bigfish - cheeeers!

Bangbangboom - Nah, I just dipped the blade in some coloured stuff before I started chopping

weety - Shocking I know! And more shocks to follow...

vik - No blending, washes saving the day yet again And too late for hope now, except to hope they don't get bored of the Human Experiment soon.

CKO - Thank you, glad you enjoyed your visit

Gits - Thanks man!

And so moving swiftly onward to avoid the onset of shock....

Finished guys: (dodgy lighting tonight, I'll get some 'hero' shots in the lightbox tomorrow. After sorting the little issues I spotted on the macros...)

DroneDude

Should have spent a bit more time on the drone, but then I guess I'd never finish anything...

Think he's done... I really wanted some sort of view-port in his head, but couldn't get one to work. I tried a bit of clear plastic inside the hole, meant that it was resting on the brain, and reflections killed the view. Tried a piece of clear plastic inside a plasticard frame resting on the head, looked a bit naff to be fair. tried a bit of clear plastic resting above the hole, with the sides coloured to represent the frame, not great, but might try to re-work that.

I'll get better shots tomorrow, might even get joined by a couple more of the usual suspects, then I'd better put a stop to this colouring in business before I get carried away.

Transplant Feva is awesome. Have you thought about filling the hole with water effects, or clear resin, it might look glassy or I suppose it could just look like water? Might be worth a test on a scrap head though.

Cain - Thank you, good to see you again sir, glad to suprise with a bit of colour too Don't worry I'll be back to chopping soon, it's not habit-forming. I can handle it. It's just a cold..

Gits - Thank you! I'll try and get some more finished over the next few days, I realise that they look cooler to everyone else when they move into the wonderful world of technicolour

moonshine - That was never proven, and the courts ruled it shouldn't be brought up again...otherwise I'll have to send 'Boris' & 'Doris' out for a 'play'

Bbm - Had a passing thought about resin but passed it straight by tbh. Hadn't considered water effects, not quite the look I was after, but worth looking into certainly, cheers.....

Chew yer fat is genious , the body is one I havent seen before. Also liking the leather colour of the straps on drone dude. I have to say that the pinkish brain on transplant fever made me shiver ...urghh .. cover it up ! ( looks to real ) then again i cant watch casualty without leaving the room.

Good stuff all round mate. think i need to follow your lead and get some paint in my blog soon

Moltar - Thanks dude! Funny you should mention the brain transplant, having just blown your mind, please step this way....

weety - Just make sure it's a paper bag, not a plastic one Chew Ya fat broke his robo-leg, think it was a dodgy bit of wood that the dok painted to look like metal. It's behind him, but not really visible in those pics, look below

Arakasi - Now don't go giving the spektata's ideas. And I still don't think there's any actual 'groups' that are complete anyway

prototype - I assume ausome is Australian for awesome I believe the sword comes from an old fantasy chaos sprue, not 100% sure though.

neil - Funny, I also find Casualty much easier to watch from another room, preferably another house, but that has nothing to do with the graphic content Chew's body is just a standard one from the fantasy orc sprue, straps were just Calthan brown with Khemri highlights, sepia and devlan washes.

Ok, so here's the better pics I promised, took me longer than anticipated to sort it, made sure there was plenty of light through the windows, got a couple of daylight lamps ready, eventually found myself closing some of the curtains to reduce some of the glare I was getting And it's an overcast day too. Auto-adjusted one pic in each batch. And as per usual, spotted a bunch of stuff that needs fixing on the macros Including the fact I should have dusted them.

The new pics show up much more detail and the vibrancy of your colours. The weathering is beautifull mate , the subtle rust on the choppaz is particularly nice , worth a mention too is the nob in da iron mask, the yellow red combination makes his eyes really stand out, as does the blue tongue on transplant feva , picked up by the turqoise buckle. really too much to mention, but also the highlights on his wrist strap and the bone work , all top notch , thanks for reposting them anew.

Well, that was interesting. Dakka semed to go down just after 03:00, just after I started putting this together. An hour or so later(Yeah, I know, it's not just painting that's slow around here) I discovered this when I hit submit. A classic instance of 'Oh noes, I broke the internet' Luckily I had saved beforehand Obviously I should then have gone to bed and re-tried in the morning.

But that would be no fun, would it? So I spent another hour or so fruitlessly trying to log on(I get stubborn around that time of the AM ). As it was nice and light outside by then I decided the best course of action would be a long, hot shower to wake up a bit. Followed by cooking a decent sized breakfast which I enjoyed out on the deck about 06:30, when it was a glorious morning. And then returned to spamming my internet button and trying to log in again. And now our glorious leader Legoburner has fixed all, all hail Legoburner.

So back to the scheduled programming:

Davidian - I think that'd work on a fair few of da boyz, Zognutz has obviously been studying his TV, just watch his head doesn't turn into one Upzag and GrimSnik prefer to use z'blemonal 'vertizing, where the customer doesn't even realise he's being sold something.
At least, not until they wake up with sore gums and a new shiny part of the body that was old and green when they could last remember.

neil - Thanks mate! Glad you appreciated the better pics, must try and do all finished minis properly Although a few bits got added between the two shoots, things I'd picked up on when taking the first lot Still missed a few bits though...

So, obviously I didn't get that extra guy or two up the other night. And to be honest I don't think either of those two is still completed. Been remembering why I always get stuck at the last details stage and move on Think there's two or three guys done. Have quick final check, notice 4 things which need doing still. Get those done, have another final check. Realise you've only half done one of those things , and notice 3 more. Get those done, another final check, realise the guy you've just done wasn't one of the ones you were supposed to be doing. Finally get it all done, final check. Notice you need to tidy up the last thing you did. Do that, skip the final check, move on to photo-shoot.

Look at pics, notice 5 more things glaring at you accusingly from the monitor.

Look at group of models waiting for more colour to be added to their dull, wishy-washy life. Look at the half-dozen standing precariously on the edge of the desk, hoping they'll get finished - oh that fabled state, spoken only of in the most hushed of whispers - done and moved before the ever encroaching tide of metal and plastic pieces - torn limbs, broken machinery, distressed weapons, nameless gubbinz - pours over them, pushing them to their doom on the far away floor.
Look at the big pile of sprues. Notice the clippers. Pick up the clippers...

Well, I didn't reach for the clippers just yet, but boy, is it tempting Did get a few more done, but really want to finish a few more before geting back to proppa mek stuff Still, I've spent a good deal of the last couple of days off painting, and have finished the details on five models. Oh, actually, 9, including the first lot, that's not so bad after all I was a bit depressed at that figure tbh, that's cheered me up.
I've been playing with less paint layers and more washes to try and speed my painting up a tiny bit, but always hate the photos, looks sloppy. And sometimes it is, to be fair Also played a bit using washes to create colours on things like straps. Say, paint a bunch of straps with tallarn flesh, put a shade line down the middle with red wash, then whole strap gets a mud wash, vary colours throughout. Maybe an odd highlight here and there.

So a few more candidates for 'finished'. Maybe I should just skip straight to photos when I think I'm done and use those to see what needs doing Including three of the original line-up, whose skin I basically re-layered and washed, and re-did some of the other shading. And a bit darker than previous shots as these were done with lamps.

ArdToof 'EadBanga

Didn't upload the pic I thought, where his head-banging pose really stood out. If He'd had a back patch on, I'd have re-done it now with some heavy metal band on it. Keep thinking to try a tiny Eddy on one of the back-patches, but maybe a black and white image would be easier, could try that with a micro-pen...
Wheel needs finishing, teef in mouth and on bracelet need re-touching, base not finished..sigh

DrillaKilla

Bit dark is ol' DrillaKilla, metal high-lightings a bit rough, but loks okay in the hand. Stil not as happy with chipping red as yellow, need to play with the orange I think, bone is to light for use on red I've found, but orange isn't really doing it for me , perhaps yellow next time?

TonkaTink

Just been re-furbished. But didn't have enough teef to get his head re-sprayed. Not surprising really, teef are harder to come by when you've no mouth. Oh yeah, happy with green chipping as well as yellow. Now, blue, blue I'm not at all happy with yet. Realised the red light at the back has a wrong light source.

I.C. Hans Du

Couple of washes still needed, base needs finishing, and the name may get changed

So, a few more are close to completion (I know, you've heard that before right, but look, above, piccies see You're in the Monkeyverse now, time moves slowly in the Monkeyverse ), including Eavy D and Mono-Nob. Both of whom happen to have SM shoulder pads as part of their face.(Don't see that sentence very often outside Dakka)

So I was thinking I'd do it using a variation on the classic dark to light gem style. Now obviously more layers are needed in these examples, but I'm not sure the technique works well for this shape, or if I'm getting the layer shapes wrong. I was thinking a blackstone gem style like Vent's might be better here, but not sure about then having a large black surface area. Thoughts anyone?

Think that's it for now, and although I'd like to get a bit more of that P-stuff done, experience has taught me my colour-fu is poor after no sleep So probably best to just go for sharp tools instead

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Blimey, it might just be my eyes, but they look a lot darker than they did last night. Do they need re-taking?

i read the banter and i see the pics and i am startled... am i on mokney´s thread still? from what i read i still am ...the pics seem from some far away time double of monkey who finally got some serious painting done... the thing about the edge of your table and the floor...this seems to be a thing ol´freud had a thing or two to say about...
haven´t realized that you ued the oneeyed or big visor shoulderpads idea with your cyborks...thats very good looking...specially when you give it a bit of glossy varnish... in fact the first torso^^ and the pad remind me of a certain alien form...i tend to forgett the name of said species...
your I.C. Hans Du now reminds me in a strange way more of captain america...so maybe a steve rogers pun would be a cool idea here...
and your drilla somehow reminds me of a slurpy can^^ for obvious reasons...i am still a bit bugged so that i haven´t felt like taking pics but rest assured that the time will come...

oh did i say how much i love your orks? well i do^^

cheers, vik

Wazzdig Dagga - Why thank you dahling, this year it's all about the big shiny face look. It works well with sluggas, choppas and shootas, comes in a variety of colours to suit your ensemble, and if you polish it up those rokkits will be reflecting like no ones business. Now most are opting for the big, bold statement made by a good old beakie pad, but there's a few daring souls out there going for 'umie pads. Fashion victims or fashion gurus? Too early to tell yet, but we'll keep you posted...

And discovered your blog earlier, very nice

wyrd boy - hey, glad you could drop by and enjoy the show Bit of colour always bolsters the troops what.

Gits - Thanks a lot. Yeah, saw the pics once they'd posted and caught a combination of tired eyes and bad laptop screen angle they're definitely darker, but not as black as I first thought.

vic - Yeah, I know the feeling. Things get weird around here sometimes, but all this colour? It's just not natural. But it's probably coming to a close soon, can't see it lasting Doubt there'll be any painting today, and if I start any cutting and pasting then that'll be me distracted away from those no-good, soft, bristly type knives Captain America? Not sure I'm seeing that there myself, but I wouldn't do a Cap anyway, not after seeing that awesome Kapitan Amerikork (or something similar) on here a while back - been trying to find a link but no joy.
And no worries on the pic front, rest up first mate.

And so to further stave off the slavering hordes of colour zombies whilst I load supplies on my boat....a group shot. A unit shot. Yes. that's right, we have a unit of boyz complete

12 boyz with sluggas and choppas, 1 with rokkits and a nob to tells 'em wot ta do.

And in celebration of a complete squad a small flypast was organised. Well, not so much organised as just kinda happened. Looked nice though, kept the crowd entertained for seconds.

Bionikopta's out in front...

Da Red Kount takes him...

But obviously Bionikopta comes through at the end. Everyone knows a vertically orientated rotor is going to out-perform a pair of jet engines every time.

And a few updated solo shoots of the koptas, mainly beause I can if I want to, it's my blog And let's face it, it's not like this place gets overwhelmed with finished models. If it helps, think of it as part of my first dakka-day celebrations that I never got round too. A late, small part.

Bionikopta

Da Red Kount

What? You want new colour? Go on, get on with you. You'll make do with a bit of second-hand colour, and you'll like it too. Now be off with you...

Oh, apologies for any dodgy layouts I'm providing, still posting from my laptop, and I only get one image across, no idea what you're getting

edit: Although if your posts are just visible as a scroll of single images, scrolling up and down the page gives you a little flick-book type movie of some dancing cyborks

And vik, think it's the blue and silver helmet...
