Yes, more like the new Battletech boards instead of the old ones.

Adding a bunch of "do what you want with wargear" rules that would only realistically work for marines and guard does not make the game more narrative, it makes it harder to balance.

Harder for GW to balance. Balance is a difficult concept for them. And it isn't just that it's harder to create your KT, and give each model its own backstory, personality, fighting style, and equipment to reflect that. It's the gameplay. Malifaux, another skirmish game has a strong narrative element, but it is "in the doing", not just snippets of lore or statements from Wyrd and the dev team that it is so. Asymmetrical missions. The interact action. Abilities like Rotten Belles' Lure or Mr. Graves' Show Them The Door. Comparing an attacker value to a defender value to determine the likelihood of an outcome, similar to the old WS chart. Actual alternating activation. GW isn't giving us, the players, the tools for telling stories, despite their claims that this is a narrative game, or that we should Forge The Narrative TM.

The last time we had a game that supported narrative play well was Mordheim. Which was the pinnacle of GW Skirmish Games. They've never equaled it since.

The function of chosen is that they all have access to the sergeant/special weapon equipment, right?

That means they're no different from the regular marines in Kill Team.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

no their function is they are chosen and are better... the kinda guys you'd send on a mission...

more attacks, better leadership + x other spec KT rule they could have to be different from normal marines

Grey Knights for example seem to have only the Strike Squad as a unit (there go my terminator hopes) and Thousand Sons seem to have Rubrics and Tzaangors

So looking at the rules we have:
- initiative phase
- movement phase
- psychic phase
- shooting phase (including the flesh wound roll)
- fight phase
- morale phase

So basically 8th with a couple additions.
- Initiative: both players roll two dice, the highest roll goes first in each phase this round. Reroll if tied.
- Flesh wound: after losing your last wound roll D6, on 1,2,3 the model gets a flesh wound. Mark the model and add 1 to any further flesh wound rolls.
- If a model doesn't move, it gets priority to shoot first.

There's probably more, but I think we've got the gist of it already

I think when they released the DV sprue as the new "cultist kit", half of the cultists were on the same sprue as some of the other DV stuff and could not be included, so the stubber and shotgun dude were on that other half.

Why am I not surprised GK is the force of one?

I still can’t decide if this game is something I want to bother investing in rather than just continuing with Shadow War. I wish they would give us some actual game mechanics - like the videos they’ve done where they actually show a game being played. All the previews so far have been story/background-heavy and rules-lite. Show me some meat of this game, dammit (and Stratagems don’t count!)

It never ends well

Plus we technically have alternate model activations which I am not entirely sure how it will mix with the phase system.

Interesting that the frenchified version of the rulebook still has all the names in English. It's not a "marine du spess en chaosisme" or an "un du flayment". But all the weapons have been french'd.

Necron options are free. CWE options (and other factions, I assume) have options that cost.

However, a missile launcher is 4 points. So not the same as in 40k.

My french is bad, so I might be wrong about which ranged weapon costs 4, but I'm fairly sure.

I wonder if the necron options for free is a mis-print. It's rare to see a book come out from them that doesn't need a day one 'patch'.

What options do the necron units usually have? Isn't it just one gun or another for the immortals and that's it?

It's likely because most of the units have no options, so their guns are basically just included. (Ninja'd!)

I pulled some more captures, album is here: https://imgur.com/a/uhT9DEm

Aimed at getting points pages where possible, or clear shots of entries with a bunch of options (DW + GK, also Scions). Got some tactic pages too for those who can read them.

Also worth noting that there are multiple stat lines in some entries, with limits placed on them: Grey Knight, Grey Knight Gunner (2), Justicar (1) for example.

HARLIES
12 Player

0 Grenades?
2 Neuro Disruptor?
3 Fusion Pistol?
0 Shuriken Pistol?

4? Kiss
3? Caress
2? Embrace
0? Blade

What the feth? What is the point in playing Eldar at all without access to Scorpions, Banshees, Hawks, Reapers and Spiders? Or Warlocks!? Did the Mighty Shadespire Team TM Masters of Balance TM and Deep Gameplay TM look at the Guardian weapon platform and decide that was enough?

Aside, there are points for shuriken cannon, star cannon, bright lance, missile launcher and more, so looks like the platform did make it in.

My Harlies feel more customizable than my CWE. Which seems appropriate.

Only one option, but each model can take different weapons.

...same as any other? Taking a group of mostly normal, non-superninja troops and playing with that Dirty Dozen of your own?

Once again, this isn't going to be a game of "anything goes" from the start but a pretty low-key commando skirmish without all the crazy that 40k normally is with its walking god-engines, endless zealot hordes and space elf Avengers.

aaaaaaand you can very clearly see a reference to a Grey Knights psychic power that says "if the target is a Daemon..."

In a game mode.

That doesn't have any daemons.

Games workshop not givin a flying flip.

The lack of Daemons is incredibly frustrating to me.

"Well Daemons don't work in tit knit forces"

Y'know what they do do, though?

Show up and mess around. Sometimes in small numbers, especially on planets where people have been messing with the warp/chaos.

Zero reason why I couldn't see a few pink horrors popping up and throwing fireballs at a unit of orks who run into the wrong building full of dead cultists.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Its all pretty half hearted - losts of copy paste and some rules from Necromuna replacing those in Shadowar, drop units and Factions and done.

Remember its a game about elite teams conducting special missions - why on earth would you choose an Aspect Warrior over a Guardian
