Cool-

I like the new progress. The armour incorporates quite nicely, boxing the engine in. Have fun in Cornwall.

I think your work, and a few others on Dakka, motivate me to get Bigtoof build fast so I can start working on the models. Thanks!

Looking good, it's got the 'we're gonna copy a rhino' feel coming along nicely when viewed from the front. Enjoy Cornwall!

Thanks a lot guys - your continued interest and comments mean a lot. Still a lot of damage, plates and glyphs to add to reduce some of the clean SM lines - but I wait until I've chopped everything up to fit first so I know where to put them! Hopefully it looks like a trukk built with rhino parts rather than, say, a looted vehicle - as that was what I was going for!

In case it wasn't obvious - those armour plates lift right off (especially important as, for the moment, I don't actually use them!)

Holiday in Cornwall is almost over. I'm all rested ready for the final stretch to the 3rd July - 3 weeks to go. Final deliveries are waiting for me at work on Monday. Still so much to do...

Aim for this week is to once again finish the final two Trukks (modelling wise). I have more paint to finish spraying the first Trukk - I need to finish it completely (painted) by the end of next week, as I only have room for two Trukks in my carrying case on the plane.

Further sketches look like my second Deffkopta will be Avatar style - Grot Apache and Landspeeder style will just have to wait for later. *If* I can finish Trukk modelling this week I *might* make an early start on it...

Other than that - expect a pic update Monday night (well, Tuesday morning for anyone with sanity).

Back from Cornwall. Work was a bit excessive today, so not as much time as I had planned. Still, as promised - WIP pic:

I dithered a little on where to continue on the Nob Trukk (managed to cleanup a single boarding plank, and played around with the idea of magnetising the front wheels - the back wheels of the standard Trukk are the same size as the FW Half Trakk front wheels - but ended up leaving as is), so switched to da Big Mek's flying transport. Engine is now finished and, apart from probably some more (any) damage and glyphs, the reinforced ram. Removable, of course. Actually, for that matter, interchangeable with my first Trukk too. (Technically interchangeable with the Nob Trukk as well - but given that one will be painted white for Deffwing, it may look a little *odd*)

Will be attacking the original Trukk with spraygun and Orkhide Shade tomorrow, I mean this morning

Quick WIP of da Big Mek's Trukk before I hit the sack. Decided today's target was to get the boarding plank done. Of course, this required building the cab first, which required building the driver first - argh! Too late (early?) and too tired - will address other comments tomorrow, no, later today

Looking good . I can still see a few mould lines on the boarding plank, don't forget to remove them before painting!

@The Good Green: You and me both The paint will come (and is a requirement for my 3rd July deadline - eeek!)

@Rose_Mountainz: I have the magnetising pretty much down pat at the moment. What is taking all of the patience is customising each Trukk to be a unique snowflake! There is a good 5hrs between the last two WIP pictures. Maybe I'm just slow...

@CommissarKhaine: See response above re paint Yes, the boarding plank (and wheels for that matter) have not yet been cleaned up. Rest assured they will be. While I do tend to clean up as I go, the way the boarding planks attach means that I don't actually make any modifications to them, so they normally miss out until later. (One of the Nob Trukk boarding planks still needs cleaning up too...) I will try to post a picture pre paint with enough time for you to catch anything I missed! (Actually, I do that for any last minute suggestions too...)

Thanks for the comments guys - helps keeps the spirit up while I work towards my insanse deadline. Due to late nights (early mornings) I haven't bascoated the first Trukk yet - I think I'll have to make an effort for an early night tonight so that I can do it tomorrow morning. Work has been a bit insane, which hasn't been helping!

Apologies for not commenting enough in your threads - I do enjoy and keep on top of them though!

@moonshine: Thanks! Glad to provide inspiration. Be sure to let us know what you get up to, or better still - start your own Dakka project blog!

Right. No pic today. In a brief moment of sanity I decided to make it an early night, so didn't get much further on the Trukk - just magnetised the gunner seat/ledge. Why? Well it was going to make painting around/under it nigh on impossible - so this way I can place it in later. Occasionally magnetising stuff can be tricky due to thin pieces or inaccesible locations - both of which occurred here - in which case I've found creating mount points for the magnets a lifesaver - just drill holes into a piece of plasticard the same thickness as the magnet you are going to use, cut to size, and glue to the appropriate location(s) Added advantage is the the back will be perfectly flat (not achievable with a drill...). I have also magnetised the drivers arms (previously) for the same reason! (The FW Enclosed Cab Trukk - the driver is not removeable...)

Much mucking about, cursing and eventually spraying occurred this morning - so now everything that was previously black undercoated is now Orchide Shade. I really think I am going to need a compressor and probably a better airbrush - those compressed air cans from GW are rubbing me the wrong way, and the level markings that are supposed to get the consistency right, don't (well, not any time I've tried...) Once everything is working, its great - but getting there (and trying to be efficient about it) - not so much... Still - I am now ready to paint the frist Trukk next week, which is necessary for logistical issues of carting models between Coventry and Scotland... (oh, and you'll see more paint next week - yay!)

I was wondering, given I have magnetised the Big Mek Trukk so that the sides can be in the raised or lowered position (or absent), whether I should use these to represent Armour Plates - or is that a cop out? Originally I was toying with adding wheel guards, or perhaps even some structure to the back. Thoughts?

No cop outs!

Seriously though, that might get confusing compared to your other trucks. Have you considered black orc shields from WHFB? You could mount them on a rail and then magnetize said rail - viking longship style, shields on the sides!

Trukk 1 has an open cab, the standard half sides with gaps for boarding planks and is open at the back. Armour plates makes the sides full height.

Trukk 2 (Nobz, later Meganobz) has an open cab, beefy Rhino sides with gaps for boarding planks and is open at the back. Armour plates enclose the cab and add some protection to the front wheels and, to a lesser extend, the engine.

Trukk 3 (Big Mek) has an enclosed cab, optional half sides with no gaps for boarding planks in either a flat or upright configuration, optionally closed at the back. Armour plates do what without confusing anyone - especially me!?

The orc shields idea is a good one. I had considered magnetising plates to add on previously (on all three), which would be similiar, though less viking inspired I could use a similar idea for making wheel guards - just drop the rail and shields to wheel level. This will require further thought...

Funnily enough - I bought some of the new Boarboyz for (amongst other things) - their cool shields. I was planning to make raised Blood Axe symbols on the Nobz Trukk with two crossed Choppas with a shield in front...

@moonshine: Can't wait!

WIP pictures - finished gunners and wreck'in ball attachments - all removable of course!

Once again I've failed to make my goal of completing the Trukks this week. And there is still so much to do, and some tricky stuff too...

Plan for my last two weeks... (before Crucible)

Monday - paint first Trukk - I'm only expecting to get as far as base coats, and only on the parts I need, the detail will have to wait... I need to transport this to Scotland this week, as my carry cases will only let me take two Trukks on the plane at a time...

Tuesday - finish modelling Nobz Trukk and Big Mek Trukk - very big ask...

Wednesday - model painboy, boss pole nob and finish cloak on meganob. Nothing too special happening here (well, will attempt robes/cloaks on all) - so challenging, but should be possible...

Thursday - Deffkopta II - another very big task - more so than the Trukks I reckon...

Following week - paint! Trukks, Deffkoptas, Boyz, etc

If by some miracle I actually manage all of this - be prepared to comment quickly, cos once the undercoat goes on its too late!

Found my rhino top access doors, which are tempting me to use them for my wheel cover armour plates on the Big Mek Trukk - however - they will angle out because of how the wheels are, and I'm not too sure how to attach them (and keep them removable) - yet...

I like the look; god luck on getting it finished! As for the deffkopta: if you have a reasonably clear idea where you're going, you can finish one in a few hours I reckon. I would suggest spreading the Wednesday menu over three days though; gs needs to cure, and that way you can do a layer a day without smudging earlier work.

A few hours huh? And I thought I was being optimistic! Excellent thought on the GS though - I think I might bring them forward to Monday, so I can GS across the week, shifting everything else down... Goes to show that even blogging the most (seemingly) mundane things can result in good advice!

@Brother Bartius: Thanks! Will it be Eldar or something else for you @ the crucible?

@moonshine: Thanks for sharing! The grot looks well placed in the wreck'in ball. How much did you end up magnetising? I *wish* I was able to turn around things that quickly! (Maybe if I stopped kustomizin everything!) I too can't wait to see my Trukks painted either - but I have a feeling you will beat me to it!

@Imperial Monkey: I have Crucible on 3rd July, and Silver Sorcerer on 21st/22nd August. Any weekend between those that I can get past Da Boss is a possibility. How goes your painting?

@moonshine: Funny - I didn't magnetise any of my Big Shootas - they are simply removable. I will eventually make some Rokkits to swap with them.

@Brother Bartius: Looking forward to it, assuming our paths cross!

So, Partick Crucible (http://www.scribd.com/doc/30572609/Partick-Crucible) is in two weeks. I have a hectic and full schedule to complete as listed above. Your timely comments and suggestions are much appreciated, nay, required!

On the excellent advice of CommissarKhaine, I moved my Painboy, Nob and Meganob up to Monday night's task - and I am happy to report I actually was successful! In addition to allowing the GS to cure for any further work, it also gives you a (small) chance to add your comments, and more importantly your suggestions, before I reach base coat stage.

So here goes:

Painboy:

Nob with Bosspole:

Meganob with updated robe/cloak:

After so much time spent on my Trukks, I'm just shocked I managed to get these both out in a night - maybe there is hope for the 2nd Deffkopta yet! Probably to no surprise, cleaning up the metal painboy took longest. Doing two and a half robes/cloaks wasn't exactly quick either. The saying that you will always mix more GS than you need does *not* apply to robes!

I'm actually quite happy with how the Painboy and Nob with Bosspole came out. Can't quite put my finger on why I'm not as ecstatic about the Meganob. Anyway - over to you awesome Dakkites - we don't have much time to perfect these!

Too true!

The robes look pretty good. The Painboy looks best to me, smoothest robe and best integrated with the model. I think some signs of how the shoulder pads and/or boss pole attach to the cloak, for the Nob that is.

As for the MegaNob, I think a pic of the top would help. It looks like he has the biggest cape, but it attaches in the smallest way... like he is wearing a triangle.

I really like the apparent difference in speed by how windy the robes look. Slow and Purposeful really comes through in the meganobs cap. The Meganob's and Painboy's capse accent their poses quite well, too.

I think you could probably call them done, but I think you could do better.
