I meant "easy" comparatively speaking... I know you'll create some sort of horrifically mutated madness that will do complete justice to the model.

Hehe, that said, you did make me re-do the hunchback- It didnt look horrifically mutated enough, so it got binned and restarted.

Hey all, just a bit of an update, I've finished the Hunchback Goat and the Evil Frog, pics-

As said above, this was the second attempt at the Hunchback, the first was boring. I bastardised a black orks body with a goats head and fur - it still wasnt quite there so I took far to much time greenstuffing his face and neck to look a little more "horrifically mutated" . I'm not sure you can make much of whats going on with these two, hopefully the painting will bring it out.

As promised I have started my Dread- I hope to show a few more wips to document my odd thinking. Anyway... here goes -

I started with a plain Chaos Dread, I had started putting a few bits together but like I said in previous posts, I was quite inspired by Skalks Definer he currently has going on (check it out), and I liked the whole trapped daemon look. I'm glad I didnt pay much for this because- as shown I cut the sacoughagus in 3 parts which was strangely easier than expected. I had made some sort of banner but I decided to change it, I'll fashion a new improved version from a Hellcannon wheel.

Okay this is where I'm up to, my trapped daemon started life as Gobbla squig- onwards and upwards for him then! I cut his back tail off, (which was strangely harder than expected) that isnt the final position of the head, I've just pushed it in there for the photo- I'm feeling a more hunchback look. Oh yea the whirly bit from a SAG? I really like the three globe bits- I'm thinking of pinning them somehow to Gobblas neck, the idea was to paint them to look like them contain some odd liquid that does something daemony!

Heh, thats it for now, thanks for looking.

Thanks, glad you could make it out, white on white is difficult, He'll get some paint soon.

Hello again, I really wanted to try out what I had in mind for the dreads head- I had a little late night modelling fun, pics-

The head is now in the correct place and 3 globes pinned on. They are not bunny ears, they are very important daemon stabilizing errr magic goo pots?

anyway, thanks for looking!

This is an excellent thread, I love the models back in the RT days. I played a game of rogue trader a months ago with a friend of mine at my flgs, he still has the big book with all the army lists in and the rules. It's quite alot different from 5th Edition but it was very entertaining and nice to know where this game started out. Anyway your stuff looks so fantastic, I want to mutate my renegade guard now.

It actually really cool to see how even the old and goofier looking models of yesteryear can look amazing with some paint, creativity and a touch of the ruinous powers.

Interesting dread head. hard to tell exactly whats going on but I think I like it.

I am now accepting commissions for any hobby project! I've been in the hobby since '92. Specializing in traditional brush methods, creating a gritty dark aesthetic. From single character models to entire armies. From individual terrain pieces to entire table tops. From tabletop level to masterclass level painting. From purchasing and assembly to leveling up your assembled armies paint job. If it has to do with the hobby I can do it! Hit me up and let's chat about your project!

@ninja13 - hey there! thanks for your comments - Please do mutate your guard! I love to see what others come up with.

@I33tninj4 - Welcome! Not all the goofy old models should be saved, some are just terrible, yet some I find are timeless and still relevant.

@genom.cor - I'm not totally sure myself what is going on, after some more cutting and hacking- a ton of greenstuff and some paint I hope it makes some sense!

Okay, I had a little free time so here is a small update, pic-

After some umming and arring I decided to go with a more daemony looking arm- this will need a load of green stuff!

thanks for looking

hmmm... now that you ´ve cut up the globes thingy and put it on...i think it looks rather like this now...

@Viktor von Domm- That is evil, what the heck is that thing??!

Hey, at the moment I'm painting up the two havocs to complete the squad. I've also been playing with the right dread arm -

I fitted a heavy flamer and some smoke launchers. No idea where the claw is from, it was in two bits, I'm not sure its ment to be one claw, but it looks okay so I'll keep it.

I've also been playing with some ideas for his banner-

No idea where the Globey bit is from, it looks simular to the SAG bits so i guess its from some old ork thingy. Anyway I thought it kind of looks like some odd chaos clock thing, just having a play with bits so far.

Thanks for looking.

I havent stuck it on yet, its pinned just not glued - I really think this is the first model I'll have to paint in bits as its so large.

This thread is excellent. CSM had real personality back in RT, and you've combined that look with contemporary high standards of sculpting and painting like nothing I've seen.

hmm... i guess this could be a good decision... i painted my converted vernerable dreadnought too in parts... otherwise i doubt i could have managed that model...

Not that 'spikey Ultramrines' are doing it wrong per se, just a shame that the CSM range seems focussed on this trope with the freaky stuff like Possessed, Obliterators etc hanging on the periphery.

Every time I see that you've updated this thread I actually get excited to see what you've done, and man I have got to tell you (even though I keep saying the same thing over and over), you put more true Chaos into your Chaos Marines than anyone else on Dakka I've seen yet. You are in a very elite class of converters, and I'm not just saying that because compliments are cheap and easy to hand out, I really mean it. This goes way beyond "wow, cool model". Between you and Llamahead I've reconsidered how I convert my models and I'm taking a new approach to how I do Chaos conversions (CSM and Cultists) in the future. The overall style will still be my own, but the inspiration is due in large part to work I have seen here.

I'm subbed to a lot of threads and I enjoy them all for what they are, but this thread is like reading through The Lost and the Damned all over again. It is what Rogue Trader was all about for me. The fluff and the background of the universe GW -outright stole from other people and marginally changed to narrowly avoid IP lawsuits- created was dark and chaotic and mutated (even "normal" things in the Imperium like Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanics, average Hivers, etc). These models really speak of that time, really connect the "now" to the "what once was", and you have yet to do anything that looks rushed or "good enough".

Stunning work as always.

Hello there! Thanks for your comments- I do love the old RT stuff, you seem to hit the nail on the head at what I'm trying to do - by the way, I think your orks are great!!

Yea, I agree- I've decided to paint it in about 5 bits, he is just too big to miss bits out - I think I have learnt the lesson trying to paint my Snake marine....

Wow thanks for that - I do really enjoy this site, I doubt my models would look the way they do if I wasnt a member of this site - Its great seeing what other people with similar interests create - then stealing their ideas naturally!

Okay!

Seems a while since I updated- I did run into my first minor hitch of this project- Living up to his gift, the Evil Frog decided to leap from my workbench, upon his landing he thought he no longer required the use of his feet, or his base. Anyway after some brutal drilling and pinning, I persuaded him otherwise.

I have finished converting the Dread - as mentioned I will be painting him in about 5 pieces, I'll put up some pictures of him when the greenstuff is cured.

I also had a little painting efforts pics-

I have spotted some parts of him I dont like/have missed painting, so I'll do a bit more to him. I also may either file down, or green stuff him some ankle jeweley to hide the breaks .

Anyway

Thanks for looking!

Dread looking cool, but at that angle, with the primer on, it looks even more like that gribbly vik found

There is some really fantastic stuff tucked away in these pages TR, but I think my favorite so far is your first Nurgle marine... with the big eyes so expertly painted... Well done man.

I'm impressed by how the paint managed to turn him from a cool gribbly posessed marine to a cool frog like mutant. That was a brilliant use of painting to highlight the conversions theme.
