I mostly go by the names matched with the avatar so switching it doesn't really bother me at all

I'm terrible at names even in real life and am much better at remembering faces.

When you read through a thread, you see the avatar sitting there nice and face-like. I generally don't notice the name at all, unless I really like the post and/or are quoting from it.

There are a few people who I know just by their avatar (as in I know roughly what kind of things they post), and a few people who I can name from their avatar as well.

But mostly I just recognise avatars without particularly associating names to them.

I have to agree with the avatar (I already can't remember the name) who posted about meeting a couple of people from an online forum and finding them really different from their online personalities and thus no longer respecting them. I've met a few people I used to talk to a lot on online forums (I used to play Project Rockstar for about 6-7 years before it was shut down and met a fair few people from it), and a lot of them were really nothing like their online activities made out, and I sometimes stopped talking to them (I guess the magic had gone ).

Though I did meet my wife on PR, so I guess they were not all crazy internet people... *twitches*

I feel the same way. Now I just picture a Commissar sitting at his computer trying to draw out heretics pretending to be a banana.
