I'm trying to find the cheapest place to order an Imperial Bastion, and I'm not having alot of luck.
I can find (some) bits for it on Feebay, & various online sellers, but I'm not seeing alot of choices for the whole kit.
Wayland looks to be the one with the cheapest price and shipping is reasonable. I won't use the Warstore, peroid.
I'm done with Neal and Co. Besides, with shipping Wayland was cheaper.
Thoughts?

I only ever use Wayland or Darksphere for my online orders, they normally work out at roughly the same price. I don't know what the shipping to the US would be like though...maybe check it out?

Checking now! Thanks!
Wayland was 2.5GBP, which is pretty good.

Ray, who runs the shop/site, is great to deal with and offers 20% off retail for most GW products and a flat $6 shipping rate for all orders. I have been using his site for a few years now with out any problems.
He also has a big presence over on Bartertown if you want to check his feedback there.

Scratch Darksphere. This was at the top of the page:
+++ Please note that we have made the decision to no longer ship GW products. They will continue to be available in store and to be ordered through this webste for shop pick up +++
As much as I would love to come for a visit.....

1- The store, as its name describes it is a shop, i have no more loyalty to them than i would have to walmart, GM or Ford.
2- Since he is ordering online, i dont think the store`s appreciation is an issue genius.

The Bastion is a great terrain kit with tons of detail and moving parts.
Not to mention that with some smart modelling or use of magnets you can make it modular.
Well worth the price.

Also, not all local stores have gaming space, making them financially irrelevant as all they offer is higher prices and no shipping wait.
If a store has gaming space and runs events, I'll buy anything under $100 there. More than that and I can't ignore a 30% savings, my father raised me better than that.

Sure, if you don't like/play there and save money. Why not?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

It makes the most sense to patronise the business that does the best job of getting you what you want, the way you want it. Being local only has an impact on that if being nearby is one of your requirements.

Why are so many people insistent that local stores all have gaming space?
Some people have NO local stores, some people have local stores with NO gaming space or support.
Not everyone is blessed with a GMI or Games Empire.

Do you buy everything localy? Get you food from a farmers market, never go to a supermarket or mall? If so fine, if not you can't say anything. People have diffrent prioritys. Most play at home, have no interest in playing against anyone but there friends and hold the product? What are you going to learn from rattleing a box full of plastic?
As for where to buy, I thought you had loads of online shops in the US? I have heard good things about the war store, but as it is in the US I have never used them.

I thought Wayland/Maelstrom or what have you are unable to ship GW products outside the EU? In which case you will have to find a US based online retailer.

filbert wrote:I thought Wayland/Maelstrom or what have you are unable to ship GW products outside the EU? In which case you will have to find a US based online retailer. They are only barred from shipping to the Southern Hemisphere, with Oceana being the real target behind the embargo. GW's markup in Australia is massive, so they want more of that money instead of people buying at any given lower rate. The cost of a GW kit at wholesale is roughly 51% of the retail price. So here in the US, a $35 box of goblins costs the store about $18 to buy(it may be higher now than it was before, but I am using a unit whose price hasn't changed in quite some time for this example). So GW is making $18 on that sale, $35 if they sell it direct. Clearly in this case they would prefer to sell direct. Now take Australia. That same box that GW clearly makes money on at the $18 wholesale price is now retailing for $55. So now GW's wholesale price to retailers in Australia is $28, a 50% increase in revenue, and quite easily most of that extra $10 is pure profit, as the cost of the kit after overhead was only $18. GW doesn't manufacture in Australia afaik, meaning they price according to the cost to produce in the US or UK, which is where they get that $18 wholesale price from. They then ship the models in bulk to a distribution center in Australia, which I guarantee doesn't cost anywhere near $10 per box. So even if you ignore the profit from selling direct in Australia thru the web and GW stores, they are making 50% more per box sold by not allowing other companies to ship product sold online at a discount to Australia. Oddly enough, I recently read that the Australian govt may be going after GW for breaking some kind of anti Trust/ competition law since GW operates stores that are in direct competition with other sellers, yet GW bans those stores from importing the same goods that GW does. I can't remember the specifics of it. At the end of the day, GW wants every penny they can squeeze out of a rock. The current GW AUS pricing was made back when the AUD was weak. Currently the AUD is only $.02 behind the USD. Since GW doesn't believe in lowering prices regardless of exchange rates, they left them alone(and I'm sure even raised them) at the prices they were before the AUD caught up. I could MAYBE understand the price difference if it wasn't for the fact of GW having a major distribution hub in Australia, but even then the shipping should never be part of the retail price for something bought online. Interesting note, according to my local GW Manager who has been with the company for 4 years, in 2011 the Australian market was the most profitable of all GW regions. They were in fact NOT responsible for the highest volume of sales however. GW is gouging, but apparently Aussies are buying. The lessen here is that Australia won't get a price break until they start voting with their wallets. If GW AUS was the least profitable, there would be a major change.

I don't know why the US would be banned, the cost for wholesale here is pretty close to the UK price, and we have our own production center.
Then again, US buyers have no need to buy from the UK, as we can get the same or better discounts here with cheaper shipping.

i too have become fed up with Neil at The War Store, and i use BETTER alternatives.
www.chaosorc.com
Chaos Orc has 20% off everything with reasonable shipping. he doesnt always have everything in stock but he does carry some older and oop items. plus he is the only site in the US with a shopping cart. he also sells Flames of War CHEAPER than The War Store.
www.miniaturemarket.com
Miniature Market has 25% off GW with rewards points. They have a flat rate shipping but if your order is over $99 UPS shipping is free. They ship stuff pretty darn fast and i have yet to order anything they don't have in stock.

The only trouble I've had with thewarstore is with orders being held up because of back ordered items, which were shown as in stock on the site. Then of course I didn't get an email explaining that my order was being held up, which I didn't find out until I called them 2 weeks after ordering wondering where the hell my package was.
Turns out that my $60 of paint was sitting on the shelf because a $3 bottle of liquid masking was on back order. They felt nothing wrong with that. I then told them to refund the whopping $3 and send me everything else, then yelled at them to properly update their site.
Not a terrible story, but not a great experience. Better communication on their part would go a long way.

i WAS a long time War Store customer but as Aerethan has mentioned they have gotten really BAD at telling you stuff is in stock only to have your order sit for weeks because they really don't have the item in stock.
Their staff outright lies to you when you complain to them.
My last 2 orders, less than a month apart have had issues.
My first was a Flames of War order, just getting into the game i thought id try it out, so i called my order in and asked if it was all in stock and was told it was and i recieved tracking info shortly after. When my package arrived 1 item was missing and took half a week before it was shipped to me.
my second order was a mix of GW and Flames of War, once again i called my order in so i could make sure they had enough ZVEZDA Katyusha BM-13 and was told that they only had half of what i wanted but would get the balance in the NEXT DAY and it would ship the NEXT DAY.....2 days LATER i call asking why my order was not shipped and get some excuse about being backordered in half a weeks time.
Half a week goes by and my order ships, when i recieve my order once AGAIN its short models. I call to ask where my Ork Bomber is and their story changes in MID EXCUSE from " a computer stock error" to "not shipping damaged product". i ask when my model will ship and they say half a week.
so if my order was on hold for a backorder MAYBE someone should have picked my order so that when my backorder was filled it could have gone out right away rather than sit there for 2 days like it did before it was shipped.
this is not rocket science, i worked in shipping for a company that moved quite a fair bit of product each day and this is quite un-acceptable.
i cancelled my Ork Bommer before it was due to come in, and ordered it FOR LESS with Miniature Market as well as the new 6th edition rulebook. i then qualified for free shipping, go me.
