Great army pic Gits. I think while skim reading most of the blog I lost the reason you have some marines from different chapters in there?

Those are my trades from the Great Marine Swap thread, but they do fit the "story" for my chapter (well... MY home-brew story... not the official one).

After the Badab War, the MW were sent on a 100-year crusade into the Mailstrom to chase down their former allies the Tiger Claws. They'd lost their home world, so a 100 year running battle across the depths of the space against fellow marines ensued (who were probably better equipped by-the-way, Tiger Claws had a forge world). As a result, their tactics had to change drastically and regular tactical squads lost much of their utility for what became in essence, a protracted gorilla campaign. The surviving marines all became specialists by necessity... and with no new recruits the chapter just kind of hollowed out from the inside.

When the Mantis Warriors were finally recalled, they were in sorry shape and nearly nonviable as a fighting force. An emergency class of recruits were made available from other Astartes' worlds and special squads of tactical marines made up of soldiers from other chapters were assigned by the Inquisition to shore up the Mantis Warrior's ranks & keep an eye on the wayward chapter.

So what you see in the picture is a synthesis of two different armies. The beakies are really part of my badab war era army. The GMS marines and scouts are part of my post crusade or "Mantis Warriors Penitent" army. Some units of course, serve equally well for both. Once I tie up a few loose ends with my Badab era force, you'll see me start to work with much more modern equipment, the specialized MW bits that have been made for me, modern vehicles, etc. These will make up my later-period force & eventually I'll have two completely separate armies representing two different periods in chapter history.

Well, started this thread 4/18/2010. Nothing you see was fully painted at that point. The sniper scouts were partially done but that's it.

@TR: yeah, it's a relatively new addition. Now that I've got my camera set right for the new lights, I'm very happy with it.

Nice pic Gits'. It's always satisfying to have an army shot, like you say, you never realise just how much you've done until you do it.

Awesome stuff Git. I love the full army shots that you provide every so often. When you started this 2 years ago did you have any idea how fantastic you're army would become? Did you meet or exceed your expectations?

I find your thread very inspiring and I'm glad I was one of the lucky 20 to get a spot in the GMS. Keep it up Gits. I'm already looking forward to the 8 thousand point picture in 2014.

Leave it to Ice to ask the penetrating questions that actually take some thought and consideration to answer. The answer to question #1 is no, I did not. At the time I was at my cousin's house for a week or so while we were all waiting for my uncle to pass away. It was a stressful, sad time... but it was also good in a way the my uncle's passing brought his extended family together from all over the country (he was well loved) and gave us a chance to re-connect with each other after 20-30 years of being apart. So, as you might imagine I wasn't sleeping much & needed something to occupy my time. Dakka was a good outlet, but I couldn't actually work on anything, my models being 900 miles away. So it seemed like a good time to organize my thoughts about the chapter that always seemed to be the whipping boys for my eldar (I often didn't have anyone to play with so would run games vs. myself in order to try things out). So I decided to sort them out and paint them up in a way that reflected my feelings for them over the past couple of decades (roughly). I had no idea where I was going... but after hashing out my version of the fluff (remember, this was pre-IA 10), the character of the post-crusade army started to take shape. I'll be honest, there wasn't even going to be a beakie Badab Era army until last year's Adepticon forced my hand. Now I've collected enough of the old stuff to probably field 3000-4000 pts of beakies & associated equipment alone.

I find your thread very inspiring and I'm glad I was one of the lucky 20 to get a spot in the GMS. Keep it up Gits. I'm already looking forward to the 8 thousand point picture in 2014.

I'm very honored to have your marine in my army and to have so many fine modelers and painters in their own right follow this blogstrosity. All of my GMS marines are wonderful gifts that I'll cherish... at least until they die stupidly during some battle and I'll have to read them the riot act. In 2014... if I live that long... we'll have to see. But I hope for two shots with 3000 pts+ of Badab War and Post-crusade Mantis Warriors.

Thank you DE! I'm so very glad you enjoy your marine, I certainly enjoy the one you made for me!

Update:
Well, started working on the assault marines again. Started painting some of the little details and doing the lining. Perhaps a pictorial update will be forthcoming in a day or so.

BTW, just for fun I took that army pic and used it as the background on my computer. Since I'm currently using a 32" wide screen TV as my monitor... it just fits perfectly. Holy smokes does it look good! I think I may have pillow cases and wallpaper made out of that photo.... maybe clothing too.

Hmmm... that's an idea. I can use the proceeds to buy primer, paint, brushes and airbrush needles (which I go through at an alarming rate).

I think that could be pretty cool and I could Direct you to a Screen Printing company that does them really cheap and that way you could maximize your profit while still offering us a lower price for the shirts!

LOL!

I applaud your enthusiasm Cutthroat... but no one is actually going to pay cash to wear someone else's army on their chest! Not even my kids (bless their punkin' heads) would do that. Perhaps if I got a really busty model to wear one for the "promo pic" and put something both inspirational and suggestive on it... like... "Think big!" or "What's in YOUR war chest?"

Nah... never work.

Plus I think it breaks about a million IP laws.

Intellectual Property. Selling pictures of GW models for profit, even if I painted them/modified them... is probably illegal.

I can make and give them away all I want, but when I start making a profit from it, the law views it differently.
