MajorTom11: I'll order a bunch when I place a new maelstrom order and see what it gives; time to expand my modelling skills a bit I guess - and the fact that you can clean them up easily is quite reassuring for me

Atre: Glad you like'em! As for the blood: I'm going to experiment with washing/gloss varnish a bit and see what it gives; red just isn't my colour though. There's a few different layers on the klaw, but I guess I could still improve a bit on it.

I know arterial blood is darker, but dark blood tends to look caked on (I know, that looks black after a while) instead of fresh on a mini, and the bright red looks more dramatic. the blood splatter is a good idea though, definitely going to do that!

monkeytroll: word!

Gitsplitta: I could easily make a piston for demonstration purposes, but I don't know wat kind of info/pic you need; what's unclear in the pevious pics?

It's just one part actually. How are you able to attach the piston ends to the structure while retaining their ability to rotate freely?

I cheat

The cylinder part has a T-bit with some rod through, easy enough.

The smaller bit of rod is loose in the bigger cyilinder. The end of the smaller bit has a 'pin' attached going sideways, wich isn't glued to the ramp but is fitted into a socket on the ramp itself.

So how do you keep the pins from working their way out of the structure (i.e. wiggling out)? Or do they just not seen enough movement normally to have that issue?

Anvildude: "Honestly, it's kinda refreshing to see an Ork vehicle that doesn't look like a rainbow threw up on it."

A tight fit . They fit quite snugly in to the socket, and the pin is pretty long.

If you want a more solid attachment, I'd suggest adding a t-structure like I did on the piston bottom, or drilling a hle through the end od the rod and putting a pin through. I thought it'd be too fiddly, so I didn't bother on these, but I guess you could if you wanted to be sure.

Also, the length of the rod matters a lot; if it's still in the tube by a decent bit when fully extended, there just isn't enough room for the pin to wiggle out.

Could be the photo, you have very good points on all counts. I like the dark to light scaling of blood 'cos it apes the real thing, but bright is eye catching and might be a better way to do it.

Khaine,

Stop being so awesome. You're making my painting ego feel small and impotent.

Great work as always! I look forward to seeing your army finished one day. Maybe if I go to Denmark again some day, I can talk my wife into letting me go to Belguim for a bit (She's from DK).

Have you thought about making the main colour blue and the trim orange for a model?

Gitsplitta: Thanks! The blue adds some life to the orange IMO; and it's thanks to the encouragement I got here that I went ahead on the blood, and I'm glad I did!

The Good Green: Thanks! Good light helps

Heffling: don't be so modest, I've seen your pics and they're more than decent; Denmark and Belgium are a few 100 kilometers apart, but I'm sure we can arrange for something. When it comes to construction, the army is moving toward 'playable at 1750' state, so after that, it's painting full speed ahead!

Finch claw: Why? I don' think the effect would be as striking, and I don't see any model where it would fit to invert the colour - turning a grot into a librarian might be pushing it

So, minor update: a finished burnagrot. Enjoy!

Four more to make and I'll have playable unit size!

Wow! You need serious psychological counseling my friend.... (and I mean that in the nicest possible way). Wow.... all that pipe work is truly amazing... I like the choice of the bandaged head... suggests that the flamer *might* have gone off just a little too early on occasion...

Isn't that the whole point? I know I push myself abit harder because I have people to compare to, and dakka is a very creative community. I know I've upped my game because of it . Oh, and working pistons are somethingI'll probably save for my stompa - I'd love to make one that can actually walk

Gitsplitta: as do most of us . The pipe work isn't really hard, it's just time-consuming. I have to admit I'm glad I'm over half for these guys, though. I'm trying to make all their head sunique, and the bandaged one definitely fit the bill

Arakasi: thanks!

Atre: Glad you like'em . A megagrot: about an evening, excluding drying time (I'm a slow painter with a young kid, so painting time comes at a premium). If you mean a burnagrot (the pic highe ronthe page): no idea, haven't finished one yet :(

Commissar Agro: thank you!

Now, onto something new: I managed to finish buldign three new killa kans yesterday, so here's the pics:

I tried to add some poses to the models The one on the right is a stock model, just halved his engine with a magnetised rokkit arm, the middle one is the most heavily converted with the scenic,a nd the one on the right has a scratched rokkit arm. I'll build grotzooka arms for them as well, but that's for later on.

The kitbashed rokkit kan:

And the one squishing the ork:

Maybe I should add wings to this guy's helmet, just for Arakasi!

Let me know what you think about'em, using (almost) unconverted vehicles is a bit weird to me!

Do it! Maybe tilt the kan forward a bit too. It looks like the ork is tripping it. It is kinda weird that they are almost all standard issue...

You know - my first thought was you better not paint that Ork in Da Dark Angelz colours... Wingz and I might not be able to stop myself flying over to settle the matter! (Hopefully its not some sort of bizarre foreshadowing...) I see The Good Green ninja'd me to it!

Is the the biker Nob head? It looks a bit large for the boy body - but could just be the camera angle...

The Killa Kans are great models (even if I haven't assembled one yet and just use them for bitz!), which lend themselves to looking good with less conversions. And they still all look unique - which is sorta the point. I try to make my first of any new model not *too* far from the stock - just to get a feel for it Your next 3/6 will probably need more conversions to continue the diversity though

The Good Green: I must admit it's very tempting . The kan is tilted back because that makes him look like he's posing, proudly standing over the fallen ork.

Arakasi: As soon as I knew I was putting an ork under there... I'll be on the look-out for approaching skorpion-deffkoptas The head is from the nob biker, because it was the only one that had the right expression to it. It's a tad big, but the angle biggens it even further- it's still in the 'ok' range irl

As for the kila kans: these are models 4-6 that I assembled, but if you don't feel like cutting up the legs, you're pretty limited when it comes to posing. You can still make them look very different with the shoulders and arms and details so...

Finch Claw: of course, he's an ork!

As Arakasi said, they're still unique models so no problem with an almost vanilla build there, I really must pick up some of those kans soon.
Tend to agree with The Good Green about the angle of the kan squashing the ork, it looks a tiny bit awkward, but that could well be the angle of the pics, you have the real piece in front of you.

And, yeah, that is the point even after a few weeks here I'm looking harder at my work, or more like looking longer, when in the past I would have said 'done..next'.

moonshine: I even improved the revenge a bit

monkeytroll: after a good night's sleep, I agree with you and The Good Green, so I decide to change the kan's stance. It did involve breaking off one foot at the ankle, but nothing gs can't fix . Now he looks a lot more like he's leaning in, putting his weight on the ork.

I also added some wings and a feather for some dark angelz iconography. After both of our armies are finsihed, I really want to play Arakasi

As you can see, the pose is a bit more natural from all angles now.

And to finsih off, the squished ork, desperately struggling to break free:

I would have loved to add the really big wings to his helmet, but they didn't fit properly on the base, so I had to settle for smaller ones instead. Let me know what you think!
