How about we focus on expanding the generic characters first and then consider supplementing them with special characters?
If they release Vect it'd be with a total refresh of the line, same as what happened with Necrons getting Szarekh.

There is no Deny because Psychic Phase and Psychic Tests aren't a thing.

There is no psychic power section. Psychic Powers are now either weird guns that the wielder just shoots (and they usually have an overcharged version that can hurt them to simulate Perils), or some rando buff they can do. You don't get to choose powers. Powers are set to specific characters. There's no deny the witch. The only faction that has any variety here are 1KSons as they have a list of generic powers that anyone can cast based on their Cabal Point system. Everyone else is just one or two set powers per psyker. It's what you might call a massive over-correction, or, in GW terms, business as usual.

I've always liked psychic powers in 40k, but I've never really seen the need for a whole phase or special rules around them.
They're either buffs, debuffs (these 2 cover everything from teleporting to protection etc), ranged attacks or melee attacks.
It was relatively arbitrary how they represented them, but I don't see anything wrong with them being listed as abilities or weapons.
perils was more for flavour than anything else, which is probably why in the last edition psychic powers produced mortal wounds so much, to offset the risk of perils.
THere's really only two things I would like to see potentially appear in the current version:
purchasable extra powers (ie farseers buying mind war)
psychic duelling/deny style rules
so like the melee section lists a basic melee weapon to fight with, the psyker key word might list the 'psychic defence' ability that all psykers get.
They may target an enemy psyker within 12" in the command phase. Roll 1d6: 1 -2 fail, 3-4 success, 5-6 super success
If they succeed the target must make a LD test to avoid having a psychic keyworded attack/ability shut down (target player's choice). super success gets -1 to Ld test.
Something like that. You could have a feed back rule where if the target succeeds on their test and rolls a double, the attacker must test for hazardous as their mind is scrambled by feedback.
Provides a little uncertainty and risk so it's not always used.
Other than that, a psychic blast is mechanically just a gun, so treating it as one is not an issue for me.

That's a pretty far-fetched assumption, since the last few 'faction bosses' were part of versus boxes or standalone releases: Azrael, Ghaz, and even the Lion.
if they aren't going to do it for marines, they aren't going to do it for Dark Elfs.

Changing them to weird guns isn't what bothers me, and I certainly don't care whether there's a psychic phase or not. It's that there's no choice and powers are set per model type.

I remember Ghaz releasing alongside a ton of new ork models. It's different for loyalist marines because they just get new stuff whenever anyone else gets new stuff and also get new stuff in between other factions getting new stuff.

Speedfreeks wave came with 8th edition codex, Ghaz was Psychic Awakening, Beastsnagga and AOBR 2.0 waves came with 9th edition codex, Kommandoz were a KillTeam release and now we got Snikrot as our Arks of Omen release.
For all our problems with the rule writers, orks are undeniably one of the best supported factions in terms of model releases.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Gearing up for tpdays preview, I'm expecting cult ambush to either be gone or represented as a detachment that allows more deepstrike/a deployment shenanigan. I'd wager crossfire is the army rule now, with a modifier to hit when targeting units already wounded that turn. I'd also imagine either acolytes as the unit or the weapons preview so they have an excuse to prep people for the inevitable consolidated mining weapons melee profile.

It might do if it has no stipulations on positioning.
For what it's worth, here's an image going around of the first rules interaction punishing knights.
It can't charge the russ due to terrain & objective marker.

No standing on objectives works a lot better with physical 3d objectives that are meant to be held rather than just abstracted circles on the ground. Not much point in holding a sacred statue if you just run it over to park a baneblade on the spot it is mounted.

It's likely not an immediate or obvious thought though, that gap is wide enough for a knight to get through under other circumstances.
Further to that there's all sorts of weird set ups we might see with stuff placed strategically to make it impossible to charge units, such as rhinos at 12 and 6 on the objective then a unit deployed 1-5 and just far enough away from the marker that you can't actually charge them and are forced to go through the transports.

Why have they changed the rules for obscuring on ruins? Seems like now Towering units like Knights ignore obscuring both ways so they cannot be obscured but you can't be obscured back either? Seems a little screwed up to me?
