I know that Seanron that the Primarchs were proficient in many types of weapon,but after he became daemon prince he still used that axe.Thumbs up for giving him some ornamental sword.

Sorry to have to leave something besides OMFGMOARNAOPL0X!!1! but Magnus is fighting for the Emperor now? Really? A bit of a shark-jump, IMO. I'm guessing (as it seems left intentionally vague) that Magnus's "for the Emperor" means "against the Imperium." Even so, my reading of the fluff was that Magnus was always more committed to knowledge than to his father (hence his disobedience after Nikaea) and ended up bitterly estranged. Magnus, it seems to me, hates daddy like the red-headed stepchild he is. On the other hand, this:

I don't think it's absurd at all. I do believe Magnus genuinely loves the Emperor (it's written they are closest in spirit bar Sanguinius) and he genuinely did act out of devotion and good faith when he attempted to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery.

The reason is I simply thought of my relationship with my own Father. When I was young, I would do very stupid things with the best of intentions, and my Father would naturally be furious. When I was young I honestly thought I was right, he was wrong and that we'd never get on.

How wrong one can be.

I am now closer to my Dad than ever before, and life without him or his faith and love is utterly devoid of meaning. I believe Magnus would feel the same. Whereas I have had a few years to resolve any conflict I have had with him has been resolved.

Magnus (in my eyes) always felt wronged, but I believe the death of the Emperor would shake him to a realisation; mainly that he will never reconcile with the one man he sought the love and belief of all his life. Oh sure, Tzeentch offered him easy power, and warring with Russ fed his lust for sibling revenge, but Magnus is only human (Primarch or not) and I think the death of not only his Father, but his spiritual creator and closest to kin that he had would deeply affect him.

I know that if I suddenly lost my Father, then I would do my upmost to uphold his memory and spirit, and I feel Magnus will do the same. Magnus was never really 'evil' per se (not like Perturabo or Angron), it was simply the worst situation he could possibly fall in and he made a mistake.

As for commited to knowledge, well that seems to be more Ahriman's memo now, not Magnus. Sure knowledge is important, but Magnus genuinely wanted to prove his Father wrong, but also save the Imperium and earn his Fathers love and respect. That is quite a mighty shadow and dream to just walk away from.

Jumping the Shark or no, I love the idea of Magnus returning in apology to the Imperium, ready to continue to gain his Fathers love and absolve himself of his terrible sins. I don't think he is simply a 2D construct which the Prmarchs get written as so often (Angron gets angry, Russ is the Viking) and I have always felt that Magnus, deep deep down, is still on the right side, even if he doesn't realise it yet.

First off, I don't think any of the Primarchs have to be 2D or that my interpretations of them are 2D. I simply think that Magnus, while genuine about his affection for his father, felt utterly betrayed and am rightfully skeptical that he would overcome these feelings after ten thousand years of daemon princedom. Also, "evil" is not really the correct concept when dealing with Chaos. (I would contrast the Dan Abnett style of writing for BL--plain old good v evil--against the Ian Watson style--bleak, amorality reinforcing the sense of humanity's ignorance.) It's my opinion--and obviously it cannot be forced on you nor am I trying to do so--that your interpretation of Magnus is a bit more BrightShiny than GrimDark.

You need a bit of BrightShiny to counteract the Grimdark :p

He shows the Imperium to be the corrupt institution it is, and also shows that Chaos is not full of just "we revel in being bad, shower us in blood" kinds of guys. If you really want to take a dive into this, read Traitor General of the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

the latest book also works to show that chaos isnt necessarily evil by giving some characterization to some chaos boyz.

I think that Magnus turning good works. He was corrupted by, obviously, chaos, and when something as shattering as his father's death, it woke him up, knowing that he had betrayed the only person who loved him, and being human, he felt guilt. With guilt he wishes for redemption. And obviously fighting against who he thought were his ally's, and fighting for his fathers death will help him become 'good'.
I would love to read a scene when Russ and Magnus meet, and Magnus is obviously so sorry for what he has done, and Russ actually forgives him (I don't think that's possible though...)...then they both Punch Guilliman in the face win

I can see that happening White-Wolf. I wouldnt blame em if they did either. Space Wolves reactions to the situations always vary and are usualy pretty badass or funny.

This thread just keeps getting better and better. Also has anybody noticed by Like ravens from prospero (sorry for misspelling) and the blood red tear in the middle of the raven, I like how you made the blood ravens an successor chapter of the thousand sons!. Keep up the good work!

The whole 'you don't look like a daemon any more' bit may stop Russ instantly killing Magnus, especially if he heard about him defending Terra, but I can still Russ punching Magnus in the face. And Magnus letting him. Which itself is likely to make Russ consider what had happened; hopefully eventually leading to forgiveness on their parts and possibly a bit of standoffishness for their respective legions.

Russ decking Guilliman, highly likely. Magnus? Erm... not sure he's one to do that. Keeping a perfectly straight face while laughing in his mind? Sure.

That being said, Russ is a Space Wolf, and say what you will about them being Badass/funny, they do have a code of honor. Russ has already beaten Magnus, he knows that if Magnus were to stray again, he will beat him again, and this time Magnus (probably) won't have a chaos god to help him lick his wounds. If they confronted again, Magnus would probably be like "Sry bro, I wuz bad" and Russ's response (be it reluctantly or with open arms) would be more towards the side of "Welkum bak bro!" then they both raise a glass to the dead emperor and start steping on Chaos boys. Russ may even ask Magnus to try casting that ultra cool Str buff that Magnus used against Russ on Prosepero to make "Ultra-Russ" and go beat up Angron.

Primarch's (be they Daemon or otherwise) aside, I was also curious what happened to the 4 chosen of chaos. Lucy, Snape(Ahriman), Typhat and K-K-K-Kharn the Nice-Guy (You mentioned he was "stopped" by Russ earlier, but not that he was Killed IIRC). I think seeing the four of them meeting with A-baby-don and forming some sort of Chaos Daemon-Voltron (aka Black Crusade that doesnt suck ass) would be an interesting story to shift the setting to a more "mortal" perspective. (As opposed to dealing with strictly Chaos Gods and Primarchs)

Something to perhaps consider AFTER the Terra Siege (as this substory is already badassed in itself).

Granted, you still have plenty of material to work with for months (hell with these substories perhaps even YEARS) to come. If not for the inevitibility of C&Ds + Lawsuits, I would totally reccomend finding an artist friend (unless you are as skilled with the brush are you are with the pen) and compiling the works into a Fan-Webcomic chronicle of works. Hell, find yourself a good enough lawyer and a Public Relations Major and you could probably spin it to GW as "free press" entitleing them to Most (if not all, depending on how much "charity" you'd be willing to submit) of the royalties.

As usual Seanron I love it. I am very curious as to the effects of the consousness of the rubric marines but I think this is a fun and very interesting twist. I wondered how you would bring magnus into play after you brought him back from chaos, and I do wonder with the return of russ will old rivalries flair up?

I can see them forgiving each other, but never being cuddly bunny bffs forever again (not that they ever were)

Yeah I can see that as well, but I do hope Russ can get all his anger out on him in a single punch so they can at least become 'acquainted' Oh and I do think the flames work well
