Just wondering, is there some fluff that suggests that non-wolf marines aren't supposed to have beards?

hmmm could be but i dont really like bald marines, so...^^
i understod why the things/details are there and for what uses... just all in the groin section is a bit depressing...
seems like there is nothing in the region besides artificial tools...*nudge, nudge, nudge*
fluffwise i think they are cool, and bearded marines look way more powerfull than bald ones!

cheers mate, vik

Well, to be fair, it's not like Marines have much going on down there. With all the hormone therapy they go through at such a young age, I'd be surprised if their stones were any bigger than raisens.

lol, yeah i heard that argument before...steroids gets the grapes to form into raisins...lol

anybody else still figuring out why they now are so into fighting and burning and torturing...i see some serious issues here...

In a distinct case of 'about time,' painting has begun. First up, an honour gaurd. 7 hours of painting alone so far. All that's left is to finish his jump pack. The photo doesn't really show the dirt that's speckled all over him very well. He's a very dirty boy.

This thread just gets better.
FWIW I think the bearded marines look awesome. I'm not really a fan of bearded marines, but it just seems to fit perfectly for your chaps.
I'm totally wanting to do some noise marines in this style now.

Any news on the Dreadnought?

Hi Fafnir
Just found the thread and glad I did.
Love what you have going here, great stuff!

Personally am finding the blue of the lightning claw too strong for the excellent scheme you have. A little of that blue will go a long way against the muted colours.

Yeah, it's a different blue than the one I used for the lightning claws on the other marine. I'll have to add more white to the claws when I finish the marine.

I may have to grab one for myself soon.

Are you going to do osl with your LC's and Power weapons?

I definetly recommend it. Everyone should have it in their bits box, it's that good.

I really don't know. I'm pretty sure I'll do it for the Chapter Master, but for everyone else... not sure. I don't want to draw away from the muted colours and accumulated dirt/battle damage too much.

Oh, and I've completed the fluff for the chapter as well. Although I may add some profiles for notable marines, the fluff is largely done. You can check it out here:

Yes, the chapter is entirely original. The name of their home planet comes from the Sandman comics, and the idea of their association with gallows comes from Odin of Norse mythology (hence the name of their Chapter Master being Asagrim Woden).

As for the conversions themselves, I read up on multiple tutorials on B&C, Dakka, and other sites, and then added my own spin to it all (like leaving the inner thigh portion of the armour unfilled, which I find to be aesthetically pleasing..

Here's Sanctifier Haephestos, the last of the Gallowsmen to die on Petrefax during the fall. Short of his jump pack, he's complete. He was an absolute pain in the ass to paint, but he's still my favourite model in the entire army.

Oh, and for those that have read the fluff, all these guys appear as they would during the fall.

Okay, once more, the third honour gaurd (actually, the fourth modelled, but the third painted). Excluding the jump pack, he's mostly done. I just need to clean up the areas underneath his right armpit and left leg (the wash I use to bring out the mud effects kind of spread the wrong way, probably because the way the limbs are angled).

The goal was to make him look like he's had the gak kicked out of him by something like a Daemon Prince or a Necron Lord or something equally fearsome (hence the massive amount of mud and the broken lightning claw), and instead of retreating, he's about to fire directly into his foe's face with a full on melta. I really did my best to emphasize his eyes, I wanted him to look absolutely terrifying--whatever he's fighting may be the scariest thing in the galaxy, but before he goes, he's going to make it scared of him.

Anyway, as far as mud effects go, this guy is way over the top. Where as the first three Gallowsmen had only one layer of mud, and the second three have two layers, this guy has four.

I'm sorry for the poor quality of the lighting in these pics, the light bulb in my room burnt out, and matainence staff are taking their sweet time fixing it. That lamp is the only light I have in my room.

Oh, and if the new topic heading is worrying you about the future use of mud on the rest of my army, worry not. I only plan to use two layers on the majority of the rest of the army.

It might just be the picture, but you may want to make the eyes brighter, if the emphasis is on that. Anyways, it looks fantastic, as always. How big are these guys compared to standard SM? You said they were truescale, right?

Here's a comparison. It's a pretty significant difference.

I figured that the average GW model represents a 6"/183cm tall person, so the marines are modelled to be around 8"/244cm.

In other words, once they actually get on the table, they are very intimidating.

now with the comparrison shot we can really say how awsome looking they are... with just the character shots one can only say they look really good and all, but now the true size comes clear and whoa...this is a stomping marine^^

every IG or xenos worth its salt would wet his pants when such a marine would pass him by^^

Fafnir, today I raided my bitsbox and made an overloaded (and converted) sm. He's still GW scale, but he's badass.
So as not to jack your thread, I'll pm you a link if you want to see him ( when I post the pics)

The true scale of these marines is great! You didn't really get the right impression of the scale until you saw the comparison photo!

The ones we love the most are the ones who cause us the most pain... I used to think that expression only applied to women, but I guess it fits minis as well

Well, I completed the Chapter Master, Asagrim Woden, and the last of the honour gaurd.

The bad news... it's been almost a week and matainence still hasn't fixed my freaking light, so all my pictures look like washed-out crap (the basic armour tones look fine with my lamp, but it does nothing but destroy the skin tones). I've tried using the light in the common room, but it's not much better. That said, a glimpse is better than nothing.

Anyway, first up, the big man himself, Asagrim Woden. He's suffered most from the poor lighting. All the detail on his face is pretty much destroyed by the piss poor lighting. I have to say though, in person, he looks amazing, and I'm surprised he looks as good as he does.

(IMAGES REMOVED, check next page)

Next up, the last of the honour gaurd. Still have to do the jump packs for three of 'em, but other than that, I'm on to the Executioners.

Note the missing right eye. Poor guy must have tripped onto something pointy.

Lastly, a pick of Woden and his Honour Gaurd all together. Pretty tight fit, but they all look pretty scary.

Looking good. They definately look more proportional when next to standard size models.
