I like how the Ryza ruins have much shorter stories than all of the other new terrain. The Mechanicus and Imperialis terrain are pretty tall for a game like Kill Team and have a lot of wasted vertical space. They're good for regular 40k I terms of playability and being able to reach under the floors and fit in larger models, but a lot of the models in Kill Team can barely make a normal move from one story to the next. Outliers like Poxwalkers can't even legally get off the ground.

In the last couple of weeks I bought Acolyte Hybrids, an Iconward, Sicarians and an Engineseer, and of course they reveal fancy new faction starters with the perfect compliment to the original starter set kill teams as well as brand new commander models. I doubt I'll be able to resist getting at least the GSC gunslinger anyway, the model is just too cool.

I'll reserve judgment on Arena until I see some of the rules, but it certainly could be promising.

Arena terrain looks to be another sprue of copy pasted bits, like we've seen in the Forgeshrine.

This time it's barrels and crates from the munitorm crate sprue, doors and pipes from the Rogue Trader sprue and a few new bits and bobs.

Some of the crates are new (AdMech symbol) and the bombs are new designs as well.

I think the doors may also be new, they don't look like the ones from Rogue Trader at first glance.

Anyone know if they are going to come out with a compiled rulebook? Didn’t they do that for Necromunda?

After a year.

More likely for there to be errata'd/FAQ'd rulebook. You might include Commanders, but you'd be adding 60% to the rulebook.

Do you mean the arena? Because 'desert with generic ruin walls' seems as far from interesting as you could get. That's basically every no-effort 40k table from 3rd edition onwards.

Well, these ruins and buildings look like they might actually block LOS, and my Space Marine Killteam is Desert themed.

Note, my displeasure comes from impulse grabbing Deathworld Forest, only for Wall of Martyrs to come out like a month later.

Yeah, they did it for Necromunda.
Starter box only rulebook plus four Gang War supplements @ $30/per supplement at a roughly quarterly release.
This was replaced by a compendium rulebook and gangs supplement for a total $110 approximately one year after the boxed game released.

Wow, I just realized a detail from the Arena expansion that escaped me in my initial excitement these past 24 hours...

Arena is providing rules for team play (i.e. 2 vs. 2). Read the Monofilament Tripwire card! I am that much more excited now.

Necromunda needed it as it wasn’t really complete till then, rules all over the place etc.

I can’t really see what a Kill Team Compendium would be?
Commanders is an expansion, as Arena seems to be.

I thought you were going to say you just realized that there were 'explodey barrels' that are painted red with skull+crossbones on them, and I was going to agree with you in that it is the best thing ever.

No, I had missed that detail about the barrels. But we already have some explodey stuff in Sector Munitorum I believe.

Also, This new Ryza Killzone is nice because it is a human terrain set with none of the markings of the Imperium or Mechanicum. I can use it for my Squat/Demiurge conversion (Deathwatch rules), my Brotherhood of the Auretian Technocracy conversion and I imagine others might use it for a Gue’vesa-themed board.

Hopefully if a model is in cover behind said barrel, and you miss a shot at this model by exactly one (so the shot would have been a sucess if not for the cover), then you actually hit the barrel and it explodes. Mordheim style.
But I actually believe they're objective markers.

The whole exploding barrel thing mystifies me. There are extremely few things you'd put in barrel that will explode when shot.

Certain video games (especially Doom ('93), although it wasn't the first) have a lot to answer for.

Where are you seeing those? I just see red canisters with the mechanicum symbol on them.

Random explosions in a competitive scenarios?

I hope not.

It depends what the barrel is shot with,

a flammable solvent (like petrol) won't go bang if you shoot it with a bullet (or even an incendiary) as you don't have enough oxygen, and that's generally going to be true for a laser too

but hit it with an explosive boltgun round which is going to disperse it as a fine spray mixing it with the surrounding air is going to give a most satisfactory BANG

Even flour will go up if you disperse it like that. If certain games are to be believed rolling the barrel into a wall or shooting it with an arrow will get you an explosion...

Yep, there's a tactic you can use if your target is hiding behind crates/barrels that with the right roll to wound will inflict a mortal wound.

I think the Adeptus Mechanicus terrain already has rules like this for random plasma venting.

Interesting that the new HQ models for GSC and AdMech have not been announced for pre-order in their own blisters. I would not have thought they would be available exclusively through the new Kill Team faction sets, even if it's only for a week or so.

It's really not that interesting.

It's what GW's been doing of late. They do an 'exclusive' release for a new item as part of a bundle.

That or it’s a fast one on the part of the creative team to get past a limitation on new sprue counts per release that was put in place by the bean counters.

The sprue count is still there...?

Or are you meaning blister count?

I mean there will be five or six characters with the genecult book, plus the bikers and maybe the alleged goliath variant.
If they can get away with reducing the nominal count of sprues included in the “codex genestealer cults release” by including one in the “kill team commander kit release” instead, more power to them. Bureaucratic shuffling at its finest, to be sure, but nevertheless a worthwhile effort in pursuit of a laudable goal.

Have the prices for the upcoming pre-orders been shared yet? Hoping that the AdMech team will be €40,- and that the Arena expansion is likewise on the cheap side.

Complete and utter speculation on my part, but I think the Arena expansion will be around $80 to $100USD--around the same price point as either a Killzone or the Urban Conquest set they just put out.

I'm expecting the AdMech set to be around $60USD though(same price point as the SW, Tau, Necron, and Ork sets--not sure what that is in Euros off the top of my head).

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Seems to be tons more plastic in Urban Conquest or a Killzone compared to this Quake III Arena box.

But there are going to be tons more rules in the Arena box most likely, so you have to take that into account. GW usually charges pretty steeply for rules.

I think you need to add in something roughly equivalent to the price of the Commanders expansion onto whatever the terrain looks like it is worth.

It looks like the same terrain from Rogue Trader, so I can't imagine they'll try to ask $100 for it. Even $80 is pushing it, unless the rules turn out to be a lot more substantial than they've suggested. I agree the new Kill Team sets will likely be at the $60 price point.
