Right, I get that, and I don't think it would be a big deal either way. It just seems unlikely that they would remove such an iconic unit(if only in name) from Chaos, which I why I'm guessing it's a daemonically possessed dreadnought essentially, but the standard option will be available as well. If not, anyone can still use the old dreadnought models as Hell Brutes, as you said.

Cultists say it all if you ask me. THey are fantastic stuff. I could care less about the loyalist scum though they might be conversion bait....

Yeah, it was quite the surprise for me as well. Gotta say I was most looking forward to the cultists from the early rumors, but they are the ones I'm least excited about now. They will probably end up as a Necromunda gang for me.

Why bother converting the loyalists? Just trade them off for another set of Chaos. It's gonna be a trading frenzy come release week. Hell, I've already got a tentative trade lined up from earlier in the thread.

Yeah, that plus them saying the Captain's power sword is "erect" again shows GWs (not)subtle inuendo with Dark Angels.

Anybody know why the Chaplain is marked limited edition, and what he will be available from? He appears to be listed on the right of the white dwarf scan (it's cut off), but wouldn't ALL of these figs be limited edition and exclusive to the box set? Or do they plan on releasing the rest of these as seperate boxes, unlike the figs in past starters?

I guess it's just a cynical marketing ploy. AIUI, they will be selling first "limited edition boxes" with the Chaplain, and then "regular" version once the "limited" runs out. So what will happen is that people who otherwise might be on the fence will rush to buy the limited edition to get the Chaplain.

I hope its as you say. Would be nice to buy with a discount as ill be getting at least 2 right off the bat.

Really?

I wonder why they gave it a Power Fist instead of a DCCW.

As always, GWs starter sets have ever been nicely balanced. Macragge was close though.

although the DAs will struggle with the Hellbrute only having Plasma and an assault cannon to shoot it with.

Unwieldy doesn't effect monstrous creatures and dreads?

I'm pretty sure the 2 dreads with p-fists and especially the one with the chain fist have a even chance at doing something to it as well.

Or convert existing dreads to Hellbrutes. Looks like it might be fun to add muscled thighs and shoulders and other fleshy bits (and toes!)

I just realized something: true general lack of the much-scorned spiky bits! These CSM do NOT look like Liyalists with spikes and extra skulls. Bodes well for the CSM revamp to come.

And, with the recent Daemon releases, and word of WoC in the WHFB release pipeline, it has never been a better time to turn to the ruinous powers!

The big problem is there is a massive plastic range there to revamp. I can't see it happening. With new plastic kits to add, I can't see them replacing old things like the current Chaos marines, Terminators or Berzerkers. So you'll have a fairly divided range - old style spikey loyalists, and new style actual chaos Marines.

My only real complaint is I can't find anyone who wants to split the box and take the Dark Angels half. Those Chaos dudes would be an amazing start to my Tzeentch themed force I want to do.

Yes, Chaos buyers will outnumber DA buyers by at least 5 to 1. There are lot more Chaos players, and almost everything in the DA set already exists in one form or another, or can be made using excellent DA upgrade sprues. Chaos stuff is much more unique.

I'll likely ebay off the Chaos bits that I dont use for conversions if I cant sell them to my brother. The DA components are exactly what I need to bring my marines to a nice 1500-2000 point force that might actually be effective. Plus I like the new models and mini rulebook.

Ok, those are fairly amazing and really going to test my nerve to not buy the starter set, but on a slight tangent, why have GW not considered releasing the two halves of AOBR?

Call them a reinforcement squad or something and charge £30 or so as a mini battle force. It seems a shame to let the tools just sit on the shelf...

Do you think the hellbrute will have stats like a dreadnought or a dreadknight?

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive.
Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

Here you go:

Hellbrute

120pts base

Type: Walker
Rules: Rampage

Armour: F12 S12 R10
WS4 BS4 S6 I4

Multi-Melta / Power Fist (with inbuilt combi-bolter); Because it is a Walker, it does not strike at I1.

Multi-Melta can be swapped for
Butcher Cannon, or
Twin Reaper Autocannons, or
Twin-linked Lascannon, or
Twin-linked Heavy Flamer.

Combi-Bolter can be swapped for Meltagun or Heavy Flamer.

Mark of Khorne: Rage USR
Mark of Nurgle: At the beginning of the turn, a D6 result of 5+ restores a Hull Point, OR can repair a immobilised / weapon destroyed.
Mark of Slaanesh: Sonic Scream (offensive & defensive grenades)
Mark of Tzeench: Flame weapons (if equipped) gain +1 strength and -1 AP (AP4 becomes AP3, etc)
