@ Alabamaheretic ~ Hmm. I was thinking about trying just painting on some ardcoat to make it glossy. Never heard of the furniture polish option. I have heard of people using shoe polish like a dip for their models, It worked super well too but this is a totally separate issue.
This is what i did much of last night and for several hours this morning. I have been struggling with getting these oblits painted up. Meatface is the first oblit that i converted using the blackreach termis as a base. I think that the color on his flesh could be toned down some, and i am still working on the paint for his weapons. I dont think that i will paint the plasma cell glow onto his arm weapons but i may add it later.
Right now i am stumped on painting the base. I have worked on painting one of these on a prior base, and i went for a green murky water look. It didnt turn out so well. I have been working on toning it down so it isnt as bright as it is. SO how do you all think i should do the pustulant slime on this base. I am working toward a slimy water look since my bases are all supposed to represent mud from a really churned up battleground from a field that has suffered from a severe seige (i love siege boards).
Questions and comments appreciated.

The left arm really defines the entire model. GS is great as always, the array of weapons is perfect, and overall the build is excellent. Paint looks a bit wonky though. I know you are really pressed for time so if you had to go w/ it right now it would pass the 'tabletop' test, but you know it's not the same finished product you normally offer.
Regarding furniture polish (like Minwax, etc) for glossy finish, I've seen a lot of people use it (usually new modelers) with horrifically ruined models to show for it. The only person I've seen that really did it right is Rabid Ferret. Here's sample of his finished product. It's a lower gloss finish but notice the recesses and finish on the skin:
You may want to consider a gloss spray from your local craft store, though I would certainly recommend a sacrificial model to test on.
I hope you trample the weak and hurdle the dead on the 19th.

@ Skalk ~ I took your advice and have sculpted on paunch. The clamshell Belly plate features on a bunch of my new sculpts, most recently the bikes and the champion that i am painting. I appreciate you pushing for this. Also... I agree. The paint on my oblit is a little too bright and a bit wonky for my taste.
Here is the terminator lord. I selected a different head for him than i had recently proposed. I like this one better. I added the paunch on the belley and sculpted slight lifts onto his feet. I have been using Assaulto on black reach termis and the soles of their feet are a bit thin for what i am doing. So i thickened those up and glued him to one of the base that i put together for this guy. I am going to magnetize him, but since i am out of magnets and pressed for time i am just going to glue his arms on over a slight layer of paint so that they can be pried off easily to be replaced with magnets later. All i have to do to finish him is to drill some little holes in his knee plates so that they are properly nurgly, glue and paint and he is done.

Once again you provide inspiration. I've always used those pauldrons as pauldrons, I've never considered them for cops. Now it makes complete sense and I have a Daemon Prince that I need to take a closer look at now.
I really like that conversion. A lot.

@ Skalk ~ Thanks Skalk. I would not have had the willpower to sculpt the addition of the paunch onto the belly unless you had said something. I really think it helps the model considerably on the whole.
Lately i have been in a frantic race to get everything i need done for this upcoming game. I had to paint
7 Plague bearers - DONE
Herald of Nurgle - I was going to sculpt this but i cheesed out and bought the Avatars of War Herald of Pestilence. Assembled but not painted.
Predator Turret - mostly painted.
3 Obliterator - 1 painted the other two primed.
Lord in Assault armor - Finished GS, primed but not painted.
Champion with Powerax - Poweraxe modelled and magnetized, primed but not painted.
So... with only 9 days to go before i have to be ready i have only got 5 models to paint. Thats a relief since i paint super slow.
Yesterday i spent GS the lord, and when i went to go prime him the last of my primer ran out (its special army painter primer so i cant buy more), with him 95% completed. Arrrgfh. Its ok though, i think i can make things work with just the paints that i have.
I also worked on the predator. I got the turret ready to go, GS added and a roll of camo tarp on the side. The tarp, which i made out of rolled gauze soaked in PVA glue expanded durning painting and got weird so last night i ripped it off and had to finish dremmeling and painting it this morning. Now i only have to find the hatch.
I also asssembled my Herald of Nurgle. The Avatars of war model looks great IMHO (I know you hate it skalk ) but it came with some huge gaps in the cast that needed serious GS work to fill. Groan. So i pinned and GS the model together and now its ready to prime and paint. I plan to have it finished by this evening and hopefully posted up here on the blog so stay tuned. BTW, the sculpt has a little nurgling crawling out of a really unusual place. Cant wait to get there when it comes to painting.

I woudn't say I 'hate' it per se, it would be an awesome Nurgling (giggling little chubby-wubb). You can 'fluff him up' to... wait, isn't there something in the latest Daemon Codex about a Nurgling that drank some concoction Papa Nurgle made and the Nurgling got huge from it? Maybe you have a Special Character there instead?
In any case, it's your model, it's your army, and I have no doubts that once you are done w/ him it'll look as amazing as all your other work. Speaking of work, the Predator looks excellent. You have the best Nurgle GS skills I've seen to date, and I've seen a lot of projects.

@ Skalk Bloodax ~ I know i over use the word hate, but i play chaos, thats my excuse. I really appreciate the kind words with respect to the GS that i have been doing. I just received some advice from someone that i consider a master, and it looks like i have to order some milliput. Apparently a mix of GS and milliput is much easier to work with and has wonderful characteristics when it has hardened. Lookin forward to trying this stuff out.
The fluff that i have for this model is that GW got it wrong. GUO are just larger evolutions of PB who have achieved the ultimate favor of their gods. As a PB rises through the ranks of his father nurgles affection, they grow in size. Thus, a herald is going to be much larger than the regular PB and a GUO is a whole nother level larger than that.
I finished painting this guy so he is at least table ready. As i have said previously i prefer the earlier models that GW produced for plague bearers since they dont look quite so much like MR Peanut with some boils added in here and there. The Herald of pesitilence took some GS to get to stick together and i would also advise having a dremmel because there was a lot of thick metal flash. I removed most of it but there is one annoying line that i am going to have to remove later and that is going to be a pain in the butt. Speaking of pains. I also was unaware that the model came with a nurgling crawling out of the nether regions. a pleasant or unpleasant surprise depending on your point of view. Painting was pretty simple. I had half a mind to go even darker green but for a table ready model i feel pretty good about it.
THe last shot is a group shot of all 14 PB with herald. The models on the top of the hill are all the newly painted ones and the ones in the foreground are all those that i had painted previously. Hope yall enjoy.
Questions and comments welcomed.

You just sold me completely with the paint you put on that model. Wow.
I also agree with you about the ascension of a PB to Herold and Herold to GUO. Chaos is all about promotion to the top, and I can't see why he'd treat his real children any differently than the humans he adopts.
And again, great model. I'm completely impressed. I know by now I should just simply expect such artistry from you, but I am still awed every time you share something. That's not sycophantic fanboy spew, it's genuine.

@ alabamaheretic ~ as far as personal preference goes, there is no right or wrong. I am going to buy two sets of regular PB from GW. The mr. peanut models will stand out and be easy to determine which model is from what unit. Plus, they will complete my collection of nurgle esque stuff. Thanks for the props on the Verdegris. I followed that tutorial i sent you.
@ Skalk. Your too kind dude. If you could see the model in person you would think differently. However, I do feel like its a great stand in for a herald with the older GW PB models. I really appreciate the props though.
@ Magnus ~ Thanks. I cant wait to show you. Is it ok if i post a full battle report from both of my games here on Dakka. I would love to photograph everyone elses army and post it here along with a report of how things go. Glad to hear that you are appreciating chaos more. You converted me and its a shame that your such a loyalist now. JK. See you friday.

Just a quick update here. So, i have been painting all weekend (poor GF) and i managed to at least base coat every model except the hatch on the predator. If i can have them all more or less table ready by this evenning it will take a lot of pressure off of me so that i can go in and begin to hit all the little details that i left undone in the rush to get them all table ready. stuff like bases and the extra layers of highlighting here and there. Once thats all done the whole kit and caboodle will look a lot better, but at least now i can field everything and not have unpainted minis on a table that does not allow them. I had to make some sacrafices though. I think i am going to take a different lord to the game. My goal was to paint the Terminator lord but i am going to swap him out for the CSM lord with Black Mace. That way i can save myself some painting time. Most recently i have been working to get the rest of my oblits and a Plague marine champion ready. So .. without further adieu, the progress. I will try to update later.
I am working out how to paint the base that Meatface is on. any suggestions. I'm thinking about making it a pile of blood and guts. They all are clearly WIP but beyond that,
Questions and comments are appreciated.

@ alabamaheretic ~ Thanks for the props man.
I do use different sized drill bits. The ones that came with the GW pin vise are a bit large for what i want, so i use the smallest dremel cutter bit that they make. You can also use the tip of a box cutter and if you twist it againt the plastic it will cut out a tiny little cone, but i use that a lot for stuff like bullet holes.
As for a group shot, i have em all laid out and am lookin at my army to see where i am at and what still needs doing. Its looking pretty good so far. I might be able to post a group shot tomorrow sometime after i finish work.

Its not really a tournament. More of a organized set of games with a games club. I will post a battle report but some of the material that we are going to be using is "theirs" and i dont want to step on any toes by sharing too much etc. So... with that said i will be posting links to my battle report here on Dakka covering this whole mess.

Thanks Yggdrasil. I used to print up some pretty elaborate ones for my ultramarines when i used to play loyalists. I feel that during any kind of formal match (campaign or tournament game) you should invest whatever energy you can to present your best.
We are encouraged to share our warbands history so i have been working on mine.
Pestis eram vivus-moriens tua mors ero
“Living I was your plague, Dying I will be your death”
M31 The Death Guard are trapped within the warp, ravaged by the Destroyer Plague. Mortorion sells his and his legions souls to Nurgle. Most of the legion arrives at Terra and participates in the final battle. Morbus, Captain of the 13th grand company, last to enter the warp, remains trapped within the empyrean. Ravaged by the destroyer plague, the Destroying Angel (capital ship Unknown class) and the associated elements of the remaining fleet drift till the Great Awakening late in M41. Despite the full blessing of Nurgle, the numbers of the 13th grand company rapidly dwindle.
982999.M41 The Great Awakening. A ripple of psychic energy tears through the imperium, creating innumerable warp rifts that spill all manner of daemon from the Warp. Amongst those to re-emerge, Morbus and the 13th company, are reborn as the Mortise Apostate. Trapped in the warp since M31, their fleet, equipped for the invasion of terra, emerges from a rift near the Tempestuous Segmentum above the planet Triadies. Though the PDF and local elements of the Imperial navy put up a spirited defense, no imperial citizen survives the incursion unharmed. The planet is later declared Exterminatus after elements of a Bloodangels strike force bear witness to the horrors perpetrated on the planets previous denizens.
Leadership : Morbus Captain of the Mortise Apostate, former captain of the 13th grand company , Deathguard Legion.
Disposition and Tactical Strength: Total numbers unknown, however evidence suggests that between 189 and 343 corrupted astartes remain. Given the best estimates based on extrapolation from available records, correlated with the size of their support fleet and their previous disposition as a grand company, the Mortise Apostate must be considered to be amongst the most well equipped heretic fighting forces encountered to date.

Moving forward with my project to finish as many new nurgle pieces as possible, I painted two more plague bearers for my Mortise Apostate. They will be in my upcoming series of games. I painted them so that i would not have to use my icon bearer or my musician since all models must be strictly WYSIWYG.
The first of these is one of the best i think that i have painted. HE started off a darker brown and i brought him up in shades from graveyard earth, dwarf flesh to bleached bone. Really happy with him. The second one turned out pretty well too but i need to hit it with a glaze to mellow where the wash settled.
If anyone is interested, the gaming group i play with is called G3 and they have both a Santa Cruz chapter and a Redding chapter. They put on the even featured on episode 61 of the independant character. found here...

Thanks Yggdrasil.
@ Galorn ~ the first of the battle reports are up. You neednt speculate any longer.
Well all. The dice are done rolling and when the smoke cleared, chaos lost the day but not on my tables. My first match up against eldar went well with me claiming 5 VP to my foes 1. The battle rep can be found here.

The second game which was a team game with myself and a daemons player against eldar and dark eldar ended in a draw but had it gone one more round we would have easily won with 2 Vp to 0.
Fun was had by all and i have to throw a huge shout out too Scott from G3 SC for putting on a great game.
