Be good if they have managed to get Chaos Gate to work on a modern system!

Spent far, far too much time on that but had pretty much given up on it in the end..

Dark Omen is much easier to run on a modern system, indeed its the only one I've managed to get going from all my old CDs.

I found that Final Liberation had a poor mechanic where the enemy force was automatically matched points wise against yours....which made the final battle a walkover as I only took a IG support unit, and massacred the 5 or so trukks the Ork force consisted of.....

Also, Final Liberation for me got stuck on the mission with the Land Speeder - the multi melta wouldn't destroy the radar dish objective, which made it impossible to complete...

re: Chaos Gate.. Never played it before, but awesome! Also, it didn't crash when a soon to be exploded cultist shot at me.

I don't think I ever played the campaign on Final Lib, I was too enraptured with the skirmish mode.

Will def grab these after I uninstall some other games...

I may have to buy them up later.

It'll give me a reason to finally get rid of the 12 year old laptop I have as its the only thing that will stay play my old Chaos Gate CD.

I love the plasma gunner.

Was there ever a figure made for Commissar Holt?

I really miss that guy...

Has GW ever leveraged their licensed video game products for the purposes of furthering their miniature sales?

They also did an Orc mini for Warhammer on-line IIRC.

And didn't Final Liberation also come with a mini?

I loved Final Liberation and Chaos Gate to bits.

Definitely buying these.

I completed both of them originally, though I gave up trying to finish CG on the ultra-hardcore difficulty mode (the one where you can't go back to an earlier save if you screw up) when I found a bug that wouldn't let me complete one of the missions at all.

The WHO Orc was in the special edition box and I didn't get a mini with the Final Liberation box, at least I don't think I did.

Try it on a Terminator with an Assault Cannon. Missions complete in 1 turn (well almost at least )

I did a search, the mini that came with Final Liberation was a 2nd edition starter Space Marine and these were only found in boxes with a "Free mini!" sticker on it.

Nice! Final Liberation was a lot of fun, but I really loved Shadow of the Horned Rat (even though I could never finish it, god those games were hard) and Dark Omen.

By the end of Dark Omen I only had like 3 knights, 5 infantry and a cannon left against this gigantic Undead army commanded by...was it Nagash? And I just aimed the cannon at Nagash and prayed, managed to hit him before the horde got to me and won the damn game!

It really is just like Warhammer Fantasy

Actually, there's the rail rifles for the Tau Pathfinders. But I think that's it.

So everyone's getting good results with these downloads? I'm not very experienced with downloading games.

You really didn't do well in that game did you

If you failed certain key missions the end mission got substantially harder. Cannons were definitely the way to go to kill the Hand of Nagash (or what ever his name was) although I think I ran him over with the Steamtank once as well.

I really liked Dark Omen although it hasn't aged that well. A remake could be very interesting.

Yeah I lost some pretty important missions I think - I was pretty young at the time. I was immensely proud that I managed to finish it at all, because I had only rented it out (rather than buying it) so I had to try and finish it in a really short time frame!

I liked that there were hidden magic items on some maps with some (not so subtle) clues. For example one of the early undead maps has a house with yellow smoke rings coming out of the chimney, if you burn down the house you find the Tome of Magic which is extremely useful given how OP the Bright Wizard is.

Especially looking forward to Dark Omen. I played it a bit, years ago, and was disappointed that the replacement CD I bought recently didn't work on me newer computer.

Silent Puffin? wrote:... extremely useful given how OP the Bright Wizard is.

I remember that! I don't think I got too far in the game, but I remember there were levels where you just lined up the bright wizard, put a cannon and maybe couple of backup units beside him, and just went pew pew pew. Especially that one level in a town where the undead all came shambling down the very obvious firing lane of the main street. Zombie hordes used to crumble if he so much as looked at them.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

There's an interesting glitch with Chaos Gate that you can use after the Chaos Sorcerer plucks one of your dudes into the warp (or before if you lose one):

The squad which is undermanned, have the final dude equip a heavy weapon. Then swap him with a normal dude from a different squad and give the replacement a heavy weapon. Do this until you run out of Tactical Marines and voila! Missile Launcher or Heavy Bolter spam for the win.

SotHR is damned tough though. You can edit your dudes stats in the data folder by opening STRTARMY and MAXARMY. Turn the good old Grudgebringer Cavalry into a Skaven blender by giving them WS 10 and 10 attacks!

Hmm, got Chaos Gate working fine, but no luck with Final Liberation. :( Will see if GOG respond to my support ticket.
