Who knows. As I said on the last page, I have an order number, but that may mean nothing if GWOZ sold more than was allotted to them.

It was pre orders, I doubt you're store will be able to help, unless they've held some back specifically for B+M retail, which would certainly take the shine off the speed they've sold through if that is the case.

So just had a look at it on the GW website...

The box looks more appealing than the model tbh...

And that servitor looks like an half-arsed job, seriously that "sacred Warhammer" in Ultramarines the movie entrenched in all that wiring had more dimensions than that thing..

Half arsed job and they knew it.

Damn. GW sold, at retail, $100,000 U.S. in @ 40 minutes. Well, I planned on ordering one, but had no idea it would sell out. I guess, based on dakka comments that it would have been sitting on some shelf at GW collecting dust.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I know right!?! Dakka declared it an unsellable triple twist pile of steaming something, and yet it sold out. Its almost as if there is a buying public out there that doesn't frequent Dakka. *Boggle*

You have to wonder where the buying public is getting all it's knowledge from to buy it up minutes after it's totally unpromoted release though huh?

1000 units is still very little for a global company, factor in that many may well have been purchased speculatively, not because they're actually wanted, and some-many may have been held back for other sales channels, it might not be half the achievement you think.

yeah,
Tomorrow morning when people buy the new white dwarf it will contain news of mini they can't buy...

Just like when they released the gamers editions of the new 40k edition...
And the crusade of fire selling out before the launch of that months White Dwarf.

They've switched a to a weekly publication and they still can't get it right.

GW wrote:This kit contains eight quake cannon crater halves which feature four distinctive designs. They can be assembled in a number of different ways to make four craters.

You get 8 halfs.

There are 4 designs of half ... so I guess you can make several unique combinations.

Panic...

Not the first time GW created a fake shortage. Remember how they "Found" some space hulks lying around?

Half assed is the companys new mantra. Recycled everything, $60 books with 2 pages of rules that took less then a few hours to make. Complete abandonment of structure and leaving it up to people to govern themselves (cause that works). And they wonder why so many people are leaving.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Honestly, I would just buy a couple of these, mount them on a little platform, and call it good as a void shield generator. Looks a damn sight better than the GW version, anyway (and far cheaper, too).

1,000 units is a very small run for a company the size of GW. The other thing is that while I (and others here and elsewhere) might think it looks gak, that doesn't mean others aren't allowed to love it to death. Nor does it make either opinion or those who hold it evil.

I quite like the look of those (and the pegasus kit shown earlier). Though I prefer the older kind of GW terrain aesthetic (think Necromunda) which both kits are closer to.

This is by no means a criticism, of you or anyone else, but it does seem to be taking a lot of people a long time to get out of the old release pattern way of thinking, ie midnight pre orders and monthly waves.

Its a brave new world people!

I have to wonder how many of these will be sitting in GW stores down here 6 months from now. Of the 1,000 boxes I can't imagine the various national webstores were allotted more than three quarters of the total stock.

There are still 8 copies of crusade of fire between the FLGS and GW store in my city.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Crazy "maybe they actually have a plan" theory:

Make a new kit, but you don't know if it will actually sell. So you make a limited resin release to see if people are interested. If the demand is there you go back and actually tool the molds for a non-limited plastic release.

Too much "that would make sense" for GW?
