I wasn't planning on doing that. I think I'll need to kit bash or something and get a second las cannon. I don't remember seeing a second las cannon.

There were 3 kits available, the original one had single las cannon and twin linked plasma guns, the other two either a twin linked heavy bolter or Las cannon.

I actually have a spare I used for my razorback conversion but you are too far away to send it in time

I gonna do something different this time. I haven't painted a marine in a very long time and actually this will be my first chaos marine ever.

Lord of Contagion.

Not sure if I'm going to make this challenge month. It's demon season and I'm working on a middle earth and a fantasy entry. Might see if I can speed paint my kharn if I get a moment or 2 between though.

Here's some progress on one of my Havocs.

I'll be cleaning this guy up as I go. The other two Havocs I'm working on have the black, blue and silver done.

@queen_annes_revenge: You always do great work, so I look forward to seeing the finished piece!

@Domican: Wow, that looks amazing! I'm glad I'm not the only one doing Nightlords.

Thanks, I do love a good dark blue colour scheme.

I just realised the painting challenge title says "Space Marines".
I presume the Chaos is implied?..

The official rules allow for anything that is some type of Space Marine, so Chaos Space Marines are allowed.

So, these evening I had another cheeky painting session. I've been trying to go ham on my language studies (everyone is hiding from the Coronavirus, so there's not a ton to do), but I've managed to squeeze in a little bit of painting time, too. An insight, if you will, into the process of a McBogus.

Ya can pretty much see what I'm intending here, with these fellas. Just finishing blocking in those base colours, and then it's on to the endless waves of edge highlights. But I tthink I'm making pretty good progress. Might see how quickly I can get a whole squad of Templars done as a challenge to myself after I finish these guys.

And GOOD LORD! Domican, that's some beautiful interior detail on the rhino! Though I'd always imagined a Night Lords transport to be filled with a bit more gore! Fantastic work! Looking forward to seeing what everyone produces in this contest!

Does that mean you're going to Adepticon?

So's other stuff--for instance some space wolves, I plan to do this month, if one of the 8 different ideas for the month don't distract me:

Well, well, well...

A week ago I brought the Dark Imperium Box set thinking I may get back to painting after a decade without picking a mini, and now I've found this thread. This is a sign from the emperor for sure!

Just need to grab a camera and do tryouts on some poor poxwalkers and I'm in !!

My proof picture. These three Deathwatch marines (from the Imperial Fists, Silver Skulls, and Space Wolves, originally) will form part of an inquisitor's retinue.

For some reason these themes never seem to fit with the model I'm currently painting lately... Next month I hope.

Here's some more progress on the Havocs' Aspiring Champion.

Just a few more details and touch ups and then it's onto the Heavy Bolter guy.

Making the first steps towards getting Angelos painted. I'm aiming for a display standard model this time as opposed to my usual tabletop, so going very slow and many more layers than I often do.

Started by evening out the black sections with Abaddon Black to ensure a smooth finish? then coated with a soft, dark highlight on Gabe's cloak using 1:1 Eshin Grey:Abaddon Black. I feathered it out a little on the inside left (GA's right) into the deepest part of the cloak to help that blend later. I did the same on the base before washing both with Nuln Oil.

Next I highlighted up using 2:1 Eshin Grey:Abaddon Blafk, highlight gabe's cloak and this time drybrush onto the base all over, and then pure Eshin Grey again. I also took the same steps on the chapter symbol and crux terminatus on his shoulders. In between coats I also through on some basecoats to another project I'm working on!

I'm going a slightly different route, can't believe it's been 6 years, I'm going back to the very first challenge all those years ago. Back then I posted an Imperial Navy Armsman, and since then GW has been kind enough to make rogue trader...

I've been wanting to paint these guys for awhile now, and this is a good excuse to dig them out of storage...

Here's my progress so far, ready to layer back up and start on highlights. What are your thoughts on freehand chapter symbols? Finish the armour fully first or do them now and work around them later?

Never work around, there's too much room for error. Always start with the easiest, messiest details and work towards the hardest. There's nothing worse than doing the best freehand, face, zenithal highlight, whatever, that you've ever done, and then realise you now have to be mega careful not to just slap than basecoat and wash on and ruin your hand work!

I like your work so far. That group of multi-colored marines reminds of the Power Rangers.

Thanks deadshot, that makes sense so I will leave the freehand until last.
And thanks for the feedback shadows and dust, go go space marines!

I attempted this once before and failed to finish. Just getting back into things so let's give it a go. Painting is always my weak spot, so hoping a regular challenge will give me a kick.

Two options. First one has had a wash as well as a prime, so not sure if that disqualifies him?

If so, then his brother from another deity will take his place.

Either are fine, basically you're allowed one colour past the priming at most, so the washed one is perfectly acceptable as there's nothing else done to it.

Looking good shadows and dust, really like the lightning. The photos look ok but would probably benefit from some white paper under the models as well as behind just to ensure the surface colours don't distract from the models.

I'm thinking of trying to add a smoke or flame effect to the salamanders flamer marine. Have seen some suggestions of cotton wool and PVA or hot glue for flame effects and I guess cotton wool would be the way to go for smoke.

Anyone done something like that before? What did/would you use? Smoke or flame?
