As the last few have been skewed towards the old, how about “fresh blood” “new reinforcements” or “latest and greatest”

If people are curious, I updated my index post with the names of all the past contests.

I like the "fresh blood" idea - could count as newest models, or new recruits into a gang, rpg characters in the early levels etc. Even a sacrificial victim.

Or to take a lead from Captain Brown's challenge for the latest LOER terrain comp,something around a medical/repair theme. Medics, painboyz, enginseers, objectives...(https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/787913.page10785587)

Not sure what themes you've used in the past, but how about 'deadly rivals' or 'ancient enemies'?

Fresh Blood is a neat idea, plenty of models can fall into the category...I like ti.

I like fresh blood for sure... lots of new kits out, GW sales are flowing again, and we could drive business to FLGSs as they reopen. It could even include new paints (Contrast, airbrush), new technical skills (weathering pigments, OSL, etc.), escalation units, get started boxes...

Adorable probably needs air quotes.

Not a fan of the Fresh Blood theme as I only have old models...and none require a coating of blood. But it that is the choice I will roll with it.

@Captain Brown: Surely some of them are the newest though - even if they are years (or decades?) old?

I was going to suggest medical/first repsonder - but monkeytroll beat me to it (and for the same reasons ).

Too soon for a plague / zombie theme?

I could go with New Blood if "new" extends to new techniques. I haven't really pushed myself in a while.

could also be fresh blood as an 'in world' concept..like a space marine scout or something along those lines.

Progress: Just need to do decals for my entry, then formal pics. Maybe tonight. Almost there.

I may be out for this, the undercoat I have used has obscured some details, the spray definitely smells like enamel.

I'll keep on painting them up but if they are terrible I'll not post anything up

Looking particularly nasty and plague-ridden. I can't wait to see the finished pieces. In time for the contest or not.

Let’s call that done. More old school from the back of the bench. all have probably done time in the Blood Angels. I know both the metals for sure, and the plastics are a mix of two old forces, stripped broken down and rebuilt. So probably a little BA in there. First real try at a tattoo. Think it turned out pretty good. Old and worn, just the the marine who wears it.

At this point over half of my painting output for the year is Rogue Trader era minis. Only 6 left in the primed pile. I should get back to stripping and rebuilding the rest of them.

That tattoo is very subtle-- it really looks like old, faded ink.

Nearing the finish line now just need to finish highlighting the metals, reds, blacks and masks. Any thoughts on the scheme so far?

Javelin - nice work on those boys, and great tattoo.

Jamie - I like it, quite understated for Harlies. Interesting choice on keeping the half-mask all the same colour, most people would probably automatically half the colours. Fits the scheme nicely.

Cheers monkeytroll I did think about splitting the colours on the half mask but couldn't think of a suitable colour, maybe gold would work?
