Yes. Yes it is.

Spoiler:

Anyone else disappointed that there's a "Servitor Maniple" formation? It's like "Gee, the thing keeping me from using Servitors was that they didn't get special rules!"(said no one ever)

I like the sooped-up shokka, though I honestly think that SAGs should be 2D6 shots base. Then again, my deffskulls SAG actually performs fairly well.

Interested to see some of these formation rules. Right now I don't know how to feel.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Yeah, I'm stating to get the feeling that Formations will become a thing again. Afterall, 7th ed was basically 6th ed + Formations, so it wouldn't be a stretch to see expansions that include Formations start being the norm once all the Codices (or most anyway) are up to date.

But I am optimistic that they'll be different this time.
It looks like they are just giving Stratagems to specific units, rather than free stuff if you bring xyz.
So you still get "rewarded" for taking certain units, but you still have to pay CPs for the "reward"

No chaos is odd considering they are supposed to be the "main baddies"...

Guess the next book wont be far then.

Hype intensifies. My wallet is ready GW, I'm hovering over that Imperial Fists Box, just give the Crimson boys something tasty.

Indeed. So presumably this means we can't use the Imperial fist thing, which is kind of fine to be honest as it isn't that great. The downside is the risk that the crimson fist one is quite likely to be Sternguard-related, as apparently we have quite a lot of those.

The good news for me is that I'll have the option of choosing between the veteran intercessors thing or whatever it is that crimson fists get. I quite like the idea of having a bunch of intercessors with 3 attacks - or 4 if Kantor finds his way into my list any time soon.

Some of the formations look quite fun, but not all of them. I can’t see much point in having Calgar and a bunch of assorted veterans (as pictured), if that’s what the Victrix guard turn out to be.

But on the other hand it’s fun that the tank company is back. There was a brief moment about 18 months ago where the idea of 10 Leman Russ was pretty terrifying. If they get decent special rules then it’ll be pretty special.

One thing we do already know from these rumours is that mini-marines are not over. Here GW is bringing out mini-marine-specific formations. This may not mean any new models appear (and I doubt that we will). If all the formations had been Primaris-only that would have sent a strong signal, but actually the opposite is the case. The IF formation only really works for old stuff.

I think the Victrix Guard is just going to be the datasheets for the two chaps with shields accompanying Calgar, rather than a formation.

It says datasheet next to their name.

Of course they get new rules, making rules is relatively cheap but also a good way to shift some stock which I bet has not being selling well for at least 18 months...

I'd love to see the specific SM sales as a comparison before and after 8th edition, I bet they are poorer than most would anticipate.

Hmm. So, it seems the only faction mentioned in the "Forces of the" section that doesn't get accompanying rules is Drukhari?

Assuming "indomitus crusaders" is a knight detachment, that is.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

So White Scars have a nod in the "forces of" section, but nothing more to my eye (no formations, etc.). Should we take that to mean updated unit costs, but no new rules?

You're looking at the Vigilus campaign book here, not Chapter APproved. This isn't going to have any points costs updates.

So, GK terminators down 18 points? Are they still 44 like in the index currently? If they get that and access to full smite, that's pretty solid.

Nemesis wargears won't be 0pts, too. A net 6-8 pts reduct could be expected.

Do you have additional rumors pointing to an increase in the price of their wargear?

At present they have several 0pt wargear options.

Right, but I associate the "forces of" language with piles of datasheets and points costs. Maybe that's changed... but then what might be in that list that isn't new rules for detachments? Adepta Sororitas are on that list too, and we know they're getting a playable Codex in the other book, so there's something extra... Maybe just their role in the campaign?

New article about Chapter Approved.

Around 300 points for Wraithknight (before weapons i guess) and the Wraith Host detachment in Vigilus Defiant makes me excited for my Wraith army.

The lower of FW Prices is good, as well. I'd love to Field my Lancer for less than 480pts. A bit too high for what it does.

I notice that they cleverly skirt everyone losing their mind by making sure the "matched play" section came first.

Imagine if today's preview had been "open play"....lol.

Thank god Cultists went up in points, I may actually be able to field my untouched for over a year Chaos Marines in a game sometime without feeling like I am intentionally screwing myself. Now just take VotLW away from them (which makes no sense anyway) and they may actually be balanced.

But if Cultists are 5ppm what exactly are they planning for Guard will the mythical 6ppm guardsmen really become true?

The acceptable casualties rule feels like a bit of a bait and switch on knights players, yeah one of your FW knight might have been a tad overcosted it's now not, oh tabling nolonger wins you games enjoy holding objectives LOL.

Actually I think the Indomintus Crusade vets is the generic primaris vets formation and vitriox guard is the ultramarine specific formation.

Cultists aren't a 5 point model, and making them 5 points doesn't suddenly make Chaos Marines an option.

Seems like people are getting their gak twisted. Formations are in the new Vigilus Defiant book; a narrative play supplement.
This has nothing to do with Chapter Approved 2018.

It doesn't have anything to do with CA, but multiple users have reported that GW said in a seminar the formations would be for Matched Play too. It's not narrative only.
