I got my rulebook at the weekend and had to kind of take a wtf moment when I realised the movement was IGO-UGO and the other phases were alternating. I wonder what the game design behind this bizarre mixed choice was?
I was also annoyed that my purchase of the Kill Team cards didn't get me the ones for each faction in the rulebook. Apparently those cards and a few bonuses are in the faction starters... where you have to rebuy models and terrain you might already have loads of. So £37.50 a starter to get 12 cards.
I think GW are doing a good job in releasing all these new games, but the manner in which they're coming out is lousy.
That is the one part of it that really doesn't mirror Necromunda. I agree i think it should be activate one model then opponent activates. I dunno I just think overall that Necromunda has a bit of a better game play but Kill Team allows you to use a lot more diffferent armies.

In other words, there's no reason to take a Slaanesh Chaos Marine against Harlequins, so why do they have that specific tactic in the core book? Because it's an integral part of their backstory? Because it's in part a campaign based game where that would come up? Because people who play those types of themed games don't necessarily prioritize winning over that theme/backstory? This may come as a surprise but there were still some people who took demons by choice against grey knights despite the latter's benefits specifically against them in normal 40k back in the day.

Because this - specifically the asinine character wargear restrictions - is no longer a thing. I made that perfectly clear, several times, in this thread and in others. I was talking about the characters, and always have been talking about the characters. The fact that I keep referencing the character asinine character weapon restrictions from the Index should be obvious, 'least, I thought it was. Irbis wrote:Let's see, DW dreadnought? Still all of 2 weapons. DW bikers? Zero ranged options.
And some people laugh at me for saying that GW has a no model = no rule policy. Make up your minds folks... Irbis wrote: DW termies? Can swap melee weapons but for some reason thunder hammer isn't one of them so if you want one, no gun for you (and in general you can only ever put bits from either ranged or melee TDA boxes on one mini, mixing is verboten).
That's nothing new. Deathwing were the only ones who could mix'n'match. Swapping for a Hammer/Shield combo has been around since 2nd Ed. Irbis wrote:DW Vanguard? Kelly book era stupidity continues and you can't take relic frakking blade despite it being right in the middle of box picture, and in the assembly instructions, and on sprue. Freedom!
Fair enough, but your anti-Kelly stance is very odd. Did he hurt you? Irbis wrote:DW primaris? Didn't get bone every other primaris unit got in being able to take their chapter's signature sword (despite it not being on primaris sprues), I guess Cawl forgot to include plugs for Xenophase blades or something. Worse than that, Aggressors and Inceptors forgot to pick up SIA when it was being handed out during briefing, and to make it even better, most of primaris bolter weapons have completely inane point prices making them far more monobuild than their Codex counterparts as usually one loadout is much better than the others.
I think it's pretty clear by now that you are a digital person. You exist in a state of 0 or 1, with no middle ground. Why do I say that? Because you seem to think that when I said restrictions I meant the entire book. I just meant the characters. I have always just meant the characters. I have been very specific in my saying the characters. You not understanding that and going on this wild nonsensical and frankly insulting rant seems, at this stage, to be more of a you problem than a me problem. Imma ignore the rest...

If that is what you meant then what does reduced restrictions on character's equipment have to do with the equipment on regular mooks in Kill Team? It's really obvious that they want this to be a gateway in 40K so keeping the models legal to use in 40K and making sure that the options are easily obtainable are both sensible design restrictions.
Having people discover that their KT models can't transition into their first 40K army is just going to put people off making that jump.

That's an incredibly compelling argument.
You don't think a limited model count game that is playable in a shorter time and in a smaller space and is bundled with scenery and boards so that you can start playing straight away isn't intended as an easier gateway into 40K? Or you don't think that people starting in KT would be put off from making the transition into 40K if they discover they can't use their KT models?

I think Kill Team is likely intended to be Kill Team, funnily enough - there's certainly an opportunity for it to be a gateway, but that's likely a bonus and not the game's purpose.
The board size being perfect for card tables (box size restrictions aside) and not scaling into 40k boards is a prime example.

The other option is bolt action style. You have 10 models, your opponent has 8 models. You put 10 blue chits and 8 red chits in a bag, and draw each 'round'. There's the luck of drawing a run of your chits in a row, and activating your units one after another, but it will even out when you hit all of your remaining chits. BA uses dice for this, and the dice have the orders (move, move and fire, fire, etc) which are placed next to the model after it has done the action, as a reminder of what it has done.

The base rules don't technically have a maximum player limit, but the default Matched Play missions are all made for 2-4 players, showing the deployment zone of each player on the map. So either you'd have to house rule the deployment zones, or make your own missions. You might want to consider making the board bigger than even the 2 22x30" boards they use for 3-4 players though, to avoid things getting cramped.

I think they came out with their original plastic 40k terrain and it sold well. Then they came out with Sector Mechanicus and bundled it with Shadow War Armageddon rules and it sold out like crazy. So their next big 40k terrain project is sold as Kill Team. Another new terrain launch, but with the lessons of SW:A learned also applied. So the product accomplishes two goals. It provides those who want it with an easy to get into game and it increases the initial sales of their new 40k line of terrain to make sure those products hit their goals for Return on Capital. According to their CEO in the latest financial report, this product by product sales numbers and goals for return on capital is one of the things GW looks at even up to the level of their board of directors. Scott-S6 wrote: That's an incredibly compelling argument. I think KT would not exist if they didn't have a new line of terrain for 40k to sell. And given that the faction bundles are bundled with terrain, I think it's pretty reasonable to assume that the point of KT is to drive terrain sales. I think it's a feature that the models for KT will remain compatible with 40k, even if I would personally prefer it to offer more customisation.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I actually quite like it. I have a few ideas to combine it with the Citadel Woods terrain to make some dense jungle bases with removable tree clusters to allow models to enter. The normal trees will provide some variety and additional density too.
I also want to make a Catachan kill team, so there is a potential synergy to the ideas.

I wouldn't worry too much about "removable tree clusters" with the Shardwrack Spines and the like.
I've been working with them for my Idoneth(I'm attaching my Akhelians to the spines to look like Shyishian fauna and my Mor'phann are raiding along the Sea of Suicides) and you can definitely make it so that it gives the appearance of a 'forest' without you needing to mess around too much with the stuff.

The cluster ideas are so I can make dense jungle on bases, that I can still place models in (to get eaten...). I am aware the deathworld stuff is standalone, but I'd like it to be based. The Citadel woods provide a handy base to work with.

Give they’ve made a push to make home boards easy and not too expensive (Moonbase vs Realm of Battle), I reckon these starter sets ought to prove popular presents for folks.
I mean, you get a full squad of some description and terrain, for a not entirely unreasonable price (at least in my opinion. Others are available and that)
Certainly I’d be quite happy to receive one.
