I play 13th company space wolves but I played more often when I lived in new york because it was easier to find players at the games workshop. I played a few times when I moved to el paso and haven't played a game yet since I lived in san antonio. Ever since I started playing I've only seen 2 other female players. I guess there aren't that many of us out there.

My girlfriend walked in on me playing with a friend. She was bewildered, yet seemed at least a little impressed.

I will convert her yet. *maniacal laughter*

I've seen a couple at various clubs in my time, but yes it's true they are in the minority. I think the thing that drives girls away (I know a LOT of girls who are into fantasy, D&D, LotR, they aren't anti-gaming by any means, yet still they avoid GW stores) is something that drives me away from certain GW scenes, and that is the attitude of certain male (usually, but not always, between 13-16) gamers. Don't get me wrong, I know and have had some good matches with teenagers, but I've had some god-awful ones also. I mean, we may as well face it, us gamers are usually 'different', and different is good, but it can be bad. Some gamers lack certain social skills. They boast too much, or look down their nose too much, or smell, or act condescending or rude- in short, immature. I am definitely not saying this about all teenagers- some are really good guys. But as a gamer in a new city, I've found it pretty hard to find a gaming crew who aren't jerks (it's easier to convert existing friends, girls included, than find pre-existing gamers). And if it's hard for me, it's probably hard for girls who want to get a gaming crew together.

I walked in on my girlfriend playing with plastic toys once... But they weren't the kind you could pull out at my local flgs without being asked to leave.

While I agree with the wincing emoticon, posting pics of such an act on this upstanding website would surely get me banned.

If the toys cause wincing, they must be scary or used in a scary way.

I've been a gamer (tabletop RPGs) since middle school, and met my (now ex) husband through gaming. I didn't get started with 40k until after we broke up, and split the AoBR set we'd gotten to play against each other.

What is the big desire to have women involved in the hobby? I mean, if they want to play the game, then great, and if they don't....then great?

Is this because young males want to use WH40K as a spring board for some action? or a genuine desire to pit their minds against the female polar opposite in a table top wargame???

Advice: Enjoy playing the game with who-ever agrees to play with you, go hunt the girls in a more socially acceptible enviroment.....like, not a GW store, comic book shop, or Toys'R'us.

I don't want a sexist environment to keep women from playing games they find interesting. Seeing a woman play Miniature wargames games is decidely rare. I want to encourage women to play as that grows the hobby to a very under-represented part of the populace.

My girlfriend plays. She's a self-proclaimed 'comicbook-nerd' so getting her started was as easy as letting her read two BL novels, playing a game, and then going to check out some product. She's even here on DakkaDakka as of recently.

Really though, I don't see why these threads don't get locked immediately from inception. It's not like anyone needs to know, or really actually cares. Is someone hoping to get a name, number, and adress through a "Anyone know a hawt girlz that play????????" thread? Is the thought of an opponent of the opposite sex really that hard to comprehend? Or does the mental image of a woman playing with plastic soldiers just get some people all hot n' bothered in the loins?

Maybe we need a poll to see roughly how many girls are playing.

Cheese Elemental-Love does not bloom in 40k. Love burns. It gets turned inside out, set on fire, raped, shot with bolters, and beaten with a crowbar.

A: I know a fair few girls who play.
B: Not as many as the men, but its a nerdy thing, big shocker, I think not.
C: Games Day UK was indeed filled with females. Only about a third of whom were non-playing parents.
D: Theres any number of women on GW HQ staff, and one on the 'eavy metal team.

Can I go now?

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.
