Wow, impressive as ever!!! I'm not really sold on the Manshees, though it's only a personal point of view : the execution (and drawing) so far are awesome! I'm also glad you didn't get the usual "anti-female, fluff-puritanist nazi" flak at your female Space Marines, for they really are awesome (too)!!! I may have overlooked it when (quickly) re-reading the thread, but would there be any chance that you'll cast them for sale?

Thanks for the kind words.
It takes me anywhere from a couple weeks to a month to complete a figure depending on complexity of the design and how much real life intrudes on my hobby time
The female scorpion champ took me a week for the figure except the arms and weapons; the arms and weapons configurations took me 2 weeks :(
That's why I prefer to use to use 40k arms and weapons whenever possible
Kepora,
Let me know if you what you have in mind for Chaos and Tau components. I do have some ideas on the back burner for Chaos(female marines) and Tau(battle suits) that I'll get to eventually.

Battlesuit parts are ALWAYS good, give something to compete with Forgeworld for my dollars! I have a lot of Robert Cirillo's concept art (he came up with MANY of the designs you now see commonly in the Tau army), and some of the heads, torsos, etc. are just far too cool concepts to simply pass up.
Here's some of the pics, I'll upload more later:
I LOVE how he captured the manga influence while at the same time making them, well...original, unique, alien! GW's sculpting/design team obviously couldn't do his work justice at the time; I guess we'll see what they can do after the Finecast switch adn the Dark Eldar work, huh?

I think your female IG are great, but honestly the arms are too big for the sculpts. You may honestly just need too sculpt the arms too them too.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Empchild,
Yeah, I probably should sculpt my own set of arms. But since it's just my own personal project, as long as I can live with them, I can just leave them for now
Kepora,
Thanks for posting the Roberto Cirillo's concept arts for the Tau. Those are really cool. They have that uniquely 'Western' mecha design that's a refreshing alternative to the usual Japanese mecha designs. I love the robot designs for Transformer movies !
I wonder why GW hasn't used those designs for the Tau as a product? If they had, I wouldn't bother trying to come up with my own replacement for the current crisis suit.
I just hope when they update the codex, they will release a new battlesuit to replace the current one. The newer FW suits are sweet but are too pricey for me to build an army with.
I was planning on doing a design based more off the Appleseed Landmate design/configuration with the pilot's leg encased in the thigh armor, like it was described in the Fire Warrior 40k novel.
My initial design criteria for this unit is:
- The design needs to have more 'organic' flowing lines and curves like the Tau vehicles.
- The suit should have elements that makes you think of a samurai to go along with the fire warriors' ashigaru feel.
- A more 'Western' robot design aesthetics, as in the Transformers the Movie/ District 9, rather than my usual Japanese anime/Gundam mecha designs.

Given the fact that Tau are only like 4-5 feet tall and battlesuits are rough;y the same size as Dreadnoughts...I was never a big fan of the "legs within the battlesuit's legs" design. The best proposed method I found was that the pilot gets inside and is tucked away in an almos tfetal position, a screen moving in to cover the eyes and such while they "plug in" to the suit via a neural uplink-basically, the battlsuit's body becomes the Tau's body.
For Chaos, here's a Nurgle Dreadnought concept by Genocidalpenguin from Deviantart;
A Slaanesh Chaos Marine by SDGRAPHICS, also from DA;
A (sadly) unaccredited possessed;
And lastly (for now), a Night Lords champion by warp_zero from Deviantart;
More to come as I find/upload it!

Here's my rough concept for a battle suit. As usual I'll probably make changes to the design as I work on the sculpt, but it's good enough as a starting point for now.
I'm probably going to sculpt these digitally on a 3D program (either Maya or 3ds max) in a month or two. I'll be posting the progress on a separate post since this one is supposed to be for my 'green stuff'

I like the beefed up look of them but not keen on their thighs
You will need to adjust the inner part else they would keep bashing when the chap walks imho

Those tau are way more macho! Nice!
Although i second the upper thigh being to big, he wouldn't be able to swing his arms as he walks, the one on the right looks great though!

Nice Armored Core look on the right fella; incorporate more smoothed areas, horizontal panel lines (BIG in Tau!), and not TOO much exposed mechanical stuff and you'll be good. Also, try to make the feet a tad more hoof-like; shorter shins and longer feet, like Tau legs.

Damn dude, did you draw that?! If you could make the head look more like one of the Forgeworld heads, then consider me sold! Also, might want to make the middle of the chest protrude a tad more; just something I like about XV9s and some battlesuit conversions I've seen.
I uploaded MANY new pictures to the photobucket gallery-far too many to post here! You can check out the whole thing here, but here's a couple of the top pieces:
If ya see anythign that ya REALLY like, let me know and I'll see if I can get you the original artist!

Kepora,
Thanks for the link! The gallery is a treasure trove of awesome inspirations
Here's a Tau battlesuit I drew up as a design study. I gave it sort of a toon shading for my own amusement.
I'm starting to think the problem isn't the design but rather the execution of it into an actual model. The original design is starting to grow on me

I know, right? there's just a charm to it's unique simplicity-though the Forgeworld parts are great, too You're really good at drawing mechanical stuff, btw; major props form my sister and I! (she has a HELL of a time drawing machinery)
And no prob, man! That's a good chunk of my 40k art stash, and I plan to add more soon; I'll let you know when I add more!

Simply beautiful- love the Scorpion Exarch, and will be picking up one after various projects are completed.
Also love the revised Tau Suits- The ones designed by GW were not executed well at all, but your designs look fantastic (especially since I'm a fan of Armored Core as well). Here's hoping they get pushed into production!
Keep up the great work!
