In order to combat the stupidity of commanders forgetting their specialisation between battles and the risk of rolling entirely useless traits (Like reserve bonuses in a reserve-free army) I propose that you simply choose the trait along with the list building.

We can compensate SCs who do this already in some other manner.

Thoughts?

One of the ideas I had was to give players an option: roll randomly on one of the tables for free OR pick your own Warlord Trait for an upped point cost (15 points or something).

We'd see a lot of Iron Arm daemon princes, but that's a small price to pay for reduced stupidity across every other Codex.

"Oh, cool, I rolled the ability to Deep Strike without error... Too bad I don't have any units that can Deep Strike."

Well, if you check out Sister Sydney's homebrew/expansion rules, you'll find all kinds of units the Sisters could have, that fit with the theme of the Sisters (as a tabletop army) perfectly well, and are damn-near-perfectly balanced.

I’m updating that fandex now & I’m eager for feedback on new home-brew units for the Sisters: Sororitas Bikers, infiltrators & Novices, tanks, flyers, characters, superheavies, Frateris Militia, and now Confessors and Battle Conclave characters

I can relate to that. The number of times I've rolled Counter Attack for my Wolf Lord...

One common workaround I've seen is to reverse what you roll for... Roll randomly to determine which type of trait you get, but pick from the list.

Huh. Now that's interesting. So you have the 3 tables in the BRB plus the one from your army's Codex, roll 1d6 and reroll 5s and 6s? Or do you weight the table from your own codex more heavily?

Reroll 5s and 6s seems simple enough.

In my area we roll, then choose the table.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

over there

I was simply planning on nagging my buddy until he lets me use the last two IMPERIAL GUARD (not am) traits to get voice of command on my lord commissar. I have always wanted an order issuing commissar.

The west is on its death spiral.

It was a good run.

I mean DE will ALWAYS pick to have the first turn night fighting. At this point I dont think it really even helps them.
