Outflanking emperator titan from a closet perhaps, or a bathroom maybe... yeah that seems appropriate.
From a closet? The Outflanking emperator titan IS the closet.

The Second Seige of Terra
Interlude - Unforseen Consequences
Whilst a man may act with the best of intentions, sometimes these actions, righteous though they may be, can have disastrous consequences.
So it was with the late Gregor Eisenhorn.
He could not possibly know the full implications of his pact with a Dark God; He could not possibly know that to draw the power and attention of one such as Nurgle, the Lord of Decay, The Father of Disease and Grandfather of Suffering, albeit for just a second would have a catastrophic effect upon Terra herself. The Dark Gods are known for their warped sense of honour, and indeed Cherubael had been extinguished forever and Eisenhorns soul was taken in payment of this service. But to open a gateway through oneself for the attentions of a Dark God to seep through is never without cost.
It started quietly, a faint hum of insects infesting a rancid corpse, as a faint black light shone in the sky above the duelling men and Titans of Terra. Fire stitched frantically between the warring hordes of man and machine, and unknown to the huge swathe of warring Terrans, the light grew in intensity. Soon the sound rolled like thunder into to a maddening drone, a constant wailing of the stricken mixed with the wet, chewing and gnawing of vermin as they feast on the fallen. Soon the Light shone darkness upon the ground itself, and everywhere the foul light touched carrion fog rose and foul musk infused the air. By the time the divided Terran forces noticed it was already too late.
The Great Destroyer, Grandfather Nurgletch, had already drawn its vast attentions elsewhere, caring little for the plight of Terra. But the roving eyes of a Dark God leave an undeniable mark upon the Warp, and if the stain it leaves is strong enough, can rupture into reality itself. Although its attention had been only for a moment, the warp around Terra was changed, and it bled like a torrent into reality. The grounds in and around the palace began to crack and sag, a foul black dust rising from the wounds in the earth. Solid rock and steel melted wherever the light touched, and became pools of bubbling toxicity, steam covered pools of oily blackness. Rotten vegetation erupted from scars in the ground, cocoons and puss-filled, pendulous egg sacs bursting to unleash swarms of malignant insects which infested and consumed the very trees that had borne them. Arthritic, palsied claws tore from the blackened pools, pulling behind them stricken, living cadavers streaked in pox and infection, broken and stained horns rising from their heads and a single milky white eye staring from their ravaged faces. They stood unsteadily, and took up a war cry that was both a lament and celebration, a bemoaning of the burden of life and the sweet release of death.
Then as one, the blighted horde began to march into the back of the duelling Terran forces.
For the first time since the Great Heresy itself, Daemonkind marched in force upon the blessed soils of Terra, and the stars themselves wept.

I was wondering if that was going to backfire. It seemed that Tzeentch and Slaanesh already had a foothold, so it was only just that the others would join the party. Although I'm not sure how Khorne would come in, even if he'd be quite amused at Custodes and Grey Knights fighting each other neither is going to provide the energy he'd like given both are so anti-daemon.
I also think something like this may be a very good way of getting a temporary battlefield ceasefire. The GK don't think the Custodes are traitors, just tricked, and the Custodes surely know of the GK effectiveness against daemons.
Skipping back the the prior bit: I have to say, the last two scenes with Eisenhorn are by far my favourite in the story so far. I think it is because I've always been fond of the theme of actually yielding when the enemy gives the dramatic monologue. Normally it is the cue for a valiant last stand, or for the deux ex machina (sorry, cavalry) to come charging in, or the villain to suddenly find the hero is a bit better fighter than anticipated. Occasionally a hero finding the villain a bit better than anticipated and instead of getting killed outright getting into a crippled 'oh sh**' situation. Accepting the reasons the villain gives and actually surrendering is so seldom done despite it leading to so many interesting possibilities, and you nailed it perfectly. And while Ravenor wasn't supposed to be there and certainly not to die (and I did feel his death was a bit... meh, he's in the way so swat him) it only served to make Eisenhorn's next actions so much more believable. Even though Cherubael was suspicious he didn't realise just how much trouble he was in.
While it's good that Nurgle's attention is nowhere near Terra (if it took several legions to hold off the attention of the chaos gods once I think the limited defenders now would be doomed) it would be somewhat amusing to see what his latest pet's reaction would be to see what he had wrought. But I'm just cruel.

Great so far, I wonder if Tzeentch will take this opportunity to get back at Magnus?
Or even better, if the Space Wolves will come tearing out of the portal from the warp (as they were still down there IIRC after rescuing Russ-Man)
Looking forward to the next installment!

Nope, not a typo, it's actualy one of the names that he is known as.
It's in the Liber Chaotica and also ( IIRC) Flight of the Eisenstein. He's also know as Nurgleth as well

I knew Nurgleth, but the "tch" is new to me. I only have Liber Chaotic 4, I'm thinking of buying the compilation off the GW site (or amazon if they have it cheaper) soon. Supposedly my Tzeentch book is a collectors item(?)
Also @ Morgrim, how do Tzeentch and Slaanesh have a foothold on Terra?
With Cherubael, The LoC and the Daemonettes all dead, what more do those two gods have on the planet. Also, would not the forces of chaos tear eachother apart before attacking the forces of Terra, as to claim the planet for their god? (I would think that "The Great Game" outweighs "Teaming up to kill some humans"...)

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

IIRC the last incursion was also lead by the strongest of the Primarchs (Horus) on the side of Chaos. I don't think the Daemon's on there own will stand much of a chance, due to their lack of stability on the mortal realm, and with Abaddon being abandoned like a red-headed-stepchild, the god's really need to find out some other way to take on Terra, which will also be quite difficult as Nurgle himself played a role in the current invasion by removing a Daemon of another god... the Great Game will probably be the saving grace of Terra, infighting is chaos' greatest weakness, easily exploitable and terribly difficult to overcome... unless of course... Horus were to be re-animated.
