I had to drop out unfortunately. Things are tight for me at the moment, and as much as I would like some of their stuff, I will have to bow out for now.
If the Ysian horsemen had of made it, or Albainn monstrous Ogre types, I would have considered selling a kidney. Thankfully for me that is likely to be for the next kickstarter.

I understand if you're money is tight. But just if you weren't aware, if you could manage to stay in with the £30 pledge (even the £10 pledge, I think), the pledge manager will stay open for a good long while I believe, allowing you to add later if you manage to stumble on some spare cash in a few months. Backers will also get a good discount (around 20%) on the rest of their range for a while also. Worth considering, just for the savings if you're thinking of picking stuff up at some point in the future. Obviously I respect your position, it was just incase you weren't aware of the discounts on their whole range for ks backers.
If those sculpts don't make it in... will they possibly just fund sculpting them on their own?
Somehow, companies Used to sculpt things and THEN get payment for it . BaneBeasts was amazing at this prior to Mierce! So, I hope their only new releases are not from kickstarters from here on out, I'd love to see some normal releases too.
They are unlikely to release them on their own (certainly not all of them),
remember when they were releasing Banelegion minis they had a larger business to subsidise their costs , However they will form the starting point for future a future KS project (just like this project features stuff they had the art done for a while back during KS1 and earlier)
Of course if the business does well what they could do becomes bigger
Don't know how they'll do it. But if it's going to take them around a year to fully ship this ks, I don't know if I can see them doing normal releases before fulfilling these orders. And by then there may be a 3rd ks. Don't know, but I don't think I'd expect anything for a while.
More than happy to be proved wrong though. You're right, though. Sometimes you do wonder how these things ever used to be done.
Its possible. Look at the "You're their descendant" pledge level - £2,000 for concept art and miniature sculpting. I'd use that as the price for the developing and putting into production the average human. So a five man unit probably costs the best part of £10,000. It's a big figure, and they'd need to make some decent profit. Getting more retailers on board will help, but that takes time.
Building the game and community up is probably one of the best approaches they can take at the moment. One thing that would help them is if they produced demo packs for retailers and fans alike - something that they can use to build interest.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh look - more concepts. The Knife Drunes are laid out:
I'm hoping to see 130k at least as that would cover infantry for my three factions.
Those Scout Drunes being unlocked would make it very hard for me I avoid Ysians though...
£110,000 has been scorched into submission thanks to the wallets and purses of many backers and their feverish owners pledging like mad pledging things - which means all you Byzantii lovers are in clover. The Legionary Contunbernium will be produced!
That, of course, means that we can unveil the next stretch goal, and what a stretch goal it is. Seza is the first Abhorrent for the Ysians, a three-legged monstrosity of blade and hoof and female parts married to an intelligence far beyond that of the mere Brutes that she leads. It can truly be said that the Flesh-Drunes and Harvest-Drunes are insane!
Seza is a monstrous commander and will stand on a 60mm base. She'll be around 60mm tall to the eye, so she's pretty tall and well able to look other monstrous infantry in the eye - before chopping their heads off, of course!
As it states above, Seza is FREE to any backer that has pledged for the "DARKLANDS, UHTRED & NOBLES" or "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT" rewards, and a little bit cheaper for anybody who has pledged for the "DARKLANDS & UHTRED", "DARKLANDS & UHTRED, EARLIER" or "THE SWEET SPOT" rewards; increase your pledge by £20 if you've chosen the latter two rewards, and by £25 to get her if you've chosen any other reward!
Good to see there are still a healthy number of "counts as" models in the range, whether by accident or design. I will no doubt be acquiring Seza as a Slaaneshi DP for my 40K army, even though I don't intend to collect Ysians. As much as I like the aesthetic and quality if the minis, having one eye on their utility in other systems isn't a bad idea!
I know she's "set" at £135,000, but you may as well add her to your pledge if you want her, because we'll be making her regardless! She's just too awesome not to.
Talking about Seza above, he's also clarified that this is the only mini that will make it if not funded by the KS (She's a personal favourite and they can't afford to do the same for any others)
I wish those Angelcynn hosts had been announced a touch earlier!
I just bought a lot of those minis a few days ago!
Project Update #24: More Encounter and Skirmish Hosts...
Posted by Mierce Miniatures ♥ Like
It's time to unveil a couple of new Encounter and Skirmish Hosts, both for the Angelcynn, and both available now - i.e., there's no need to unlock them, so pledge away!
The main reason we didn't do these before was simply because of the lack of artwork for the Werwulfas; it looks like we still won't get that before the end of the Kickstarter, but we'll put these on here anyway.
So, here's the new Encounter Hosts...
The above encounter hosts can of course be selected within a "THE SWEET SPOT" reward.
Here's the new Skirmish Hosts too!
These hosts can be added to other rewards simply by increasing your pledge level by the relevant amount, of course.
Bah, upped my pledge as I was going to get the five guys in the Drydraig unit anyway, this way I get the commander for free by getting the Encounter host.
Bossk_Hogg wrote: Anyone know if they are having the pledge manager open after this ends? I cant do much now, but would add on later. Thanks!
Also, boo on those Melisune fake boobs on Seza.
Yes you will be able to add cash later
basically your pledge will be turned into credit in their webstore with a special section visible only to KS2 backers where you can spend it on items a t KS2 prices,
you'll also be able to spend more by CC at the same time. If it runs like KS1 everything will remain available to you at the KS2 prices until it hits retail
so pledge what you can now and add later
if you can stretch to the Darklands + Uhtred level that gives you the rule book + the KS limited edition Uhtred mini + freebie Finnian mini for £30 (+ shipping if needed)
You will need to pledge at the £10 level at the very minimum though (otherwise KS don't pass on your details)

Yeah I know how much of a discount can be had, I just don't have the cash on hand to do it. Especially not after today when a graphics card given to me so I could have an upgrade fried itself and took my motherboard and most likely the processor out with it. If it's taken out other parts I am even more screwed.
Perhaps pulling out was fated. Was in for around £130 but there's no way I can stretch that, not now. I'll keep an eye out for the next one for sure. Will have to pick up Crom, Finnian, Bagseg and Zethag some other time.
Will I get hit with that 10 pound shipping every time I want to add something to my order?
I'm in for the rules at the moment, but would happily add a few figures post campaign.
Can I just keep adding figures to one order that keeps growing larger and larger, and just pay the one shipping fee?
I want the Brythoniaid monstrous commander, and a few other random Khthon pieces. Can I add a new piece every week to my order?
Not sure how KS2 will work but with KS1 I got free shipping with every 50gbp I spent, so I would get chunks of shipments containing my orders. (but I did spend a billion dollars or so)
I did pay for shipping once or twice for a "send what's available now" option.
I see
Royal Mail Airsure or International Signed For*: £10.00 per package
which is probably the 10gbp thing. They might be upping their fulfillment to that as a minimum due to some packages getting annihilated with the standard free slow shipping option.
Either way they did allow orders to build up, at least in my case.
Shipment Wave 0: before 2014/early 2014, depending on how many orders there are. This shipment wave will only happen if you pay extra to ship miniatures that are already available from our back catalogue when you manage your pledge. Malacant would also be included with this shipment if you pay extra to have him shipped in December 2014.
Shipment Wave 1: June 2014. This shipment wave will include the rulebook, concept art book, Uhtred, Finnan, Danilo Cruz, all of the Noble miniatures, Malacant and Mag ap Mag.
Shipment Wave 2: August 2014. Cnebba, Holumenn unit, Djiuzu, Legionary Contubernium, Praach, Broga, Gabrax unit so far.
Shipment Wave 3: October 2014. Gesíthas unit.
£10 will get you everything shipped with the last items on your order,
you can add £10 to get shipping in any extra waves of your choice getting everything cast up to that point
(and if you added existing items, later on they'd be slotted in with your next delivery)
so one wave £10, 2 waves £20, 3 waves £30 or all 4 waves £40
Post from Ryan Smith on the KS (not me) Hopefully this gets some of you on the fence to cross over!
two days left to go! Keep spreading the news, referring your friends, and letting everyone know just how awesome these miniatures are! We’ve unlocked the Byzantii as of this morning, and the Gesithas are right over the horizon!
For those who are counting, if we unlock everything that’s been announced, that’s seven mounted models (£30 each), 33 infantry models (£10 each), and 12 monstrous infantry models (3 at £25, 9 at 30, and 2 at £40), plus Seza (who’s not on there yet) at another £25, plus the rulebook. At Kickstarter prices, that’s £1,025. At retail, it’s even more (~£1,200) – that’s a 41% discount!
So, now that I’ve talked myself into the Nobles pledge, what else can you show a new backer to try to convince them?
£115,000 – Praach, Braying Gabrox. A bigger Gabrax.
- Part of an £80 rumored Fomoraic Encounter Host (Brunchaath, 10 Gabrax, and a Gabrox)
- £25 for all backers
- Will stand on a 60mm base and will be around 50mm tall to the eye
- http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/ks2/gabrox.jpg
£125,000 - Broga, an Angelcynn monstrous commander who's a wereofor (a were-boar).
- Free for Nobles pledgers
- £25 for CAPS pledgers
- £30 for everyone else
- http://www.mierce-miniatures.com/ks2/broga.jpg - The Angelcynn Skirmish host will have Eadric, Cynemon, 10x Duguth, 5 Werewulfas, and a Guthwulf for £180.
- The Angelcynn Encounter host will have Cearl and 5 Werewulfas for £80.
£135,000 Ysian Seza.
- Blade-Abhorrent for the Ysians
- Free for Nobles, £20 to CAPS backers, £25 for everyone else.
- Mierce has stated that she’s getting made even if her goal isn’t met, but it will be, because we have to unlock the Teulu!
- Anatomically correct, and Mierce made a point to remind us all that she’s got three loincloths.
[Level Unknown] Albiann Gaimorlom, veteran spearmen.
- £30 for 5 warriors with command, £55 for 10 warriors with command, £30 for 5 warriors without command.
[Level Unknown] Gomagg, an Albiann Giant
- On a 120mm base; will be 160mm to his eye (and thus taller than Krull or Mjagnir).
- Price estimated (but not confirmed) about £70 (Retail of £80).

Er, yea. That's me.
Also, the Teulu are listed as (hopefully) for £140,000 because there is currently a poll on the Comments section for the backers between the Teulu and the Gorgorars being the £140,000 goal. The poll is open until the project reaches £115,000. To vote, just post which of the two you'd like it to be.

Yes people vote Teula so the two forces I want both have infantry
Plus interesting new comments from...the comments section!

@Ed - Byzantii and Atalantes will get war machines for sure, very unlikely the others will. Cavalry definitely except for the Khthones, missile troops for every kindred.
Creator Mierce Miniatures 3 minutes ago
@The_Minsk - yea... watch out for those Albainn crossbowmen too. Norse will get berserkers, but so will most Germanics. Wait until you see the Angelcynn ones... ooops...
Almost everything they produce I want. Apparently 25 years of mini gaming has been priming me for an alternate history Dark-Age TTG.
Even that thumbnail is something I want to buy!
I've got an auction running on eBay that keeps climbing, even with almost 24 hours to go.
I listed the items purely to raise funds for this, so the more it climbs, the bigger my pledge gets. One can only hope other people are in a similar position, as I personally really want the Gabrax and Gabrox unlocked.
Bolognesus wrote: If the last KS is anything to go by, Mierce wil count additions to pledges in the total, so 130K should be a shoe-in. 140K could be iffy.
They'd be a bit odd if they didn't, as I'm currently in for £100, with the possibility of more to come, but I'm only pledged to the £30 Early Bird.
The last one hit over 140k on the site (and then they stopped tracking it as it had hit all the goals).
Easily would have hit 200k by the sounds of it on the site, the number of people that more than tripled their pledges afterwards was amazing. Once the actual sculpts came out (think Hydra and Dragon!) people jumped on them.

For God's sake don't let her find out you called her really heavy on a public forum with thousands of members, she'll take all your toys away!!
Think for me, at least initially, I'll only be getting the stuff to fill out my Norse and Brythoniad. The Anglycnn keep calling to me, but I've convinced myself that if I ever did a third it would be the Eirann.

Just so long as it was only the toys she took away...
Like the Fomoraic beasts concepts, but I would much rather have armoured human infantry to go alongside the monsters. I did message Mierce about this, and they assured me they intended to produce 'warriors of baalor' at some point. Without such a unit the human standard-bearer, commanders, sorcerers etc look a little lost.
Allow me to just drop this here for you new backers and those who are tempted - Your friendly neighbourhood pledge information post now with addition material: Hope it's useful - feel free to take, adapt, re-use and expand.
So what's this kickstarter all about?
It's about supporting the expansion of the Darklands game. The main aim is the get the first edition of the rulebook done alongside an expansion of the miniatures for the game
What is Darklands?
That's the most compelling part. Darklands creates a world based in North West Europe in the year AD650 - the Dark Ages. It takes all the creatures, myths and legends of that time and puts forth a game and background that says "What if these were real? What if the Norse really did have Trolls as allies? What if the Fomorians were real? One of the best things is the historical context of the game - you can search online for most of the strange names and places and find a corresponding myth or legend. The legends of Ys, Balor the Evil Eye, etc.
But, what do I pledge for? How do I work it out?
Well, it just so happens that I have here the handy dandy Darklands pledge calculator! Go nuts and let your wallet weep! (Now updated with Seza) http://zedmeister.co.uk/darklandspledgecalculator/
To summarise some rule mechanics:
- Individual alternate unit activation, instead of a UGOIGO system
- All warriors, when they are wounded, become weaker
- Will feature weather and time of day
- Different battlefields depending on the lands you raiding - Ice and Snow for the Fomoraic for example
- Army organisation is based around the General and Commanders (who have retinues). Each Commander is given orders before the clash and these are acted upon by the units. These orders can be changed during the battle (via messengers, standards, horns, drums, siren song, and so on) and retinues have some autonomy
- Magic features, but using it comes at a price to the caster - in lifeforce!
- Scale of the models is: 6ft human is 30mm to the eye
- Regarding allies (and this is the simple version): Angelcynn -- Brythoniaid. Brythoniaid -- Albainn. Ysians -- Vras. Norse -- Northumbres. Fomoraic have no allies. Each bloodline (Gorgon - Snakes, Krokod - Crocodiles, Líska - Basilisks and Ýdron - Hydras) in the Khthones are allied to the other. Byzantii - Infernii
Praach is now ours to produce and yours to buy - £115,000 has been passed! Well done everyone, get that Gabrox!
Knocking over Praach means we have a new stretch goal to aim for, of course. After a totally democratic vote yesterday on the comments section of this here project, it appears that most of the vocal people would prefer to go for a Khthones unit next rather than a Brythoniaid one, and not being autocratic at all we have dutifully brought you the Dawn of Khthon - the future of the Khthones in the shape of the Gorgórares or snake-women!
These girls will, of course, be on 60mm bases - being around 50mm tall to the eye - and will be sculpted digitally (a first for us) by the world-renowned Hector Moran, so you're assured of some amazing work right there. Thank you Hector!
The maximum unit size of a Gorgórar unit is 5. The minimum is 1. They will be Uncommon units unless led by a Gorgórix general, at which point they become Common. The Gorgórar unit will feature as part of an encounter host and a skirmish host once they are unlocked.
DON'T WAIT TO PLEDGE - PLEDGE NOW!
It's a bit of a Kickstarter Conundrum, a Catch-22 if you will, but I'd like to say to all of you that are waiting for others to get the total higher to unlock something - don't wait! If everybody did that, wait for others to pledge, we'd never get anywhere.
So please, if you're waiting for something, just pledge for it now - it's far more likely that we'll get to that stretch goal if you do, and you can always decrease your pledge before the end if we don't look like getting to it.
There's 29 hours to go - get pledging! We can get there if we concentrate hard! Get your mates to pledge! Get your mum to pledge! Get your cat to pledge!
Mierce are talking about unlocking a Mountain Troll for the Norse at £125,500. He'll cost £30, but only be unlockable if 100 people get on the Comments thread and post that they want him. Right now, that number is in the 20's. So if you want this bad boy, get on the Comments page and let them know!
Alpharius wrote:Also, if 100 people say "YES" to wanting a Mountain Troll for £30 in the comments section, they'll launch that at £122, 500.

Would I be disappointed, and if I wasn't going to be disappointed, where in the British Isles might such a force containing these troops be from?
Just had it confirmed by Rob in the comments, I will get my wish, apparently for the Albainn, with a slightly more "practically dressed" version for the Brythons, one day.
I's a happy nerd.
Automatically Appended Next Post: A 'very' rough of a Werewulfa!
So I've upper again Gone for Sweet Spot + Skimish Host + Malacant + Bunch of Early Delivery Postage, works out far better value than getting the encounter host instead of the sweet spot.
Now here's something to throw at you... a quick and cheerful stretch goal that we're almost certain to knock over to get that total moving!
Mälmord, a Mountain Troll for the Norse!
Mälmord is a Bergrisi, a Mountain Troll, who (funnily enough) lives in the mountains and crags and hunts unsuspecting beasts both for food and to trade for what little he needs. He's a loner and a ferociously territorial beast, but when the Troll Jarls call he is quick to answer - if only for the change to taste something different to goat-flesh!
Thus, he's actually a monstrous beast in Darklands, and likely to be Uncommon if your host is led by a Troll Jarl or Rare otherwise.
There are some good deals in this campaign, but I think I'm going to have to draw the line where I am now!
Luckily I am 'only' interested in:
1) Angelcynn
2) Fomor
3) Norse
4) Byzantii
though I am sorely tempted by:
5) Brython
I was initially going to go for the Gesith Encounter Host, but I think that would be the only "Wave 3" item I'd have, so I'm probably going to go for the Legionary Encounter Host instead, and pick up the Gesiths down the road a bit.
If I only want things to ship when ready in Wave 1 and Wave 2, all I have to add is £20, right?
Hmm, looking at RRP vs. pledge cost I'll probably limit myself to wave one stuff (feth, I'm buying as much as I can afford and then some anyway...) and pick up the later stuff retail - free shipping with orders over 50 quid (having a pound sign on US intl layout would not go amiss, dammit) will probably make that at worst about as expensive anyway. That's an easy choice to make for someone who can't afford enough of this stuff in either case, though
I'm already in for quite a bit on this one, but I don't think this one will see too much of a spike unless something amazing is revealed/offered.
Something like if you spend £(X) you will receive (Y), with (X) being £300 and (Y) being an Encounter Host or something similar.
On the other hand, the average per backer on this one is already an amazing £233, so...maybe Mierce is good with where this is at and the pace it is moving at!
Bolognesus wrote: Hmm, looking at RRP vs. pledge cost I'll probably limit myself to wave one stuff (feth, I'm buying as much as I can afford and then some anyway...) and pick up the later stuff retail - free shipping with orders over 50 quid (having a pound sign on US intl layout would not go amiss, dammit) will probably make that at worst about as expensive anyway. Yeah, I noticed that as well. 80 retail vs. 70 pledge on the giant means I could get him cheaper at release through The Warstore.
However, there's been more than one situation with the first KS (Aradae Mawr, for example!) where models turned out larger/more complex than expected and RRP's were substantially adjusted. Get it now, and you're safe
I'm in the same boat, I'll be buying more of this stuff at 90% from mierce direct next year, the stuff I want and I'm putting money on now has a decent saving, eg 25% on the mountain troll, or is already done (sweet spot trolls are ready and can be shipped pronto, the other stuff in that pledge adds up to a decent discount).
There's a load more that I want but given the completion dates and my budget I don't feel compelled to buy right now, better to wait until the stuff is available, or even KS3, whichever.
Just when I thought I was safe, and my pledge was securely locked down:
Creator Mierce Miniatures 20 minutes ago
@Jib - working on it right now... will post an update tonight with more unlockable encounter hosts and skirmish hosts, plus a battle host or two, but there won't be any graphics until tomorrow (if there will be at all - might just be putting stretch goals up!!)

Get it sent to my house, I'll make sure you get it.....honest.
The KS could really use an extra incentive to spend a bit more now rather than later. I'm in for a bit, but am waiting until later to actually get some of the models (the Gabrax likely). That entitles me to Wave 1 now, and Gabrax later (depending on how the sculpts are looking). Even if they weren't to offer them later at the same price, I'd be able to get the figures somewhere at that price (only about 15% off).
They should add a bonus of a 10 pound figure of member's choice for free to people who are spending at least 150 (I know there's Danillo Cruz, but that doesn't really do it for me).
I'm glad I bought a few last figures from the KS1 section last weekend, since the prices were so much better.
Almost all of the sculptors have been announced now (Benoit Cosse for the Gabrax) so I have confidence in the sculpt quality based on that and Mierce's history.
As to why buy now? You likely won't find anything again at a much better price and if we don't hit stretches as part of this KS they will likely not get a look in until KS3.
Update, lots of (potential) hosts (I've Re-arranged things to put them in order of availability rather than alphabetical)
Unlockable Encounter Hosts
These encounter hosts, of course, really do depend upon the stretch goals being reached; but if you pledge for them now, it's much more likely that they'll be unlocked. That's the Kickstarter conundrum!
Please note that these, like the other unlockable encounter hosts, may be included within a "THE SWEET SPOT" reward.

GORGÓRAR ENCOUNTER HOST (£80)
◾Theliatiss, Gorgórix

Battle Hosts
Battle hosts are very large armies of warriors for Darklands - around 2,500 gold - and as such are quite expensive to purchase. They're here out of a sense of completeness and also for those who have money to spend!
Some of these battle hosts really do depend upon the stretch goals being reached; but if you pledge for them now, it's much more likely that they'll be unlocked. That's the Kickstarter conundrum!

These are official!
It must be noted, that whilst there's no graphics here, these are most definitely official and will be available both now and during the pledge management process. The only ones that will not be available are those that simply cannot be unlocked due to their components' stretch goals not being met.

Get it sent to my house, I'll make sure you get it.....honest.
Grat idea, thanks
Hang on a minute..............
Well I've talked myself up another £200 or so to just over £800 by including monies for post-KS discount shopping.
Would be nice to get all the regular infantry unlocked. 160k isn't totally unrealistic (not counting the scout Drunes at 170k, as they have 2-3 infantry units already), but it will take some doing.
However, there's been more than one situation with the first KS (Aradae Mawr, for example!) where models turned out larger/more complex than expected and RRP's were substantially adjusted. Get it now, and you're safe
Rob said in the future they will have a price increase for all models and the KS price has already taken that into account.
Only 6 hours left, but I think the Gabrax unit should make it in, right? Only 4K to go for that.
The campaign did really well, and it's smart of them not to give away the farm... too many KS do that, and then have no means of expanding / continuing development afterwards. Hopefully this will continue on strong
Last few hours and a new 'tache, I mean stretch - Gogogogogo!
£150,000 Stretch Goal - Loyal Guard
Broga makes it to the party! £125,000 has now been passed and that means our first Wereofor will definitely be produced. Thus, you can purchase him to your heart's content - or, of course, be lazy and get him for free in the Nobles Set!
With that goal knocked over, it's time for another one at £150,000. We've a few hours to get there so let's get that pledging going for the first of our Brythoniaid infantry, the hearthguard of the Teyrns, the Teulu!
Teulu - pronounced "TAY-lee" - means "family" in Welsh and these warriors represented the close companions of the Teyrns, or kings. These guys both kept the king safe and protected his household, and thus were his "hearthguard" as such warriors are called!
Semi-noble themselves, the Teulu had the pick of the finest weapons and armour available and so were very well-armed and professional warriors. Well-trained and highly motivated, the Teulu are a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield!
Note, the plural of Teulu is Teuluoedd, pronounced "Tay-LEE-oyth" (with the ending "th" as in "the"). Welsh, eh? You've got to love it.
As it states on the graphic, you can purchase Teulu warriors in three distinct forms: a unit of five Teuluoedd with champion, banner bearer, herald and two warriors a unit of ten Teuluoedd with champion, banner bearer, herald and seven warriors five Teulu warriors (a random mixture of the Teulu warriors named Dafydd and Emyr)
To add to the above two options just increase your pledge by the amount indicated to grab a Teulu unit. Thus, if you're after a unit of twenty Teuluoedd, simply add £115 - £55 for 10x Teulu warriors and £60 for two sets of five Teulu warriors!
The maximum unit size of a Teulu unit is 20. The minimum is 5. They will be Rare units unless led by a Teyrn or Uchelwyr general, at which point they become Uncommon.
The Teulu unit feature as part of an encounter host, skirmish host and battle host once they are unlocked.

The traditional way is to send an email survey for you to specify what you want in line with the amount you pledge.
I believe (I didn't back the last one) MM simply translate your pledge to store credit on their site, where you access a special restricted section where all the KS stuff is available to purchase at the lower KS price, perhaps someone else can confirm.

Yep, pretty much this. You will be given access to the hidden Kickstarter section. Your pledged amount is added to your account and then it works like a pledge manager, except you add it within a proper store. You will also see order status as well as monitor other progress (such as package splitting/combinations) and receive dispatch notes, etc.
It'll probably be broken into pledge levels as well, so if you are buying an encounter host, there will be purchase options for Byzantii Encounter Host, Norse Encounter Host, etc. There will also be a separate one for Nobles, if anyone wants to join me there. If you buy one of every model this kickstarter has funded, as it sits right now, you'll end up with 71 models. That's not too shabby at all!
I've just noticed BoW are running something on the KS, the first time I've seen anything from them covering Mierce, which isn't a surprise, considering the politics that would have been involved.
I guess that's something positive to come out of GWs actions!
I can only pledge so much right now, but will there be opportunities to purchase more later on down the road at these KS2 prices, much like how it was handled with KS1?
Mierce Miniatures wrote: @Baragash - they're going to be done dude, stick your pledge on! You'll need to pledge at least £10 to get access to them before very late 2014...
Don't worry I'm heavily in, it's just which configuration of models to get that equals characters + infantry + monstrous infantry + monsters, without the Gabrax or Teulu I'd just decided on Norse as my next preference (with a "yay Blood-maw") and then bam, choices, choices. Now excuse me I have to take my firstworldproblem off into the corner
Stretch goals are falling thick and fast, Gabrax now unlocked!
£155,000 Stretch Goal - Hedroc of Carn Maen on Hound-Horse
We're just under £130,000 so that's the Gabrax in the locker; we're close enough to £130,000 to ensure that goal will be met in the next three and a half hours. Thus, the goat-men are funded! Fantastic work everyone!
So, what's at the next stretch goal, £155,000, I hear you all cry? Well, this...
Our friend from Darklands: a World of War, Hedroc of Carn Maen, is mounted upon the first Hound-Horse - a very odd meld of horse and mutt, funnily enough - grown by the insane Harvest-Drunes with aid from the Flesh-Drunes.
The actual miniature will be rather large - sitting on a 100mm base, 60mm tall to Hedroc's eyes, it will make a great centrepiece for your Ysian host!
Here's a cheap and cheerful stretch goal to get us a bit further... a Sávrar host banner bearer, Eikovra the Ikon Warrior, set at £137,500 - which is not far away!
Eikovra is a commander and will stand on a 30mm base. He'll be around 30mm tall to the eye.
As it states above, Eikovra is FREE to any backer that has pledged for the "DARKLANDS, UHTRED & NOBLES" or "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT" rewards and £10 if you've chosen any other reward!

So, the Gabrax are now unlocked. Making your choices harder?
The descendant pledge question. What is the balance for minis with the pledge? I.e. how much of the 2000 goes into immortalizing you in Darklands by creating your mini?
Creator Mierce Miniatures 1 minute ago
@Sam Auguare - really depends on the sculptor; some (JAG for example) charges €1,500 per foot miniature.
Shows you that, no surprise here, if you want a quality sculpt, you have to pay for a quality sculpt!
Alpharius wrote:I can only pledge so much right now, but will there be opportunities to purchase more later on down the road at these KS2 prices, much like how it was handled with KS1?
Mierce Miniatures wrote:Absolutely Alpharius - but you've got to pledge at least £10 to get access.
This is fantastic news! I am seriously interested in the Gorgorar, but at this exact moment I really can't swing that on top of the base pledge.
If your sitting on the wall, I could not recommend this KS and Mierce as a company enough. I heavily backed the first KS and will probably drop at least another £1000 on this over the next few months.
The miniatures are simply stunning, no other words to describe them, but it is the communication on the KS1 still 8 months after it finished that sets them apart. My biggest Bugbear with Kickstarters is that once they have your money the communication and updates end...not on the last Kickstarter and I am sure not on this one as well. A great experience from start to finish!

Mierce did run a very successful and professional kickstarter since the Maelstrom mess, and fulfilled almost entirely on time. That goes a long way to building confidence.

Yes, but considering the relationships between Mierce/Maelstrom, BoW and Wayland, I don't think one has to look too hard to see reasons that Mierce might have "slipped under the radar"
I've settled for the rulebook and a couple of the additional character miniatures. I'd really like to go for more, but I'm not sure if I'll have the money, and I'm still waiting on Relic Knights, so don't want another massive order of miniatures coming down the pipeline.
We learned a lot from the last Kickstarter - the chief lesson being, we gave it away too cheaply.
I was guessing it was something like that!
and honestly they were really really nice about extending the pledge manager pricing even when new product was sent to retail. They even held it open for me for one order I wanted to make but was waiting for an ebay paypal sale to clear.
JWBS wrote: The detail is amazing, the aesthetic is very pleasing and the quality on everything so far (got a Tarvax starter in KS1 and a few Bane Lords prior) is perfect. Literally - no flaws! Complete package on par with or better than Illyad, McVey, FW, Rackham, Enigma, etc etc
No doubt. I have a shelf of Mierce in my display cabinet and honestly they put every single other manufacturer to shame. There's pretty much no comparisons.
I exceeded my KS 1 pledge, but not the total I ended up expending on the first Kickstarter. Hopefully going Nobles will spare me the indignity I suffered last time when I ordered them all anyway.
i put in as much as i could right now- just a sweet spot pledge- and that was pushing it. i will keep adding stuff post KS though, pretty much ever paycheck (as I did with KS1)
cincy if you want to sell that terrain cheap lemme know! (next payday, hah) i'm setting up a new gaming table and could use a few good pieces.
I buy all my terrain complete from eBay these days. I have a bad ass waterfall and full river, numerous buildings, mountains, forests, hills etc.. Some of it was expensive most very reasonable. It is always an option.

if it's that much I wouldn't mind taking a day trip. It's about a 7 hour drive from me to Ohio and 1000 miles there and back would be cheaper driving than shipping more than a couple large boxes!

I'll catalog it tonight. I know i've got some of the big ass pieces like the Mages Watchtower or whatever the hell it is and the Fortress of Retribution.
Well, that ended nicely. But KS1 WIPs are still coming!
Gamla Bror, Jowan and Pétroyos...
We have updates for three more miniatures this week, including the first images of the simply amazing Pétroyos by Roberto Chaudon!
Gamla Bror, finished!
First up though we have the finished images of Gamla Bror. We think you'll agree with us that he looks absolutely stunning - Allan Carrasco has really pulled him off!
Gamla is winging his warty way to us as I write, and so I suspect he will be making it into the first packages in November (you must give us time to mould and cast him of course).
Jowan and a Hound!
Stéphane Simon's cracking on with Jowan and the Drune-Hounds (sounds like a cool name for a band). Jowan himself is almost finished, with just the whip hand and the whip to do, and the first Drune-Hound is taking shape!
Jowan should be complete by the end of October we think.
Pétroyos, Lískarchon
The rather prolific Roberto Chaudon is really going for it right now. With Vaak just finished, Pétroyos is already taking shape, as you can see!
These are of course early WIPs but expect plenty more over the next few weeks. Pétroyos is going to be fantastic!
Werwulfas Concept Art
We've finally nailed down an artist to get the concept art done for the Angelcynn Werwulfas - the awesome Danny Cruz! This should be complete over the next week or so, but for now, check out these roughs...
Wulfric of Tamtun, Great Werwulf (champion)Wulfric of Tamtun, Great Werwulf (champion)
Benoît Cosse, of course, will be sculpting the Werwulfas, although he's currently working on Aalvór. We do hope to have the Werwulfas before Christmas, but they will probably not be complete until January - although again, that's what the suggested delivery date was way back when! So we're about there, really.
Kickstarter I Progress
We're down to the last quarter of the Angelcynn infantry starter sets. It has to be said, looking at all of the starter sets, the Angelcynn have proved to be the most popular, beating the Tarvax and Ax-Drunes by a good margin. This has been helped by a huge number of post-Kickstarter sales, so word spread we think of how good these guys are!
Anyway, we're still looking at late October before they're all sent out, possibly earlier.
It will be definitely be November at the earliest before the Gorgonares starters begin to ship, simply because we don't yet have Ssibyros yet of course, but this may be a blessing in disguise as we have Vókkinak now and Pétroyos may well be finished soon - which is all of the Khthones miniatures from this Kickstarter of course!
Wow! What a fantastic Kickstarter project we've just taken part in!
Darklands: First Edition has, of course, proved to be a rousing success, ending on £138,533 with 566 backers, and we'd like to thank each and every one of you for contributing to that success. Without your pledge Darklands: First Edition and its associated miniatures would not be produced!
Now, of course, we must explain how you tell us what you would like for the money you have pledged. This is actually quite simple, and we've broken it down here into a few steps to keep things nice and easy.
1: Complete the survey
The first thing you should do is to complete our survey questionnaire that was sent yesterday by Kickstarter. This is important! All we require from you at this stage is your full name, full address and e-mail address.
Once we receive the results of that survey, we will register you on our website at www.mierce-miniatures.com, if you are not registered already of course; for you manage your pledge on our webstore just as if you were shopping online.
Even if you are already registered, please take the time to fill in the survey, it helps us check that we have your information correct.
2: Please be patient until Monday!
Once you have filled in the survey and Kickstarter have taken your money, we will give you the full details of how to manage your pledge on our webstore in an update on Monday night. This gives us time to compile backer information and register you on our website.
Here is a brief overview of what will happen. Simply put, we give you store credit called Moneyback that is equal to the amount you have pledged to the project here, and then give you access to a special "Darklands: First Edition Category" on our webstore which lists all of the rewards and miniatures you have pledged for on this project, as well as many others from our existing range of miniatures.
3: Manage your pledge
Once the majority of backer surveys have been completed, we will post an update on Monday night with all the details you need to manage your pledge on our webstore, and this gives you three days to complete the survey and sort your payment out if necessary, as well as giving us a few days to get things into line on our website.
If you have any questions during this time, please ask them on the comments section as backers of our first Kickstarter know generally what will happen if we are not around. You can of course message us or e-mail us, but it may take time to answer those questions (especially over a weekend as we all have families to look after).
The key thing here is, please don't panic - managing your pledge is very easy and all will become clear in our "Managing your Pledge" update on Monday.
We must state here and now, that if Kickstarter have not been successful in taking the money for your pledge from your registered card, then we cannot give you Moneyback in our webstore. Thus, it is VERY important that you correct any issues with your card with Kickstarter - and you only get a week to do so, so please do it as quickly as you can!
4: Frequently Asked Questions
Here's a little FAQ to ensure some of the more common questions need not be asked so often.
Q: Can I purchase more on your website than I pledged for?
A: Of course. You simply use all the Moneyback you have and use your debit or credit card to purchase more miniatures.
Q: I read somewhere that you'll be giving 20% off your existing line. Is this true?
A: Yes. In the special "Darklands: First Edition" category, we will list all of our existing miniatures (BaneLegions, released miniatures and unreleased miniatures from the first Kickstarter) which you can purchase at 20% off the UK recommended retail price for a short period - until November the 30th.
Malacant will also only be available until November the 30th to purchase at the Darklands: First Edition price, as he will be released to the general public in January 2014. So we urge you to purchase him soon if you want him!
Q: How long do I get to purchase more Darklands: First Edition stuff?
A: You have until items are released to the general public or begin to ship to backers to purchase more Darklands: First Edition stuff. Thus, you have until June 2014 for most things from this project, and August and October for those that ship later!
Q: How will shipping work?
A: This will be explained in great detail in Monday's update, but broadly, each item from this Kickstarter has been given a "Shipment Wave", and each separate Shipment Wave in addition to the first will cost additional funds. You can wait for all of your purchases to be produced before we ship them, of course; but if you don't wish to do that, we must ask you for the shipping costs for each shipment.
Additional shipments of purchases will cost a flat rate of £3 (UK), £7 (EU), £10 (ROW) and these Shipment Waves are purchased on our webstore in the Darklands: First Edition category as items.
It is VERY important that you purchase these Shipment Waves to cover the amount of shipments you require. If you do not, your order will sit in limbo for all time!
Note, if you are in the UK, the first shipment is free. If you are not in the UK, the first shipment is £10.
Q: Can I combine shipping with Darklands: a World of War stuff?
A: Yes, we will combine packages where we can, but I'm afraid this does not mean you can avoid paying for shipping for items from this Kickstarter. We will combine some packages, but this does not reduce the extra weight in items from this project or existing items, nor reduce the amount of packing time and packaging material!
Q: What can I do if my payment has bounced?
A: Speak to your bank and find out what has happened, and correct the issue. Kickstarter will e-mail you and try to take your payment on a daily basis. However, they will only do this for a week - so please sort it out as soon as you can!
If all else fails, you could simply login to our website when the time comes and purchase what you would like from the items available, but we would politely ask you to spend as much as you have backed - that ensures that stretch goals can be fulfilled.
Q: Will unfulfilled stretch goals be fulfilled in the pledge management period?
A: No, I'm afraid not. We wish to keep these Kickstarter projects separate from that process, for the simple reason that it encourages people to pledge and join in the fun! Running and backing a Kickstarter project is fantastic socially, and we want everybody to feel a part of that.
There's always the next Kickstarter for those unfulfilled stretch goals!
Q: What's orange and invisible?
A: No oranges.
That should be all you need until Monday!
Once again:
Thank you very much for backing Darklands: First Edition!
I hope I can add him to my order with the current kickstarter! Even better maybe he'll be in stores before the new kickstarter ships!
Bummed he isn't a little larger. Was hoping he'd be around 80 or 90mm. Oh well. Absolutely love multi- limped lizards.
At least the reptiles aren't all walking around with their junk flapping around like the big smelly dudes from other factions.
No, as lizards don't have external genitalia, it wouldn't make sense. Whatever your opinion on their inclusion, any of the more sexualised detailing on any of the minis does at least have a reason to be there (with the possible exception of Krull I suppose, but then we don't know how demons reproduce in the fluff, so that could still be justified.)
having gotten used to painting the goods on nearly every Mierce fig I own I was half-expecting Talos to have some bronze junk and was rather surprised when he didn't.

Ha!
I just LOL and there's NO possible way I can explain why...

Rob stated on the KS2 comments:
"I will be locking a few more miniatures before the update, and that will include Angrislaug and Ygandr among others, mainly because their RRPs are much higher than expected. So if you want any, grab them now."
Looks like they'll be going from £40 with KS1 to £80 retail as they both had unexpected casting costs.
Thanks to Mierce for a great campaign, it's really nice to be able to read through all the positive feedback you've received for KS1.
Any chance you could get in touch with CMON and show those retards how it's done?
I sold some eBay items to fund my Kickstarter purchases, but have yet to draw the funds into my bank account. Surprisingly, after KS helped themselves, I'm not looking as badly off as I expected, to the point where I can probably make it to next payday without using the eBay funds.
Now, I'm going Fomoraic initially, and was going to hold these funds to expand on them, but, despite having no need for Angrislaug, I am a sucker for a dragon, may well jump ship or add factions at a later date, and it is cast of pure awesome.
So, if I can urge you to suppress your shiny reflex and try and be realistic, and bear in my mind I have very limited hobby funds at the moment, what would you do in my position?
I'm pretty sure I'm ditching everything except Infinity and Confrontation. Dust, Warmachine, remaining 40k and WHFB are going out the door for Darklands money.

I'm hugely conflicted about my wargaming just now. I get one game of "something" in a week at our local club, so it is pointless playing too many systems else I just won't play some games for months.
As much as it is flawed, I'm not going to leave 40K behind, but my current two armies will remain my only two unless there is a huge sea change with the company and the game (most models are already owned for both, but I only use painted models and I have plenty of work still to do)
I really enjoy X Wing, and because it is pre painted, it fits really well alongside other more demanding systems.
I have played and enjoy Infinity, and own some elements of an Aleph force, but it is looking likely for the chop for the time being, as I'm rethinking my faction choice, and I suspect that work on Darklands is likely to bump working in Infinity even further down the paint queue.
I'd really like to try DZC too, and have the rulebook, but no minis as yet.
I have several friends who keep trying to lure me into Warmachine too, but the aesthetic isn't my thing.
Wow, writing this post hasn't really helped clarify where to focus, but it has made me realise what an amazing time this is for the hobby!
I was thinking of going the Knights sectorial for Pan-O, but like I said, I think that's a ways in the future just now, and I'm better off liquidating the models I have and returning to it when I'm ready (keeping the books though)
I'm going all in on Darklands with a side of Infinity as I accept the reality of what the hobby is for me now.
Xwing is the game of choice for us at the moment, and even that gets played once a month at best.
Darklands and Infinty cover my fantasy and scifi bases, and give me incredible models and wildly diverse terrain options to get my hobby on with. I can guarantee forcing some of the guys to play at least once and if that's it, then so be it.
It's great, but not really fond of the "stand on stone" pose. But I guess that Darklands is quite a rocky place, so it does make sense in a way on the other hand. :p
If you type in the (somewhat complicated) name of the model you are looking for you can pre-order at KS1 prices, just like Alph said. I placed an order for some and saved a huge 35%!! It also qualified for free shipping. I guess if you want some of these this weekend is the time to get them.
I would imagine you'll have a few hours grace, as given the hours Rob has put in through the KS, I would expect him to have the weekend off, and will probably take a few hours to make the changes to the site in Monday morning, but why risk it if you want it?
Guys,
You're only able to see the Kickstarter I items if you have access to them; but after the first Kickstarter, as a thank you, I gave everybody who was registered on our website access. You would have been registered already if we'd send any orders to you of course.
Thus, there will be some of you who think you don't have access - but actually do but had no idea.
Additionally, there was an error in the search function - enabling you to see the Kickstarter I items and buy them even if you didn't have access - but that is now fixed.
I'll honour all the purchases today of course, regardless of where they've come from! But nobody outside the first registrations and Kickstarter I can see them any longer.
They're onto us . I guess it's a good thing to have customers clamoring to buy, though!
Can't wait to see the Blood Maw in the flesh.... er, resin.
Edit: GiraffeX, I bet azrael13 would add something onto his pledge for you. He offered to do it for Alpharius on the last page, and he's in the UK:
azreal13 wrote: Worst case scenario, Alph, I can order him for you, would need to ship over, not sure how efficient that is vs getting it ordered direct to the US.

Well, bang goes my theory of him taking a few days off!
Well I really appreciate it MM. I only backed ks2 but you still let me get in on the cheap Angrislaug, whether it was a mistake or not.
If it makes you feel better, im going to have to end up building a Brythoniaid host because of it. Wasn't planning on it, but I suppose I'd better now.
I didn't manage to up my pledge as I wanted to as I decided proposing to my partner was more important. I tried to wrangle a way to use darklands miniatures to justify it, but I'm not sure how well Angelcynn ceremonial ring bearers presided over by a lovely monster would have gone down.
I think I'll be picking up an encounter host every other month if I can, especially if we get more sexy Brythoniad humans down the line.
I know! I tried to argue that the money should go on getting Mierce to make a unique married couple for a faction of my partners choice, plus armies obviously. Alas that was veto'd, though I'm reliably told you only get one. Roll on Darklands 3!
anyway, Mierce CS is really top notch; I've been a disproportionately annoying special snowflake over the past while and they're still not sick of me, apparently. Really happy with them
I didn't get home til late last night after an entire gakky weekend of driving 10+ hours round trip for a wedding for people I barely know and staying in an overpriced gakky hotel with no laptop, so then when I woke up this morning I went to order Angrislaug and poof, he had been removed 4 hours earlier :(

You have my sympathies.....but you can't have my dragon.
It might be cold comfort, but at least he'll be back at 20% off in the KS2 manager.

20% off of 80gbp rrp is 64gbp, not the 40gbp ks1 price. i can't justify $100 on a single figure... i could at $60. ah well.

If there's any model you should justify at $100 (which to me is still reasonable for something that size and detail) it's Angrislaug.
Alpharius wrote: I still amazed at the level of excitement and anticipation I have for this Kickstarter/Miniature Range/Game.
It really has been a long time since anything has piqued my interest to this degree.
Which, of course, means I'm in serious withdrawal right now for new/updates/previews/etc. !
I agree with you about piquing my interest. I backed the first one with trepidation (due to Maelstrom) but I already owned the Talos, Kraan, and Cormoragg and had fallen in love with the detail and I definitely wanted to get more. So when I started getting my first KS1 models... it really invigorated my love of painting fine miniatures. Personally, I had started falling away from playing miniatures wargames over the last several years (WHFB was my big love, and I didn't like 8th). So when KoW hardback was released last year my group all started playing it, and that game fit perfectly in my love of mass battles games. Since then I've painted 4 armies, tabletop "looks good from 3-feet" standard... but I've always loved beautiful centerpiece models, so I've found ways to incorporate my Mierce models as the centerpieces for them (Cormoragg for my Goblin giant, and the Norse trolls in there too, the Wyvern for my Orc Krudger on Winged Slasher for my Orcs, Talos for my fantasy Greek army, etc) and they are just amazing to paint. what's happened is that I love painting Mierce models so much I've come up with excuses to build armies around them! I'm going to pound out a Dwarf army next and then in November my Twilight Kin army which is all Gamezone and Mierce Khthones Gorgonares figures. Additionally, I'm almost ready to start painting what I hope to be my best painted army ever, composed of what I believe are some of the best miniatures ever: several units of Red Box Games Helsvakt and Gynnade Krigare and Horsemen, plus regiments of Mierce Tarvax and Sronax, GW Beastmen, and tons of the Fomoraic big baddies (Galagaak, Shaaroc, Kraan on bear, Chaagmuth on boar, Uuthull, etc). I thank Mantic for a fun ruleset for me to play, and I really love Mierce for making me fall in love with painting miniatures all over again!
Sorry, that was a little long winded, but I can't express enough how wonderful it is to receive a box of Mierce figs, marvel at the detail, assemble them, stare at them as my imagination runs wild, and start painting them... they're so great that they paint themselves! I've lost track of time while painting their figures. And then as army centerpieces, they make even a generic army with a quick paint job look amazing.
The Mierce figures I currently own are old enough to have square bases not the standard 30mm round ones
Unfortunately I got burned by the Maelstrom collapse so I had to stay on the sidelines for the first KS, but they demonstrated they got it together so I was happy to shovel them a few buckets of cash on this one.
What does everyone use to fill in the slight but seemingly inevitable gaps on these models?
Is there one putty that reigns supreme over all others?
And it can't be...Liquid Greenstuff, can it?!?
I use greenstuff for the hairy guys (so's I can sculpt new hair in there). I also do the "drill to pin, green stuff on one side, superglue on the other, press and hold firmly for dozen or so seconds, bonded forever" thing for some of the heavier bits (like a hand holding a big weapon)

I'm mostly with judgedoug on this, if the join covers a texture area, ordinary GS is fine, if I encounter small hairlines in smooth surfaces (like flesh) or bubbles or other surface imperfections, Vallejo plastic putty is a really useful tool.
I'm not totally familiar with squadron green, but after a quick google, I'd say no. The plastic putty is a mix of plastic powder, titanium white pigment and acrylic medium, so it comes in a traditional Vallejo bottle and handles very much like a slightly thick acrylic paint, which is what makes it so good for filling small seams, as you can put it on with a brush, and simply smooth the excess away with your finger to some appropriate tool.

Ditto - I've got Erec One-Arm (Dwarf Standard bearer) and Aanchuth (Gabrax Warlock) kicking around here that I should really get around to painting at some point.
Yeah, MM said that they were getting the database stuff sorted today with a view to getting things live this evening. Should be sorted soonish I'd expect.
Almost 100% related to getting the KS2 stuff up and running...
I'm sure it is, it just struck me as odd as it isn't KS related stuff, its items that are on general sale (and have been for a while) which means that plebs, sorry, I mean non-KS backers, aren't able to order them either.
Yup, running this sort of adaptations (and the shenanigans we had yesterday with sql queries showing as plaintext here and there) on a live production environment isn't exactly best practices, from what I hear. Feh, they probably know what they're doing though, I guess
I did see Rob admit in the KS that he is aware that the site isn't great, but doesn't have the time or expertise to do much about it.
I actually dislike the layout, presentation and ergonomics of the thing so much, I'd volunteer to redesign it, but my skills on the Internet are pretty much limited to posting gak on it, so don't really have the know how.

I agree that the site definitely needs a redesign - and on top of that, it runs painfully slow for me too...
Yeah, not that you can see pics of them in half the slots on the site! Concept art where it exists in place of "no image available" would improve the whole thing exponentially, but I do appreciate the time involved is better spent in making awesome models and rules for us to play with them.
I guess, much like a woman, if the end product is attractive enough, it is worth going to a bit of effort!
Guys,
I've been messing with the site all day basically, which is why there's been some errors. I don't have enough time to set up a test server (i.e., local, not live) - which is why you see PHP or SQL debugging when I make major changes to the website - and also why access was slightly crazy today. That's all sorted now though.
As for the website itself, it works and that's about it. It's all about time, to be honest. I wish there were 48 hours in a day!
Regardless, the website's all back up now and should work fine for you all, next on the list is to give KS2 backers access, which will take a couple of hours.
I am an IT Director, so if Mierce ever wants some redesign I could work for credit
The first step is to create indices on all the fields that are queried on. That will usually be the biggest speed increase. Even a single field that is queried against without an index can slow down a query exponentially. If indices do exist, rebuilding them helps.
But it fits perfectly in the Darklands theme! When I read what judgedoug writes, it makes me want to grab an axe and smack him over the head with it, like your average caveman. That's totally Darklandish!

I largely understood this. It makes me feel strange and afraid.
Alpharius wrote: That kind of language makes even less sense than most Darklands monster names!
nah, it's simple! an index on a table field is just like an index in a book. so when you tell the database to find the records in a table that match a certain field condition, instead of the database engine looking through every record and taking forever, it looks in the index first and sees exactly where it needs to go!

And lo, did an unholy mist descend upon the land, and the air was filled with the terrible screeching of Indexes and the abominable rumbling of the Database Engine. Only then did Llewellyn Ap BunsenByrner look out on to his lands and see that they were lost forever, for the field conditions were treacherous indeed. Stalwart in the face of insurmountable odds he girded himself for war, assembled his loyal Morrysdan Seers and prepared to make the Dynness pay in blood for their error.

Manage Your Pledge!

The Mierce Miniatures website is ready for you to manage your pledge - as long as you have completed the Survey and Kickstarter have collected your money, of course!
How to Manage your Pledge
If you have completed the survey and have had your pledge collected by Kickstarter, we have now registered you on our website (if you were not registered already), applied Moneyback to your account of an equal amount to your pledge and given you access to the special "Darklands: First Edition" categories based on the reward you have selected.
These categories are the meat of managing your pledge, for you simply log in and choose what you would like just as if you were online shopping. You use the Moneyback that is now on your account to purchase those items, of course, and you can even purchase extra items if you wish - although you will have to pay for those with your debit or credit card, of course!
If you have not completed your survey, or if your payment has still not been collected, I'm afraid we cannot give you access to the pledge management system so it is in your interest to sort them out as soon as possible. Please e-mail us at kickstarter@mierce-miniatures.com to tell us you have done so!
Pledge Management Sequence
1) Log In
The first thing you must do, of course, is log in to our website.
Your username is the e-mail address you use with this Kickstarter project.
Your password is "KICKSTARTER". We do urge you to change your password as soon as you can once you have logged in!
Once you've logged in to our website you'll be able to manage your pledge - in other words, tell us exactly what you require for the money you have pledged. However, before you start this process, there's a few things we need to explain first.
Please read the following very carefully!
2) Change your Password
The second thing you must do is to CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!
3) Find the Kickstarter Categories
Once you have successfully logged in, you will see a square icon on the left hand side - underneath the Templar's Forge logo - which shows a little graphic and the words "Manage your Pledge here!" in yellow. Simply click on that icon and you will be taken to our Kickstarter page, which lists the two categories pertaining to you as a backer of this Kickstarter project:
The first category - "Darklands: First Edition" - lists all of the items from this Kickstarter project, neatly arranged by kindred. The items within this category will be open to you until they are shipped, so in most cases you have until June 2014 to choose the items you would like!
The second category - "Darklands: First Edition Existing Miniatures" - lists all of our existing miniatures (including those from the Darklands: a World of War Kickstarter project and the BaneLegions range) at 20% off their recommended retail price. This discount is a "thank you" to all of our backers, but these existing miniatures at this price will ONLY be available to you until midnight (GMT) of November the 30th, 2013 - so we suggest you purchase those as quickly as possible!
4) Choose the items you want!
Next, just choose the items you want from our Kickstarter project by adding them to your basket as if you were shopping normally.
5) Add more stuff!
If you wish to add more miniatures to your basket from the Kickstarter campaign, you can do so now.
6) Give us your Special Instructions for THE SWEET SPOT
During the checkout process - on the "Postage" page - you can add any special instructions you require for your Kickstarter pledge or maybe just tell us how great we are! It's up to you.
Certainly, if you have purchased a "THE SWEET SPOT" reward, you MUST tell us which mounted General you want and which Encounter Host you want. Without listing over a hundred different Encounter Hosts with every combination of general and encounter host known to mankind, this is the easiest method to tell us which you require.
7) Payment!
Continue through the checkout process until you get to the "Payment" page, where you will see a myriad of boxes to input your payment details. If you are only using your Moneyback - i.e., the "Order Total" amount is £0.00 - then please select "Moneyback" as your payment type, without filling in any other details. If you are pledging for more items than the Moneyback you have in your account, simply input your card details as normal; you will be charged the "Order Total" amount.
8) That's it!
You've successfully sorted out your pledge. You'll be able to see the order on your "My Orders" page at some point over the next few days.
Remember, you can add more orders right up to when the items from this Kickstarter are shipped!
Shipping Costs
Each item from this Kickstarter project has been given a "Shipment Wave", and each separate Shipment Wave in addition to the first will cost additional funds.
Additional shipments of purchases will cost a flat rate of £3 (UK), £7 (EU), £10 (ROW) and these Shipment Waves are purchased on our webstore in the Darklands: First Edition category as items.
It is VERY important that you purchase these Shipment Waves to cover the amount of shipments you require, even the Wave 0 Shipment Wave (which is free to UK residents). If you do not, your order will sit in limbo for all time!
So, you effectively have two choices:
1 - Pay Once for Shipping and Wait: Simply purchase the "Wave 0 Shipping Cost" (even if you are in the UK and it costs £0.00) and wait for everything you have purchased to be produced before we ship them.
2 - Pay More to Get Sooner: Purchase as many "Wave Shipping Cost" items as you need, to get your items when they are ready.
What's in the Shipment Waves?
So here's a rundown of what is shipping when:
Shipment Wave 0: before 2014/early 2014, depending on how many orders there are. This shipment wave will only happen if you pay extra to ship miniatures that are already available from our back catalogue when you manage your pledge. Malacant would also be included with this shipment if you pay extra to have him shipped early.
Shipment Wave 1: June 2014. This shipment wave will include the rulebook, concept art book, Uhtred, Finnan, Danilo Cruz, all of the Noble miniatures, Malacant, Mag ap Mag, Mälmord, Eikovra and Dawn of Khthon.
Shipment Wave 2: August 2014. Cnebba, Holumenn unit, Djiuzu, Legionary Contubernium, Praach, Broga, Gabrax unit and Seza.
Shipment Wave 3: October 2014. Gesíthas unit.
Website Shipping Costs
There are no restrictions on ordering more than once from the Kickstarter category, but do please note that if you order less than £30 in the UK and less than £80 outside the UK you will be charged postage. There is no real way we can alter this without a large amount of re-coding, so please bear this in mind - it may be worthwhile to make one order with your Moneyback.
If you have pledged for less than the above amounts the website will charge you for shipping if you do not increase the money you have spent. Again, without a large amount of re-coding, this is simply unavoidable; but if you've paid for Wave Shipping (see below) we'll simply refund you if you e-mail us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Moneyback?
A: Moneyback is a way of "giving" money to customers on our webstore. A normal order earns Moneyback at 1% of the total order rate (as long as you have spent money and not Moneyback), thus giving customers a reason to return and use our website! For Kickstarter purposes, it is an easy way of "giving" the amount you've pledge to your account so that you can choose the items you've pledged for without spending any money. You can also do that, of course, in the same order! Using Moneyback is explained later in this update.
Q: How much Moneyback have you given me?
Based on what Kickstarter tell us, we have added Moneyback equivalent to the amount you have pledged to your Mierce Miniatures account. Obviously, we have only given you Moneyback if Kickstarter have collected your payment.
Q: How do I Use Moneyback?
A: It couldn't be simpler to use your Moneyback. The first page of the basket will show the Moneyback you have available, and all you have to do is type in the amount you wish to use and check the box next to it. If you don't want to use any Moneyback with an order, simply uncheck the box next to the Moneyback line and it will be removed from your basket.
Q: Can I purchase more than my Moneyback allows?
A: Obviously, if you wish to spend more than you have pledged for already then you will have to pay for them! Simply max out your Moneyback on your order and add whatever else you want to your basket. You will, of course, have to pay the difference via credit or debit card. Note that we do not, and will never, accept PayPal as a payment method. Remember, too, that if you are buying more then you will earn Moneyback (1%) for everything over and above the Moneyback you've used. So even by pledging more you'll save a bit more for any future orders!
Q: I've spent more than £150 but not chosen "THE SWEET SPOT" reward. How do I get Danilo Cruz?
A: We'll simply add Danilo Cruz to your order when the time comes to ship it. Please note, you will ONLY get Danilo Cruz for free if you have pledged £150 or more on this Kickstarter project - you don't get him for free if you are adding more in during the pledge management process. That is, unless you purchase "THE SWEET SPOT" reward, of course.
Q: Will you add images to each item in the Kickstarter Categories?
A: Yes, absolutely - but please note, this will take time and will not occur overnight. We do expect to have them all there before the end of October, however.
Q: Can I purchase the "Nobles Set", or one of the other rewards, after the project?
A: Yes, of course - the rewards available to you are listed within the "Darklands: First Edition Essentials" sub-category, at the top.
Thus, even after the project has ended, you can of course purchase some of the rewards from it as items!
Any Further Questions
If you have any further questions about how to manage your pledge, or indeed anything about Darklands or Mierce Miniatures, simply message us here or e-mail us at kickstarter@mierce-miniatures.com.
Enjoy, and once again, thank you so much for backing our Kickstarter project!
Well...I just spent almost my entire initial pledge on existing product in order to retroactively justify pledging for Nobles which I now have to add more money to get back to...
Pretty much buying everything...which is a little ridiculous, but hey ho. Still avoiding the sculpts that don't do anything for me at all, and I'll have to decide if I want to pick up the Terror and the Hydra (was tapped out from pledging and couldn't grab him for 40) before the end of November.
I need time to agonise, so not too bothered I can't log on.
A few of my completed models have been aired at my club this week, and I have to say the response from other guys has been immediate and very positive. (Helped by the fact I've managed to achieve a personal best on the paint jobs)
Even our historical group, who traditionally keep to themselves and seldom show interest in our silly fantasy and sci fi games, came over, and when I explained that the fluff at least made a passing nod to historical reality, a couple of them seemed really genuinely interested.
I know Rob has alluded to suffering a little bit with lack of coverage, but believe me, when these models are out in front of hobbyists, that's all you need to fire people up. Especially if one of those models is a fully painted Krull!
I have a question about shipping. Wave 0 is no cost - does this mean that everything that can be shipped in December will be shipped then, for free, and everything else will be shipped in wave 3, for free, unless I buy wave 1 & 2 as well?
I have ordered Norse sweet spot + mountain troll. I'd like my 5 monstrous infantry trolls asap (I suppose December would be ok too), not entirely fussed about the rest, August 2014 or June 14 makes no difference. So what should I order for shipping to get my troll infantry sent quickly?
From what I understand, I just buy sweet spot (£150, specify items), Mountain troll (£30), & wave 0 shipping (£0), and I'll get my troll infantry soon and the rest in about 8-12 months, for £180, is this correct? Any help greatly appreciated, especially official MM answer.
edit - reading some more, it seems that I'll have to add Wave 1 (£3) as well as wave 0, is this what I should be going for to get my troll infantry asap?
edit 2 - ok I just ordered sweet spot + mountain troll + wave 0 + wave 1, and added "Norse Troll Encounter Host + Mananaan on foot & on horse" into delivery instructions, fingers crossed this was right!
Confession time...I pulled out.
Partly this is because of seriously tight finances, but also because I can now simply wait until the minis are completed and listed for sale on the Mierce site, sometime way off in the distant future.
I also have had my painting severely curtailed by the whole "leave your wife of twenty years, move to rental property for 6 month, then move in with new girlfriend" thing, which has left me with a large backlog of unpainted minis from KS1.
And no where to paint.
I also avoid the "torku syndrome" of a mini that didn't quite turn out as well as you might have hoped...
Yes, I miss the discounted KS price...but taking "now dollars" as worth more then "future dollars" it won't be that big of an impact.
Creator Mierce Miniatures - Faction Colors
Albainn (Fortriu) - deep blue
Angelcynn (Beornica) - red and yellow
Angelcynn (Mierce) - dark red
Atalantes (Ilioses) - orange or yellow; the sun
Brythoniaid (Teyrnas Gwynedd) - red
Byzantii (Legio II Var) - red and gold
Érainn (Uí Néill) - red (for the red hand of Ulster)
Fomoraic (Baalor) - ice blue; hairy warriors are paler the higher in rank they are; black and steel armour
Infernii (Dis) - gold and red
Norse (Skilfing) - green
Khthones (Gorgones) - purple and gold
Khthones (Krokodes) - dark green
Khthones (Hydres) - light purple
Khthones (Lískes) - brown/red (the lovely colour on Mazikílías)
Ysians (Ker-Ys) - red and black (black for Kernow, red for Ys)
Vras (Three-Claw) - mustard green
But as always, things can change. That's the main "colours" for each lineage right now
(kindred being "Khthones" or "Angelcynn", lineage being "Gorgones" or "Mierce", etc.)
Just found this on the KS, as some of us will be painting these up for the first time thought it might be useful. I certainly didn't know about the more senior Fomoraic getting paler fur.
I've been dieing to see what he looks like painted up, and preferably posed next to something to give me a decent sense of scale.
I know Ophios was around from the BaneLegion days, but I'm probably going to go ahead and order a Hirakoth next month. Just really curious as to how he looks in scale with some humans/ painted up.
I can't seem to dig up any pictures of him outside of Mierce's. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots?
I even went and got my credit union account set up so I can throw lots of money at Mierce without worrying about Paypal!
Friday's mean only one thing in the realm of Darklands - Update day!
Jowan, Ssibyros, Werwulf Art and much else
It's Friday, and that of course means an update! This week we have Jowan and his doggies and Ssibyros in terms of work in progress images, and we've news of fulfilment as always!
Jowan of Carn Dhu and Drune-Hounds
Stéphane Simon's been beavering away of course and he's pretty much finished Jowan and one Drune Hound (we've called him Biter), with the second Drune-Hound (Snapper) almost there and the third one (Gouger) yet to be sculpted. We do reckon, with Stéphane's pace, that these will be finished next week. How awesome is that!
Ssibyros, Gorgonarchon
Stéphane NGuyen's Ssibyros is almost there! He's now parted up and there's not a great deal left to do, so we do hope to have Ssibyros with us before we start sending the Khthones. If not, he will not delay things - we will simply send out what we have.
Werwulf Concept Art
Danny Cruz is pulling out the stops with our Werwulfas, as you can see. We'll let the images do the talking...
Inguc, Werwulf Warrior
Cenric, Werwulf Warrior
There's still the champion, banner bearer and herald to do yet, although Danny assures me they'll be done over the weekend, so watch out for next week's update to see the full unit!
The Werwulfas are really shaping up to be something special! Benoît Cosse will be sculpting the Werwulfas, although he's currently working on Aalvór. We do hope to have the Werwulfas before Christmas, but they will probably not be complete until January.
Darklands: a World of War fulfilment progress
Good news - the Angelcynn are almost complete and all of their starter sets and associated miniatures that are available will be shipped next week!
Thus, we do believe that we will be sending the first Gorgonar starter sets in the first days of November, but we will see. Please note, here - the Gorgonar Starter Sets (and associated miniatures that are available) WILL be locked on the 4th of November, so if you want some, get them now...
The QuickStarter rules will be finalised over the next couple of weeks (I've a bit of editing to do) and should be available for download and printed of course in November.
Yes, Friday's are good days in the realm of Darklands! KS2 update!
First Friday Update!
This is the first of our Friday Updates for this Kickstarter project, so welcome one and all!
If you did not know already, it has become tradition on our first project to update everybody on a Friday, and we see no reason to change that for this project. So here we are!
Today we have a few early work in progress images of the foot version of Mananaan, the Fomoraic general, as well as the artwork for the first of our Descendants and a short note about fulfilment of Wave 0 items.
Mananaan, Untain of Baalor on Foot
We've been wanting to work with Pedro Fernández, the world-renowned sculptor for a huge number of different companies, for ages - and we've finally got him to work for us! He's sculpting Mananaan, our Fomoraic general, and these are the first early WIPs of him.
As you can see, he's chock-full of character and we can't wait to see him realised!
Ieuan Longshore, Warrior of Wygan
John Longshore - JLLongshore on the comments of course - is the first of our "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT" backers to get themselves some artwork.
John has become Ieuan Longshore, Warrior of Wygan in Darklands, and he will be a Brythoniaid Sell-Sword as John has identified his ancestors as Welsh. He has of course chosen to pay extra for a mastiff, called Taranau!
"Ieuan" is the Welsh form of the first name "John", and is pronounced "YEYE-yan". Taranau is pronounced "Ta-RAN-eye" and is Welsh for "Thunder". We have decided to keep John's last name as Longshore for two reasons - one, Wygan (now known as Wigan in Lancashire) was a border town in those times and was a mixture of Angles and Welsh; and two, it immediately identifies him as John's ancestor.
Iuean Longshore, Warrior of Wygan and Taranau
We think you'll agree - the artwork produced by Daniel Warren is superb, although please note, Taranau is not quite complete.
We don't yet have a sculptor earmarked for Ieuan, but we hope to book one soon, and whilst we cannot be sure of the wave that Ieuan will ship in, we think Wave 2 is a good middle ground. As always, we'll let you know when the time comes.
John is quite tall so Ieuan will be around 33mm to the eye and will be on a 30mm base.
You are able to purchase Ieuan Longshore and Taranau for £15 in the Darklands: First Edition section of the webstore right now, in the Brythoniaid subcategory!
(To the other "YOU'RE THEIR DESCENDANT" backers - I'll be in touch soon to arrange proceedings. Please be patient while I am snowed under with e-mails and messages from customers regarding pledge management!)
Wave 0 Shipping
This has been asked in the comments section so it's fair to say we think it's worthwhile answering it here so that everybody knows.
I think some people may have thought we would start shipping existing items for Wave 0 before December, but that's not the case; because of the Darklands: a World of War Kickstarter project's ongoing fulfilment, we will NOT begin the shipping of Wave 0 items before December.
Remember, too, that we will only begin shipping Wave 0 items in December. Depending on the amount of orders made, this fulfilment will spread into January and possibly February. Please be patient with us - we're going as fast as we can!
