I believe Vik requested a picture of the Defiler with with cabling connecting the upper arms to the torso:

They are also magnetized. They are still a bit wobbly, but I will fix that soon enough.

I also had been waiting for a package from the UK....Skulltaker!

I am going to magnetize him too, and have him able to switch between walking, and riding in a chariot!

I still have a lot of stuff to do on it, like take the other parts off of the other sprue, but it should be fun.

Defiler is looking really mean. I'm actually looking for another one. eBay to the rescue!

It's coming along.

I am sad to hear the rumor that there will not be a "Slaughterfiend" option for defilers in the next codex. Let's hope the rumor is wrong.

Even if there isn't, that's still an awesome model and you should play it.

those cabling joints look really cool... BUT... now you have to do a matching "joint" for the defilers head too... to give it a bullsneck look...

Ok, I had a pretty big day.

A big supply drop from Hoard-o-Bits arrived, and I couldn't resist putting everything together!

First off, I was looking for something on ebay...I don't remember what right now, but I stumbled upon torsos for Warhammer river trolls...And I thought what great Nurgle Daemon Princes they would make! The down side was that I didn't know how big they were. But that didn't stop me from ordering one!

I wanted the DP to have wings, so I looked around for wings that looked cool. Again, I didn't know what size they were, but I got them anyway.

They are a bit on the large side for the body...

So, I guess I will have to save those wings for something a bit bigger.
Like the rumored Chaos Dragon in the next Chaos Codex... We'll see.

But never fear, I had some arms from the GW Daemon Prince, so I tacked those on. I also added the screaming face plate from the defiler. And some small but cool wings from the 'Nid Gargoyles.
Strange combination I know...but I think it works. What do you think?

And a scale shot with my other Daemon Prince and a Berzerker for scale.

I don't have one of the Standard Daemon Princes, so I don't know how big they are, but using the arms I used for a comparison, I'd say they are a bit bigger than my two, but they should work fine.

I have a lot of sculpting to add to the DP before it's ready. I have done a little bit. I added some neck to it, and gave it one horn on the top of the head instead of two on the sides.

And did a some work to the weapon:

I also got a bunch of Warhammer Fantasy Savage Orks:

That I want to convert into Plague Bearers! I started by giving them some corroded and pitted swords:

So far I have given one of hem a face and a belly:

I want to add a horn and some belts too, but I think it will work out pretty well.

I also got my Chaos Bikes I had been wanting! AS soon as those are put together, I'll post those too!

Thanks for dropping by<

yes! that demon prince is looking very good! the smaller wings give him that extra look of frailty which i associate with nurgles from a certain kind of angle...

the fat neck you did... the cyclops eyes... that is really stunning!!!

and the scyth looks simply brilliant!!!

Your GS sculpting is really well done. The Daemon Prince is coming along greatly, and the idea for Orks to Plaguebearers is excellent. You seem to have a penchant for taking miniatures intended for something else and hammering them into the new role you want them to perform.

I love the DP! the tiny wings make the belly look bigger, which is always good for nurgle

Thanks guys! I am having fun with the plague bearers! Or, I was until I had to pack up.

I am in the Puget Sound area now. Staying with friends. Tomorrow is my first day at the new job. Nervous and excited.

I will have a space to work on sculpting, if I ever find the time. I am hoping things will calm down after a while and I will have some free time.

Hello fellow Dakkanaughts!

I have been away for the most part for almost 2 years with very little activity here on Dakka, and almost 4 years specifically on this thread. Life has gotten in the way. One of the last things I posted on this thread was that I was moving to Washington for a new job. I may have updated my other thread more recently, but since I want to bring this thread out of retirement, I will update the highlights of the past 2 years here as well. As a sort of apology for my absence, and to bring you up to date.

So, I moved to Washington for a higher (much higher) paying job, all was well for a while, but the hours I got would fluctuate considerably. I'd get 45 hours one week, and then 2 weeks of barely getting 15 hours each week. Needless to say, I was not happy. This went on for far too long, I was looking for other work, but nothing seemed to be open for me. Then in the fall of 2013, 3 major things hit me all in one day: I was laid off from my on again off again job, I was hired on at a company that I had been pestering for well over 5 months, and I found out I had Cancer.

That's right. The first thing was stressful, but a relief in a way. The second was a blessing, but the job was in Alaska, and would be 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, so the idea of that was stressful in itself. And the third thing brought me and my family to our knees.

Fortunately, the Cancer was in one of my kidneys. My kidney was removed, and there has been no sign of spreading or recurrence. *whew!*

The new job has been great! Sure, I am gone from home a lot, and I miss my wife and daughters fiercely, but we video chat when I am gone, and when I am home, we do a lot of amazing things together that we wouldn't be able to do if I was working 40+ hours a week every week.

I don't have quite as much time for the hobby as I used to, it's difficult to bring a lot of sculpting and modelling supplies with you on flights. Things break in checked baggage, and I have already had one sculpting tool confiscated at Security because it was pointy. But I do manage to bring a few things back and forth. (For instance, I now a sculpting tool at home and at work! Brilliant!)

Even with less time for the hobby, I have not been idle! I have been working on a few projects for others, not many, and I am no longer in the business of doing commissions, just doing stuff for friends mostly at this point. I will update my other threads soon I hope, with general (non-chaos related) projects.

But as for this thread, I have gotten a MUCH needed boost in motivation from the new-ish Khorne Daemonkin Codex! Is it everything I had hoped it would be? Of course not, I don't think Chaos is ever going to be what it once was. Competitive? Debatable. Over Powered? Yeah right. Fun? Abso-freaking-lutely!

I know the new dex is not meant to be a "Legions" book, but that doesn't mean it can't be!

In 5th ed. I was excited to get my World Eaters out of a 15 year retirement, Bezerkers looked good, not as good as they did in 2nd ed., but doable. The whole army I had planned looked fun, and playable, I even got a game or two in, and did really well! No sooner than I had a decent Army assembled and painting had begun, 6th ed. came out. Well that just took the air out of my sails. No longer did a Khorne-centric army look feasible. I started looking to the other gods, and other cult units. Plague Marines were an obvious choice. Nurgle seemed stronger than ever. In fact the whole world seemed to be on the Nurgle train. I jumped on for a bit, I admit, but it felt hollow. I knew nothing about "holding objectives" and this thing called "strategy". I longed for the "rush forward and kill everything" days of my youth!

When 7th ed. came out, things looked slightly better. At least you could take a Rhino without it blowing up as soon as the enemy looked at it. And things like my beloved Defiler could last a bit longer too. But it was still a Shooter's game. I tried to be a shooty player, I did! I have almost a hoard of heavy weapons Havocs, many squads of CSM, lots of Plasma Guns, even an Aegis Line with a Quad Gun! But all I really wanted was to "rush forward and kill everything".

Being disappointed, but still not wanting to jump ship with my Chaos Army, I decided to make my army Black Legion. A decent way to get all of the cult units in one army. It still felt wrong, but there you go. I stripped the paint off of my World Eaters units, and vehicles. I was heartbroken, but didn't see a way around it. As of right now, almost everything base coated black.

Then Khorne Daemonkin came out. My heart sang! I was as giddy as a school girl! I haven't actually painted much in the last few years, everything was still gray, or at least base coated in black. So, now, I just need to do a couple of coats of red, and I can begin getting my World Eaters back! I am so excited!

I have been looking back through this thread, and I realized some of my loftier goals with my army were a bit on the “what have you been taking” side of reality. Like 8 Mk I Rhinos? Seriously? I have 4. I’m not getting any more. I may get some of the newer Rhinos at some points, but we’ll see.

So, that is where I am at the moment. I have lots to show you all, I’ll be uploading pictures over the next few day and/or weeks. Let’s not rush into anything here. I’m just happy to be able to post again! I don’t get much time for surfing at work now, they expect me to like work and stuff! Yuck! But I can get a few minutes here and there on breaks and at lunch and whatnot.

Thanks for reading this far, if you have…And I will update again soon!

Later,
R.S. Jake

Thanks for the welcome back guys!

And @ El Vic, yeah, full recovery. Except that the kidney has yet to spontaneously grow back, which is disappointing. I was hoping this would be the beginning of my "back story" where I discovered I had super powers. Oh well. Guess I'm a "normal" after all.

On to some Hobby updates!

Do you remember this guy from earlier in this thread?

He's an old Chaplain form the 90's or so. I had hoped to make him into a "Blood Priest", a Khonate Librarian if you will. At the time, I was just going to use him to buff units and himself in the name of Khorne. But now with summoning, he can bring in Khorne Daemons too! Bonus! I didn't really like the way his axe looked, so I scrapped the idea/

Well, I got the itch to work on him again, and this is what he looks like this time!

There's still a few things I want to add to him, but he's mostly done. For the chest plate I used the torso from one of the riders from the WFB Skullcrusher kit.

Which brings me to my next picture. I wanted Berzerkers on Juggernauts. Even if the rules for Bloodcrushers sucks, I wanted at least one unit to summon if needed. And I'll need another unit now, if I ever want to bring Terminators into my Daemonkin army.

The one on the left, looks a bit static, so I want to repossition his sword arm, but all in all, I like the look of these guys!

And one more segue... I needed a Jugger Lord. This is the guy I'll be bringing in as an ally, since I want the CSM Lord with Axe of Blind Fury, and Burning Brand of Skalathrax.

I'm not really a fan of the Deamonkin artifacts. No daemon weapons? Really? Lame.

These are all going to be getting at least a red base coat when I get home, and then gradually more detail. I've actually been in the mood to paint lately! Unfortuanetly, I started painting some of my CSM when I was still going with Black Legion, so I need to base them red now.

Anyway, that's it for the moment, I'll post again when I get the chance.

Thanks for stopping by,
RSJake

Malika2, the vending machines were made by dsteingass. I know he made resin copies, but I haven't been on in a long while, so I don't know if he made them for sale or not.

El Vik, That little Khorne Shield comes in the Blood Crusher Kit. Lots of great bits in there. Also comes with 4 or 5 Axes with Khorne runes on them for Axes of Khorne in a Daemonkin army!

Thanks Shas!
