I actually really like the void shield generator...and I don't even play competitively. I'm considering picking one up, but would probably end up using it as scenery rather than for the rules...

Very interesting that it's a resin kit too...the m ind boggles.

and finally, it need to be said:

Why make it LE? Dammit GW.

on the forum. Obviously

You know what's great about this release? We now know the size of the generator, meaning that it is now possible to scratch build it.

Now, how to make a necron void shield / quantum shield generator...I'm thinking crystals.

I like the craters. Not sure if I can justify buying more craters when we've already got several sets of the old ones.

Generator looks terrible. Craters are ok but I wish that they didn't make them imperial specific looking. Generic would have been better.

Yes. By reducing volume they will drive up demand which....and then....hmm.

The terrain looks relatively cool, but is expensive. They serve as great inspiration for scratch-building my own though.

Normally I buy all of GW's terrain.. but this for 100$? Er, no thanks.. Maybe if they priced it correctly at 50$ I'd do it.

Craters are cool tho, although not sure how a huge weapon kills only the organic parts of a guardsman and leaves the armor :p

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Gw idiocy raises its ugly head again.

So the void shield generator is a limited release worldwide of 1000 resin kits.

After all the trouble they take to make codex releases comprehensive so that third party suppliers are starved of opportunities (Chapterhouse), they make a new unit with limited edition release but of great utility on the battlefield.

According to my local manager the rules mean that you will need to remove all the void shields from the generator before harming nearby units, as void shields stop strength D these are excellent parking points for Shadowswords and command units vulnerable to Strength D attack. Keeping a Shadowsword or general etc alive for an extra turn while facing enemy Strength D is an obvious benefit. These are the first things to be targeted, again for obvious reasons,
Whether or not this interpretation of the rules is entirely true the local staff have certainly made the piece tempting to buy for many. It appears for Escalation this is a must buy for many armies, and you might also want more than one..
As a result people will want more than the thousand of them available worldwide.

Is it too far fetched for Chapterhouse, or someone else to make a Gothic generator next month for general release? And as Gothic generators can mean anything, even if skulls are included GW can do nothing about it, they could be called water pumps for all they care so long as there is an electric doo-dah on top in a gothic arch with skulls which players may choose to identify as a void shield generator.
Buildings are the very hardest styles to trademark.

If GW wanted to make a model release purposely to do themselves out of sales and fuel a third party manufacturer they hate, this would be the way to do it. If they don't like Chapterhouse very much then they should have released a regular kit, or nothing at all.

Anyone in the least bit surprised GW hasn't thought this through.

I quite like the craters, but don't think they are worth the money - not when you can get some half decent ones from Amera for buttons. The Void Generator is very grimdark, I like it but doubt I have enough hobby funds left to purchase one after DBE and purchasing a Knight.

I dont like the craters very much, they dont look like craters.
With craters the debris around the edge is blown tobits not intact, so they are only old craters turned into hardpoints. However for that to make sense some rhyme or reason for their improvement should be evident. I liked the old moonscape craters, I like Wall of Martyrs kits, I dont like this.

As for the void shield generator, all hard and armoured with externally mounted servitors. So in order to disable the generator you don't need melta bombs, you just walk up to the wired in zombies with a laspistol. For a fortification unit I think the vulnerability a little absurd, any momentary lossof shielding is effectively fatal to anyone capable of shooting the servitors. At least vehicles and titans have their servitors on the inside.

Craters look cool, but that generator looks really fugly.

Giant gears in the base? Old-school orbs at the top? It looks like they had a building they were working on for Fantasy, but someone said 'Hey, if we put a Mechanicum thing on this, and some pipes, we can sell it in 40k!' - 'Right, but this was supposed to be a Forgeworld model for Fantasy.' - 'That's alright, we'll just make it limited release!' - 'But, it's supposed to be made in resin...' - 'Oh, whatever, just release it. The fact that it's resin will just make all those nerds on the internet think we're actually fusing the two websites together. It'll be great!'

The craters are craters.

I would imagine that this was originally in plastic. I suspect Wall of Martyrs / Redoubt / Strongpoint sales simply did meet their expectations, and so they elected to produce in resin rather than plastic to cut production costs. Going limited also means it doesn't have to take up shelf-space / storage etc...

Yeah, I'll just make my own generators, thanks. And to make them look official, I'll glue half of a Warhammer zombie to each one.

I really think the Void Shield Gen would have done MUCH better if released along with the supporting book. As of now, I know a ton of people that made their own using the Bastion as a size guide, so I doubt any of them are going to take the $100 backdoor from GW but perhaps mod their own model to look more appropriate for LoS.

GW fails on this one, big time. Are we suprised?

Seems GW pushed back April releases to April and we get another week with surplus releases to fill a WD:

Just for the record, since the switch to weekly releases, there's no such thing as "releases by month" anymore for GW. Sales reps from GW have been reiterating since February that each and every week could be a curveball. Since the switch we've had three weeks of dwarfs, two weeks of imperial knights, a week of chaos marines, a week of basically nothing (Damocles), and next week is mostly Lord of the Rings and terrain for 40K. I would guess high profile army book releases will be spread over two to three weeks, but nothing is tied to any given month anymore. Nothing was pushed back. Dakka just got its hands on White Dwarf #9 realllly early.

Yeah, I don't think their reasoning is too hard to figure out here. DJGietzen laid it out nicely earlier. People can certainly dislike the release for a variety of reasons, but it doesn't make GW stupid regarding their marketing for this item.

I like the Imperial weapon created crater surrounded by Imperial debris and bodies.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

No what we need is Codex: Void Shields, a "Void Shield Companion" and a Void Shield novella (with a limited edition that costs 3x as much as a mainstream hardback release).

I'd start with four of the big guns from the Doomsday Ark mounted vertically on a nice blocky plinth, myself. Since most people mainly use the kit for Ghost Arks, you can probably get some pretty easily in the swap shop.
