The boxes are lovely! I'll reserve judgement on the instructions until I use them I have a thing for resin crates and boxes. THey will be welcome addition to my collection!
I found a local record store! I spent hours with the owner today. Asking about equipment, etc. He Pulled out Wilco: A Ghost is Born, a record I know so intimately that I know every little background noise in the recording. He played tracks for me on different turntables, and Damn could I hear a difference on this one!
This all started last night when Ladygeek and I were at the mall shopping, and much to my surprise, there was a new Record store there too! I found all three Wilco and Billy Bragg Mermaid Avenue records on 180 Gram Vinyl, and she bought them for me!! ! Mermaid Avenue is a collection of lost Woody Guthrie songs that he never recorded music for, just Lyrics. Billy Bragg and Jeff Tweedy wrote music to go with the lyrics.
It's Americana Vik, A mix of Rock, Blues, Folk etc. Each track is a bit different. Woody Guthrie was a Post-War folk singer, by definition, but his music is timeless imho.
Wilco was originally classified as Alternate COuntry in the late 90s, but they have evolved into their own thing nowadays. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is their "White Album" to me, everything since just keeps getting better
Billy Bragg is ok, As an album listener, I just take his songs as part of the package. I am more of a fan of Wilco.
You can't really classify them like you used to do with bands. Singer/songwriters- not these modern-era showboats who don't even write their own stuff.
I'm only really into older country, stuff like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. Drinking-country The stuff that when it comes onto the jukebox in the bar, the whole bar starts singing along.
I was watching the 2 part documentary on the Dust Bowl, and it was that depression era where Woody Guthrie started as he was one of the exodus from Oklahoma to California. Serious stuff that Dust bowl and depression era
I'm pretty sure I have her CDs in the basement somewhere. I never was into punk much, though friends were, ever hear of the coors?(I'm not talking the beverage either one of my friends in school believed it was wrong that a family that beautiful was just wrong, and had no right to have musical talent as well.
@dave, there's an awesome record store here in saint louis named "vintage vinyl" been around for decades and is near chuck berrys restaurant "blueberry hill".
There's a great record shop in Birmingham called "hard to find records". It was both filled with records (some of which I assume must have been rare) and it was quite difficult to find the actual shop...
I have a bookshelf full of vintage vinyl at my mom's house I'll have to bring home and listen to again. All my latest buys have been newer pressings though. I'm amazed at what newer releases and re-masters are available at the stores nowadays. The heavier 180g vinyl is supposed to be less prone to warping too, which is often a problem when buying vintage records that may have been stacked on their sides in attics for decades.
Very nice choice in music, Dave. Gotta say Wilco is a favorite of mine. They did a very long and widespread military bases tour kinda thing. Seen them several times....
Billy Bragg, well now, thats just my kind of music altogether......
Ooh, exscuse me if I'm being ignorant, but wherever did you find those toilets. I mean in a meta way, I'm sure the wastelands just knicked them off the back of an overturned truck somewhere.
I can't comment on the music, maybe I'll try and give them some listening time later, but the bottom right corner cd reminded me that I saw a promo poster at the theatre this weekend for robocop 2014.
True, Wilco requires you to "sit" with it, but once you do...
Daft Punk?
"Hook" is an understatement on this record
YES, they always wear the helmets onstage
Although their helmets are usually flashing funky LED patterns and synched with their stage show.
They did all the music for Tron: Legacy and were the DJ's in the club in the movie.
Automatically Appended Next Post: If any of my friends in the UK or Germany LOVE me this Christmas, and can find an R.E.M. Monster album (for cheap) I'd repay you in lavish hobby gifts
0.0 Feck, $125 for the vinyl of that album on amazon. Don't your record shops carry R.E.M.? I mean the ones here don't always have the widest selection (ie whatever the hipsters are listening to at the moment), but I'll have a look see at some point.
R.E.M. has re-pressed almost all of them EXCEPT Monster, therefore making the original US pressings pretty Rare. I'll happily take a UK or German Pressing (as long as it's in English) and in good shape.
I NEED to hear "What's the Frequency Kenneth" on my turntable. I NEED to Air-guitar around the house with it cranked up to 11
If you know the song, you'll understand why I must do this
Amazon is good for new 180g. re-pressings, since they undercut the price a bit, but these sat around in bins for years and then BAM they were all gone.
Yeah Max, not valuable for demand really, just valuable because of rarity. Often times, with the new pressings, they give you a copy of the CD and/or free MP3 download of the album for portability.
Yeah, the Carbon Fiber tonearm, and grounded phono stage preamp really keep all that old noise away. Plus the new cartridge, stylus, and 180g virgin vinyl they use on pressings makes a huge difference.

Ah, I wonder if they had all that back a few years ago if the collectors of records would be in better stead now? There is a difference of listening to records and CD's overall.
I was just thinking of a movie plot tonight, let's see if you guys think it's great or not . I'm at work at the hospital, second shift 4pm-1am, almost full moon out, really freaking cold, freezing rain with ice accummations and 2-4" of snow expected, my boss walks around the corner of the hallway twirling scissors in his hand oblivious to anyone around him(he's kind of an odd guy) , and it's Friday the 13th. I'm just one hot chick away from a franchise
Too bad he never did a Star Trek episode as his father did.....Willaim Campbell, his Father played Capt Koloth in "The Trouble with Tribbles" as well as the "Lonely Squire of Gothos"
Years later, he was teamed up as Koloth woth Kang and Kor with ridges and went with Dax to kill another Klingon called the Albinoa who had killed their sons, Dax as blood father or such also made the vow when it was old man Dax, but female Jadzia honored the blood oath and went hunting with the three legendary Klingons, Kang, Kopr, and Koloth!
Yeah, her ugly sweater serves a dual purpose though. She came home from doggy day care with a sizeable wound on her skin. She has 3 staples in her side (healing up quite well) and the sweater keeps her from licking and biting at them
dsteingass wrote: Yeah, her ugly sweater serves a dual purpose though. She came home from doggy day care with a sizeable wound on her skin. She has 3 staples in her side (healing up quite well) and the sweater keeps her from licking and biting at them
Ouch! fight with another dog? they are supposed to try and keep that from happening.
So dog care is as viscously brutal as kindergarten care?My spson gets back with bruises and torn clothes quite often too...
I thought the sweater was for finding beans among the white mess of snow outside...we currently have around ten degrees Celsius outside...I call that freaking summertime now...where was that snow my kids ordered??? But I guess Santa can only deliver what's able to be wrapped in gift paper...
We've got about 6 inches of snow here, you can have some if you want it!
Whatever happened to Bean is a mystery- she's not talking, but it was a clean cut through the skin layer, but not into the muscle, no bleeding. Probably a stray claw- she plays like a crazy dog sometimes.
You'll probably get your snow soon vik. We usually don't have snow this early either, and I have a bad feeling on how this winter is shaping up. A lot of those "old koots" that I laughed at as kids say that the fuzzy caterpillars are showing it will be a harsh winter and all the deer and horses have grown thicker coats than in recent years. Not to mention how their knees hurt (but in summertime they hurt because of the heat, spring it hurts cause of storms, and fall it's because of a chill , I think their knees just hurt).
Poor bean, well as long as the sweater came second otherwise I'd say you might have a case of bullying
well...the past years we had packed ice on the streets...so then like Klaus stated we had quite enough of ice and snow... weather just doesn´t know what it is supposed to do according to scenic... around Christmas everyone wants snow...but not the coldness^^
Easily understandable! could i be correct in assuming she sometimes takes out some angst against those very opposable thumbs we speak? good lord she'd dye herself black if she saw a monkey's prehensile tail!
She just plays rough, you can see she has neck muscles like a Cardassian! (no not a Kardashian) I'm sure whatever happened to her was an accident. She's mostly healed up, it just itches her now.
If by "Warp" you mean the electric throw blanket on the couch then yeah We've had to clean the wound and give her a clean sweater everyday to keep the nurgle away
I wonder if her natural instinct to lick her wounds wouldn't have been the right thing to be done ...wasn't there some stuff in that slobber of hers that's disinfectant?
Yea, but we can't take the chance of her biting the staples out. The vet suggested a sweater, since it's right in the middle of her side where she can get her head to
Dogs mouths might be cleaned than humans, but we know other places dogs lick that aren't too clean . Did the vet giv you the choice between the sweater and the cone
up until I had a look of which collectors models we had it from I thought we got it from a bag...but nope...a quick fruitless google search brought no clue... now I think we got it from a big sale at the kids fleamarket... we get these regularly in summertimes here... and sometimes you really get lucky... of course no tabletop stuff here... but we once got in one go ten orange clonetroopers... the foundation of our clone army..
Not in MY house Doc!
I'll hack and paint any toy except LEGO We have hundreds, if not thousands of minifigs, I know I have him..I just don't know where he is.
Lego Cuusoo is an amazing site full of awesome (and not so awesome) LEGO fan made concepts, take this for example...
The "Rabbit of Caerbannog" playset is a tribute to the classic movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table are led to the Cave of Caerbannog by Tim the Enchanter, and find that they must face down its guardian beast.
• Includes 4 minifigures: Tim the Enchanter, King Arthur, Sir Bors and Sir Robin (but could also include all the Knights of the Round Table too) • Includes the mighty beast of Caerbannog ("What? Behind the rabbit?")
• Let Sir Bors attack the rabbit ("One rabbit stew coming right up!") • Make a frontal attack. You know how it ends... ("Run away, run away!")
Other sets planned:
Spoiler:
1. The French: the first stop on the search for the holy grail is the French-controlled castle. Let the French insult the so-called Ah-thoor Keeng!
• Includes 4 minifigs: King Arthur, Sir Galahad, Sir Lancelot and the French Taunter. • Includes a catapult. And a cow... And goats, chickens, pigs, enough livestock to make any attacking army retreat. • Includes a sound brick with random taunts.
2. The Trojan Rabbit: an extension kit for the "The French" set.
Follow Sir Bedevere's cunning plan: let the French toll the trojan rabbit into the castle, wait for the night, sneak out, defeat the french and realize that you forgot to hide inside the rabbit in the first place.
• Includes 2 minifigures: Sir Bedevere and Sir Lancelot • Includes the trojan rabbit with a secret door (it won't be used though)
3. The Black Knight: this set depicts the scene with the black knight who guards the bridge (well, a short plank of wood) over a small stream. Will he let King Arthur pass?
• Includes 3 minifigures with weapons: King Arthur, his squire Patsy and the fearless Black Knight • Ask the black knight to step aside so you can pass the stream ("None shall pass! I move for no man!") • Fight the black knight
4. Brave Sir Robin: this set allows you to reenact Sir Robin's journey through the dark forest of Ewing, accompanied by his favorite minstrel. Will Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot fight the three-headed knight? Of course not, he avoids the fight by running away while the heads are arguing.
• Includes 4 minifigures with weapons/accessoires: the bravely bold Sir Robin, his servant, his favorite minstrel and the three-headed knight
5. The Witch Trial: Sir Bedevere, who is so wise in the ways of science, tries to figure out if the woman brought to him by the peasants is a witch indeed.
• Includes 4 minifigures: Sir Bedevere, the alleged witch, peasant #1 and peasant #2 (who has been turned into a newt, but got better) • Includes a duck • Scales included! Is she a witch? Let "Science" decide!
6. The Knights Who Say Ni (they are also the keepers of the sacred words "Peng" and "Neee-Wom")
• Includes 4 minifigures with weapons/accessoires: King Arthur, Sir Bedevere and two knights wo say "Ni" • Includes a removable shrubbery and a herring (can be used to cut down the mightiest tree in the forest)
I'm waiting though for the Exo suits - set #006 to be released... (mid-2014 apparently)
My apologies for being absent. We had company from out-of-town and Papa Nurgle gave us all some nasty cold/flu garbage, but I think the worst is past now.
Merry Christmas Dave! glad you're on the up & up after wrestling with Nurgles minions! lets hope you can still taste/enjoy the good Christmas food! :-)
merrrrrrry Christmas Dave and Laurie and jujubeans!...
i hope you are back to health? what´s on the menu? on days like this i expect some intriguing delicacies from you... where is the meal shot?...or is it chicken soup still?...hmmm....
our Christmas festivities are already over...the kids really enjoyed their jabbas palace presents...(they actually expected playmobil...but i am atm dead against more playmobil...of course more lego NEVER hurts )
i plan to be online now again more frequent... i have left dakka all alone for way too long...the receding traffic speaks volumes...
I think Powerage is my favorite album though it has no #1 hits on it. Such a complete effort. Probably helped that Scott was going through a divorce when he wrote it. Women who done you wrong make such great inspiration.
Heh..I didn't eat much Vik. Still blowing my nose and coughing a lot. Mom's sugar cookies sure tasted good with their cream cheese frosting though I'm just finishing some Christmas Eve medicinal whiskey and trotting off to bed. Merry Christmas everybody!
Hope your feeling better today, sure that the holiday whiskey helped to warm you up . Hope juju doesn't attack Santa coming down the chimney, or eat his cookies .
Hey Dave, I may have a little Christmas present for you if you're interested? ....
want a clue?................. it's round......
Just happened to find it today in amongst some stuff at my parents place, I remembered we had it as I used to listen to this and MJ's 'Bad' album many years ago! so i went looking when we went for Christmas/Boxing day lunch!
Oy! That's EXACTLY what I was talking about! beautiful!! Absolutely interested!!
Thanks for all the well-wishes guys! It turns out I wasn't halfway done. Christmas eve, I coughed so much, I ended up with laryngitis on top of everything. So the fevers are gone, but I can't talk! We spent Christmas day napping and watching Mel Brooks movies. Do you know how much it sucks to not be able to laugh at Young Frankenstein?
Heh Theo..not as long as I can type I still have many more naps in my future before I've kicked this though. I don't ever remember being this sick before! The occasional cough still hurts like a mother though.
@Graven- Did you get the MoFi (Original Master recording?) That's awesome! I still have my old copy (in partied-with condition ) I only need a clean copy of Highway to Hell to finish out my Bon Scott collection and Blow Up Your Video and newer for the Brian Johnson years.
Bean says hello
Automatically Appended Next Post: A Page ago, Ruglud was talking about LEGO Cuusoo- Ladygeek got me this gem for Christmas
Dude that B2TF Lego is awesome! you are one lucky sick voiceless man! I am totally gonna go and hunt one down for myself now!
TNT....Oi....Oi I'll send it out to you in the new year my friend! if I can make someone smile and help a collector then it's yours! it's still in perfect condition too so you'll appreciate it as I know you're kind of a perfectionist like I mentioned!.... Merry Christmas to you! spin it for me and try and learn to say G'day!
That's awesome Damo! I can tell! no scratches on the wax, just a few on the label where someone was (blindly or drunkedly) feeling for the spindle hole I'll TOTALLY appreciate it dude!
Tonight, my bass voice is mostly back, so I have to talk like John Wayne
Awesome Cussoo BTTF Delorean Dave, my boy also got the model from his grandparents - got put together on Christmas Day and played with every day since He also got the Lego Batman / Twoface set (batmobile in that one) and the Batboat. Santa brought him the Lego Grand Emporium (to go with his Palace Cinema), a huge set that took both kids most of the day to build...
My son specializes in the Lego city sets. He has an army of police trucks and fire engines. For one Lego city they have five police departments now . He also got some glowing light bricks that he's crazy about.
Silly briancj, Detroit can't afford police officers they just give out old uniforms before Halloween to try and discourage the devils night activities.
LEGO City is definitely a Police State! -You can buy all the Municipal sets at any Wal-Mart or TRU, but you can only get the Civilian buildings exclusively from LEGO stores for some reason
My modulars are the crown jewels of my collection too!
Nice pic Dave, we've got the fore-mentioned Emporium and Cinema, plus the pet store with house... Next on the list is the town hall - maybe next Christmas? Although the Parisian Restaurant may jump above on the want list - the scenic back is awesome, that's got to be one of the best they've done...
I was in the Lego store here in Glasgow yesterday (yes, I was perplexed that we had one too). Damn those prices! The whole thing kind of stuck me as a little odd however. I recall just having a big bag of random pieces as a child as opposed to pre defined kits (maybe the bag started out as those...). Still, for a child nowadays to get together such a bag would be a bit difficult considering the price that kits go for now. However I do seem to recall a friend of mine asking for lego for his birthday a few years ago and winding up with a similar bag as to what I had. Then again I think people were just providing him with their old stuff.
Oh, he's a twenty eight year old barman btw. He didn't show up for work for a couple of days after we bought him all those blocks.
Nice collection, Dave. If Ladygeek has even more, your house must be Lego-tastic.
I had very few actual Lego kits as a child (got a few technik ones as I got older) but I did have a huge drawer full of random Lego pieces. That's one advantage of having two older brothers...
I got mine and my older brothers. As kids that's all he wanted, now he isn't married, and doesn't have any kids so they are all my sons now. The one thing I can't find that we used to have is the old Lego technics people. They were about four inches tall if I remember correctly and had spots to attach the Lego to like the old toys centurions. They would be awesome now to make dread knights.
Yep. Those technic people didn't last long for some reason.
The thing is, Lego always at least holds its retail price as a set on the secondhand market, and often even more when resold per piece. And it's still better value than gw stuff
Ah Cricket talk :-)............ hate it! hate cricket don't understand it but all i know is we're beating the Poms! so it's got something going for it at the moment lol! nothing beats some friendly intercontinental rivalry!
question for the League, if (lets say) I wanted to replace the underside and tracks of a Space marine rhino with...Oh,..... a remote controled tank, what size tank scale should I get (or whoever crazy fool wants to remote control a rhino...)
that ios a cool idea nerdy...hmmm....I recently got me a set of 1:16 scale tracks...you defnitly don´t want these... way too wide... so I guess either 1.48 or 1:35...
I'll check out some 1:35 and see how it goes then, doesn't have to be perfect just a cool idea for fun when i'm not having fun and i want to have some fun with something fun!?

Yeah that Lego LR is simply a joy to watch! a real labor of love from someone very clever! :-) a little past me thinking about slapping a rhino chasis over some cheap wheels and chasing the dogs with it making pew pew noises!
Wyrmalla wrote: Still, for a child nowadays to get together such a bag would be a bit difficult considering the price that kits go for now.
I have two 35 gallon garbage bags full of loose pieces. One Legos, one Bionicles.
The boxes under my bed are filled with lego and bionicles... every time we have a clear-out and family offers to throw it away I fight tooth and nail for it

never know when it'll come in handy...
When I get to vegas I will be sorting them out into bins for easy perusal and inspection. Lots of sets it takes to fill two 35 gallon bags it does......

Haha do what you want with your LEGO, mine are sacred!
Happy New Year everyone! I am obliged to share with you a picture of my New Year's Brisket!
Since my Briskets are sort of a tradition around here whether you like them or not This was my best one yet!
Absolutely! Although The Brisket is now gone, but fear not..I bought a 7 pounder and froze the other half for another time All I need is six hours to cook it
I want your brisket! I want to stand in a bucket and rub your brisket over me like a bar of meat fragranced soap! then wash my beard with the brisket juices caught in the bucket before eating the brisket with careless abandon! not caring if any gets caught in my teeth or slides down my naked body!
nerdfest09 wrote: I want your brisket! when did you have LDD over.... that's like one of his posts... (shudder) but yes that brisket does look proper tasty.
I'm no potato man, but I like these. The texture looks as if they're as fresh as they can be. And the brisket is as tasty looking as ever...good to see your stomach is finally again providing us with such delicacies
Happy new year to you and your two damsels!
And nerdy is now official re baptised as naughtfest09...even your hellsak couldn't achive that...
Heh..Thanks Vik! And Happy New Year to you and your family too! I never understood why people peeled potatoes....All the vitamins and flavor is in the skins IMHO.
Don't knock Nerdy's..."urges" until you touch it with a fork and it just falls apart. I cook it with a rack in the pan, fat-side up, with 2 bottles of Hard Cider in the bottom. Ladygeek then takes what is left of the cider and the fat drippings and makes a killer gravy...Seriously, this sauce should win awards.
to make a good gravy is an art in itself!...in big professional kitchens all around the world there are special cooks just for that job...
and indeed... the skins of any veggies and fruits is something that should never be wasted... it is something nowadays that peeps skin cucumbers... they could as well drink from the tab ...would be quicker and would amount to the same
That's the part of the movie I always have to get up and get drinks for myself (and friends) when watching. Can't stand watching it, but I can listen to it.
i bet....some sorts of meat just aren´t right to be served in any form... you need it the right way...(it was an innocent post...but with nerdy doing what he does best...good deeds get warped....)
dunno.... if non plastic thoughts posted here gets alpharius to post pics of scarlett johansson.... then I am tempted to tempt him to post some more ...
Yeah! But it would be two dimensional supported by plastic I-beams , although that could look like a great habitat . Think HOLLYWOOD sign, but looks like warhound titans . Set that up outside your enemies camp at night then wake them up with blaring war horns and a few explosions.
i think ill just enjoy my 69 degree weather and run around in shorts and a tank top thank you kindly.
on a more serious note i hope every one is safe and not snowed in too hard core i have family up that way and saw on their fb how deep the snow is...but yea take care and if your beer gets hot just leave it in the snow for 15 mins you should be fine.
Whoah! that snow looks amazing Dave! it seems like only yesterday you had photo ops in the backyard with Rivet (Bean) on a nice balmy day! and now it's just beautiful!
Ugh...Today it's -12° F (-24° C)and I am digging the driveway out (very slowly) from the 2 foot drifts. It's getting colder too! They say it's supposed to get down to
-20° I went to open the rear passenger door of my car and the door handle broke clean off in my hand! Better than the driver's door though
I think I'll stay inside and listen to some Otis Redding and Sam & Dave and do something at my workbench! (Sorry Max..no Space Wolves for me )
Automatically Appended Next Post: Look! I still remember how to model!!!
Well, clipping, filing, and gluing anyways It's Page 160.....Time to get back to what this thread was intended for!
Not exciting, but there isn't much to do while waiting on primer to dry, so I took a picture
I do recall the coldest I was in was back in Germany 1984-85, -70 from a Siberian front that settled over us, the summer grade diesel in the trucks looking like matzoh ball soup as the paraffin congealed into balls in the fuel tanks, we had to get one truck started with additivie, and hook hoses to the exhaust to heat the next truck, and so on and so forth and kept the trucks running to keep them warmed up! ice formed between my leather and rubber boots.
Yeah for real Vik! Too much plastic in critical car components like that. It was frozen and just broke right off! My only complaint about my Kia in 6 years of ownership, It happened once before too.
Yeah, it's covered. My Driver's side handle came off last winter That sucked, having to wait for Ladygeek to open it from the inside while we waited for the part to arrive.
The weather had nothing to do with it, Dave has just been flexing his hobby muscles recently in order to tackle Gandalf and the hobbits. The car just couldn't handle the super dave kungfu action grip.

LOL! As we know Chuck Norris is getting long in the tooth, a new challenger appears!
Nice rough broken edges...one can clearly see where it broke... It is of course known that cold can do this, but Iwas not rreferring to natural cold...damn that is almost ridiculous....nature shouldn't be allowed to this to us...
And shaso? that's an interesting figure of speech...I haven't come across this yet...what does it mean and where does it come from?

Just like rodents, horses teeth continue to grow with age, s the bigger the teeth the older they are. Their teeth do wear down though, so as long as they aren't chewing on hard stuff hey will have big old vampire teeth after time .
Haha I still think it's funny that Vik, hearing Chuck Norris' voice dubbed into German his whole life first heard Chuck's real voice and it was less than impressive.
probably...tho...in the second instalment of the expendables he made quite a good figure of himself......if you never played WOW then you haven´t heard all those chick Norris jokes you need to know^^...
it is a bit like the jokes you´ ve heard your father make...they needn't had to be that funny... just him making them was the crucial point (I speak generally here) so a joke about CN is not about an infamous bad acting...er...actor...but about it being about him...ach...heck...
Oh c'mon, no one in America takes David Hasselhoff seriously, but in Germany, well, over there he is like Elvis used to be here, da King or as better known, Der Hoff!
