I really liked the original, the later games just became way to musch spam said unit, kinda like some 5th edition codexes.

The original's tactics and use of "hard counters" was the best.

Soulstorm is my favourite as it has the full map to conquer your way across but unlike Dark Crusade the buildings are reset down to minimum each time.

But I do miss the original DoW's infiltrate rule, ie no shooting while infiltrated. The infiltrated units that stand there and blaze away at your unit which you can't shoot back at is just ridiculous.

But I still love Soulstorm (SoB ftw!)

I prefer Dark Crusade myself, I dont really think that air units add much to game play and the SoB and DE dont feel like new factions.
but i liked the new maps on Soulstorm.

Well... Dawn of War II is a Real Time Tactical game, whereas all the other DoW games are Real Time Strategy games. Comparing them is kinda pointless, like asking which is the better First Person Shooter - Doom or Zoo Tycoon.

Anyway, I love Dark Crusade, because I love the Risk-Style persistent map. I hate having to research Power Fists at the start of each mission, but at the very least the maps remain mostly as I left them.

Yep, Dark crusade is my favourite. As an expansion pack, it adds the most balanced units out of all the games, plus, daemon princes are just rad.

Dark Crusade definately, I loved the new campaign mode it brought it. Soulstorm was also good but I hated the way your buildings reset after each game.

I voted Soulstorm cause of all the new maps which were excellent. Haven't tried DoW 2 though.

And while the campaign for Dark Crusade was the most original, I loved DoW original campaign with the Blood Ravens.

I've only played the original and Winter Assault. I want to try DoW II sometime, though a friend of mine says it sucks, because Space Marine Squads are only ever four men, or some rubbish like that.

By the way, I play Blood Ravens.

My fav was winter assault. I liked the linear Campaign, and the story was good, IG were rather balanced, and the snow maps were Great. Game made it fun to play both sides, with alternate storylines.

I like Darkcrusade, but the Campaign killed it for me. Loved the more factions. But I felt like I was playing risk, not a story. The mods though.... Thats were a I spent lots of my time. FoK eat away months of my life. Made Dark Crusade into some mix of the table top and DoW2. Amazing.

DOW 2. It's just so much more tactical. With the others it's just run in with big army and PWN enemy. With DOW 2 you have to pick the right units for the job, and the enemies are pretty smart for AI players. Plus the online's better too (LAST STAND GAMEMODE FTW!!!).

Dark Crusade. They steadily got better up to Dark Crusade, Soul Storm was silly because of all of the things like hell talon's and fighta bomba's making it WAY easy. DOW2 just isn't the same, its not as fun imho

London.

I thought they were incredibly poor games.

Tactical scope is limited, and many units are useless. The maps are small and the graphics are average. Compared to a more professional RTS like Company Of Heroes; DOW falls flat on many levels. It does the tabletop game little justice in terms of reflecting gameplay when a Predator tank can absorb missiles like a sponge, and can be felled by much smaller weaponry given ample time.

To this end, tactical elements fall by the wayside in terms of spammed attacking units. Using the aforementioned COH; units should be delicate things with extreme strengths and weaknesses, but unfortunately this is not the case. It's also full of irritating voices which will make you hate your favourite race. The chance to see tanks etc rolling around is nice, but it is a juvenile game.

I enjoyed dark crusade. The tau and necrons were really a great edition I thought, and soulstorm, though cool I think everyone just wanted Nids, and that's not what they got.

DW2 is a great looking game, the campaign is just not that fun though. A lot of people were hoping for DW with enhanced graphics, and instead got a whole different game. I would have liked it a lot more if it had not been made the direct sequel to dawn of war, but what can you do now? The reviewers all pee'd up their pants about how great it was that it was different, but all the fan reviews are much more to the point. Great game, just not what all the die hard fans were wanting/expecting. Hopeing that the expansion will give the fans back what they want.

Not a big RTS player.

On the train headin down to delicious town

Dark Crusade.

The characters were supremely awesome (so much so they had to bring thule back!) but I loved the IG commander and Goregutz is second only to Orkamungus!

But seriously the HQ maps in that one were aweosme (IG and Tau Im looking at you) and no faction was too powerful (though taking down Necrons as IG was a pain)

My main problem w soulstorm was the addition of pointless flying units and that goobery space marine commander who couldnt even talk right...i had a real hard time taking him seriously...

Having played all of them, I'd say Dark Crusade. I enjoyed the style of the single player game. I'm a big RTS guy, so DoW 2 isn't really the same. It's a lot closer to company of heroes than DOW 1.

Chaos rising was pretty fun though. DoW 2 is getting better, as time goes on.

Dark Crusade was easily the best add on to Dawn of War. Probably the best RTS i've ever played, spent weeks playing it every night multiplayer style. Soulstorm was pretty good to.

What upset me most was Dawn of War 2. They changed the game to something i completely disliked. I just wish they stuck with the old format with better graphics and a new engine, would of been totally sweet.

This, exactly.

I loved DoW, still do actually. I played DoW2 a little bit during the Beta, and it actually convinced me to not buy it. I haven't really heard anything good about the game since then either, just that the single player campaign got really repetitive, and the Multiplayer is about the same as it was in the beta. No thanks.

I don't understand why they messed with an award-winning formula, instead of just expanding and improving it.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...
