Thanks again, I'm glad to finally have some dogs after all the looking I did.
I've restored the spawn villager, he shouldn't crash you anymore if you try to go past the end of the trades.
Also I have a poll about the Dakka map. Due to a bug involving the map being rotated and cropped, the co-ords are out of alignment. This affects displayed player locations, beds, signs, as well as the mouse over co-ord display and map links.
I was waiting on a bug fix to preserve existing map links, but the bug doesn't seem to be getting much attention. I can fix it by removing the current map rotation setting. This means the map will then have the north in the top left instead of the top right. Then all the coords will line up, but will break all old map links, as they'll now link to somewhere else on the map. Also the view perspective will have changed so if you've built something to be viewed from the map it will be shown from a different angle.
Do it as a temporary fix until the team responsible for the over viewer pull their collective fingers out of their collective butts, then switch it back.
How easily can you switch back and forth between them? Could you switch it for the day or something so we know exactly what we're getting? I voted 'yes' anyway.
Shadow Captain Edithae wrote:Do it as a temporary fix until the team responsible for the over viewer pull their collective fingers out of their collective butts, then switch it back.
That's a bit of a harsh thing to say. No-one is paying the Overviewer developers, they do all their work voluntarily. The code is open source, so anyone can take a look, download the code and try to fix the bug. I've even taken a brief look myself, but it's 1) difficult to pickup someone else's code on such a large project as this and 2) I've not got much experience with graphical rendering code.
Lotet wrote:How easily can you switch back and forth between them? Could you switch it for the day or something so we know exactly what we're getting? I voted 'yes' anyway.
Switching to the new view requires re-rendering the entire map, a very long and extremely computational intensive task. Currently I have the map only render the parts that have changed at a time when there's the least people on the server (9:30am GMT). Switching back isn't completely out of the question, but I'd like to avoid repeatedly re-rendering the entire map, due to the lag it will cause for anyone who happens to be online for the duration of the render.
The votes are currently in favour of changing the map. If there's anyone who hasn't voted yet, now's your chance:

Although he is still made of wool, for his woolly appearance reminds us of the polders of our home (and all our terrible journeys through them to get to school)!
I still wish there was an 'x-ray' option, so you could peel back a few layers and see the awesome inside structures.
Hrm. Dark, would it be possible to unload a specific chunk or two from the map, even if it's being used? You could, like, chop off the near corner of the Mesa to show off the basement area.
Does anyone know if there is an accessible public Guardian farm/grinder anywhere? Although I've recently cleared out an Ocean monument, if there is already one out there I can use to farm resources so I can focus on other projects it would be appreciated

So as I'm getting read to "retire" another librarian, because he doesn't meet my standards, I want to start a villager placement program.
I wonder if anyone else would like some custom villagers. The guy only has Smite 5, Efficiency 5, and projectile protection 4. I have people for those already so I don't need another one, this guy has to go. Yes those are correctly typed, no typos. I said smite 5, and efficiency 5.
Or my armor smith, trading a diamond chest piece with projectile protection 4, and unbreaking 3, which I already have one, thanks, don't need a second one.
I'm working on a pricing guide, but if anyone would like a personal villager who had specific trades let me know and we'll work something out.
So if you want a librarian with a specific book, I'll find him for you, if you want a smith with a certain tool or sword trade, I'll find him for you. Custom requests might take a while to find, so no rush orders.
I found this video today and it really helped my game run better. For those that lag in the game, this might help solve the problem. I didn't install optifind, I just played with the minecraft settings and it got rid of the spots I used to notice lag in.
You started building a house on my island. I've claimed the entire island, but if you'd like to build here, I think we can work something out and come to an agreement on who can build where.
I intend to build on the large mountain and rock spires here.
You've built a house down on the ground below the cliff, could you move this please? I want to keep this area free for farms, roads etc, and I'm going to build a huge Erebor/Lonely Mountain style mine entrance into the cliff face.
My structures here over by the portal were temporary. Eventually I'll remove the cobblestone structure and the area will be available for building. I'll build some sort of pedestal or building to house the portal.
This is a call for help to anyone on the server right now.
I have fallen off my tunnel into lava, (in the Nether) and would request if someone could possibly come by and hit me with a splash potion of fire resist (I have one at home in my chest if you really need it...)
If you walk toward my place on the Great East Nether tunnel, you should come across a single-block hole in the middle of the tunnel. This is what I fell into, and where I'm directly beneath. There's some Netherrack close to where I am if you don't want to chug a pot and go lavaswimming yourself- I carved a staircase down to that bit in the fortress support a little bit furthe back- it's hidden under the netherbrick stairs.
So, been playing SSP for a bit and decided to start playing on the server. Finally found a place I think I can live. Looks clear on the map and explored a bit and looks clear. Cool with folks if I build here?
A while ago I planted a small field of sunflowers beside the cactus farm at https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/3266/64/-2335/max/0/0 . Since I haven't needed either yellow or green dye for a while, I've had no cause to go there. However today I was improving my farming area and discovered that ALL of my sunflowers had gone! No idea if this was due to a server error (frankly unlikely as the plantation was fine for a couple of weeks) or somebody actually taking them all (in which case I am not impressed). Either way, if anyone has any sunflowers that I can pop by and bonemeal that would be great.
Generally speaking, if people are in need of particular resources just say and if I can help out I will. Please don't just take stuff though.
Cor, the Mountain Crown is looking good, Bin! I will have to see about visiting again. Did we ever finish our big underground route between there and Chasmholm?
Sad to hear about your sunflowers though. I remember that episode of The Good Life when someone nicked the Goode family's cabbages. Bad times. You get angry. Understandably.

Thanks, and of course you're welcome to visit any time. As for the underground route I think it was completed but honestly I couldn't tell ... it broke out into a confusing (but lit) set of caves so could be Chasmholm, could be somewhere else. Frankly I'd advise using the Nether.
While you're over I recommend a visit to the lake cottage if you haven't already seen it, just follow the road out from the stables and cross the river using the high bridge.
I wouldn't be that bothered about the sunflowers but they were a massive pain to get in the first place and I wasn't even left with one to bonemeal the crop back up to strength.
Still working around the rim of my basement. I think I might be able to start work on the great Trans-Eastern Dwarven Underground Rail Line soon. I think we figured it would be a good idea to do it near diamond level, so figure out where you want the stations to be- I think it would be coolest if it was a single unbroken straight tunnel with no bends or kinks in it.

If there was a way to make it so that we had to pay say gold to get a furniture egg from a shop at spawn that would be a pretty awesome feature on the server.
To be fair, that's not a mod. Pure vanilla, and so there wouldn't be any connectivity issues- just possible sever lag potential (and I'm not sure that sort of command block jiggery-pokery causes any additional lag anyways).
Anvil, a really broad mainline tunnel would be fantastic. Base at y=12, roof at y=17, and at least 5 blocks wide, would look ace. No kinks, no bends, but possible smaller side routes.

5 tall 5 wide? Maybe to start :p
The question here is where on the x and/or z. It would be going North/South, of course, but we need to figure it out so it won't interrupt too many other workings.
I was personally thinking a large round profile'd tunnel, maybe something like 10 or 11 blocks in diameter, with an elevated single-block wide trackline supported by regular pillars going down the center of it. That way we wouldn't have to worry as much about lighting or slabbing everything, since the actual rail track would be out of the range of creepers and zombies. Then stations at each of the major crossroads. We might be able to set up a redstone system with chest carts and hoppers that would assign a 'key' item to each station, so that a train of carts would automatically bypass any station not of that key.
That'd work... and if the low end was around y=10, we'd probably have a lava pool floor for large sections of the underside of the track anyway, giving us some light. If we wanted to be extra safe we could cover it in glass.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm liking the idea of leaving any chasms and caverns etc. more or less natural, other than boring the tunnel through them and making them vaguely safe.

Well I tried to find a portal other than the one leading to the (very nice) castle itself but failed. Followed a promising tunnel through the nether from the castle portal and ended up at the North tunnel.
I'm very happy to help you with your hole in the sea (mostly for andesite, diorite and granite if I'm honest) but without signposts I don't have a clue where to go ... and I don't much fancy an overland journey of that length!

Gimme another day or two to figure it out. I'll need to be doing some math for that.
Thing is, I think Chasmholm extends further East than the Mesa does (or any of the other potential stops along the Eastern Route), and definitely further underground. You can pretty much see the extent of the Mesa from the map.
Actually, looking at the map, unless Chasmholm is a TON further East extending underground from what you can see, the Mesa seems to be furthest. Maybe around the 3500-3600X coords? Take a look at any ravines that you have out that way and see if any of them strike your fancy as places to build the route- of course, the stations can be completely different if we really want, I suppose.
Melissia wrote: Is my area connected to that? I forgot... damn I need to get on again...
Not yet, the old South bridge still exists, though, it's left of the new tunnel. Your place is the one that's about Z:300 in the Nether?. Your house seems pretty messy. Aside from your Overworld Bridge, the place looks like it needs alot of work. How long has it been since you've played on the Vanilla server?

That is doable. It won't quite go to Chasmholm, but it will go to my Desert Temple, and Thingwall, and Sacred Mountain -- and it'll give me the impetus to finish my underground tunnel from Chasmholm to the Desert Temple, as that will then connect up to the main line.
Anywhere between 3500 and 3600 will intersect with one of the big chasms that's under the village by Sacred Mountain. I guess bang on 3500 for the centre of the rail would suit me best.
Desubot wrote: There where sign posts leading to it but its no biggy. il go widen the entrances and make stuff like a chicken cooker and a bacon hopefully.

Last year...
I need to do more. My house actually shouldn't be that messy, though-- it's pretty decently organized, so I wonder what exactly is "messy" about it?
Alright, so I was excavating the Mesa's basement (where the portal comes out) and I come across a lava pool. No biggy, just mining around it. But out of nowhere, something comes and knocks me in.
Could someone maybe come and get rid of the lava for me? Maybe make a ton of buckets and scoop it all out (it's a small pool)?
If you go through the Nether, you'll come out in my basement. There will be a staircase in one of the corners. If you go up that, one of the nearby columns will have the lava pool basically underneath/inside it.
I'll be logged off for the rest of the night and probably most of tomorrow. If you do get rid of the lava (because I logged off before I burned,) message on here to let me know, mmkay?
I'd super appreciate it. I've got my iron silk-touch pick on me, and would rather not lose it. I'll pay with iron ore, if you like, or coal ore. Or slime, maybe.
Alright Anvil, I walked out the portal, climbed the stairs to the left, standing at the top I walked a bit to the right and found an inescapable pool of lava. I've bucketed it.
If it's not the right pool, well, I've left a Silk Touch pick in a chest next to your portal. I hope that's the only thing you might lose to the burn.
Melissia wrote: My house actually shouldn't be that messy, though-- it's pretty decently organized, so I wonder what exactly is "messy" about it?
Well, mainly the exposed redstone wiring in a few rooms. I'm used to all that being hidden.
I'm afraid there was a slight industrial accident in the sea-mine earlier. Your employee, let's call him "Bob" may be a bit smaller now than he was when you last saw him. I'm sure he'll be fine.
(Really sorry, I didn't see the minecart or the nametag until after I'd dropped him to a two-block size)

Some of that's purely decorative, such as in the furnace room.
Hrm. That could be tricky for a portal that wide. You could potentially do a Portcullis-style gate with slime blocks, I imagine. I wish they weren't limited to 12, though.

it's ok, even with being limited to 12, how about a 50x50 door
For the moment I'm just tunnelling south in a 2-high, 1-wide kind of way. Figure we can go back through and clear out the walls and ceiling over that pretty easily after. See you at the other end, or halfway, maybe.
Looking at that route, our only issue before getting as far south as the Mesa is that we'll need permission from Stormwarrior, unless we want to go around, as the present planned route goes under some of his claimed territory. This might be OK -- he might welcome a rail station -- but we should check with him next time one of us sees him online.

If he's not keen (and I understand from previous posts that he has done a fair bit of building underground) then his territory runs fairly close to mine and I would certainly welcome a rail station ... plus there's quite a bit of tunnel already done.

Heh, seems that although I remembered to update the restart script, I typo'd in it. The server restarts should work now. However, if the server's been running for two days without problems, it seems we've come a long way from the frequent crashes we used to get.
The backups are a completely separate process and occur not only independent of the Minecraft version, but also run even if the Minecraft server is not running (e.g. crashed etc). But I've checked, and yes, they're still running
darkinnit wrote: However, if the server's been running for two days without problems, it seems we've come a long way from the frequent crashes we used to get.
Could this see a relaxation of the 2 hour reset regime?

Hmmm.
After Minecraft stopped crashing so much, one of the other remaining reasons I kept the two hour restarts was to remind people that the real world still exists and they should attend to real life things like eating food/going to the toilet/attending to children/doing homework/etc (delete as necessary).
If this method is generally frowned upon, I may be willing to extend the restart period to twelve hours in exchange for a subtle reminder of the real passage of time. How about something like this once an hour (but on the hour) instead of the restarts?:
I apologise for missing off any particular timezone, but I think those five there cover our main player base (correct me if I'm wrong?)
Heh, well I've put it in place for now. Server restarts on the Dakka server are now every 12 hours at 12:40 GMT and 00:40 GMT.
The time message is every hour. With a randomised teasing line after. This is a trial, if it doesn't cause any issues, it stays in place. If the messages are annoying or too repetitive they can be adjusted.
I will be hosting a Hunger Games match in my lands
I'll be putting out numerous chest marked with signs "Hungry Brah?" and thing s of that sort. The will be scattered throughout my above ground and limited below ground areas.
The game will start at 10 PM EST Combat logging and things of that nature will be BANNED. If you have gear you'd like to see in the chests contact lordbean123 on the server. Dark if you don't approve and say no well... Darn
Either I will or if he can I'd ask Darkinnit to mediate and place the chests. Mostly cause it would be unfair for me to know all the locations and gear given. And I want to play along side everyone else.
Each player will have 3-5 respawns to make it last a bit.

I'm ok with this, you've set a time, date and area for PvP, with advance warning, so it's all cool. (i.e. people can't claim ignorance of wandering into the area and getting hurt).
I had to google this, so quoting it for others who also aren't aware:
Combat logging is when you're in combat with someone and they log off while you're fighting them.
I can't guarantee yet I'll be around then, but if I am, I'll be happy to help out.
basically what I ask Dark, is that YOU hide the chests. It unfair for me to have prior knowledge of Locations and contents. I'll already have the home court advantage. If you could PM a time I can give you a tour of the PVP zone I had planned out
I'm also on after the 938 Resart most nights if you want to reach me then. It'd just be late in the night for you to do so
I would like to take part but thats 3AM in the UK...

3am UK, 4am for most of mainland Europe, 5am for Eastern Europe. Australia, Central/Eastern Asia, and most of West-Coat/Central America should be fine; Europe and Africa is pretty much a no-go, and West-Asia might struggle.
Also, bearing in mind that the 2nd of March is a Monday, I'm not sure how many East-Coast US people will be able to be up at 10pm to play if there's school or work the next morning.
I might be easier to have it on the 28th February/1st of March weekend just before it, or the following 6th/7th of March weekend, with as much balance in the timing as possible.
Well I can't really play earlier in the day. I just don't normally get the chance
I can see if I could ahold of a earlier time for future games, but for this round of Hunger games (thinking on making this a semi regular thing) I'm keeping this time and date.
Fear not! If you are unable to show there shall be another chance!
Hello, I recently went public with a huge 40k custom modpack and server. I had to do a lot of custom programming to add everything I wanted, but it's come together pretty well. We are using 1.7.10 because most modders drew a line in the sand there, seeing as how vanilla updates are kind of small compared to what mods can do.
Right now the only people really playing are veterans from a server I previously ran. We run the pack through technic because it makes installing/updating extremely easy.
The server is pretty intense as well. Lots of custom plugin work and stuff to get our war system set up.
I really hope you guys will check it out. The pack and custom mods took months to make and I put a lot of attention into the details. Let me know if you need help or just want to know more about the server.

You underestimate how much pain I'm in right now.
And exactly 24 hours after finishing my shift I'm starting a new job at 7am on Tuesday.
Gangstamuffin and I were chatting the other day and decided to reduce the amount of stone structures between the iron farm and Lordbeans lava shop. While also trying to make it look less cluttered.
I have closed the iron farm temporarily til I get it redesigned,
I reworked the furnace today, I moved it away from the armor house 2 spaces as well, but I think it needs a few more touches.
Who owns the stone generator? Can you relocated it closer to the cobble generator so it's in range of the beacon? Maybe a joint stone/cobble generator?
That stone generator isn't very reliable. I tried to build this one in creative mode. It's very similar but it's only slightly more reliable. It can break after a dozen blocks, after a hundred, I gave it a few chances. Which is a shame, since stone can be mined faster than cobble.
I broke the stone generator but it's fixed now. It will break again and I'd advise a new design instead of relocating it.

ok I think I have this figured out, and I can add in a reset switch to block the lava, then clean up the stray blocks, and get it working again quickly. the rough draft is only 7x6x4 so I'll look around and see if it will fit somewhere near your beacon.
Automatically Appended Next Post: ok I just decided to modify your stone generator for now and leave it where it is. there's a switch that will block the lava so you can clean out the cobble blocks and it won't destroy the source water.
I can't stop it from breaking as that's a combination of lag & water mechanics, but it is a whole last faster to clear now and get back to digging.
I do not know if this is the right place to poost this, but i would like to appeal against my ban from around 2 years ago.
I would like it if someone with high authority could contact me via private message so we can discuss this further.
Thanks in advance

"High authority" is a funny way to put it, plus bans are permanent. But hey, PM me with whatever you want to discuss.
There was literally one, like, a page or two back (if not on the current page) of the FtB server thread. Apparently someone's managed to do a full-on 40K mockup Tekkit plugin mod thing.
Thraka, mind if I trade another 9 stacks of your redstone dust for 9 stacks of quartz?
How about letting me take all of your dirt and replace it with cobble? I've already traded a large chest because of what was said a month ago or so but I felt I should ask again, just in case.
Sure! I'll just try to go to your last location... here it seems. I'll place a small chest of quartz and we can trade 1:1 the next time you're on. I don't need an entire chest of redstone dust immediately but I've exhausted my supply so I'd like to get extra.
Yah, the chest is down, sitting on the fence. 27 stacks of nether quartz. I really need about 9 stacks of redstone dust, any more you can trade will be helpful later.
Thanks for all the redstone man, really needed it.
Though there was a small problem getting it back. The Nether side portal got attacked by a ghast when I teleported through. I couldn't do much while it was loading my position, got worried I'd be knocked off the balcony and into the lava immediately after getting the redstone. It was a long walk back to spawn for some flint & steel, back to Sacred Mountain and back again. Just thought I should let you know about the risk of that balcony portal.
It is a risk! Sorry about that. I've not had any problems with it before... it just seemed like such a perfect spot for a balcony, but I was aware it did leave the user a bit exposed. I maybe need to extend the corridor a bit and have doors onto the balcony.
Let me know if you need more redstone -- I still have a couple of stacks of redstone blocks, so about 20 stacks of dust I guess.
Automatically Appended Next Post: OK, added an extra corridor section with a door, so there is now no risk of a ghast taking out the portal. At least not without taking out the door 1st.
I'm always up for trading Dirt for Cobblestone. I got a couple double-chests of dirt at my basement workstation if you want to do the trade. My place should be rather safer to get to, though I still need to fix up a proper netherside connector from the tunnel.
Lotet wrote: Thraka, mind if I trade another 9 stacks of your redstone dust for 9 stacks of quartz?
Literally any time you want to trade quartz (or glowstone) for redstone let me know! I have plenty of redstone lying around and not a great deal of quartz.

Overlord Thraka wrote: Lotet. Trading that stuff is fine. Just make sure I have at least 1 double chest of Dirt for scaffolding and 1 stack of redstone blocks left
Alright, I've taken all the dirt offered. Thraka, I put most of the cobble in the storage hall. Anvildude, I hope you're fine with losing all your basement dirt. Thank guys.
Binidj wrote: Literally any time you want to trade quartz (or glowstone) for redstone let me know! I have plenty of redstone lying around and not a great deal of quartz.
Ah, I've already traded away most of my quartz. There's probably only enough to make a hut. But I'll remember the offer and I'll go to Mountain Crown if the need arises.
I was just using the redstone to extend South Tunnel. The sealed end of the tunnel isn't actually the end, it's more than twice as long as it looks. I just have it sealed because there's nothing on the other end so I don't want anyone wasting their time walking through, getting disappointed then walking all the way back.
You replying to the 4 year old original post? Maybe you should try posting to get on the Dakka server... unless you already have a server or don't play right now.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/360817.page Though you've only been here a month so I don't know if you could get in.
Dang it, I need permission from Osh to link up my road with his settlement, plus I am also going to make a large glass tunnel undersea. Anyone seen him online (oshunai)
Oshunai hasn't posted on here for over a year. This isn't really an indication of whether he's been on the Dakka Minecraft server or not during that time. But I wouldn't hold out hope that he'll appear any time soon.
I *think* Osh was on the FTB server about a month ago.
Extra emphasis on the *think*... I vaguely remember talking about the old tekkit days with him at the time though it could very well have been someone else (and if it was I'm sorry for confusing you with Osh... it's been a busy month)
Finally gonna get started (sorta) on this. If you want to log on and double check the coords, that could be helpful.
Hey sorry if this is the wrong place. But I'm trying to figure out how to download and play a Christmas mod for my autistic brother for minecraft 1.8.3. Does anyone know of a reliable mod download that works for this version? I've been trying for a day and a half and nothing seems to be working right.
Edit: it's also on a Mac if that makes a difference, thanks in advance.
This looks to contain quite a few fun new features, so I've set up a snapshot server so anyone here can enjoy all the new features in multiplayer.
If you want to try it out, use the instructions at the link above to get the new snapshot (I'd also recommend setting a different "Game Directory" in the new profile, to avoid messing with any saves you have)
Once you have the new snapshot, click multiplayer, and enter the following address:
www.darkinnit.com:25575
You must include the ":25575" to connect to the snapshot server.

Yeah... I'm still sad about the whole bluestone thing. Mumbo really got me there.
If this was any other day I'd be more annoyed about bluestone not actually being a thing then about being played a fool; but I almost went the whole day without being fooled once.
But nope, after a long day at Uni I log onto YouTube and get fooled by the first video I watch... typical me
How long will the snapshot server be up for? I'd love to get a chance to hop on and much about but I doubt I'll be able to get on for at least another 14 hrs (Sleep + Uni in the morning and all that)

Either someone already fixed it, or you're imagining things again... :-)
Lotet, it's a fine tunnel. Perfect proportions too, and even half-slabbed! Though there's that one bit with the raise...
But I Digress! It's not that it's a bad tunnel- it's that it's basically a Direwolf tunnel.
Oh, I know, even when I first finished it I wanted people to improve it, someone called it a canvas or some such. That was like, 6 months ago.
Hmm, now I feel like rebuilding the South tunnel. But even less people use South than East. Probably no one.
I was the one who called it a canvas :p
I am liking the way it all looks in the tunnels now, must get a plan together and agreed for west tunnel as it looks a little lacking now. On that note all of the iron bars used in the current west tunnel design where made by myself or storm lord, so if a re design is on the cards for west please ensure that these are recycled into it or stored for me and storm to work out what to do with them.

Just so long as I stop getting my sprint interrupted by those stupid staircases. You have to go in a exact straight line or else your screwed.
It'll be nice to have all the tunnels done up nice.
On a side note. Anyone have a double chest or either Quartz ore or just plain Quartz blocks? I'm trying to build a bank/temple of Mianite and don't have the supplies to finish it. I plan to go Quartz hunting only as a last resort.
On another side note, Would a small bank at spawn be supported? If someone were to supply Quartz and Maybe obsidian I could build it
Cantium, that tunnel design looks like it would allow Pigmen to spawn. That's not really a big deal. Just thought I'd let you know you'd have the only tunnel riddled with Pigmen.
The floor design does use slabs in the top section of the block. Please forgive me if i am wrong but can mobs spawn on slabs used like this?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Though admittedly moving the slabs up would not be a hardship and i dont think it would make too much difference to the design
Yeah, top half slabs sadly act like normal blocks for spawning. The East had a similar design before I realized this, and I did a similar thing, just pulling the slabs up to be even with the bottom stair.
Whelp. Tunnelling out towards -4500 Z from basically 0 Z right now. At lava lake level. Or rather, a block above lava lake level, in order to be able to bridge the lakes without messing up the lava itself.
The underground can be a beautiful place. I've forgotten that, in the process of imposing my will on the stone under the Mesa.
Hey Stormwarriors (TyrannidHorde, I think here?)- I was exploring your castle (the East Rail Exploratory tunnel has reached the ravines near your castle if you want to start planning a station)- but I ended up falling off your tower. My stuff's currently sitting on the platform between your main middle towers- hopefully it's in unloaded chunks, and you'll read this before logging on, so you can grab it for me. There's a couple blocks of emerald ore and a diamond pick- the rest is pretty meh- feel free to take one of the emerald ores for payment if you want.
Would anyone mind if I took out the ladder in the middle of the 0,0 nether portal? I went up it and someone had been digging around up there. I'm not sure if it currently serves any purpose, but if no one would mind losing the ladder I could put a speed beacon in the middle of the portal

Not really, I could put the ladder in a corner of the portal, with the light up the middle, but that might really look odd and bug some people.

I went in and didn't find anything. They must of despawned before I got there.
By the time I reached it I think I was a bit late. Sorry I have been on in months. Studies and all.
I will be back on the server sometime but this year has taken all my time and my creativity into fixing and building 3d models so. I will be back and will comeback to making spawn look more pretty!
It's not that close, really, so no issues with building under you. I broke through into the nearby ravine that you'd explored.
Yeah, the emeralds were ores for decoration. I've already traded most of my rotten flesh stock to the priests at spawn (sorry if they don't have anything anymore- bought some glowstone and lapis from them as well).

NEVER. MINE. DIRECTLY. BENEATH YOURSELF.
Especially when you're NEXT TO A SLAB OF OBSIDIAN.
There goes an inventory of cobble, coal, diamond, redstone iron and lapis ores, ANOTHER enchanted diamond pick, and 20 levels.
@Anvil, I'm now around -3800Z! Getting there. I'm tunnelling at Y=12 right now so as to avoid lava. Are we panelling the lava over with glass, eventually? Or just running our suspended railroad well above it?
I've not been on much lately due to having moved in with the LOVE OF MY LIFE and stuff. Basically my evenings are... occupied for the foreseeable future. Which is fantastic. But I need to make time for MC too. Someday.
I think he liked the idea. And, at the moment we don't really have a central file of publicly available farms. I'd love to collect a bunch of gunpowder from you or Ralph but didn't know it was available (I did stock up on string/wool from Ralph a few months back).
Likewise if anyone has endless iron available, please let me know, 'cos if I didn't have to use stone picks all the time it'd make building this 10x10x4500 tunnel easier.

just ask for mob drops, we can make a deal
and forget the iron, find something to trade for emeralds, then get the diamond picks from the traders at spawn
I have a feeling people are taking from the free iron, pumpkin, melon, and sugar farms and just trading the stuff to villagers for emeralds already.
Automatically Appended Next Post: hey dark, did you update the server to 1.8.4 yet?
Sugar? Definitely. Me and the librarians have a... deal.
Not as awesome as the Priests can be, though. There's one who really likes me- I traded essentially my entire stock of zombie flesh to him- any time he ran out of emeralds, I'd trade for some glowstone or lapis till he ran out of that, then he'd start trading flesh again- but there was more flesh trading than the others, so I came out with a net positive of emeralds, plus some nice glowstone and lapis.
@IanSturrock- are we gonna do a square tunnel? I was thinking we'd do a round one.
Round, aye. And probably 11 squares diameter rather than 10? That way there are 5 squares on each side of the 1x1 rail support in the middle. I quite fancy cleanstone for the rail support -- what do you think? Or do we want to go super fancy, given the apparent abundance of iron, and go AFK for long enough to get 4500 blocks of iron? I mean, this is kind of a long-term project, given that we are not yet at 4500 x 2 x 1.
AFK won't work. The iron farm is in the Spawn chunks, and so is loaded 24/7 anyways as long as the server is up.
Cleanstone works- we could do slabs as well. I'm thinking no powered rails, so we won't have to worry about those (because powered rails would mess up the ability to do proper trains- and all that gold...)
What about pillars? Could be cool to do quartz or obsidian.
Actually, thinking about it, Obsidian might be a good idea for the rail support as well, just in case of creepers below the tracks. I've got a pile of it mined up already, and whole pools of lava I'm planning on emptying out.
Yep, early on Saturday I believe. I just did it as part of the usual server restart.
Sweet!
When I comeback to the server after my time is a bit freer. I will start working at spawn and trying to build a special place. Such as a library of the players histories or something written in minecraft's books such as history or lore of the server

Say what? how do powered rails mess up the ability to do proper trains?
Turn up the power, or it would be faster to walk than take a unpowered cart you can go minimal at 1 powered for every 60 and take 690 seconds, but at 1 powered every 32 meters, you can go your 4k trip in 500 seconds
I'm talking about using a Powered Cart to push upwards of 6 or more chest carts (and maybe passenger carts too) in front of it. That way you can set up cool loading and unloading stations based on track switching and piston systems to do the whole thing at once- as well as automated destination choice (using a 'key' item in the lead car with item-specific hopper locks). Using powered rails means that each cart is going to have varying speed in relation to each other and be non-contiguous.
Though it occurs to me now that we may want to do a proper 2-rail setup- one side going North and one side going South, to avoid potential collisions.
Also, keep in mind that we have free iron on the server from the spawn farm, and Ralphy has a gold farm (though I'm not sure if/when he's willing to trade.)
Also, keep in mind that we have free iron on the server from the spawn farm, and Ralphy has a gold farm (though I'm not sure if/when he's willing to trade.)
32 is also easy because all you need to do is cut your 64 iron rails by half.
2 tracks would be good. I still like an 11 x 11 tunnel though. How about 2 obsidian track supports at blocks 5 and 7 (going left to right), so there's a 1-block gap between them? We can have them connected by obsidian blocks every 5 blocks or so, too. It *should* in theory be possible to make obsidian in a long 3-wide pattern using dirt molds, and then mine out the areas we don't want it (and use that mined obsidian for the pillars).
Thing is, casting the obby means we can only build it in lengths of 10 or so blocks (assuming we're doing both sides of the track at once) due to lava buckets not stacking. Whereas pre-mined Obsidian can be carried in full stacks.
Having them on either side of the central line sounds keen, though.
or you guys could mine the obby that's inside my wall that I need removed for my beautification project, there should be about 2,000 blocks of obby in there.
the obsidian layer is behind the stone brick layer on the non-detailed exterior, there are also a few stacks in one of the chests in the sandstone shack. as an FYI, only the south and west gates are working at the moment. if food is needed the wood hut to the south is an auto-melon farm.
Hey Asherian, congrats on your nice, shiney new direct-tunnel to the Nether Hub Network. Signs, decoration and orientation are up to you, though I'd like to organize the tunnel to line up with one of the alcoves or walls in the East Tunnel.
But now you can get back to spawn quicky, (relatively) safely, and with a minimum of consulting your maps!
We are talking about needing like 10,000+ blocks of obsidian though. Say 13,500 ish including support pillars. That's a considerable amount... I guess it's only 9 or 10 diamond picks, though, as compared to 450 water and lava pours. Yeah, OK.
Just gotta remember the travel time, too. We can't go stealing all the lava from the scenic bits we're going through, and even then, it's sometimes a good 2 or 3 minutes of running between lava pools.
Speaking of running, I'm to about -2200, and at the point where it's faster for me to run back to StormWarriors' base, go through his portal, to my portal, to get back home. What's your progress?
Not much better than it was -- maybe -3500? I've been helping Jambayemon finish off his mansion lately, but I finally finished the roof of the wizard tower yesterday, so I will be back at it soon! Will happily do the rest to -2200 if you like, then we've done half each. That's at 2x1 obviously... expanding to 11x11 round will take a while!
Ooh yeah. I might get started with the 11x11 if you want, then. That and start collecting the obsidian. We'll have to work out a good rail and pillar structure- figure out how far apart to make the individual columns, if we want any embellishment, etc. etc.
This is Jambayemon's mansion btw -- quite pleased with the look of it! Design mostly by him, building work by both of us. The wizard tower inevitably has an enchanting room in it. Main house includes a one-use secret escape tunnel...
BTW, Anvil, I am guessing the bottom of the 11x11 tunnel should actually be... y=11, right? Or even y=10? Because we actively want lava lakes at the bottom of the tunnel?
And, shape of the tunnel is the 11x11 one from this generator?
That looks good. The thin one, of course- I'm thinking the pixels themselves should be the outer 'air' blocks, rather than the cave walls?
Also, I've been planning it so that the bottom of the tunnel- the bottom layer- is the lava layer. I've been mining a block above that, so as to be able to build bridges over the lava without disturbing it, and still have a flat path.

He has been building forts all over the place, the Free Holds, I think. Even building some tiny towers near spawn. It seems he just wants to put his mark all over the place using basic buildings and it might be getting out of hand.
Also, seems there was a mishap at the Spawn Alchemy Hall. What could it have been? Fire? Creepers? Alchemical explosion? Considering that nothing but wood was damaged, I'd guess fire. But all walls and doors are also undamaged so that would mean the fire started indoors. Oh well, it's fixed now. Just thought it should be mentioned.

Spoiler:
Might be lightning from the same storm that killed some of the iron farm villagers.

Oh? I was told you were the person remodelling the armoury at spawn, the place with all the armour stands and weapons on display, along with more free iron tools. I only see a sparse amount of the armour left, the rest, I don't know.
For the purpose of keeping things as reasonable as possible, could you refrain from assuming or implying guilt? There was no point at all in publicly singling gangsta out for what would've otherwise been a reasonable question regarding the armoury. All that sort of behaviour does is trigger raised tempers and ultimately make the process of actually finding anything out that much harder.
Make a general inquiry first, and if that turns up nothing, or you still suspect foul play, tell dark--especially if you suspect a certain player or players.
Is that how it came off as? My original post didn't have the name, that was added only 12 hours later.
I felt I should ask him in particular since I was told he was working on the area, and there was a chance he wouldn't know what happened to everything so I decided to ask directly. Otherwise, if he didn't know and I didn't ask him it would look to me like he just ignored the question or something. But if he did know then it'd all be relevant and fine.
But if you don't want names then I won't start with them any more.
Even though it was intended to be just a question and not an accusation.
Just a note to anyone continuing the west tunnel improvements while i totally burn up at work and dont log in i took 8 stacks of cobble from the supply chests at spawn (edit i ment the two doubble chests at the start of the west tunnel) to make into stone bricks to then make stairs from these are currently sitting in my auto smelter if you wish to find them,
It is in the blacksmith building on the left as you exit my portal. The only contents will be the stone blocks so just take them to continue the improvements ill hopefully be on again soon due to a bank holiday in the UK may 4th though this is potentially to be lost to international starwars day...
Not to mention I've been building this for over a month now and he didn't say a word about it. At least a month before that I had one of my outposts there and it wasn't an issue.
My take on it would be that if you can see somebody else's builds then you should ask permission. I avoid building even in the same biome as someone else without prior negotiation.
From my castle, I can see pretty much half your house Comrade, if you care to sample the view from my end
EDIT
Okay, I've now removed 2 months of my own work, and I am pretty certain I'm going to have to move because Comrade is not going to budge in this difference of opinion. I have literally just come back from a really busy and stressful time in my life, including the death of my cat, and some other issues at work. I am not amused at all. Comrade essentially is refusing to move at all. I have offered to help, along with other players. I cannot help it if my own timetable gets me back into minecraft after you've build a big house. You are pretty much implying "suck it up ****". You did not communicate or attempt communication even in Dakka forums (which I frequent regularly).
I feel justified in my anger, because of that lack of contact.
SECOND EDIT
I also feel like I cannot resettle easily, because of retaliation and as Comrade put in his own words "I like to put down outposts wherever I like:" I also feel strongly threatened. Mondo did not help the situation, egging comrade on to "build something to spite him"

It is in the blacksmith building on the left as you exit my portal. The only contents will be the stone blocks so just take them to continue the improvements ill hopefully be on again soon due to a bank holiday in the UK may 4th though this is potentially to be lost to international starwars day...
I've been working on it when I have time between projects. last I knew it was almost to stormlords place.
Was there a plan on how far the new tunnel will run?
My take on it would be that if you can see somebody else's builds then you should ask permission. I avoid building even in the same biome as someone else without prior negotiation.
just to put in my 2 cents and not take sides here, I would find that to be to close. If someone was within 120M of my walls I'd call that way to close and I'd tell them to get off my lawn.
Mining tunnels would be my main issue, as that creates a direction you can't dig in. It also prevents expansions without really encroaching on the other. From the picture it looks like Comrade boxed Doctadeth in, water on one side, you on another, that really limits his space and that makes it to close. Then there could also end up being an added lag issue being that close, I hear my place can cause lots of lag for older computers, so imagine if I moved near enough to you where you could see my building and feel it's lag.
I know dark can do some fun magic and move stuff around, maybe Comrade & Doctadeth should appeal to him to act as a mediator and he could help to negotiate a settlement.
Anyone within 100-200 blocks can cause issues, its not always what you see on surface, mining tunnels, there may be sub way rail lines or underground infrastructure below seemingly emptey lands.
Also may be claimed caves, spawners or mining rights to a area which at times are very valuable. A 50 by 50 is somthing like 100 + diamonds no fortune. High fortune hundreds.
Got to respect others land, needs some or you get chaos.
Automatically Appended Next Post: That or a totaly below ground or builkt into a mountain, the only sign may be a small camoflarged door way on a edge of a Forrest.
Just to put up some more clarification, "Close" on this server (unlike on many others) is basically 'I can walk to it in the Overworld within a day'. We build big, claim big territories, and like to have unspoiled views.
The distance between the Mesa as it currently stands and the mini-Orthanc of KonradNovak (Looksie is actually really, really small- and that's over 250 blocks. The only reason it's at all okay is because we're both Wall Builders- there's clearly marked delineations of our respective territories that we both can be resonably sure we won't extend farther from.
For those who don't build walls, or create community style territories, you need a significantly greater distance, unless specifically invited in.
I remember back on the prior server, someone wanted to build in the shadow of my inner walls- this was before I'd started on the further out ones, though I already had plans for them- They were polite enough to ask, even though they weren't actually inside or directly next to my own structure- I told them what was going to be happening around them, and they were alright with it. It was all above-board, though, and agreed upon between each player.
If you don't have that sort of dialogue, you really need to make sure you find a much, much more remote area to build in. This is why we have the Nether system in place- to allow people to utilize more land and travel further out without significantly increasing the travel time- remember, the Map isn't the boundary of the world.
I agree with Anvil -- we have big open spaces here, and are actively encouraged to go find new places to explore and build. A bit of dialogue and compromise go a long way. There's very rarely any need to invoke strict server rules and move/demolish buildings, as long as we all make sure we talk to each other and respect each others' wishes. Doing things this way makes for happier players, and less work for Dark, which is win-win really.
Anvil! You're back! I had a question upthread: "So, if you're standing on the bottom of the tunnel -- where it's not in lava -- are you at y=11?"
Also talking of permission do we defo have permission from StormWarriors to build under the tunnel under his turf...?

Yep, and due to distance and hills, I can't even see the Grey Mesa's outer walls from my gatehouse. Granted, my wall project got a wee bit larger than I originally planned, but I'll fill it with a mossy cobble town eventually.
Hey Git, you know that you can make mossy cobble now, right?
@Sleit(Ian)- The block that I stand on in the bottom of the tunnel is the surface lava block. That is, if I was able to stand on top of lava source blocks.
How's your progress going? I've started doing the circling out- it's rather large. But pretty cool looking. I think we'll have the rail so that the carts are traveling at the center vertically? Or should we have the supports (the railbed, I suppose) at the center? I've found that carving out the upper half first is easiest, because you can't reach the top from the bottom or sides.
1. I've been getting back into MC and so I'm back, yay!
3. I finished tunneling to the "mainland" and have an exit tunnel near -500, 1000. I wanted to make sure that wasn't going to be an issue with whomever is right there. If so, it can be moved.
4. I was tunneling to connect to the overland rail system and looks like the closest connection will be at what I think is Suburbia @ -130, 830 ish and just wanted to coordinate with whomever is in charge there as to how to best connect to the existing system, or really anyone that can speak for that area.
5. I am connected in the Nether, South Tunnel.
6. Do we have a TS, or Vent, or Skype, or any kind of organized VOIP setup going? I hate to mine and type if I can avoid it.
Evil lamp: There is a rail connect on the NW corner of Surburbia, it goes to spawn. I see no problem connecting to it seeing as how Im the one who walled, fixed, lighted and repaired everything over there.
you could even build a small house over there, theres open plots
I will get there sooner or later. Been doing utility tunnels out to the main tunnel to, so I can nip away to Chasmholm etc. to resupply / drop off cobble.
1. I am now connected to the spawn rail system through Suburbia, yay! It should be ok, but if I dun goofed, let me know/fix it/whatever. I thought it looked alright.
2. What would it take to get a plot in Suburbia? I noticed there were still several unclaimed/empty plots. What are the building rules, if any? Aesthetic rules? Please point me in the right direction.
3. How would people feel about a Water Temple let completely intact, but open to the air? As some of you may know, there is a Water Temple very near me and I was thinking about covering the whole area of it in sand/gravel to the water surface, build a glass dome around that, and then empty it out of the sand/gravel and any remaining water, with an underground entrance to the whole thing. I'd replace the ocean above it again just to not leave a gaping hole, but otherwise we'd have a glass encased open air intact temple thing. Thoughts?
You know what? Go big. Dome in the whole thing up so big that the dome pierces the surface.
Build the dome first, using water-breathing potions, Aqua Affinity helmets and Depth-strider boots (new stuff, basically lets you act like underwater isn't), then empty it out from the top down with sponges.
Bonus points if, instead of the classic solid glass dome, you put in supporting ribs made out off another material- stone or one of the marine materials. Extra bonus if you make the dome double-thick.

2. Look for Mel's "example house" near one of the corners. It's got all of the rules and guidelines posted.
Go to North Tunnel and follow signs pointing to Sacred Mountain. Next to the Sacred Mountain portal is a blue prismarine path, follow it to the grinder portal. There are stairs next to the exit of the portal, go down to the collection area.
Okay, so after all this kerfuffle, I finally got to starting out my wizard tower. The base of the main tower has been just started, but will be needing oak, and lots of it.

Probably your best bet is the tree farm at spawn, easier than growing your own and risking one of those nightmare (but pretty) giant oaks.

Birch is such a lovely wood, controlled height, its a gem :-)

I always burn the stuff I can't reach.
That is a effective way, though as I tend to be abit of a dwarf and whist I'm mining you can open out some largish spaces so abit of dedicated digging and some free ore you can end up with a good underground farm or stone to build a controlled area.
Yes they grow abit slower but bonemeal is not hard to farm.
Animations / Entity Models[2][3] Could possibly include model changes within the NBT data. Would be implemented via resource packs.[4] Will make better use of code so that map/mod makers can create better/new mobs.[5] Same as the block data changes in 1.8. May not be 100% finished. Blocks New block type.[6] New dark colored block.[7][8][9] Cannot be obtained and does not naturally generate.[10] Has a visual effect on the world.[10] Grass Path[11][12][13] A 15/16 block tall grass-like "path". It features a similar texture to the grass block. Items Quivers[14][15] Can hold arrows.[14] New arrow types.[14] Shields[14] Captions / Subtitles[16][17] Subtitles which display for each sound for the hard of hearing/deaf.[18] An example would be "[creeper hissing]".[19]
Bosses Proper support for multiple bosses' health bars, so they show at the same time without obstructing each other.[20] Ender dragon boss fight A redo of the ender dragon's boss fight, making it similar to the fight in Console Edition.[21][22] Some obsidian pillars will have iron bars surrounding the ender crystal.[23] The ender dragon now breathes purple particles.[23] The dragon will respawn without resetting the End if it has already been killed.[24] Clouds New cloud rendering system.[25] Command blocks New GUI[26] Will contain tab to complete. A way for mod/plugin makers to implement new commands and register them in a simple way.[27][28][29] Death messages Death messages will now be displayed on the death screen instead of just in the chat.[30][31] Shaders Switch away from using fixed-function OpenGL to using Shaders.[32]
Some End Crystals are protected against arrows. HAHAHAHAHA!! I am SO ridiculously happy about that- do you know just HOW MUCH it bugs me that people spend so much time attempting to shoot the hard-to-reach ones down, when they could have just come with a couple stacks of obby/dirt and pillared/staircased their way up?

Do you have any idea how many times my wife has tried that, only to get knocked off the pillar by the dragon so she falls to her death
Then should you get up there to mine away the iron, and hit the crystal, it explodes and you fall to your death anyways.
Bwahaha! Precisely. It makes the fight much more of a challenge. As it stands now, you basically just have to have a decent bow and enough arrows (or infinity), and it's a long but relatively boring fight.
Add in some fire, some required climbing- it changes things up, makes it more stressful while going through the actual process.
Sometimes the server disconnects me every few seconds when i am near or inside an ocean monument that i am trying to dry out. Dark, is there anything unusual in the server logs?
I don't get a crash report as the client doesn't crash and the disconnect message is most often just "Connection Lost, Disconnected" or seldom "java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host".
I tried different java versions, reinstalled minecraft, reset my computer and tried a different network adapter without any change concerning the frequent disconnects.
Is that why you log in and out repeatedly for a while? I've been having trouble with an Ocean Monument. I don't get logged out though, instead I get lag that gets progressivly worse and worse till I log out and back in. The lag can be so bad I have to wait 45 seconds for a furnace to open. This has gotten me killed as I just stood in a safe, dry room, watching my health just tick down and down for more than 10 seconds, then I drowned... didn't even find the sponge room I wanted.
Lots of lag for me lately too... thought it was that I'd mostly moved to a place that only had broadband rather than fibre, but it's almost as bad with a fibre connection too.

Yes, if i log out quick enough i can log in immediately again and "play" for a few seconds and try to move away from the monument. A few attempts or sometime later i can get back to the troublesome spot. I lost quite a few sponges to one of those disconnects already :(
Maybe there's something going on with the Guardian spawning. Could there be caves or a ravine below it that Guardians are spawning in, then falling out of range so that more spawn in after? Check the entities count in f3 maybe.

It's strange. I can't reproduce it in that area and I see nothing in the logs or server statistics to suggest any server problems. Often lag can be confined to a particular area (too many mobs etc), but I can't see anything wrong in the area that you're experiencing the problem.
The logs just say "Tikkamasala lost connection: TranslatableComponent{key='disconnect.timeout'," no more useful detail than that I'm afraid.

Thanks for investigating my problem. I was afraid the logs wouldn't really show anything helpful. From the sparse messages in the logs on both sides it looks as if my net connection just dies or gets blocked in those situations. I'll have a look at my network traffic next time i am on.
