I don't want to see it until we hit 9th, where maybe the designers will have lost their magic item allergy.

Think of the runes, man, think of the runes!

VC's kept our powers, and we basically went from our old list of 18 total powers to 14 new ones. Plus, of the 4 powers we 'lost' in the transition, 2 of those were the 'Master' power which allowed you to raise skellies & ghouls beyond starting size. The other two we 'lost' were the 'make your vamp ethereal' power and the moronic 'heres a more expensive Lv2 wizard upgrade!' powers. (basically, we lost 4 powers we knew well ahead of time would be going anyways so it's no real shock/loss!)
And of those powers we 'lost', well, we can give upto 1 necromancer the skellie-boosting ability and we can outright buy proper wizard level upgrades.

I can see GW scaling back in the number of runes overall, but you'll likely lose stuff that either doesn't gel with 8th, and/or get various minor effects lumped into a stronger rune.
And I honestly can't see GW doing away runes and forcing dwarfs into magic items. That would be a gakstorm on the level of what 7th ed Daemons caused!

Personally I expect Empire and WoC this year and Dark Elves 1st half next year. That would mean you are safe for another 15 months at least. A Dwarf miniature release without army book could happen though.

The next White Dwarf has a new Karl Franz model and a Empire Wizard mounted on a two-headed griffon.

There’s a War Altar and new knightly orders too… does that make you go weak at the knees?

What do you think?

UPDATE: We’re hearing that an Glass Lens Weapon (Ala Archimedes) is on the cards as well. – If so will this include some kind of clear perspex component like in the Necron kits?

Two headed griffon? Rolls eyes.

Fantasy has got very silly over the last year.

Fantasy has always been pretty silly. Things got a bit more standardized in 5th-6th I feel like, but crazy has been on the resurgence and I'm alright with that.

Wait...

Cruddace is doing Empire?

Well...consider my interest just having taken a shot to the head. I'll give it a glance, maybe snag a few of the new kits--but unless Cruddace has been given a lesson in game balancing I'll keep Vampires as my primary interest for now, thankyouverymuch.

Hmm Tomb Kings are quite decent in 8th. I'll expect the "mid tier-ness" the recent 8th books have.

Time to prepare to love/hate next week

They also need a lot of work to be properly effective, if that makes sense.

They mostly just need a points cost hike, along with some special rules for Wood Elves to let them remain a mostly skirmisher army.

Brets just needs that points cost hike. Maybe some new special rules, and some better grail knights.

I'm assuming by points cost hike you really mean points cost reduction? Woodies are already incredibly overcosted by today's books standards (12 points for a T3 spearman, really?).

Indeed it does.

Oh it certainly is exciting; no doubt.

But it just means that we will see a big ol' plastic character kit for Empire as that has been the trend lately.

It really is. Here's hoping it looks even half as good. Myself, I'm hoping for a near direct translation of the metal 6th ed Griffon.

I liked that trailer. I actually had a moment where I considered an Empire army, then the thought was immediately beaten to submissions by the thousands of ideas that were waiting before it.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Well alright looks like these guys are almost ready to go. Be interesting to see how the army goes and if the usual build of big blocks of infantry with cannons everywhere will change (I doubt it, but Demigriffs might be a good choice for support)

I hope Lords other than Arch Lectors/Wizard Lords are worth anything

It's 8th edition. Internet "wisdom" decrees that when possible, you must always include a Lv4 wizard or you're doing it wrong!
