@Rogue Wolves: Thank you. I really don't like the idea of the black-black skin (plus red glowy eyes) on Salamanders. Given how 40k basically is like rounding up the least mentally stable people from the dark ages and giving them weapons of mass destruction to play with, I tend to dismiss the more over the top stuff from the background as being exaggaration.

Is the meltagun for the Ironclad's spare arm finished, Sigur? It looks like it is green, rather than metallic (or tarnished).

@D.Smith: Thanks. It's just plug&play. With Dreadnoughts, you don't really have to magnetize much unless they are FW.

Yeah, they tried to make me go to barber but I said Mo, Mo, Mo. Eurch, I tinkered around with my Infinity list last night after this terrible beating I got on Thursday but now it's probably time to get back to painting Space Marines. Today the Ironclad Dreadnought and the three Trikes will be finished, no bases for the latter yet though because I ran out of Sandypants Basecoat™ colour.

edit: People all around the house, trying to distract me. Must. Paint. Space Marines...

@Dysartes: Just the regular colour I use for sand bases on the Salamanders. As for the rest of the commission: I just received some very, very nice looking FW and metal characters for that army to paint as well as two alternative heavy weapons guys for the Tactical Squads.

Just because I took the pictures, here's some impressions from my latest Infinity game. As always, it took place at my LGS so there's lots of sponsored terrain:

I'd like to see what that stuff looks like painted up... so it's not so obviously wood looking...

@Gitsplitta: Yeah, it looks rather pretty when painted. As it is it looks unfinished but you gotta admit that the natural wood goes well with the green grass table. Would be great if someone painted it but I'm busy these days so I'd have to be a bastard and ask for money to paint it up.

The Ironclad Dreadnought's banner:

First, a bit of backstory (because people love to read lots of text): This is one of the designs that basically evolved over the process. I knew that I wanted a design similar to the one on Vulkan's inner cloak, i.e. flames with coal. First I considered just sticking a Salamanders chapter icon on top of it but that would have been boring so I went for some weapon instead. Hammers tend to look kind of dull sometimes, especially if they're of the Salamanders kind and the Warhammer-logo-like warhammer might have looked a bit dodgy (weird excuse given the final look of the design, I know). So I went with sword, sticking in the coals (which later was changed to "quite unambiguously thrust into the shapely body of coal").

After a short break I returned and realized that this looks pretty much as much as an 80s heavy metal album cover as can be. The typical moment I often reach when doing something freehand had come: The urge for referencing stuff. At this point it all came together. SM are pretty much heavy metal and Salamanders even more so with all their forges and hammers and that. Then there's the name of the Dreadnought itself that sounds more like a heavy metal band than anything else (well, like a ship maybe but that's beside the point). Puls, the banner as it looked like already. Oh, AND it felt like something people would have entered for the 1993 Golden Daemons so there can't be much wrong with that, right? (apart from the fact that they would have used proper paper banners and would have made them HUGE with daemons on the banner, yin-yangs, naked ladies and so on). So long story short I came up with this:



Anyhow, I hope you like it. I may have to tidy it up a little and of course reattach it but I'm pretty happy with the banner.

Love the back-story Sigur... and your logic is impeccable (as is your painting). The pile of coal idea is pretty cool and going with the sword does give your crew an atypical spin.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much. After painting one battle-damaged SM army after another it's nice to get creative with something for a change. My only concern was wether or not the client may not like the design for being a bit too cheesy or something like that but as it turned out he loved it.

@Cutthroatcure: Jeez, what kind of boards do you people play on if you're getting so hung up on unpainted buildings? Well, I'll see that we get the terrain painted asap.

I'm really glad about the very positiveresonance from you guys. This SOPA thing is serious because it's not just about a to-be-expected decrease of lulz based on populae media or you not being able to listen to your favorite song on youtube any more, this is about existances, jobs, thousands of small businesses around the world. Blackout on Wednesday was a great thing but there still are too many people who are not aware of what SOPA and PIPA are and how these acts with their ambiguous wording open all kinds of holes for the big media corporations to essentially take control of all kinds of media presented, generated and published via the internet. This does not just affect your Lost-fansite or your shrine site to your favorite anime characters (do people still make those?), this afftects the video of your kid singing a pop song, the photo of you and your friends at a rock concert or your facebook-rant about Transformers 3. Last but not least, it affects us who love wargaming and model making in the same way.

Anyhow, I know that this platform isn't one that reaches huge amounts of people but it's become a dear place to me and I had to bring this thing up. Thanks for reading, guys. Spread the word because this is important. I mean we all like the internet quite a bit, don't we?



As to get back to the topic of this log: There will be a regular update again later tonight featuring finished Salamanders characters from Forgeworld. Apart from that I'm currently working on upgrading my workspace, photo equipment and so on so I can deliver you with prettier pictures in 2012 and maybe dabble into video making.

Are these laws just for the US or will they be international? Do I need to be speaking to my MP in England? Can I support you guys in America if not?

reaper its just u.s but if it is passed there then it could be taken up anywhere, not sure on the support thing though
