Edit: Changing the title to Discussion Thread since the game has been out for some time now.
I played the hell out of the original Borderlands. That game was awesome on so many levels, especially the General Knoxx DLC. Probably my favorite game of the past few years, INCLUDING the Mass Effect series.
With the sequel on the cusp of release, I'm definitely looking forward to stepping back into that franchise. Is anyone else a Borderlands fan?
Absolutely zero interest in it. First game was a let down and exceedingly boring, and when I saw how they said they were doing something special for pc gamers, and that meant giving you video options that games have had since forever, all I could do was shake my head as people cheered.
Kanluwen wrote: I wasn't actually a big fan of the first one, but I'm quite anxious for 2.
Also Ald...I've called dibs on Axton, but Eddie refuses to respect the dibs!
I refuse to respect the dibs as well. I'll play whatever class I damn well please. Fortunately for you, I was a fan of the Siren in the first one (I could solo Crawmerax! What was not to love!) so I will probably start with a Siren, though the Assassin also looks very interesting.
I won't have it on release, but I will probably have it within a week of release. My roommate is a manager for Game Stop, so she gets it for free, but it usually takes a few days for that to happen.
Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the first one?
I was planning on doing different playthroughs for different characters, but starting with Axton or potentially Zer0.
Most likely Axton though, because who doesn't love turrets?
And honestly, with the first one I felt that I came into the game far too late to really enjoy it, as I started playing when Knoxx's Secret Armory came out.
Kanluwen wrote: Dagnabbit, how dare you both disrespect the dibs!
Meh, I plan to play the single player through at least once before I start playing multi. That's how I did it in BL1 and it worked well, since I could bring a character in with a few trash guns that sell for insane prices and hand them over to the low level characters to get money
Kanluwen wrote: I was planning on doing different playthroughs for different characters, but starting with Axton or potentially Zer0.
I'll be doing the same thing. I want to have one of each character at max level before any DLC releases. If Mackie ends up getting the game though we should have a 4 person party for online play, but I don't know if he will be getting it or not. That depends on his available funds. He and I did a ton of co-op in the first game so I expect he will eventually get it and join us.
Kanluwen wrote: Most likely Axton though, because who doesn't love turrets?
The turret in the first game was nice. Especially if you speced it to heal. We figured that the only way to actually beat Crawmerax with a 4 person party and NOT have a Siren do all the work was to have 4 Rolands with heal turrets because they would be invincible!
Kanluwen wrote: And honestly, with the first one I felt that I came into the game far too late to really enjoy it, as I started playing when Knoxx's Secret Armory came out.
I didn't get my own copy of the game until after General Knoxx, but in all honesty that was half the reason to play. The original game was fun, but Knoxx was a thing of beauty! His dialogue was the best in the game!
Well, for me it was a MP game...where I could never play MP because people didn't want to have a lowbie along. I played a bit with SilverMK2 and Purplefood and we had fun, but it was still a case of "Eh" for me as I had to wait for them to come on to enjoy the game.
Also:
I plan on going Gunpowder for Axton. Longbow Turret+Nuclear Explosion=Victory?
I wanted to like the first one but I just found it so dull. I tried 2 play throughs and gave up on both about 3 hours in (just after the first big boss fight IIRC).
This looks to be more of the same. If reviews are ecstatic I will get it otherwise I will wait until it is on sale.

Same.
I just dont get what the appeal of it is suppose to be.
I did not find the voices in the first one annoying in the least. In fact, the voice acting was part of the game I really enjoyed, especially Scooter, who I sincerely hope returns in this game. The character designs and the arty style are what I like most about the game. The sci-fi weaponry in what appears to be a mashup between trail-blazing old west and post-apocalyptic future. Also, I'm a sucker for games with skill trees and loot drops!
@ Kanluwen - Sounds like you are playing with the wrong people. Mackie and I liked making new characters at level 1 to play through the game with our friends who were just joining us. That way we all leveld up together and played classes that we might otherwise not have fully leveled. When we all got to the cap, we would switch to our badass characters or rotate through them to get gear for characters that still needed it. I also remember doing Crawmerax runs on my Siren to power level people who needed loot and levels. I was going to do the runs anyway, and adding a second person just increased the loot drops and the chances for better loot, so I didn't care. It was probably a little boring for a new character at first, but it only took a few kills to get them into mid level range.
Anyway, I digress. The point is, we have a new game with a new set of characters to level. I won't be playing day 1 since I will have to wait for my roommate to get her copy, but I will be playing soon enough.
@Nechroshea - I'm glad you have been enlightened. Care to alter your opinion now? Just messing around, its cool that you don't like children, I mean borderlands 2.
But really, I suggest giving it one more look, because unless you are really opposed to the whole premise of the first game, then you might like the second one better, since it really is (from my personal hands-on experience) a much improved version on every level.
I've just preordered this I managed to get my university reasing list down to £35 from the £230 prediction given to me by amazon, so I decided that I could put up with not drinking or eating out for the next 2 weeks to pay for it. Kanluwen wrote: The Mechromancer will become available to you, free, when it is released.
It was not finished by release.
I know that, it comes out in October, but it does unlock the mechromancer, and I haven't finished the first yet, and by the time I do, the mechromancer will likely have been released.
Even without her I can't decide anyway.

Got the game today and I am somewhat unimpressed. Don't get me wrong though, the game looks and plays very well. But I am not finding myself enjoying it, I dunno what I was expecting really.
The game's pretty fun, been playing it solo before i start the co-op. Picked the assasin on impulse but i regret it as the shotguns and snipers are less fun than i thought they'd be.
Perkustin wrote: The game's pretty fun, been playing it solo before i start the co-op. Picked the assasin on impulse but i regret it as the shotguns and snipers are less fun than i thought they'd be.
The Sniper tree does not really shine on Zer0 until later on.
Axton's Gunpowder tree suffers from the same issue.
Have been having the most fun with the pistols. Really wanted to use stealth + shotgun but i can only see a couple perks later on that might be useful (i think there's a 'backstab' style one and a Vanguard biotic charge thingy). It's still servicable but defo not a very efficinet way to play.
Also - in case people missed it, you do not need to have 5 per tier to unlock abilities, you need to have spent five, per tier unlocked, to unlock abilities.
Which is to say - if you put 10 points into tier one abilities, tier three abilities are available without choosing any from tier two.
I missed that for too long, in case anyone else did as well.

I'm in the cunning tree mostly, but what I normally do is iron sights with a pistol until either my shield dies, I need to move to a better piece of cover or an enemy gets in melee range/enemy is a Badass. From there I pop stealth and move to a new location if it's one of the first two, or if it's the third situation, I equip my shotgun, sneak behind the enemy and hit them in the backside with the shotgun. With 5 points in ambush and Kunai knives handing out Deathmarks to the enemy, When I fire the shotgun, something dies.
Dropped a Badass Goliath in one shot from the shotty using that tactic.
Has anyone else noticed that there's no decapitation?
I've been popping heads with a high powered sniper rifle, and despite there being meat chunks flying everywhere, the targets' craniums were still very much intact.
Got the game last night and I'm playing through as Zer0 to start. I'm only level 6 so I don't have many skills yet. I had a lot of difficulty with Captain Flynt because the only reasonable pistol I had did flaming damage (so it was useless on the fire boss), and my other weapon was a rifle that didn't seem to do much damage either. Took me 4 deaths to put him down because every time he would knock me down it would be out of sight of an enemy, leaving me unable to get a second wind. I forgot just how much low levels sucked to play solo in the first game!

Really? I found it to be fairly easy. You just have to cloak alot to give yourself some breathing room.
Also, the shotgun is your friend. Especially Jacob's.
Yeah that's part of the problem. I haven't found a shotgun that has more than one round in the chamber with a long reload time. It 1 shots enemies, but I can't really do anything while the weapon reloads for 4 seconds, so I get eaten alive. Once I find a decent shotgun with a reasonable clip size I should have an easier time.
Also, I intend to go sniper on this character, which I realize does not really shine until later levels, but I like the look of the tree.

Really? I keep finding shotguns with 3 rounds, giving me about 2 shots before reloading.
Sure, it's risky, but it can 1 hit kill most enemies. Especially if you use decoy.
I'm running Zero atm, hoping that if I play with friends I can rock Maya in either her support role, or in the blow everything sky high role
Zero is a challenge atm, because I'm putting my skill points into the Bloodshed Tree, opting for the melee stealth beast (I wish he had an option of just melee lol, and my right trigger would swing the sword instead of firing the gun).
I had some issues with Doc Mercy, but only because I had to get closer to him to stab/shoot from behind so instead, I kited him back to my vehicle, took out most of his health with the vehicle and then got out and shot him up with my sniper rifle lol
I'm having fun, but I wish I had others to play with :(
I found a bandit shotgun with 50x10 damage and some bonus electricy-ness, suffice it to say my shotgun assasin is coming along nicely . Got a 'nova' shield at the end of my session, any good? Thinking it could come in handy.
The most difficult things for me so far have been 'badass psychos' (they have a ground pound that they use on my decoy which makes it hard to shotgun them) and the 'assasinate assasins mission' i died rather alot on the last guy.
Tbh my main gripe with the game is how little difference the skill tree makes early on, i am level 12 and aside from a steadier aim i have less bonuses to my stats than i get from some 'class mod' i found in a chest early on.
Perkustin wrote: Tbh my main gripe with the game is how little difference the skill tree makes early on
That is not true at all, it just depends on the skill tree you go with. Having the health regen for Axton when his shield is at 100% is obscenely useful.
I'm kind of with Perkustin atm... I'm level 10, and my melee damage has some bonus to it, so I rarely notice any buff, but the health bonus that I have has made the difference in some of the fights...
OK, here's what I don't get.
The reanimation thingies, you know, the machines that resurrect you, are part of the hyperion corporation.
The Hyperion corporation is your enemy.
So how come Jack doesn't just say; "you know what, let's unplug them all. There are only savages down there anyway."
Doesn't make much sense.
I get that it's for game play reasons and all, but still, it's strange.
Also, feth Zer0 solo play in the butt... I'm getting 1 shot against mad mike...
I hate Zer0 I really do... I actually managed to down Mad Mike 1 second before I would ahve died and got a second wind, only to be killed by a fething grenade... feth this class..
illuknisaa wrote: How many guns are there? The last game had like only 7 guns and it was a little disappointing.
Pretty much the same. The 87 bajillion guns line is a bit of lie.
More like, 87 bajillion variations of the same gun, but with slightly different stats.
Not any different from most RPGs, really.
There are pistols, sub-machine guns, assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and launchers.
Then you have the manufacturers of the guns:
Dahl - Low recoil, Burst fire when zoomed
Bandit - larger magazines
Hyperion - Negative recoil, higher accuracy
Jakob's - High damage, fire as fast as you can pull the trigger (you can unload these faster than many of the auto guns), never elemental
Maliwan - always elemental
Torgue - Explosive ammo
Tediore - gun turns into a grenade when you reload it
Vladof - high rate of fire, rate of fire increases the longer you hold the trigger down
Then there are the elements:
Shock
Fire
Corrosive
Slag
I haven't had any problems with Zero and most bosses, but I probably don't play him right. I run around with my exploding assault rifle and blow everything to bits. And I found a nice bust fire sniper rifle. I don't let anything get close, if it does I'll do the hologram thingy and run away, then finish em off from a distance while they're distracted.
I haven't really tried melee though, but I don't really melee anything at all unless something wimpy is in my face and I don't want to waste ammo on it.
The commando is probably more my style, but I don't want to start over now.
So ive been looking into this and am considering buying it soon. However I cant decide if I want to play as Zero or Axton. Zero looks the coolest and is good with snipers (which are my favourite weapon) however my usual tactic is playing as a Tank and shooting stuff with marksman rifles at mid-long range. For this I think axton would be better but I have never liked spawning turrets.
The difference in the weapons is the way they fire. I'm not sure if any of the old weapon types made it into the second game, but an example from the first game would be a Thumper and an Anarchy. Both are SMG's, but a Thumper has a slow rate of fire with high bullet damage, while an Anarchy fires multiple shots per bullet (2-4 shots). Both had their uses, and both were capable of being very effective, but they were effective in different ways. And then there were variations on the same gun. There was an orange quality SMG called a Hellfire that had almost a 100% chance to ignite enemies, and so it was extremely useful on a Siren, but the thing is, they could spawn as Thumpers or standard SMG's. The Thumper versions were near useless, while the higher ROF versions were extremely useful.
Another example is a Repeater and a Revolver. Both are pistols, but both work very differently and both can be used on different builds to excellent effect.
I'd say there are more variations on the different guns in this game, but it's impossible to make a game where the guns don't basically boil down to several common archetypes like Pistols, SMG's, Rifles, Snipers, Shotguns and Launchers. I suppose you could re-invent the wheel and come up with a few totally new types of guns, but it's hard to do that on a consistent basis.
It lets you spawn your turret via Longbow technology. Longbow technology is tech which "teleports" an item from one place to another while ignoring the intervening terrain.
His end ability for "Gunpowder"?
It's called 'Nuke'.
Not like "Oh, he calls in a nuke!". Like every time you deploy your turret it sets off a nuclear explosion. It is absolutely freaking hilarious, especially given that you will be deploying it via Longbow.
With "Gunpowder", you deploy the turret into the center of the action while you stay back and plink with a Rocket Launcher (which you get bonus damage for! Yay!) or Assault Rifle (which you get bonus damage, faster reload times, and larger magazine sizes for! yay!).
His "Guerilla" tree is centered around him using the turret to cover/suppress enemies while he runs up and blows them apart with grenades(which he can get the most of in the game, with 18 providing you get lucky and get a +5 Grenade Capacity Relic. Otherwise you'll have 16 max), gunfire, and sometimes his hatchet. He's also reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally survivable in this tree because of an ability which makes it so he constantly regenerates 2% of his HP whenever he (or his turret!) deal damage to an enemy.
Not "kill", just "deal damage".
His end talent here is "Double Up"...which adds a second gun to your turret. Via Guerilla, your turret will be a freaking monster with Multiple Rocket Pods, double MGs, and the ability to constantly apply the "Slag" effect to targets. "Slag" means that enemies will constantly be taking crit damage...so they die fast.
Survival is not really that fun for me, but it's a support tree. Your turret generates a force field which deflects enemy damage while allowing you (and your teammates!) to shoot from within unimpeded. Don't throw grenades though...they don't go through unless they're Longbow grenades.
The end talent here is "Gemini", allowing you to deploy 2x turrets simultaneously. With the force fields and "Mag Lock" ability in the tree(Mag Lock allows you to deploy your turrets anywhere. From the walls, ceilings, or even stuck to the top of a moving vehicle...) you'll have some interesting ways to hold down firezones for your team.

That is true. And even with all that, it’s no different from the weapon system in Diablo, such as the angry axe of shocking, or the sharp sword of poison, or something like that. I have to say though, the weapons are a lot more varied than in borderlands 2 thanks to those manufacturer traits, and the purple and orange class of weapons certainly look unique. But still, the claim of 87 bajillion weapons is a bit of a lie. Not saying its a bad game, just that its a bit of a weak thing to boast about, really.
Kanluwen wrote: If you really thought that there would be "87 bajillion guns"...I don't know what to say to you.
Bajillion isn't even a real number! And it was part of an ad which also featured "96.5% more Wub Wub". And the claim you'll "joypuke your face off".
I know that. I knew very well they meant a "hell lot of guns" And that is true...sort of. If a small change in the rate of fire or an extra point of damage makes it a whole new weapon. As I said, its no different from diablo, so as a marketing point its a bit dodgey.

Except it's not.
The difference between a Dahl SMG and a Hyperion SMG is significant. The difference between a Vladof AR with the minigun barrel and a Torgue AR with the minigun barrel is staggering.
And let's not forget Tediore, the one gun type which rewards you for reloading early and often by being an extra grenade and dealing damage based upon how many rounds are in the clip.
Each manufacturer encourages a different playstyle and works differently on each of the characters. When I play Axton in his Guerilla spec with a Dahl SMG and my Hyperion sniper rifle, it is a very different playstyle to the same character in his Gunpowder spec with the same weapons.

Wait, where did you find a Torque minigun? I didn't even know that existed.
Anyway, I just have a different view of the game. I really felt no difference between the guns (with the exceptions of the manufacturers. I think giving them different traits was an excellent idea, and certainly added some variety), except for damage output and rate of fire.
Although the Torque series of weapons are pretty interesting. Its like being a Space Marine ^^
Maliwan also gets a special mention for having all elemental weapons, and for a cool sniper rifle reload animation.

Minor differences in dps does not make a new gun. It's like saying that minigun from UT99 is totally different than stinger from UT3.
Almost every weapon you will find, barring named Legendaries/blues/purples with red text("lore items") will have randomized characteristics.
Torgue assault rifles can, just like Vladof assault rifles and Dahl assault rifles and even Jakobs assault rifles, have the "minigun" styled barrel and ammo capacities.

Sorry, where did I say that?
Tediore weapons are disposable. You do not actually fire those guns that often, you're firing a few shots before reloading and throwing them at the enemy as a grenade.
Hyperion weapons encourage you to continually fire, as their accuracy/stability improves with repeat fire.
Dahl weapons are naturally the most stable with the best recoil, but all fire in 3 round bursts.
Maliwan weapons each have a different elemental characteristic, meaning that you will actually encounter some enemies at some point which will outright resist your weapon damage meaning you have to swap guns or change up your playstyle accordingly.
Vladof weapons have okay accuracy, okay recoil, but fire faster the longer the trigger is held down. Many of their weapons also have a "reduced ammunition usage" trait meaning you fire longer, which is a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly good thing for Vladof Rocket Launchers.
Jakobs weapons fire each time you pull the trigger, and fire as fast as you pull the trigger. They're lever actions for the most part, and comprise guns like Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols, and Assault Rifles.
And that's not even counting E-tech guns, which can be any of the manufacturers/weapon types, and instead of dealing normal weapon damage instead deal energy weapon damage.
Buddy of mine found a three-barrelled Jakob's minigun.
Suffice to say, he was a bit disappointed at the prospect of having to pull the trigger for each and every shot. Kinda defeats the purpose, but I thought it was hilarious.

Maliwan - always elemental
Torgue - Explosive ammo
Tediore - gun turns into a grenade when you reload it
Vladof - high rate of fire, rate of fire increases the longer you hold the trigger down
Then there are the elements:
Shock
Fire
Corrosive
Slag
And then there is is the Eridium tech guns
That is true. And even with all that, it’s no different from the weapon system in Diablo, such as the angry axe of shocking, or the sharp sword of poison, or something like that.
I have to say though, the weapons are a lot more varied than in borderlands 2 thanks to those manufacturer traits, and the purple and orange class of weapons certainly look unique.
But still, the claim of 87 bajillion weapons is a bit of a lie. Not saying its a bad game, just that its a bit of a weak thing to boast about, really.
You're upset that a game franchise which is known for its over the top shenanigans is overstating a number of available weapons? Do you know how many weapons I pass on simply because I can't carry them all? Hell, I had a Bandit gun that looked like it was 1 gun... attached to another gun..
Remember, this is the game series that gave us 9 toes (who also has 3 balls), and Boom Bewm... AND a Badass Nomad with 3 midgets strapped to his shield...

This right here. I'm not playing this game because it may or may not have 87 bajillion guns, or that they might all work slightly different. I'm playing this game to laugh my ass off at the dialogue and see all the amusing character concepts they came up with in their absurd post-apocalyptic-but-not-really-apocalyptic-mad-max-style-insanity world.
I will be satisfied with the game if it includes Scooter anywhere. I need more "smokin' jesus titty cinnamon" in my life.
Lynata wrote: Buddy of mine found a three-barrelled Jakob's minigun.
Suffice to say, he was a bit disappointed at the prospect of having to pull the trigger for each and every shot. Kinda defeats the purpose, but I thought it was hilarious.
CthuluIsSpy wrote:And that is true...sort of. If a small change in the rate of fire or an extra point of damage makes it a whole new weapon.
Isn't that how it works in just about all other games?
Oh yeah, I think I have that one. The triqueta I think its called. Mine comes with a nice celtic design.
I prefer the Heartbreaker though.
Also had trouble with 'mad mike'. Purely because he was too far away to decoy. He still died to my bandit shotgun of doom though.
Was having a satisfying time using a hyperion pistol against lower leveled guys, seeing all the 'critical's flash up is quite enjoyable. Shame i am simply too fragile to use it all the time.
The side mission with the AI core was also pretty funny.

Oh yeah, that mission is great.
I love how he tried to drive everyone to commit suicide after he integrated himself into the radio.
The shotgun you get afterwards is pretty neat as well.
So. Who has gotten the Legendary gun off the Assassins?
You know..."Flying Emperor". The gun with the special flavor text of "You know...for Him." and which has a 1:5 chance to fire skulls?
Which quest? I don't recall seeing that effect on the wiki.
Also, a bit of a spoiler here, but
Spoiler:
Why didn't roland just use a new-u machine after getting shot? I mean, he used it before in Borderlands 1 (assumingly)
[spoiler] He may have removed his data from the New U machine to keep Hyperion from tracking him.
Huh, that does make sense. Still, some more info would be nice.
They should make a DLC or something that explains how its possible for someone to die if there are new you machines around.
Oh course, it will have to involve shenanigans. Like clone armies of main characters who have died (permanently) in the game.
Can you imagine fighting an Army of Rolands? That would be weird.
Iur_tae_mont wrote: I remember in the first one, you had to be scanned into the system. That was like the first quest.
I thought everyone got scanned? I mean, it is a fairly easy process. Then again, you do need money for the process to work. Does the Sheriff respawn after you kill her?

Don't you see? He died in a dramatically appropriate fashion during a cutscene! There's no coming back after that!
I loved that they actually made a joke about Jack never being able to kill you permanently - there's a sidequest in Eridium Blight where Jack tells you to go kill yourself by jumping off a cliff. If you do it, you just respawn, finish the quest, and collect a couple of Eridium from him.
Actually I like to look at the New-U stations representing Jack's EXTREME confidence of him beating you into submission. Sure, I'll let them be digitally reconstructed once they've been killed by bandits, they still ain't stopping me, isn't that right butt stallion?

Butt then you have the quest where he pays you to kill yourself.
The Siren is absolutely disgusting in this game. I heard somewhere that the internet was considering her the weakest character...how?! She can trap bosses and walk up to them and shotgun them in the face, without repercussion, all the while doing flaming (and later poison/electric) damage to them from the bubble. Yeah...weak character my ass...
I also found an orange pistol with her that's worth $2500-3000 at level 20, that has a high zoom and poison damage as well as its normal 195x2 damage. Did I mention it had a magazine of 195? Yeah, no need to reload THAT...Oh, and I FOUND that, it wasn't a hack. Also, very fast firing rate.

The Infinity. A Vladof pistol which actually fires in an "infinity" pattern if you look closely enough at it.
The orange grenade mod which Iur_Tae_Mont mentions as well is the single best grenade in the game.
It's a MIRV which MIRVs and in turn MIRVs again. I'm running a Grenadier build for Axton, and I carry 16 of those buggers.
The final boss, when I'm properly Grenadier spec'd and not Gunpowder like I was when farming him yesterday with Soladrin/Chowderhead is a joke.

For his own amusement!
I'm not that far yet lol, I'm still trying to rescue Roland... Zer0 sucks at lower levels...
If you think about it, the presence of New-U machines could be why everything is so violent on Pandora.
If killing and dying has no true consequence, then why hesitate? That would explain the blood lust that is present with most characters.
Of course, there are always some who takes it too far...and it still doesn't explain why they only work some of the time.
Maybe the "permanently" dead characters had empty wallets when they died, I dunno.

Yeah, its very rare.
In order to get level 2 badass rank for finding orange items, you have to find at least 3-4. That's how rare they are.
You do get one for one of Lilith's side quests though.
When do eridium weapons show up? The only one I've found was on Dr.Zed's sidequest, the one with Doc Mercy.

Both Eridium and Oranges are exceedingly rare, unfortunately. I went through an entire playthrough without finding a single one of either (granted, it was on playthrough 1, but still) outside of quest rewards/items.
I found me an orange gun on the skooter's girlfriend quest in the fridge. it's a corrosive pistol that shoots 2 bullets at a time. Really tears stuff up too.
Well, I killed the Sheriff, and the message from Jack implies she's dead for good. So yeah, the New-U machines sometimes work it seems. When they feel like it.
Anyone else found the Fibber? That pistol is hilarious
How come the Fibber is hilarious you mean? Because it lies like a bastard. Here are some of it's stats (randomly generated, yours might be different) :
Clip Size : 62 Damage : 258
Deals +3000% damage gives 50% love Would I lie to you
It actually fires a cluster of 4 bullets, each doing about 500 damage (I think). Its clip size is 13.
Another fun weapon is the morningstar, a weapon that Hyperion custom built for you. Its a sniper rifle that berates you whenever you reload or score a critical kill. Some of its lines include "Great Shot, Murderer!", "He could have been raised in a broken home!", "Oh great, now you're wasting ammo!" I sold it. I found better rifles that weren't as aggravating.
CthuluIsSpy wrote: I think I'm in love with Moxxi. She gives you such awesome guns ^^
Never given me a one. ><
Pay her $15000 in tips. She'll give you a purple rarity SMG that matches your current level.
There are also 3 sidequests where you'll get a unique weapon from her.
1) The first one that will be available is from Marcus. He'll send you to retrieve the contents of a chest from some bandits. If you choose to give the contents to Moxxi, she'll give you a kickass unique shotgun, with incendiary ammo.
2) The second is from Mordecai. If you give the booze that you collected for the quest to Moxxi, she'll give you her personal sidearm. I can't tell you about it though since I gave the booze to Mordecai...because I'm a dumbass.
3) The third quest is from Moxxi herself, and she wants you to sabotage Jack's construction projects. Do so, and she gives you a homing incendiary grenade that homes in on a enemy, deals fire damage, explodes dealing fire damage to anyone close by AND it steals life.
As I said, I love Moxxi. She gives such great weapons, and she's a pretty fun character ^^

The first part, I can't wait for. The second I agree with. She was great in the first too.
I did the dirty pics quest and I wanted to check both to see what I would get. I hit marcus first, and then canceled to go check out Moxxi's reward, but it was too late :( even though I didn't turn it in yet, all I had to do is hit the talk button and my choice was made :/

Yeah, I figured that out the hard way too, except it was with Mordecai's quest.
I thought they would let me see what the reward was first, but it turns out you can't do that when you have to choose between people.
That's not even the most "emotional" moment of the game.
You'll know the part when your rage reaches maximum with Handsome Jack. And it won't be because he let Butt Stallion die.
When did that happen? I just beat the game, and I didn't see anything like that.
Also, did anyone else find the exploit during the Warrior boss fight? It becomes so easy to beat him once you figure it out.
This game is beginning to irritate me. It's clearly designed to be multiplayer, to the point where the single player is annoyingly difficult.
-Cover is useless. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the cover mechanics in Mass Effect, but there is no way to use cover effectively. You can't fire from behind cover without completely exposing yourself, and if you do take cover, most times the mobs you are fighting rush your position. This was no better in the first game but the AI was not as vicious about it.
-Friendly fire from grenades is realistic, but stupid considering the bounce mechanics. I can't count how many times I've tossed a grenade only to have a charging psycho bounce it off his head back toward me. Add to that the sheer number of suicide psychos I've run into in tight spaces where it's nearly impossible to avoid them and throwing grenades just adds to the number of ways you can be killed by explosives.
-BARRELS! BARRELS FREAKING EVERYWHERE! There were not nearly this many barrels in the first game. It seems like when the designers said there would be 87 bajillion guns, they meant 87 bajillion explosive/fire/corrosive/shock/slag barrels for those guns to destroy accidentally while you are standing right next to them. I literally ran out of SMG ammo just shooting barrels on one mission, simply so I could not be killed by them later.
-Enemy bosses with impenetrable tower shields, guns that light you on fire and the ability to throw grenades that 1 shot you from any distance and heal them are an example of how the designers didn't take solo play into account when balancing encounters. I shouldn't be REQUIRED to lure the boss outside his lair and 3 shot him point blank with a shotgun in order to avoid him killing me almost instantaneously in return.
Don't get me wrong. I find the story and the dialogue amusing, and for the most part I am enjoying the game, but I'm disappointed by the fact that you are punished for wanting to play through the campaign by yourself without having to coordinate play time with other people. If the first game had been this annoyingly difficult I likely would not have finished it. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have died no less than 10 times on every "boss" fight so far, and I'm only level 10. Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm playing Zero. Admittedly, I'm starting out with the Sniper tree, which is fine because I have an excellent sniper rifle, but it doesn't really get good until later on. Perhaps if I was playing one of the other trees it wouldn't be so annoying. To be fair though, I only have my action skill and 5 more points, so I find it hard to believe that would make much difference anywhere else.
Edit: On a more positive note, one thing I am pleased about is that they seem to have gotten rid of weapon skills. That was an annoying part of the first game that I am glad to see go. If I start out using Pistols and find an awesome Sniper Rifle, I don't have to go through a painful period of skilling up with the weapon before it's effective. Also, I don't have to pass on an excellent weapon that would normally be an upgrade just because it's not the type I have skill points in.

I'm currently playing Zer0 as a cunning build... we're still a little bit under powered until you reach near endgame.
I'm not even bothering to look up effective builds until I'm able to max the bottom skill in at least one tree. It won't really matter until then anyway. I'm going to guess a second playthrough will be a lot easier than the first.
You must be further than me, but my furthest character is Zero. I hide behind cover all the time to reload but yeah, you can't hide and fire at the same time. Tower shields are my bane. I have a fire shotgun I use if this comes up and I disappear wait until 0.01 and then unload in his back. Alternatively, you can throw a grenade to get them to expose themselves and then pop them with a sniper.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have died no less than 10 times on every "boss" fight so far, and I'm only level 10. Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?
I think you might be doing something wrong. Most boss fights don't allow a lot of sniping, so you have to switch tactics. Although I do have a tendency to run away and snipe them sometimes.
Have you tried a different spec or class? Maybe Sniping Zero isn't for you right now.
That's not even the most "emotional" moment of the game.

When did that happen? I just beat the game, and I didn't see anything like that.
It was a joke. I didn't want to spoil anything big.
Spoiler:
For me, the most enraging part of the game was finding out that Jack not only bound a Siren up for his own ambition...but it was his own freaking daughter. Finding the Echos in Fyrestone/Arid Nexus cemented it for me.
I was going to kill him, and it was going to hurt. To do what he did to a child is bad enough...to do it to his own child, and then have the audacity to claim that he did it because of people like my character? Oh hell no. He was going down hard.
Also, did anyone else find the exploit during the Warrior boss fight? It becomes so easy to beat him once you figure it out.
The Warrior is a joke fight anyways. It's just multiple small stages.
To be honest, the spec barely matters at this point. As I said, I have my action skill and 5 points to play with. That means I took 5 points in the zoom/stability talent, and that's all. I hardly think those 5 points spent elsewhere would make much of a difference. I could have a giant bonus to melee damage, which is kinda suicidal at this level. I could have a minor bonus to melee damage and health, which would probably be the best option at level 10. I could have a melee damage bonus after getting hit, increased reload speed and weapon swap speed, or increased critical hit damage.
Would one of the other trees be more forgiving as I level up? Should I be using Shotguns/Melee at this level and leave the Snipers at home?
I'm finding it very hard to get into BL2. BL1 was easy to slip in to, but BL2 feels a lot... I dunno how to describe it really; it might just be that I've gotten sick to death of Bullymongs a lot faster than I got sick to death of Skags in BL1.
In any case, during two gaming sessions, I've now reached level 6, whereas in BL1 I'd be about 15-20 after a single session. BL2 just seems to bore me a lot quicker.
The beginning seems to be a bit slower in BL2 than one. The one thing that I found helps out is to just blaze through the required missions and get to sanctuary. Liar's just is annoying. lol
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, levelling seems a bit slower.
Some of the trees just aren't usable until you can get the end tier talent.
Gunpowder and Survival immediately spring to mind for Axton. Guerilla is so far superior it is not funny.
From my understanding, Bloodshed is the "best" tree until you can make the others work for Zer0.
Oh, and a good way to deal with the Nomad Overlords(shield wielding goons) is to have Singularity/Homing grenades.
Singularity Grenades will suck them back and expose them to your gunfire each time the singularity detonates, as they "stagger" back and reveal themselves.
MIRVs and Sticky grenades tossed behind them work as well.

Yeah I think I'll be switching to Bloodshed the next time I play. The skills in that tree are all about massive damage and survivability which seems to complement the characters style of play well. Shotgun + Bloodshed is probably the way I will proceed from here on out, with a dip into Cunning to get Death Mark once I'm done with Bloodshed.
I played Bloodshed for awhile and switched over just as I hit level 11 or 2 (just getting past where you are now, and I had so much issue with survivability
I actually like the difficulty. Provides more of a challenge.
Well, it would have if there was actually a game over screen.
Really, the whole "the fate of Pandora rests with you!" thing is kinda pointless since you keep coming back to life.
They should have made 2 campaigns; 1 for Co-op (Standard Borderlands), and 1 modified for single player use.
Or at least have iron man mode.
The idea is to max melee damage and stay in Decoy as long as possible, and use Death Marks against anyone that I can't 1 shot with a melee and finish them off with a Shotgun.

Thoughts?
Is this for true vault hunter mode, or standard? Because I just blazed through standard mode with only the sniper skill tree.

I would say your first problem is that Borderlands 2 is not a cover-based shooter. Who are you playing as? Because honestly, I'm not having any issues playing solo (though Zer0 is ridiculously hard to play solo until later levels). Use your shields to absorb shots while you blast enemies - cover should only ever be used to block enemy fire while you're recharging shields or reloading. Try to take out enemies one at a time or, if you're using Maya, light 'em on fire with an elemental weapon and move on to the next one.
I think you're also using grenades wrong. Unless you've got a decent one, they aren't going to be much use against anything that moves (and everything does). Don't toss one at a charging psycho, you will never succeed in doing anything but hurt yourself. Toss one when you see a group of enemies clumped up. You probably won't see any of them yet, but singularity grenades are just the best mods in this game, since they yank enemies towards the grenade before exploding.
I definitely hear you about the bosses, though. Most of them are terribly hard to solo, if only because they tend to one-shot you with whatever they have. Again, though, it depends on who you're playing as - because Maya finds them stupidly easy, since she can just pop one into Phaselock and empty a clip into him.
Hope I helped. I've played through the game once, and I'm halfway through playthrough 2 now in solo. Never had any significantly hard times, except for right at the beginning when all your gear is gak and you have no action skills.
I haven't really had any problems with Zero. I started with the Cunning skills but just switched to sniper now. I'm level 24 though. But, around level 12 I got a purple exploding assault rifle that tore up pretty much everything I went up against. At 20, same thing when I got an orange corrosive pistol. I like to snipe though, so I usually just creep along slowly. I never really use stealth to attack, I save it for if my shields drop and I'm in trouble. I stealth and run away. by the time it wears off, my shields are recharging and I'm ready to jump back in.
also I've been going out of my way to do every quest I can find, now a lot of them are trivial difficulty now and I can usually breeze through them. So I think my level is a bit ahead of the curve now for where I'm at.

It's more a habit I'm trying to break than anything. In a number of the games I have played (including the first Borderlands IIRC) there is no friendly fire from grenades, so I'm used to tossing a grenade at my feet in a panic moment to cover me while I retreat. This ends up getting me killed a lot because I simply forget that I can't do that in this game. I do tend to throw grenades at clumped enemies but as you observed, it just serves to scatter them rather than deal actual damage. I have run across precious few grenade mods in this game so far and all of them have been fire mods. In fact, everything I've run across so far has been fire damage or explosive damage.
Locclo wrote: I definitely hear you about the bosses, though. Most of them are terribly hard to solo, if only because they tend to one-shot you with whatever they have. Again, though, it depends on who you're playing as - because Maya finds them stupidly easy, since she can just pop one into Phaselock and empty a clip into him.
Zero seems to have survivability problems at this level and I don't think they will get much better until I can start regenerating health when killing targets. It seems to me that's when I stopped having trouble in the first game, but I was playing a Siren in the first game so I had an awesome get-out-of-danger-free-card with Phasewalk. Decoy is similar but it doesn't do anything to prevent damage. It just drops aggro, so I need to get used to that.
Locclo wrote: Hope I helped. I've played through the game once, and I'm halfway through playthrough 2 now in solo. Never had any significantly hard times, except for right at the beginning when all your gear is gak and you have no action skills.
Perhaps I just need to get a few more levels and some better gear. One thing I am noticing that seems like a trend is class mods that grant larger bonuses at the expense of reduced shield capacity, and shields that have higher capacity at the expense of lower max health. The tradeoff of stats in this game seems like its own challenge, and I just haven't played enough to anticipate how it will affect me later on.
I have a pretty solid Maliwan SMG with fire damage on it right now. It's my go-to weapon for mid-range combat. I'm also sporting the shotgun from the assassin you have to kill with a shotgun in that one quest I can't remember the name of. The Fire Fire Dog? It does a disgusting amount of damage but it's inaccurate as all hell. When I switch to Bloodshed I think it will become my primary weapon.
Well I'm not too terribly worried about it, since the SMG is my "everything else is out of ammo" weapon(which is rare with all the ammo storage upgrades I have), but the one or two times every 5 levels or so that it happens.....
SMG's are my favorite weapon from the first game (Again, I played a Siren) and I'm glad to see they are about as useful in this game as they were then. One of my favorite builds was a Phoenix Siren with a high level Hellfire.
My current Zero works much the same, but I suspect that will change when I switch builds and get a few more levels.
My Zero currently uses a combination of every gun lol... Since I only have 3 weapon slots available, so I have a pistol, shotgun, and a sniper rifle, and I tend to switch them out with SMG and Assault Rifle when need be...
SMGs are a big part of my Axton playstyle, mostly because the "Frontline Engineer" class mod that I use (which is beautiful for a Guerilla/Gunpowder build) has a 25% bonus damage percentage to SMGs.
I've never been a fan of SMGs or shotguns for some reason.. till now. I did what I think is the last quest for that monster hunter guy where you have to kill a ginormous thresher. I killed it and it dropped an orange shotgun that does massive damage, and you can zoom in with it, it's like a sniper shotgun.
I got Moxxie's guns, I get the joke about why her favorite is her favorite, but I think it'll be too annoying to use after a while :/
I don't get it, what's the difference between SMGs and Rifles? I never found anything spectacular about SMGs, other than maliwan SMGs which are completely badass.
Also, slot machines are awesome. I got like 3 purple rarity weapons and a ton of eridium. My lvl13 soldier now has a maxed out backback and lvl2 rifle SDU.
SMGs have a much higher rate of fire and reload time, but deal less damage shot-for-shot.
They also have a quicker weapon swap time.
Assault Rifles deal relatively high damage shot for shot, have a decent reload time and rate of fire. Many of the Assault Rifles and their characteristics would be better classed as "battle rifles" instead, but eh can't be nitpicky. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a LMG styled rifle, but it's far and few between.

Ok, cool. I'll keep that in mind then.
Also, Michael Marmarill is awesome!
First time I spoke to him, he gave me a purple Maliwan SMG that deal electrical damage. My soldier has it as part of his standard loadout.
Started playing as 'Axton' instead, bar the odd difficulty spike its been alot more fun.
@CS, I might have the same one but i found it on that 'Splinter' mutant in the Tmnt mission. I think it's base damage is 63, it has a spinny thing on the side and some sort of ugly snout + a really sexy hologram crosshair. I agree it's a total beast.
The torgue assault rifles are quite good but really innacurate. They somehow manage to have very little sway or recoil but still have the bullets not quite go where you want them. Still they hit really hard and seem to do a good job of flinching the baddies.

Yeah, I love Torgue miniguns. Those chew up everything. Very, very good against those damned nomad badasses, as the explosion can hit past their riot shields and hurt them.
Flynt on True Vault Hunter mode is evil. Way too much health. I basically had to camp up on that spot near the ammo dispenser and spam corrosive/slag attacks.
I Am officially just support for my turret now. I slag the enemies and provide covering fire with grenades and a rather nice jacobs rifle, It kills everything. It doesnt even have missiles yet.
Necros wrote: I found me an orange gun on the skooter's girlfriend quest in the fridge. it's a corrosive pistol that shoots 2 bullets at a time. Really tears stuff up too.
This is the pistol I was mentioning before. So good. Also, my buddy and I were farming Scooter's Girlfriend (Snow White and her seven midgets), the giant that hid a weapons chest past her in the rat area, and then BATMAN!!!! He's a boss you don't have to fight, but I've gotten an orange pistol from him twice, worth a ton, but practically garbage (compared to equal level guns). He's called "Rakkman," but he hides in the Rakkcave and has pointy ears and swoops around at you. Couldn't stop laughing when I figured it out. Farm him, he'll give you high value weapons. Better than Laney (Snow) White.
Perkustin wrote: I Am officially just support for my turret now. I slag the enemies and provide covering fire with grenades and a rather nice jacobs rifle, It kills everything. It doesnt even have missiles yet.
I'm going the support route so that I can summon two turrets. The ability to stick the turret on pretty much any surface has proven to be far more useful than initially expected.
Switched to the Bloodshed tree as previously mentioned and I'm definitely doing better. My melee swings are devastating and combined with a ridiculous shotgun of one sort or another, I've had a lot less trouble. I do seem to be sniping a fair amount as the game progresses though, so perhaps I will do a sniper build on my second play through.
Also, I've been hitting the slots and aside from the occasional grenade, I've been getting a reasonable supply of Eridium to buy SDU's. Also, I got a purple Maliwan rocket launcher with electricity damage on it. Haven't had a chance to try it, but I will rectify that soon.
Well, after becoming bored with Zer0, I had a pop at Axton, and immediately after grabbing his turret, became exactly what perkustin described, although probably a little less-so thanks to the lack of skill points invested into the Guerrilla tree.
If a group of mobs appear, I throw in a Bonus Package MIRV that Boom (or maybe Bewm) dropped, slap down the turret, and take potshots with my 'splody shotgun.
I was doing the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve on my True Vault Hunter mode playthrough, and Timon dropped the "Swiss Dispatch" which is a legendary Tediore Shotgun with a really really unique quality.
You don't just "throw it and it goes boom" like most Tediore weapons. You "throw it and it tracks targets, firing while flying through the air until it finally explodes". It also does not explode just once--but up to three times.

Nope. Its just how it reloads.
The story goes that Tediore weapons were designed to be cheap and disposable. But there was an error with the weapon's design that cause it to explode after reloading.
Tediore took advantage of this and marketed this flaw as a "feature."
JohnnoM wrote: I see. I thought it was that you used cheap, crappy tediore guns as makeshift 1-off grenades. Good to know.
Yeah, the fact that the gun is rebuilt all the time is kinda wierd. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being disposable? Or maybe after they realized that it detonates after each reload, they added that feature in to make it more appealing on the market (from a story line point of view. Gameplay wise, its pretty obvious why its like that.)

I think it's meant to be that it's cheaper for tediore to digi-struct a brand new fully loaded gun into your hands than it is for them to design a way to reload it.

Make sure you find the "Patient Logs" in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve.
They make Tiny Tina so much less...psychotic in your eyes after hearing them.

Yeah, that was a very nice touch. I love finding those audio logs. I still find Tina to be annoying, but it does flesh out her character some at least.
It would be awesome if there was an audio log showing the adverse effects of the New-U machines, like, the more times you get resurrected the more insane you become. It would show how psychos came to be, for one thing.
Any idea where to find Zero's and Salvador's logs? I have no idea where to find those.
Finished the game last night. I liked the final battle and ending a lot more than the first game. But me being the noob that I am, I found the easiest way possible to kill the warrior.
Spoiler:
So in hero's pass I managed to find a purple super accurate rapid fire sniper rifle. I used this to take out the warrior. I took out Jack and tried to kill the warrior the normal way and got him down to around 30% before I died. As I was running back to the fight I noticed a big glowy barrier that was probably to keep people from going back to the starting area once the fight starts, but I died so the game sent me back there anyway.. the warrior was still out breathing lava on everything but the starting area was safe. Facing the barrier there's some scaffolding and rocks that you can climb onto. So I got up there and took a couple pot shots at the warrior and much to my surprise I hit him right in the eye. So I kept shooting from up there, then running back to the ammo vending machine to resupply, then rinsed and repeated till the warrior was dead, I saved the world and got the girl. Took a while, but I'm just lazy like that.
If you are not signed up for SHiFt, you need to be. Especially given that Randy Pitchford (@DuvalMagic on Twitter) is posting up Golden Key codes as part of a "SHiFt stress testing" mechanic.
A code for each platform has been posted, and they become redeemable in 1 hr and 38 minutes.
Basically, the loot you get from the chest is dependent upon the level of your character which opens it. So use your highest level character to open it.
Heh. My highest level character is 16 or 17. The Rocket Launcher made bosses trivial though at this point. 1500 damage stat + explosion bonus is nothing to sneeze at.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I figured the levelling speed bonus would be worth it if I got good stuff.
Do you have to be signed up for twitter to get the codes? I got the first 2 codes for signing up for shift, but I'm too lazy to sign up for anything else and I'm one of those low tech old people that hates twitter and facebook
Shift is a weird customer loyalty thingy that's built into the game. If you sign up for it, you get a key to the gold chest in Sanctuary. Then you can enter c odes that get you more keys.
I think i've gotten to the point where Zero's sniper tree would starts to be really good but i dislike changing my build since I'm so used to what i have now...
purplefood wrote: I think i've gotten to the point where Zero's sniper tree would starts to be really good but i dislike changing my build since I'm so used to what i have now...
Yeah, I'm noticing that I'm using Snipers a lot lately, but every gun I regularly use also has +50% melee damage INCLUDING my Sniper Rifle, so I am picking people off at a distance, and when things get close, I use Deception and melee, and sometimes switch to my Maliwan SMG with electricity damage on it.
I think I'll wait til I hit 50 before I really start messing with different builds.
JohnnoM wrote: Beside the noises, is bane actually any good? If so, suck it up princess!
Hear, hear. I play with the sound pretty much muted anyway (I'm fine with subtitles, and I've yet to find a modern game that has a soundtrack worth listening to ), so as long as you only use it for a quick shot of whatever elemental effect it has, you're golden. I used my Bane (it was corrosive) from the moment I found it until the end of Playthrough 1.
The fact that it reduces movement kills it for me. My playstyle involves moving and strafing constantly, unless I have a sniper rifle or a rocket launcher. Can't do that with the bane.
We had a friend of mine (43 Gunzerker at the time) and a friend of hers (50 Siren, 50 Commando, 50 Gunzerker, 50 Assassin...she kept changing classes for each kill ) farmed him.
The Commando class mod did not drop, any of those times.
I got the "Hide of Terramorphus", the "Pitchfork" sniper rifle (which is hilarious), and some other various bits and bobbles. Got the "Slayer of Terramorphus" class mod for my Assassin when he gets 50 though.
Kanluwen wrote: He is actually unable to be soloed by design. The only people who have done so utilized a glitch(which is intentionally made available).
This seems contradictory. If they made him unable to be soloed by design, but included a glitch to solo him, then why didn't they just make a solo mode and a group mode and have the group mode drop better loot? Then again, Crawmerax was only soloable because of a glitch in the first game, so I suppose it's not that surprising.
This again highlights the problem I have with the design of this game. They intentionally increase the difficulty of encounters, making some of them nearly impossible to solo forcing people to play in groups for the best experience. Some of us want to do a solo play through and not be punished for it. Could they not have just coded the encounter to be an appropriate challenge for whatever number of people are in the party? I died somewhere around 15-20 times while defending the beacon at Overlook, and spent a fortune buying rockets to take out the giant loader thing and the badass gun loader, which were a pain in the ass because of all the repair drones. If the encounter had reset after each death and forced me to do it over it would have been far more satisfying because I would have felt like I accomplished something and improved my skills. Changed tactics to overcome an obstacle. But instead I just respawned over and over until the mobs were dead. That's not defeating an encounter. That's zerging it until you win.
For the record, I haven't even completed my first play through yet. I'm level 18 or 19 and the quest described above is the last story quest I completed. I likely won't finish this game for another few weeks considering I'm also doing a duo play through with Mackie on my console since he hasn't gotten the game yet. I expect most everyone will have me severely out geared by the time I hit 50.
If there's something I can't solo, I won't do it at all. So far I haven't had any good experiences with multiplayer.. just a bunch of brats killing everything and taking all the loot that drops, or people that just go to the map and stay at the entrance so everyone else can finish the quest for them. I'd imagine it would be a lot of fun to play with friends you know, but I don't know any friends with a PS3 that also play what I want when I want :/

People stealing the loot is one reason I will never play online matchmaking. If they did not implement a loot system a-la World of Warcraft's need/greed rolling system, then I have no interest in playing because it simply becomes a contest of who can snap up the good loot fastest. With fiends at least there is something of an honor system when it comes to loot.
Well, I've been using Infinity ever since I got it around level 9 (because the Saber Turret and Bonus Package-yarp, lucky enough to get it on my first Boom'n'Bewm kill- make mincemeat of Doc Mercy), and I'm now level 18... When should I look to replace it?
It's a great weapon, if a little annoying because of the pattern it fires in, but it's just not pulling enough weight damage-wise to make the super-fast fire rate, 'unlimited' (so long as you have at least 1 pistol round left) ammo and no reloads seem worth it; shots seem to bounce off everything now, or just chip slowly away at their health, and although it'll take some time getting used to reloading and ammo consumption again, should I replace it soon? Or will it last long enough for me to be able to farm PT2 Doc Mercy for it?
I really doubt it will last that long. At lv 18 with Guerrila, I was running a green/blue rocket assault rifle, Rocket Launcher and a moxxi SMG with a green shotgun and sniper rifle for backup.
It only costs about 10k to get the first Mox gun, then about 1-2k for each additional.
(you have to tip about 10k in 1k amounts to get the first one then any further guns are just off of number of tips, not amount. So you tip 10-20 times 100 each time for later guns.)
Yeah, you're doing fine then. Infinity is just a nice starter gun. I got one as well.

Yeah, I kept on tipping, got given the Good and Bad Touches and my controller turned into a sex toy. I can see why it's supposed to be Moxxi's favourite gun
Now I'm really not sure whether to finish my Zer0 run or start a new character.

The Mechromancer will be free to players who pre-ordered Borderlands 2 and were entered into the Premiere Club, or $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points) for other players. Gearbox has also added Gaige’s entire skill tree to the Borderlands 2 official site, letting players plan their character early.
The Mechromancer is the fifth class for Borderlands 2, joining the Siren, Assassin, Commando and Gunzerker who were available at launch. She’ll be able to unleash Death Trap, her robot companion, to fight enemies at will, in addition to three skill tree branches for players to choose from. The content is expected to be available for all platforms later today in North America, and we’ll update this story once release information is revealed for other territories.
Until then, check out gameplay of Gaige in action in The Highlands below, and check out videos of the Mechromancer on The Fridge and the Mechromancer on Hyperion for even more.

Hey Kanluwen. Wanna let me leach XP with my Mechromancer when I play this evening? I'd like to level one up as quickly as possible. My Zero will finish my story play through but I'd like to have Gaige at 50 as soon as possible to join in with you and Eddie farming.
purplefood wrote: I was looking at the Mechromancer skill tree...
I don't think i'd enjoy her playstyle...
Actually the skill trees each offer one of three very distinct play styles.
The Best Freinds Forever tree is a pet class. Basically everything revolves around buffing the Deathtrap and making it go on murderfests. Think Demonology Warlocks from World of Warcraft. The Deathtrap eventually gets a shield and restores your shields while being tanky and awesome. As he kills he increases his duration, and the tree reduces his cooldown.
The Little Big Trouble tree is designed around elemental damage, and specializes in causing shock damage to targets that also lights them on fire. The Deathtrap sets up shock explosions for you and when you reload your gun you fire a blast of electricity around you. Also lasers.
The Ordered Chaos tree is completely different than anything else in the game. It lets you stack a buff on yourself that increases damage but decreases accuracy forcing you to get closer and closer to your target to deal damage. Also, it buffs you and the Deathtrap to deal extra melee damage, and has an optional triggered buff that allows you to temporarily increase accuracy while slowly reducing the stack size of the other buff. The general idea is that you either go for a weapon with a very small clip and play the glass cannon, building your stack as high as possible and rushing the enemy, or you try to keep your stacks low and constantly drop in and out of Discord, regenerating health and increasing fire rate and accuracy.
Personally I like the idea that one class can be played in three very different ways. It's interesting.
Anyone else find that, constructors aside, Hyperion forces are ridiculously easy? They just sit there and let you blow their weapons off. Been laying waste to them with a progression of bog standard green/white maliwan corrosive Sniper rifles since they first appeared. The only difficult enemy is the constructors and their hideous amount of health and cheap homing missiles.
Something i have noticed about borderlands 2 which makes it a cut above most shooters is the 'Burn rates'. They are really well balanced and encourage experimental play without ammunition becoming a scarce resource, but at the same time forcing the player into some light scavenging. Alot of modern shooters forget this fundamental part of FPS/shooter design theory and it is not something 99.9% of non-industry people know about. Of course you could just buy it from the vending machines i guess.
Started playing as the gunzerker, one word: AWESOME!
Feels alot more skilled and less repetitive than axton or zero and the cooldown is juusst right. Tediore and hyperion weapons are finally tactically viable when before they seemed pretty pointless (Tediore because of wobbly accuracy/low damage and hyperion because of shallow mags) and his skill tree is really cool. It's a shame the initial health regeneration perk is pretty underpowered (titan class mod helps) as Axton's regeneration aleaved the tedium of playing as zero.
I still like Axton's tactical style but i should have picked gunzerker for my first playthrough.

Also, there is an error in the compatibility download, as well as the dl itself causing some issues making the Mechro unavail and not allowing online play.

I had the same problem trying to DL it from the compatibility file. Go to the downloadable content and it works to download fine. Also had problems DLing the Mecro for a half hour. Asked Microsoft to call me and see if it was just getting bogged down, and the flaming thing started working! Very glitchy on the DLC opening day.

Omg, thank you Aldarionn! I didn't know that you could leach like that. I parked Zero in town on split screen while Axton tore up Lynchwood. Free XP! Now to give him the +5% XP relic and we're golden.
Also, bought the premier pack which gets you Mechro and some goodies. Yay. Do the Vault Hunter relics stack?
I now have a sniper rifle that berates me every time I reload and /or kill a target. It would be slightly more amusing if it had a larger repertoire of lines, but since it's the best weapon I have come across so far, I cannot justify using another weapon.

Ah yes, the morningstar. Mine had a bug where the audio for it keeps playing even if you don't have it in your inventory. I had to restart the game to fix it.
Seriously, the thing 3 shots badass loaders and 1 shots anything that's not a badass. Super Badass Loaders take a single clip, and Constructors take a single clip. The only thing I've found that I have to reload to kill is Super Badass Constructors.
With a weapon that good, I cannot simply toss it aside because it tells me orphans on promethia can't afford ammo when I reload, or that the loader I just scored a crit on might be a nice guy if I'd gotten to know him better.

I like to think that Zero is the embodiment of violence itself, and thus has no parents. He was simply spawned into being because Pandora is such a hellhole, like a murder elemental.
