have ZERO fantasy crowd.

Luckily i found a store that does fantasy mostly and has a decent crowd their.

The worst?

A 12 year old throwing up a couple of Happy Meals over a gaming table right next to me. Feth the smell, I made that table along with everything that was displayed on it, including a mutated hag tree and the best custom trees I ever created. The hag tree was sealed with varnish but they had to dump the table itself and most of the foliage. Two weeks worth of work down the drain.

Though the guy that had to wash the Beastmen army had it even worse.

I haven't had many bad experiences in my local GW stores, though never really frequented any FLGS, there was always a closer GW who would have more stock, though there was a hobbyist store which, while stocking prestiguous amounts of plasticard, rods, balsa wood, stamped plastic sheets and the like, was more leant towards train set enthuisiasts than anything else. There are however, a couple of things that stick out for both the best and worst.

Most of my best experiences revolve around my old GW in Grimsby (20 mins drive), who had a very laid-back attitude to the shop while at the same time being really friendly. They also stuck a big fan on at the back of the store and propped open the door on hot days so the smell wasn't too bad. One of the GW's where the mantra of making a store welcoming and that the longer people hang around the store the more likely they are to buy something has been really fulfilled, though you really if ever saw a manager on the shop floor . One thing in particular stands out, which is when my boyfriend bought a Basilisk and we got it home and found the wheels were missing. We took it back, and got given a new Basilisk no charge. He now fields a Basilisk and a Earthshaker Cannon Platform.

Worst experience I ever had in a GW was when I moved up to where I am currently in bonny Scotland, and went into the local GW (20 mins walk, oh yeah ) and was just looking around and saying hi, hoping for the same kind of atmosphere and welcome as I would have got from Grimsby. Ooohed over some amazing Tyranids in the windows which had me considering whether a third 40k army would be feasible vis a vis money and space, when someone comes up to me and starts talking about Warmachine. Myself, being a clueless newbie on anything non-GW related, went "Oh is that the one with the small models?" confusing it with Warmaster. At which point the redshirt, who had been listening in to this, gets quite aggressive and states they don't allow talking about Warmachine in the shop (making me incredibly confused) and if we want to do that, we can get out. I'm feeling confused and upset, the other guy leaves in a huff, and I'm ignored for the rest of the brief time I say in the shop like some kind of pariah, despite asking for an explanation.

Needless to say, I didn't really go back into the shop for a good nine months, until I saw someone new in there and went in. I bought a WD subscription, looked around, chatted happily and complained about my previous experience. I got an apology from the guy, even though he had nothing to do with it, and told that indeed, this person was no longer working there. Since then it's become my local in truth and I enjoy going in there for a quick catch-up, to see if there is anything new (I got to oggle the new Seekers before they were released, though after they were up for pre-order ). The manager is a joker and great with the kids, actually able to keep them under control without the screaming tantrums. Also highly entertaining for the adults . The other is always up for a discussion on models and armies, and has a real passion for the games which really shines through.

Also, I've never really had a problem with the "omg a girl" thing. Perhaps I'm just not enough of a looker.

And....to add a 4th story to this thread. =p

I played in a BMF (Baddest Mother F***er) tournament this past weekend. Single elimination, 1500 points. I brought my Dark Eldar; took down two space wolf players, a chaos daemon player, and an IG player and landed at the top of the heap as the winner.

No issues during the tournament, had a great time....

And afterwards, a couple of people who weren't even in the tournament started complaining on the local forum that I was a douche for bringing a tournament list and only entering the tournament to win, promising that they would never voluntarily play me, that their friends won't play me, and that I'm not welcome in the communty. I'm Shelix on the forums there if you want the entertainment.
