What effect should Holy Promethium have?
Force a morale check, as in Codex:Witchhunters
+1 Strength, just like Psyflame in Codex:Inquisition
Shred!
Something else? (Please post your idea!)

I'm cleaning up my fandex/expandex and wasn't satisfied with how I'd brought back the old Codex:Witchhunters vehicle upgrade, Holy Promethium. In C:WH, it forces a morale check whenever it hits, which in the current game is fairly useless as everyone and their great-aunt Ethel is Fearless (Ethel also has Rampage and Rage), but what should it be instead?

My first thought was simply +1 Strength to flamer attacks, just like Psyflame in the Inquisition codex. Then I thought it would be more fun to represent it as Shred, though that's potentially trespassing on the Seraphim's special thang. You could also do Soul Blaze, which is very fluffy except (1) it tastes slightly of Tzeentch and (2) a lot of people hate hate hate the bookkeeping required for that special rule.

So I thought I'd open the door to suggestions from my fellow Dakkamites, who've never failed to provide good advice in the past.

+1 S like Psyflame would add another brick to the 'AoF=sorcery' house, and I am not sure how popular that house is.

Something like forcing a morale check regardless of casualties would be better. Or blind? Might be OP though.

As for your problem why not force re-roll armor saves.Re-roll armor and re-roll invuls if demon instead? The fire of the Emperor finds a way to purge the heretic! Maybe bump it from 10 to 25 pts for that.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Some good ideas here. Thanks.

A good point that arguably applies to any Holy Promethium effect. I think the way of keeping it "maybe magic, maybe mundane" might be to say that Holy Promethium is especially high-quality purified fuel that's normally reserved for ceremonial purposes such as lightning Ecclesiarchical ceremonies, but on occasion it is given in quantity to the Sororitas for combat use. A bit like weaponizing the Hannukah story.

+S and Shred are what Salamanders flamers do (30k and 40k, respectively), I'd rather it be something different. -AP? Force reroll of successful saves? Something like that.

+1S is simple, easy, and keeps the game moving. Shred is nice, and a good option, but would be wasted on any TL flamer.

Soul blaze is a cool, fluffy option, but the bookkeeping involved for the benefit is too much IMHO.

Good point that Shred essentially does the same thing TL already does, which would make this utterly redundant on an Immolator.

Deflagerate -- how does that work? I only know vaguely that it's a 30K thing.

From Forge World's entry on the Castigator Knight:
Deflagrate:
"After normal attacks by this weapon have been
resolved, count the number of unsaved wounds caused on
the target unit. Immediately resolve a number of additional
automatic hits on the same unit using the weapon’s profile
equal to the number of unsaved wounds – these can then be
saved normally. Models in the targeted unit must still be in
range in order for these additional hits to take effect. These
additional hits do not themselves inflict more hits!"

That may be one of the funniest things I've read on this forum in quite some time.

I vote for the Deflagrate rule above. Sounds nice and fluffy (this flame burns hotter and longer), gives it an effect beyond (and enhanced by) that of the twin-linked rule of Immolators, and isn't game-breaking.

Okay, Deflagrate sounds cool. More complicated than just +1 Strength, but not as complex as Soul Blaze. I imagine it would be worth more than 10 points per Immolator?

No, 10pts is good I think. But to be fair, Id price +1 S as a 5pt upgrade not 10pts.

I'm torn between Deflagrate and +1 Strength. Deflagrate is more colorful but also a lot more complicated....
