I like the base but yeah...it could do with being dirtied and blackened a bit.

Nice basing there Gits! I wish I could spend that amount of time on bases for my guys, well worth the time.

My only question, where is the giant 'M' cut into the side? (Think Zorro and you will understand )

Consider it practice Cain. I didn't spend all that time just painting a figure base, I spent it trying to learn a new technique. Specifically one that many people have said would improve the look of my figures.

For the libby, how about a light wash of baal red on the axe to pull the colours together a bit, it may make the lightning go a bit pink. Then pick out the points where the lightning meets each other and the blade edge with white, as I think the white is a bit thick.

For the hatch, it looks good, but you could also use salt.

Basecoat silver or boltgun, lay down some salt where you want chips, the spray on brown or grey. A little more salt around the edge of what is already there, then add green.

Rub away salt, and you are left with scuff marks etc similar to how Tom and gd do it.

My fingers ache from allthis typing on my cell... atleast that will have burnt off a few calories.

So many methods... so little time (or skill).

I may have to find some old hatches and do a side-by-side comparison... (or sure, I've got LOTS of extra time for that)...

OK so here is the completed mini-diorama/objective marker. The "Thunder Baron" aka chaos Mantis Warrior atop his fresh kill, made by Gathering Storm. This does not benefit from all the great advice from MajorTom and grey_death... just my first whack at some of the techniques. I really liked the figure GS made for me, so I wanted to see it based appropriately and in a way that it would see the gaming table regularly.

HEY GS... the Baron have a story that you want to share with us??

(or alternately... you might ask WarOne to write a story about him... he's very good and the fact that this is a corrupted Mantis Warrior might give him some interesting plot fodder.) Since the Baron is part of the GMS I think he qualifies.

Btw, tried the salt and hairspray, very cool results too! Watch for my next Crassus Limo update in a day or 2 for pics. It doesn't replace liquid mask weathering for me just yet, but I consider it very useful for extreme corrosion, the quick multiple layering and randomness are ver interesting...

If it's ok I wouldn't mind WarOne to write one. The only info you can glean from the inter-webs is that they suffer from "Insanity". And that's all. So I thought they'd be either be Slaneesh or Khorne worshipers who suffer from the Red Mist much like the Blood Angles.
I also have a thing for Viking-esque names.
