Pretty much never. It's the best paying job I could ever land, period, and the only way I'm ever going to pay off my student loans. Maybe another three years at the very minimum if I can't find a workaround to the crippling loneliness.

Oof. Sorry to hear that. All I can say is hang in there. While we can’t be there in person to help with the loneliness, we are just a blog post away from you. There is quite a community here to be supportive, at least of your hobby. So while we can’t help with everything, we’ll do what we can here.

If there is anything we can do to help, let us know.

Aye, we're all here for ya Boss. Stuff will work out for you eventually, but it's pretty much a waiting game. I don't really see anything you can do, aside from pack up and relocate, which is... well, not really an option as far as I can see.

Anyhow, here if you need us.

Meh. I'm finding a bit of peace through powerlifting. From what I understand, everyone who works out here gets these episodes once in a while, so I'm not in nearly as much trouble with my job over it as I thought, which is a relief. Coming home in August is going to help a lot too, even if it's just a month. Hell, I'll be lucky to have everything back up and running by then lol.

Exercise is excellent for stress relief. Outbursts where you smash stuff -- which, um, I know something about personally, and I didn't even have the excuse of alcohol -- have a lot to do with modern society triggering our fight-or-flight reflex in situations where we can't fight or flee, so all that energy has nowhere to go except indigestion, mysterious back pain, and blowing up at inanimate objects.

I also got to take this military-oriented meditation & stress management course and would highly recommend it to anyone who's feeling stressed out or heading into a stressful situation.

I got this theory that a lot (if not all) of our "Modern" personality disorders and emotional disorders (depression, bipolar, explosiveness, anger management issues, all that) is actually due to our brains being designed to handle huge swings in emotions and stress on a daily or weekly basis- going from enjoying a breezy pleasant noon day, having some roasted animal on a stick with friends, to the fear of night and being surrounded by things you can't see that want to eat you, to the pride of a successful hunt/gather, to the sorrow and pain of death-

And then modern society comes along and says "Everyone's gonna be happy or bored, all the time, forever".

I figure our brains can't handle it, and so just start dumping random neurochemicals trying to 'balance' things out. Something similar probably happens in any situation where you're constantly feeling one or two emotions, instead of a wide variety- situations such as being stuck in a desk job in a culture that you can't undestand, and being constantly on the watch for danger, for years on end.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Anvil Dude, I think you're pretty much right on the neurochemistry. We've got all these fight-or-flight systems designed to deal with a sabertooth tiger or the guy from the next cave trying to kill us, and we live in a society where no one is trying to kill us 99.9% of the time, so that system starts to get triggered by "goddamit this guy just cut me off in traffic I WILL END HIM."

Oh yeah, and it almost goes without saying, but I'll say it: please holy feth nobody do steroids seriously that is a bad bad bad idea.

In fact, let's not put anything in our bodies that's not tested by the medical community or generations of ancestors, and even then there are some things -- eg this medication I was prescribed once that made me start to lose my hair, or alcohol -- that we gotta be real careful about.

Okay, I finally got around to picking up some of the pieces of my work area (it's a hard thing to sift through that kind of wreckage) and I salvaged the Melvin suit, more or less. The bad news is that it's in a few pieces and the LED isn't lighting up. The good news is that all of those pieces can be reattached easily, and I can see the broken wire so I should be able to fix it. Not so bad after all. More than anything I'm not motivated to get back to the tau project. I'll do some repairs and then I might have to take a step back and work on something else for a while.

On a completely different note, this happened a while back, and has finally gotten finished up:

There's a long post where I address the issue of sexism at great length. It's lost somewhere deep in the first half of the thread. To sum it up, yes it's sexist. Yes, I'm okay with that. And no, I don't care that someone *could* get upset about it. Because if they're getting upset about it, then chances are I didn't want to know them anyway.

Unsure of what this actually means since feminism means wanting gender equality which, in this mainly patriarchial world, almost entirely means women's rights.

I think he means the feminists that are the total opposites from macho's
The type that screams equality but really want to reverse the situation.

I call myself an Equalisist, but aren't there better things to be pointing out than one guy's plastic space mans? This thread is too awesome to drag off for that discussion I think. Besides, we need some chill time up in here

Generally, Feminists, at least the generally outspoken ones that the public / media is exposed to, say they want equality, but blatantly don't.

They want it reversed.
Things like expecting having a hissy fit and scraming at you if you hold a door for them, get their chair, or any given gentlemanly thing, and insist you treat them like anyone else, then later bitch that 'you can't say that to a woman' or some such nonsense.
The events to raise money and awareness, where women get the goods at a significant discount / men have to pay inflated prices.
Where you're treading on eggshells because they thing men are the scum that have 'kept them down' and so need to be 'punished' for it.

I'm all for equality for everyone, that's great, but going the other way and basically being sexist in their own right isn't.

This is harmless though, and very well made.

It's not hard to out-Calgar Calgar, because Calgar doesn't Calgar all that well.

Almost forgot to credit the image, a commission from Fafnir here on this very forum (he has a project log here for his art). Pricey, and it came with some buyer's remorse, but I wanted to get the commission done by a Dakkanaut to keep the whole thing in-house.

Everyone asking what kind of feminist I'm talking about

Actually I'm talking about that god-awful bitch in the do-rag standing outside the campus Starbucks screaming and calling me a rapist and throwing used tampons at me when I've never met her before and it's 7am and I am just NOT AWAKE ENOUGH FOR THAT gak RIGHT NOW.

You know. Her. That's not a generalization or a baseless pejorative by the way. That crazy bitch nailed me with a couple tampons once at USF. And if you file a complaint about it? That means you're sexist. You sexist pig, you.

Yeah, okay, that person was being a dick, in a non-gender-specific sense. Please don't tar all feminists with her brush (and that sounds, um, hmmm). I consider myself a feminist and I'm, y'know, a man. A heterosexual man with a son and a daughter that I want to have the same rights and opportunities, full stop.

Also the purple PimpTau picture is awesome.
