Yep we'll get to that too. The fist expansion will have a werewolf & other beasts kind of theme, the next one will be voodoo zombies, witches and cannibals
Necros wrote: I showed the sculpt for Kurt Wyatt already, but here is his concept art, along with 2 other hired guns we’ll be adding to the Kickstarter. Kurt’s best friend Dr. Kilmer along with the infamous bounty hunter Wayne Duke.
OH SNAP...make them EXACTLY like that and Ill be all over a set. Val Kilmers Doc Holiday is one of my favorite movie characters.
Basically the recent hurricane knocked out my power for a day, but my cable & internet has been down since monday. I can do some minor stuff from work, but nothing extensive like upload files. My dropbox account has been down all week as a result too, so that means the printer has not been able to get my updated files for the boxes and cards, so, yeah, another delay for the old campaign :/
This also pushed back the new campaign, as I'm not able to get new graphics uploaded, but in the meantime the artists are chugging away on new concepts. The new campaign is also going to be pushed back a tad, so it will probably be launching in the next week or so.
For those of you waiting on your original orders from the first campaign, I'm sorry this has taken so long. The ball is mostly in Game Salute's court now though, so there's light at the end of the tunnel. They'll be getting the boxes all printed and packed up and sent out very soon.
Necros -
I'm finally getting around to ordering my models from the previous campaign. When I do, will there be anything special I'll have to do or tell them to be sure I get my freebies?
Sorry, I know you mentioned it earlier, but we're up to 21 pages, now, and I have no idea where it was. : )
Nope nothing special. As far as I know what will happen is if you owe anything they'll email you and say "we need this much for shipping/extra stuff" and then you can pay via paypal. But for the free items (3 figs + dice) you'll just get them thrown in the box with everything else.
Got some new news .. Game Salute is almost done building the Kickstarter page. It's looking good. I think they're going to be launching the campaign tomorrow, if not tonight
We have art done now for all the new gangs and new bonus characters, and also a bunch of add ons. Going to also be offering building bundles from GameCraft and Battle Flag, Army painter paint sets, battlefoam bags, and bases from secret weapon minis.
For the old campaign, all the kinks with the boxes and printed stuff has been ironed out and the boxes will be printed and all packed up real soon, so I'm expecting the original orders will finally start going out in the next couple of weeks. Now that we have the process in place it will be much easier when it comes time to finish the new box sets so things will go much smoother in the future, but just to be safe we are still guesstimating the release dates for the new campaign to be July of next year. But I expect the first wave of minis will be done much sooner. Just planning far in advance to be safe. We were planning to have the new campaign end before Thanksgiving since campaigns don't usually do as well during xmas shopping season, but it took longer to prepare than we thought, so it's just going to stretch into December now.
I was looking at your previous KS campaign... is the pricing likely to remain close to that ballpark? Because if so, then you can't get my money fast enough, dear sir!
Automatically Appended Next Post: There was "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" on tv tonight. Even in French, I have to admit it's fun. Let's get this show on the road, Necros!
We'll also be posting an update on the page shortly about the previous campaign status, with some exciting photos of Game Salute warehouse employees gingerly packing up orders
Hopefully you don't have to take much more... looks like no one is getting christmas presents in my family this year!
edit:

Will there be a way to get 12 dice without paying 5 bucks for every 2? The first kickstarter we go 12 dice total as pledges (that I remember), it would be nice to get 12 of the colt ones to have even sets of both.
For the dice, the 2 dice for $5 is actually just for that $5 pledge.
We did 6 dice as a $10 add-on, and since the dice are bonus items, you can get 6 as one of your free bonus items. If you want 12, just add $10 to your pledge to cover every other 6-pack of dice you want
Last time it was 14 dice for everyone, but that's because I was a dummy and didn't add any kind of limit.. end up eating up a lot of the profits
And yeah I was a little premature, they just said don't post that it's live till we do the update for the last campaign. Oops
Don't know about Adepticon, right now I'm saving up for GenCon next year, and try and get me a real dealer booth instead of guerilla style demos in the board game room like last time Then the following year I hope to focus on some other cons too.
Automatically Appended Next Post: ha .. yeah, last campaign actually had me in the red :/ hopefully not this time
as far as the last campaign goes.. just a matter of getting the rest of the boxes printed and packed up, i'm expecting to have everything start shipping in the next couple of weeks. But if I had a nickel for every time I said that, I'd have like 45 cents by now...
Sucks that the last one ended you in the red. Hopefully the game explodes and provides a great retirement! Or at least helps you break even. Can't wait to have the first sets here so I can start running some demos!
...but it'll have to get to a whopping $90.000,- before support packs start getting unlocked? damn, I was so hoping for that gatling gun mentioned a while back

Any idea if they will ship before the end of this campaign?
I'm expecting them to ship before the end. that's my goal. It depends on how slow the printer is :/ But I'm hoping the boxes will be done this week or early next week, and Game Salute knows they have to expedite so yeah, you should have the original figs pretty soon
The gatling gun is part of the Wilde's Rangers starter set, so as soon as that's unlocked then the gun is too We might be able to offer the gatling gun separate too when the time comes.

ooh, so it's the five pictured men and a gatling gun in that starter? That's pretty great value!
oh well, fingers crossed for $60,000 then
This will get to 90K, right? Right?!?!?!? I need those damn big heroes.
Backer #11.
I was wondering why there were no gangs+buildings pledge levels... I tell my students to read carefully all day long, and see what I almost did? Sheesh.
That 100$ level is pretty sweet, with all the bonus figures.
BrookM wrote: Any idea if they will ship before the end of this campaign?
Yeah, I have this funny rule about not backing a second kickstarter from a company before I get my first kickstarter toys from them. Stopped me from getting in on the 2nd Wreckage KS as well.
Fingers crossed you get the printing smashed out and everything sent before the end of this one.
Yep, we're making Wilde's Rangers the same price as the other starters for the campaign, but with 6 models in the set the retail price will likely be higher. They're all going to be $35 retail, so the ranges will probably be like $40.
We wanted to design the campaign and drive pledges toward a high level that gets all the good stuff, like other campaigns do.. seems to work well for them. So the higher we can get, the more bonus stuff you can get if you pledge $100 or more. We're just showing the 1st tier of releases, so if we get high enough we'll be doing a lot of those 3-man support packs, mounted models and if we get really really high, I hope to be able to do a plastic stage coach model kit
But if we don't, it'll still serve as a roadmap for future releases so everything you see will get released eventually, just not a part of the campaign.
We did the buildings as an add-on this time. So if you want one of the bundles you just increase your pledge by the price listed. We figured this would be easier than having separate special pledge levels like before. All that did was make things more confusing for the game salute warehouse guys.
And I understand about the old campaign. We did the new one now so we could get it done before Xmas. If we didn't do it now, we'd probably wait till February and that would mean no new figures till probably September.
I'm actually hoping the new ones from this campaign will be done sooner now that we have the process all figured out, I'm hoping for around April or May instead of July but we'll see how it goes.
BrookM wrote: Any idea if they will ship before the end of this campaign?
Yeah, I have this funny rule about not backing a second kickstarter from a company before I get my first kickstarter toys from them. Stopped me from getting in on the 2nd Wreckage KS as well.
There's actually no exclusive figures, all of them will be released for retail later on. The only thing though is the bonus figures are available separately in the Kickstarter, but for retail they will be in packs of 3. Kurt Wyatt, Dr. Kilmer and Wayne Duke will be in the Lawmen pack and Nevada Dave, Father Al and Marshall Stewart will the the Adventurers.
The only thing that will be limited are the Colt 45 dice, mostly just because they would probably be too expensive to have all the time. It's cheaper to collect a bunch of orders for them and then order in the 1000's. So we can get a good deal on them if we add em to a Kickstarter.
So either way if you miss this Kickstarter you can still buy them later But, the KS price is cheaper, like the starters are $30 here but for retail they will be $35
Very very tempting to jump on my first kick starter
If you pick a starter set from the old kick starter say The Bloodwolf Tribe and a new one for example The Widowmakers will you ship the order as one in July 2013 or part ship when each gang is available. I'm not worried either way but thought it might be something people might ask.
Yep I'm sure that will be an option. What I'm guessing the might do is make your first shipment free, so if you want to get the old minis sooner you can do that and just pay a little extra to get the next shipment later on. Or you can wait and get it all at once.
However of the 62 projects I have backed on Kickstarter your's is by far the most delinquat. You've had people's money for around 7 months, specifically since the 15th of April with an estimated shipment date of June 2012. Your status updates have been sporadic at best, and your actual method of delivery has changed several times. If I don't receive my models from the first kickstarter before your "new" one ends I will be canceling my pledge as well as urging people who followed me into this campaign to do the same as well.
I personally think it is very inapporpriate to start a second Kickstarter before you've fufilled your obligations for the original regardless of the reasons.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also from what I've read in this thread it appears you have no intention of making a hardbound rulebook....
I'd like to remind you that a hardbound rulebook was an option in your original campaing and I've already paid for it.
Sorry again it's taken so long. The original release date was supposed to be August because of the extra starter sets that were unlocked, but Kickstarter wouldn't allow me to change that once people started pledging. I know that doesn't really matter now and it's still way overdue regardless. It's my fault for not planning ahead and not knowing how long it would really take.
Game Salute is publishing the game now, in a higher quality format than I could have done myself. Had I done things myself I might have gotten everything done faster, but I would have run out of money before I finished everyone's order. Again, my mistake and a lesson learned the hard way. They will be working hard to get everything done asap. It's out of my hands now, I'm the designer and I come up with the new gangs and the game rules, they handle the product side of things... but I'm working with them to make sure we can get everything done asap.
There might not have been enough updates along the line, but there really wasn't any update other than "I'm still waiting on this guy or that guy". I felt like I was starting to sound like a broken record.
You are correct, there is no hardback rulebook anymore. Game Salute also provided the funding to make a real high quality, 80 page full color rulebook, instead of a low quality 30 page print-on-demand copy from Lulu.com. That's the hardback book you would have gotten. If you still want that, I can still make one from lulu for you, but I would imagine you would rather have a nicer version. If not we can refund it, or apply the $30 to an additional starter set or whatever you want to do.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, also, one thing I hope we're able to do with the new campaign is to offer miniatures "unboxed" as a shipping option, so you can get your order shipped as soon as we get the miniatures, no need to wait for boxes to be made, etc. And this is still an option for the old campaign. We have all of the miniatures, bonus dice and buildings. If you want them now and don't care about the pretty box, we can get you your figures asap The rulebook would be another matter, but still.
Right now the printing has been the biggest delay. In the future we'll be printing things earlier, like using artwork for the cards instead of model photos, etc. We had to use photos for the original models because I didn't have any nice color art for them.
Just to make sure I'm reading it correctly. The Colt .45 dice count as a bonus figure, so the $100 pledge would automatically net me a set of 6 (along with the rest of the unlocked bonus figs) and if I want any additional sets I just need to up my pledge by $10.00 for each. I'm a sucker for dice.
Yep, the 6 dice are a bonus item so you automagically get 6 Even for the folks that pledge $30 for 1 starter, they can choose the dice for their 1 bonus item instead of a figure if they want.
So then if you wanted more it will be $10 for 6 more. Or $50 for 30 you can get as many as you want, but in groups of 6 at a time.

I'm not really concerened about things taking longer then expected. In fact its something I expect when I back a first time game developer. What bothers me is looking for more money before you've delivered anything from the original project, thats what I find in very bad taste.

Usually this should be the other way around... But then again I've come to the realization that the only way to get what you expect with Game Salute is to set your expectations really low.... They are after all the Latest...

Sound like a broken record, I can easily block or stop messages coming from you. Unfortunatly I get ansy when I don't hear from people I've given money to in awhile.

For me its not so much the thing, and in the grand scheme of things I could care less about the money. What bothers me is how I found out about it. I had to read through 5 pages of posts on a forum, then actually pose the question to get an answer. If you or anyone else involved had sent me an email or a message saying that the rulebooks weren't really feasible but here's what we can do for you, I would have been perfectly fine with that. Unfortunatly that never happened and up until a few hours ago I had assumed I was getting what I had pledged for. A big part of gaining a following in Kickstarter is delivering everything thats promised and building trust with your backers. In the scheme of things delerving one hardcover rulebook may not seem like much to you, but look at it from a backers perspective. i don't know you personally, I don't get to look you over your shoulder and see how much work you put in. All I have to build trust in you is your prior preformance and the few updates that I get about the project. Then I find out through a third party source that I have to hunt down that your not intending to offer all of the things originally offerred in the original project.....
Well, while I think Catyrpelius is overreacting somewhat he does make one very good point: communication is key in things like this. send small updates. Keep folks in the loop. Be as proactive as you can when things don't work quite as expected - that way often when things go wrong and you resolve it in a decent way, you'll come off with virtually all backers only loving you more for it
You're right, in hindsight we probably should have waited. It's too late now, but another lesson learned. I am planning yet another campaign for the Weird West board game version. It's both a new stand-alone game, but also an expansion for the Skirmish game. That's barely out of the idea stage though and will take a lot of artwork and sculpts to get it done. So I won't be launching that until the minis from this new campaign are done. It likely wouldn't be ready until late next summer anyway. Either way, my goal is to get to the point where I don't need Kickstarter at all, and just make the minis I want to and release them the old fashioned way.
If it's more frequent updates you want, then that's what you'll get. I think I also made the mistake of posting a lot of updates here but not on the campaign page. I guess it's partly due to my dakka habit and me needing to post something when I'm bored at work.
Sorry about mis-communicating the rulebook then. I'm sure I've posted about it a few times, but maybe I just didn't go into detail enough. The printed rulebook will be a small-format book similar in size to what GW includes in their starter sets. In fact the downloadble rules on my site right now are from the actual files we sent off to the printer. 84 pages, full color, nice glossy paper. I was actually pretty impressed with the proof the printer set, I guess I was just expecting it to be like Lulu's quality. It'll cost $20 and be available for retail at the same time as the other original box sets. Kickstarters will get their box sets before retail release though. There will be a large format hardback rulebook some day, but it's probably a good year away, after the game has been out a while and we can include a lot of models, lots of great art and fluff and make something that looks really great. Rules won't really change, just the big rulebook will get lots of extras, including campaign rules and all.
Well, lesson learned indeed. How about from now on, any KS campaign you do, after it gets finished, gets at least one status update every 14 days until everyone has their stuff? Do one in regular intervals that way we know when to expect news, even if only news of no news. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a quick write-up. Shouldn't cost you more than ~20min every two weeks Catyrpelius had a point there as well. **Every** KS update I receive has a link at the bottom titled "Unsubscribe from this project's updates with one click", which, as you'd expect, lets me forget about a project and live my life until, one day, stuff magically shows up on my doorstep Besides, once every two weeks, or even once every week, isn't *that* much. Hey, we all thought the project was sufficiently interesting to invest money in. Even if it was only thirty bucks or so, you can safely assume most of us are sufficiently interested to like status updates. Feth, it's actually part of the fun, reading about a project's progress like that! Again, those few who mind the updates *can unsubscribe with one click*.
Yeah, actually what I hoped to do was a bi-weekly email newsletter with news and status updates but also more to include tutorials and downloads and photos of people's minis and other user-submitted stuff. Just not really there yet since the minis aren't out yet. My emails though have been more like bi-monthly lately, I just didn't think it was worth spamming people just to say "Yep, still waiting" again and again.
But, yeah, with a lot more happening now i'll have a lot of new updates coming more often

Fair enough.
Just remember concerning your updates. Everyone that backed your project knows about your kickstarter page. Not everyone that backed your project knows about this thread on a primarily 40k forum...
Necros: If you were in touch with some writers, you could ask for short, short stories to incorporate to your newsletter, which would fill space and even if you have nothing much to report, will make for a good read.
As long as I get my stuff from the first, the speed of this one being up doesn't bother me.
Hell with White Wolf I'm now backed up with two completed Kickstarters, and a potential third only just arrived a little before the WtA 20th was listed.
Anyway, glad to see more stuff up, and I'm liking a number of these gangs more than the first wave. My only issue is I can't remember which two gangs I picked for the first one. Will probably get Marshall, or Sheriff and a terrain pack, will have a think over the next few days.
Thanks, I think it will be Will be a better deal when we get it higher, the more we can unlock the better the value $100+ becomes. We have stretch goals planned out to around 400k Really just an upcoming/planned release list and the higher we get the more we can do now.
The mini short story idea sounds good, might look into that. I really want to do a lot of user-submitted content. Everyone comes up with their own house rules or campaigns or whatever, so I'll be happy to share what other folks come up with
Did I hallucinate, or you did a bit of legerdemain with the stretch goals, and brought Tranquility's crew down to a manageable 40K? I'm super stoked about that, although I'd still like to reach the rangers.
I agree it makes sense to wait if possible, but clearly things are all getting packed / etc from the pics in that update. If it were me waiting, I'd probably just ask for the minis unboxed (***Edit: Oh, didn't realize there were character cards and that the rulebook wasn't ready, if that's the case, I can see why folks are waiting). Necros, it's reallllllly odd to me that that's the biggest holdup. Get a different printer, or go On The Lamb's way and get Game Salute to buy one, or something .
For the new campaign, free shipping to most of the world is Awesome!
I will be watching with great interest. However, I may have taken a vow with some severe consequences that Trollforged's would be my last Kickstarter for this year...
Yes we did move Tranquility up to $40k. So many people were asking about it, so we decided to move it up. I don't know why it's so popular. I mean, it's just a bunch of folks on a riverboat, minding their own business. Nothing special...
Printer isn't the only holdup, it's taking longer than expected but it's really just a bunch of other things leading up the the printing that also took longer than expected, and then things before that that took too long. So right now it's just the printer that's the last piece in the puzzle. The printer took a while though because they sent us the proofs, and then right before we were about to sign off on them we found some errors that needed to be fixed, so we had to start that whole process over again.
Funny story, just today I got an email from one of the original backers, turns out he works for the printing company we're using and was surprised to see the boxes come across his desk today all the sudden
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and yeah, I was surprised they were able to do free shipping. That will be great especially for folks in Europe. Had lots of backers from over there last time
WAUGH! You didn't seriously kick Wilde's rangers from 60K to 90K? gah, that was pretty much the only other crew I wanted :'{
oh well. here's to hoping it gets that far.
I take it all crews will eventually be published, just not quite as fast as via this KS?
Yeah we moved them down, they're one I really like too and I wanted to have a really cool one at the very end to work towawrd which is why Tranquility was there at first, but we got so many emails from people we had to adjust it. I think we'll get that far And if we don't, they'll still be made. Everything you see on the page is going to get done, it's just a matter of what can be included in the campaign. So if we don't make it to a goal, it will just get added to the sculpting queue anyway and released the good old fashioned way
We are going to miss this Kickstarter, start of the wifes new job has been delayed a month and counting, and its killed us financially. We will have to pick up some stuff when it goes on general sale.
Question...will the guys like Kurt and Kilmer be available for regular purchase or are the KS only?

Yep, nothing is kickstarter-exclusive except for maybe the dice since we have to buy them in one huge batch to get a low enough price to make them affordable for everyone. Kurt, Kilmer and Wayne will eventually be sold in the "Hired Guns: Lawmen" support pack. But with the Kickstarter, you have the option to buy them separately if you want, instead of in the box of all 3. Everything listed on there is pretty much a planned release list so what you see will eventually get sculpted and released, whatever we can unlock will just come first.
Rupert Fox... think that one went over my head, who is he? Here's the little gang bio I put together for the Tranquility Crew though, still tweaking it though.
The Blackwater River begins just north of town at the bottom of Victory Falls, and flows many distant miles southward, ending in bayou country. Scores of riverboats carry goods and people up and down along the river, with the riverboat Tranquility being the most infamous. She is manned by a motley, but close-knit crew with a reputation bordering on piracy, carrying their fair share of legal and illegal cargo all along the river.
The captain of the boat is Nathan Reinhold, a former sergeant of the US Army who commands respect yet is fiercely loyal to his crew. Adam James is the muscle, a bounty hunter with more guns than he can count (even though he can't count that high), while Dr. Simon keeps the crew's wounds patched up. Julie, the ship's mechanic, has an almost magical skill with engines and somehow manages to keep Tranquility afloat at the worst of times. Reverend Sheppard accompanies the crew, doing his part to bring a little salvation to the lawless and the lost.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and when we do get the crew sculpted, I'm going to see if the we can do Adam James with 2 different heads to choose from.. one normal and the other with a knitted cap

With a name like that, you'd have to either make her extremely attractive and seductive, or dress her up like a hussy that has seen several hundred miles of bad road kinda like the 3 dollar hooker from futurama.
bbb wrote: Exactly. He could have a henchman named Friday Knight.
More good stuff!
And more importantly, you could actually work these 'homage' characters into your game world with a real story, rather than just figures that kinda sorta look like something kinda sorta popular.
Oh, yeah they'll have their own place in the world, not just doing them for the gimmick. Wanted to have a gang of smugglers and Tranquility turned out to be a perfect fit.
The Blackwater River is basically my fictional Mississippi river with riverboats going up and down it, ending in not-lousiana in bayou country. Planning a cajun themed gang some day, the Bayou Boys. They will probably get added when we get to the voodoo zombie expansion some day, along with were-crocodiles and black lagoon creatures
I like Rupert Fox though, could make him the crooked sheriff of Murdoch County down south somewhere, and make it deputy Friday and Deputy Knight for henchmen

Alternatively Rupert Fox could be a newspaper reporter seeking to expose the illegal activities of the Tranquility. He could be supported by two assistants: Friday Knight and Beth Slott.
We can add the Rugarou So many different names for the same monsters, trying to think up ways to use them all. Thinking we could do it like one might be a werewolf, then there could be a werecoyote, werejackal, werehyena, or the dreaded North Baja California Hairless WereChihuahua?
Yeah Vampires will be in there too. Not sure how I want to do them.. snooty rich-kid Anne rice types? Nerdy-cool buffy types? Vicious monster 30-days-of-night types? They're probably a long way off, the plan is to do the big box set game that will be mostly centered around were-things, with campaign expansion packs that would each have a new theme. So the first campaign pack would be the voodoo zombies, followed by goblin (tommyknocker) miners, and then probably vampire types after that. Still a long way off so plenty of time to plan it out.
I'd also like to do something with aliens, but not in a Cowboys vs Aliens way.. something more along the lines of the star children native american myths. No ray guns or anything. It'll have to be something that still fits in with the theme and world (even though they're from a different one). Don't want it to come off as too corny though.
The Tommyknockers strike me as more of a Pennsylvania thing than Old West...
For Vampires, I think you couldn't go wrong with a more "bestial" vampire. Something like the Strigoi, where they roam in packs and don't just drink blood?
True, but I kind of want the monster game to cover all kinds of US folklore not really just westerns. I was even thinking of adding the Jersey Devil or the Hodag .. I've been thinking of it like a fantasy game, but using US and indian folklore in a western setting, instead of the same old tolkein ripoffs. Also been considering branding it as it's own game, maybe dropping the Blackwater Gulch name and using something different and spooky sounding, but they'll be 2 compatible games like Warmachine & Hordes. It will still have the western theme though, and the majority of it will be westerny or indian monsters
Anyway, some new updates today We'll be doing and update on the KS page later, but I just added the downloadable Character Cards for the Widowmakers and also Kurt Wyatt
For some reason my direct pdf download link didn't work, so you can just get em off my site
Yep that's exactly it.. Supernatural-in-1890-the-tactical-skirmish-miniatures-hobby-boardgame Same rules as BWG only 1" square spacess for movement and template overlay thingies to represent buildings or obstacles, and rules for how to play as a normal skirmish game too.
But instead of 2 gangs setting up and fighting it's more like monster hunting heroes show up and then monsters swarm in around them, so it's like a survival game. Monsters get 1 spawn area for each hero played so you can make the game as big or as small as you want.
It will introduce new professions and character types. Like a Skinwalker will be the same kind of stats as your average Professional level character in BWG, and their animal form's ability will be like their professional skill. We'll add beasts (chupacabra and wolf-sized things) as 25 XP monsters and Varmits that are smaller 5 XP things that attack as a group.
So, each new campaign pack will have to follow that same mold. 1 boss with a host of pros, henchmen, beasts and varmints, and 2 or 3 new heroes, plus a couple of new board tiles to add to the existing big box set. But also, each campaign pack could also be played just on it's own if you want a small & quick game.
hehe .. i was calling them critters at first, but I think varmint sounds more fitting
So .. new development with the campaign. We're going to change up the stretch goals a bit. I was originally going to do the Tranquility Crew really just for fun in the event we were able to get high enough but it turns out its the set that people are overwhelmingly asking for across the board.
So with that in mind we're going to be changing the goals to something like this:
$5k - Kurt Wyatt (unlocked now)
$10k - Widowmakers
$15k - Dr Kilmer
$20k - Tranquility Crew
$25k - Wayne Duke
$30k - Flying Zarconis
$35k - Nevada Dave
$40k - Secret Fist
$45k - Father Al
$50k - Dockside Drifters
$55k - Marshall Stewart
$60k - Wilde's Rangers
Will take a little bit for Game Salute to get the KS page updated but I think this will make the goals more realistic and if we end up doing really well we'll be able unlock the support packs even sooner
I think we'll have a much better shot at getting all the gangs unlocked now. What I'm hoping for is folks will see a $100+ pledge as a much better value and start increasing to cover it, or get off the fence and jump in So as things start getting unlocked more and more will jump in or raise their pledge or whatever. Basically just trying to follow what some of the CMON campaigns have done and give lots of cool goodies.
Don't worry, I won't be dropping it till the end if I do
Like the new order a lot. Getting some things out the door from the old KS will help a lot too!
Nice to see backers from the previous KS get some goodies for backing on the new ones too! (so it appears). Just means I will have to get more for all the gangs!
Well... The original rewards schedule did seem overly optimistic. I do hope that this revision gives the kickstarter a spike in new backers. I'd really like to see this project be successful in reaching all the goals set so far.
Best of luck!
I just got the green for Kyrt Wyatt today, I'll post new pics of him as soon as I get a chance to take em.
Also got the test rules all done for artillery, like the general rules for all artillery. just got to put together a card for the gatling gun itself then I'll put a PDF together
I have seen this in Many KS campaigns. Having stretches closer together creates Way more momentum! Good on you for making htem 5K apart instead of 10K, it should help your progress immensely.
I do hope we get to unlock the Silent Fist. Could be fun. I know this game is going to be very endearing to friends who don't have time to paint whole armies, so I can paint a gang for them and be done with it.
Yeah it seems to be going better with the closer goals. I think we'll go much farther this way. I'm hoping for a snowball effect once more things start unlocking and pledges become better values
And yeah, while I love me a game of 40K now and then, I wanted to make a game that was the opposite. You can have a gang painted in a weekend instead of a year, and play a fun game in 30 minutes instead of 3 hours
So here's pics of Kurt, 1 with some other minis for comparison and one extreme closeup.
Yep they are Mickey Finn and John Blackwood, they're part of the Desperados support pack but also bonus figures in the new campaign. And you're right, I just noticed he doesn't have a band around his hat .. he sculpted it based on screenshots from the movie that I gave him, and since he was wearing all black you can't really see the band. No big deal for me though, I think it looks great with or without
And no I wasn't at the Warstore weekend. I was planning to go but some last minute things came up. Other folks could have been playing there though, a few guys were telling me they were gonna play there.
I read the quick rules, they are great, but I can't remember if I saw some kind of mechanism to regulate campaign play. Do you have some of that up your sleeve, like recovery, gains in experience points, a general store and the like?
Yep, everything listed as "bonus figure" is free if you pledge $100 or more the $10 add on part is just for like if you pledged low but you just wanted to add in 1 extra bonus guy.
There are campaign test rules on the rules download page it's not a part of the official game rules mostly because I wanted to keep them quick & more streamlined but we'll add it in officially some day when we get around to doing the great big hardback rulebook.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh about the add ons .. it's $10 extra if you want more than one bonus item. So like if you pledge $100 you'll get the bonus figs and 6 free dice. If you wanted to get 6 more dice, add on $10
Alpharius wrote: Kicktraq can't accurately calculate the 'end rush' that good campaigns usually experience in the last few days, and especially the last day.
I'm thinking (and hoping!) that you'll end up closer to $50K!
True.
But on a campaign only 2 or 3 days old, Kicktraq also has a tendency to overestimate the final goal on good campaigns as it extrapolates from the (if well advertised) usually very good first one or two days, when all the people "waiting for it" plunge in, possibly even accelerated by limited pledges.
Take DreadBall for example
Kicktraq predicted well over a million, well over 1.5 million actually, in the beginning - going off the many early pledges. Than it dropped and picked up again for the end-of-campaign rush.
Alpharius wrote: Not sure what they're doing in their more 'experimental' projections though.
that actually changes ever so often; I believe last I heard it was something of an extrapolation from previous campaigns of how the curve would shape up, applied to the daily totals so far; it changes every now and then though as the guy who runs KT tries to finetune the projection process.
Actually, those projections do, in about 90% of projects, show a range containing the final result for ~80-90% of said project, I believe. it's the crazy big stuff (SW, DB -- Reaper!! --) which doesn't quite fit the normal mold at times.
I'm afraid your 50K projection is accurate, perhaps a bit optimistic even, alas. (I'd have to pull out if the total didn't reach 60K; only other gang I really like is those guys!)
I think it'll get a boost once it funds at 10K. Will be interesting to see how the holiday season affects this (and the Kingdom Death campaign) for good or ill! I think it could be a mix of both.
Yeah timing definitely could have been better. Another lesson learned I think the holiday season is going to be a factor.
And now that I think about it, probably one of the best times for any campaign is like March or so, when people start getting their tax returns and need to spend it on something fun

Feb/March/April probably IS the best time for a campaign, though I still think yours will do well now, RiTides' lack of participation notwithstanding!
Well we're at 8K now Hoping we'll get funded in the next couple of days if not sooner and we can start unlocking more stuff
I'm also working on an all new official not-hosted-by-me message board for the game that I'll have more details about soon. And hopefully tonight I'll have the Gatling Gun rules all done We may add extra gatling guns as a bonus item too, even if the rangers don't get unlocked, we already had the 3D model made so we'll be getting that kit made no matter what.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and just tossing this out there... if we were to unlock all bonus figures, think that would be a big help? Only thing though is that would mean we won't be able to have anything new unlocking between gangs, so each new level would be $10k apart. But the reasoning is it would make the higher levels a much better value right off the bat and hopefully get more to jump in, instead of waiting around for each guy to get unlocked.
I was seeing the bonus figures as goals in and of themselves, honestly. Can't wait to hit Nevada Dave. I'm a bit fuzzy if Marshall Stewart is supposed to be a reference to anything, but short steps, steady goals seems to be the way to go, in my mind.
Nevada Dave, Father Al and Marshall Stewart are the 3 characters that the high end backers in the first campaign got to create. Same with the Dockside Drifters gang. Figured we would add them to the list while we're working on the rest
I have some other characters planned that are based on other things, but they might actually be better off for the Weird West game. Like Ashford Campbell would be a better monster hunter, Dr. Emmitt would be a better engineer.
I have some other characters planned that are based on other things, but they might actually be better off for the Weird West game. Like Ashford Campbell would be a better monster hunter...
Groovy!
I still think he might make a great stretch goal for this campaign!
There's a reason why there aren't many big game kickstarters up right now.... It seems silly to launch a Kickstarter for something in the Nov/Dec time frame that isn't set to be delivered during the holidays. Just another reason why you should have waited until you had delivered on the original project.
Now onto something slightly more constructive....
Your original project had 248 backers, of those backers 241 of them were getting atleast one box set. 94 of those backers were getting one box set, 97 of those backers were getting two box sets, 15 backers were getting three box sets and 31 backers were getting all four. The point is, is that 97% of the backers from the original project already got their choice of their favorite gang.... Realistically you should be trying to pull those 248 backers from the original project back into your new project. The problem is, is that 97% of those original backers already have what they want most out of your 4 basic unlocked crews.
On to my next point... The Widowmakers... Why for flip sake is this "Stretch Goal" locked? First off, its unlocked if you meet your funding goal which makes locking it pointless. unlocking it from the getgo makes a backer feel like they have more choices. Second... Nevermind...
Next point - The $90 Reward Level... All this is doing is taking away $10 a pop from your project total. You need a "Best Value" reward level that you quitely push the majority of backers into, the $90 level takes attention away from the $100 level which should be your sweet spot.
Last point - Your higher level Rewards don't really work if the backer backed your first project... The availbe crew options just aren't avalible, and unless this projects greatly surpasses its funding levels your going to have alot of your higher level backers either switching to lower teirs or abandoning the project completly.
I'd like to give a word of advice - Instead of saying blah blah blah monsters blah blah blah zombies blah blah blah future, focus on this campaign and getting your previous campaign shipped.
I was going to have Ashford originally come from Brisco County in his fluff Or Crisco works too.
Never saw that show though.. wanted to, but it's not on Netflix right now
Automatically Appended Next Post: All valid points. I guess they were just trying to say "you can add the widowmakers when the project gets funded" but it does make more sense for them to not be labeled as locked, so our first stretch is actually Dr. Kilmer. So I'll get them to fix that.
I agree about the $90 level, but we have 2 backers in there now so we can't change it.
I am a little concerned that people will drop at the end if the gang they want isn't unlocked. Just gotta hope at this point that we do get as much unlocked as we can I guess. Once the Game Salute gang gets back from BGG con in the next day or 2 we'll be going over the details and see what else we can afford to unlock ahead of time.
I'm still following this with great interest (literally checking the KS twice a day to see the new total). I would think even being able to unlock another crew at 10k would be a big boost to the campaign. Because it would mean more non duplicate choices for those that backed the original KS. Since I missed out on the first one, the $100-120 value is still a fantastic deal for me, so I'm not complaining by any stretch, but I'm also really hoping this reaches the unlock for the Tranquility Crew.
I'm confident we'll get to the Tranquility Crew I mean, the campaign is only 5 days old.. 8k in 5 days ain't bad at all. We're getting into the slow middle of the campaign part now though. Once it funds we'll do another news site update all around the web and I think more new backers will want to join an already funded campaign. We probably should have made the goal $5000 instead of 10, but too late now. I'm happy with the progress and we'll do what we can with what we get Whatever doesn't get covered in the campaign will get made soon after anyway

You would have been better off following the same model for KS that Relic Knights used, i.e. 80% of the factions were already unlocked. Your stretch goals then would have been to flesh out the factions and let the campagin build upon itself.
Like it or not your no longer a loveable up and comeing game designer/publisher. Instead your a face for a known publisher so alot of the goodwill you would have gotten is gone...
Necros wrote: I was going to have Ashford originally come from Brisco County in his fluff Or Crisco works too.

Falls under the same problems that you'll have finding "Space: Above and Beyond", notably that Fox are jerks.
You're honestly better off buying the DVD boxed set for Brisco County Junior, as when Netflix had them a few years back they were all out of sorts with nothing indicating the air dates/order they were intended to be viewed in. The episodes were aired out of order on Fox, much like Firefly did.
Wait, you guys are doing a Weird West game? So, basically a Deadlands minis game? Sweet. If there is a KS for that one, count me in.
I am trying to convince my wife that it would be a good idea to jump in on this one, but not sure if she will let me with all the other holiday spending, and having just spent a bunch of cash on Adepticon.
Any chance you guys will be at Adepticon with some of your stuff for demo games?

Netflix did this with Til Death as well. That show is completely out of order on there, with episodes from every season sort of jumbled together. Very noticible on there, as they changed out the actor that played the daughter a couple of times, and it pops back and forth between the 3 girls a lot with bouncing around episodes.
I'm all souped up for this to blow past 10K... come on pledgers!
I've been eyeing the Sarissa line of buildings, figured I could get a bundle of shacks for houses, and their brick buildings for a more "civilised" downtown area.
That and a steampunk outfit for comiccon...
Bad, bad man you are.
Automatically Appended Next Post: By the way, one of those 90$ backers was me, and I fixed it, I uped to the 100$ level, plus the buildings.
Yep, the game world will be turning Weird Never played Deadlands but from what know about it yeah there will be similarities. Right now we're trying to decide if we want to go for the big box set kind of thing like Zombicide or Sedition wars (which will cost a lot to make) or do it more like an expansion where we do a small mini campaign book and then release a few new themed starters and support packs. We will probably go with the latter since it will be easier to do. Will be a while before we jump in to that though, we're going to make sure this campaign is totally done first
And yeah Sarissa does some nice kits. I have a few of them, I really like the adobe buildings.
Turns out I will own some wild west buildings from Gamecraft, Burn In Design and Sarissa when all is said and done. I guess I could do a review and pros and cons.
I can tell right now that the windows from Sarissa look better than from Gamecraft. Little details, but still.
Yeah the one thing with GameCraft is they don't have interiors, that's what makes them cheaper than others. You can add in an optional floor piece though.
Battle Flag is also really nice, maybe a little pricier depending on the building but they have lots of great detail
Yes, they all look gorgeous, but I'm still on an "on call" basis regarding my income, so I don't think I'd take the risk of missing a payment on my cards... besides, I'd rather give you some money, if you don't mind
I'll know more about the printing later today or tomorrow. Game Salute's boss was away at the board game geek con this weekend, so he should just be getting back today.
I was just going over all of the box set details with their warehouse guy yesterday, so they can have everything organized and ready to go when the boxes arrive.
So, I'll have an update / eta shortly
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ding! We're funded Dr. Kilmer is now unlocked
Oh lordy lord that reshuffle has got me in all kinds of hoots! The new bonus figures you have just revealed (well, sorta) are just going to be so characterful that I do hope we get to 50K.
Yep we were going over the goals and figured that since Father al, Marshall Stewart, Nevada Dave and the Dockside Drifters were getting made no matter what, that we should just have them unlocked anyway. Those were all models that the high lever backers got to design in the last campaign.
So now we have lots more unlocked and a whole lot of new concept art to do
Looks like it worked though, pledges shot up today by a lot
I don't think we'll have any problems getting to $20,000.. though the next couple of days might slow down a bit thanks to the holiday. Can't wait to stuff my face with stuffing tomorrow!
Now down to business. We just heard from the printer about the status of everything, and here's what they said:
Quick update on your order. We're gluing the boxes and binding the books. Everything else is printed and completed. We hope to ship by Wednesday.
Today is a Wednesday, but I'm going to assume they meant next wednesday. They are in New York, the warehouse is in New Hampshire. I'm hoping Game Salute will have the boxes and everything there at the warehouse by next Friday. Then they just have to pack up all the sets and ship em out! And once again, I'm really sorry it's taken so long.
Next order of business. Some still owe for shipping for those of you that didn't add it to your original pledge. What's going to happen is in the next week or so, Game Salute will be sending you a Paypal invoice for the shipping charge you still owe, if you owe one. Once they get the payment they'll pack up and ship your order! If you don't hear from them, you don't owe anything
Now that the light is at the end of the tunnel, please let me know ASAP if you have any questions or changes for your order. Like if you would like to select a different starter set for example. You can send me a message on Kickstarter, or email me.
We're almost there. Thanks so much for your patience!
This will be the official forum for the game, so I'll be taking down my old one.
So I'll be keeping this news post here most mostly just posting new announcements and stuff here and answering questions, and general chattyness will go in the new forum. I'll also be making a post over there all about what we're planning for the next expansion with the weird west stuff
I got my models from the first Kickstarter! I opted to forgo the printed box since I really only cared about getting the figures so I let Necros know and he had the models shipped out to me. I'm looking forward to getting some paint on these once life calms down a bit, but I'm excited to have them in my hands at least!
Sensible. Makes little sense to wait for stuff that will end up in the recycling anyway. But aren't there supposed to be stat cards with the minis? Will you be printing those yourself, or will Necros send them later?
No the naked minis offer was just naked minis.. however you can either download the PDF cards for the gang off my website, or if you really want the actual cards we can send them to you when we get em
New concept art for some more of the bonus figures
Here we have The Outlaw Clinton Wales (may change his pose to "Do ya feel lucky, varmint?" or "Get off my tumbleweeds"), Doc Emmitt, Father Al and Nevada Dave
I think the timing for this has just been a bit unlucky with the Kingdom Death juggernaut, and of course the holidays, and having it be a shorter Kickstarter run.
However, it'll still outpace the previous campaign, which is good! How long till the other gangs are made (if not all of them unlock) since you'd said you'd be having them made anyway, just not as quickly?
Not sure when the others will get done, but we'll see how it goes. Want to focus on what's unlocked first But I'm hoping we'll have our new sculpts by the end of January, so we'll probably hand out the next round soon after.
We brought in some new sculptors for this new batch, I'm excited to see what they can do
And good ole Bob Naismith will be coming back to do the Dockside Drifters (he did the Bloodwolf Tribe)
Ian Mountain will be handling most of the bonus figures.
So, hopefully everyone will be able to get their projects done all around the same time. If that happens, we can have the production figures done and sent out to Kickstarters around April, and retail in July since it'll take a while to do the boxes.
From now on, we're going to ship naked figures to the backers so they can get them sooner. Waiting for the boxes to be printed is what delayed the first campaign so bad, and people are just gonna throw the boxes out anyway. But if people really want to wait for the box, they can We're also going to be using color artwork for the character cards instead of a photo of the model, so we can get them printed up sooner to go out with the loose minis.

So the character cards will come with the figures? That would work for me.
Yeah, in fact if you download the Widowmaker cards on my website, they're pretty much what the final cards will be unless we do some art tweaks between now and when we print.
For the first campaign, we had the actual figures and bases early on, but it too so long to get the figures painted, photographed, boxes designed, proofs made and evaluated and made again and then the final boxes printed.. it was like 3 months just for a bunch of boxes that people are gonna throw out anyway
So we'll do the pretty boxes for store shelves, and this way the Kickstarters can get their minis earlier. But if people really want to wait for the actual box set they can. I'm hoping we can have all greens done by the end of January, and if that happens we should be able to have the figures around April, and then in stores around July.
Yep! A couple months before stores actually. Just based on the last time around, it took about 3 months to get the minis painted & photographed & boxes designed & printed. Will hopefully be faster this time now that I know what I'm doing, but still.
We're still going to keep the official date as July 2013 though, that way when people get their stuff early they'll be happier And just in case something crazy comes up along the way... but i'm hoping we'll have the minis ready to go around Aprilish, hopefully even sooner.
Cool I'm in for the Tranquility crew then - trying to finish my Calamity crew they seem to scale fairly well and even if they don't it's a nice set anyway.
thanks I hope we can get to $30k now for the next gang
I was thinking if we get to 30k, but not 40.. maybe we can do a poll for the zarconis, secret fist and rangers, and unlock the gang that gets the most votes.. the remaining 2 would still get done eventually but the one that wins would get included as an option for the kickstarter orders.
Necros wrote: Well ya never know, we might get lucky
We could just move the rangers up to 30k.. we already have the gatling gun 3D model done so it might be better to get the rest done.
Bingo...! And instant excitement generated
If you blow past them, I don't think it would hurt you to have moved them down, and it would Definitely help as it gives folks hope they can be unlocked in the final 5 days! I certainly think they will be at 30K. That gives you more time to get in more backers who were after the rangers and their gatling gun.
Honestly, I found the clown gang rather silly! The asian-inspired one is neat, but if the clowns didn't get reached, I don't think you'd see too many people lose sleep over it. The rangers on the other hand, people would miss... and the secret fist gang.
The clown gang could have been very neat, if painted in a very sinister way (a little bit à la Carnival of Chaos), with a support pack of degenerate hirelings, but later. The Rangers have a gatling gun...
Necros wrote: Yeah, I like the clowns but I just asked them to move the rangers up to 30k. maybe ninjas and circus freaks will go better with the weird west stuff
We just made the switch and changed the $30,000 level to Wilde's Rangers
Also added a new Blackwater Gulch Paint Set from Army Painter $25 add on, same as their usual starter set, just different colors and a different brush.
I wish I had a better answer for the old campaign :/ Just emailed the warehouse and the boxes haven't even come in yet. They were supposed to have been shipped Wednesday, maybe it was too big of an order for plain old UPS. Anyway they said they'll let me know the moment they arrive.
Hired Guns: Desperados is Mickey Finn, John Blackwood and the Norwegian
Hired Guns: Lawmen will be Kurt Wyatt, Dr. Kilmer and Wayne Duke
Hired Guns: Adventurers will be Nevada Dave, Father Al and Marshall Stewart
Hired Guns: I Can't Think Of Another Name Yet will be Clinton Wales, Doc Emmitt and Fox McFly
Well, with 36 hours to go and only 1.5K to go, 30K (Rangers!) is going to be easy as pie
It's smart putting your more popular set lower. Gets more people onboard pledging on the final day, since they KNOW the set they want is available. Best of luck in the final push!
Yeah yesterday was a pretty good day, best one so far according to Kicktraq Hope today and tomorrow are even better. If so we might even get to unlock the Secret Fist
Necros wrote: I wish I had a better answer for the old campaign :/ Just emailed the warehouse and the boxes haven't even come in yet. They were supposed to have been shipped Wednesday, maybe it was too big of an order for plain old UPS. Anyway they said they'll let me know the moment they arrive.
Neat... Another delay, imagine that.
I really really wish you had shipped before this campaing ended. I know several people that were using this as a condition for backing your newest project.
Alpharius wrote: Talk about bad timing - I could afford this on Friday, but not Wednesday!
What will the cost of the 3 man support packs be once the KS is over?
Alph, I should have some extras of the invidual models given the carry over from the original Kickstarter and this one, I'd be willing to part with them pretty easily. Or we can pull another Reaper Kickstarter if you'd like.
Catyrpelius wrote: I really really wish you had shipped before this campaing ended. I know several people that were using this as a condition for backing your newest project.
Yeah, that's my reasoning behind it. But now, no money from me, that's for sure. Also, I quit giving a damn now, whatever, I'll see when it turns up.
The Kickstarter page lists a Bundle Option, basically 3 Bonus Minis for $20, it's also a pledge level... Can I add the bundle option to an exsisting pledge level to get extra bonus minis, and if so can I do it multiple times?
Yes you can add as many add-on items as you want, so if you want 6 extra bonus figures, that's $40 for 2 3-pack add-ons
Another thing you could do if the timing is bad is just do something like the $5 dice pledge, but then add on extra stuff after the fact. I don't think they will be doing a pledge manager page open to the public like some other campaigns do, but you will be able to add on extra things before they send your orders out.

That should do it then - if I can add funds later, I'll be good to go.
Damn being a bit unwell this last week and I've almost missed this, going to go make a pledge now.
edit - in at Sheriff, mainly as not sure to stretch to Marshall yet due to certain gangs not being unlocked. Is there anyway to tell which gangs I asked for with the first Kickstarter Necros? I think I went for the original two, but not 100%
Okay. I'm in at $100.
I'm a bit bummed that it looks as if I won't be getting my Zarconis on this one, as I'd hoped... but there are enough other crews that I can make due.
When will the figures from this KS be available to the general public? (I should have specified last time I asked)
Mostly interested in the Zarconis and Fists.
Honestly, no idea right now. It will depend on if they get unlocked. We'll be getting all of the unlocked figures done first, and sculpting the remaining figures afterwards when budget permits. I'd imagine if we don't get the Secret Fist and Zarconis unlocked, they will probably get sculpted around March or so, and then available for retail late-summer or so.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, also, we're going to be adding separate Gatling Gun models as a $10 add-on, for folks that want a gun but not the whole gang
Quick question - if I put in a small 'placeholder' "Ruffian" pledge now, and later on during the pledge manager increase it to "Gunslinger", would I qualify for the 3 starter sets, and all the 'unlocked' figures as well?
Or do I have to go in at "Gunslinger" level to qualify for that?
Emailed Game Salute to ask just to be safe but I really doubt they would say no.
Since we got the rangers unlocked we're going to be adding the gatling gun as a new $10 add-on, so folks can still get it if they don't want the gang, or get extras
I think it'll be fine if you want to do the placeholder pledge, I don't think they will make that common practice but a few exceptions will be ok. Next time around I'm going to tell em I want a full 30 day campaign
11 hours to go .. $1.1k away from Doc Emmit, $6.1k away from Secret Fist .. fingers crossed
I'm really hoping we can get to the secret fist. Doc Emmitt won't be a problem but for the next gang I guess it's still anyone's ballgame. Really hoping we can get them unlocked though.
I did ask Game Salute if we get really close if they'll let it slide and they said "maybe" but that's a final decision that would probably be made after the fact.

It would be neat if it happened.
I'm not reallt sold on the Secret Fists, I was one of the apparently few people that actually wanted the Flying Zarconis early one.
Battle Flag is working on a Blackwater Rail Lines train station no idea when it will be done though.
yeah I wanted to get the zarconi's done too. We juggled the goals around based on what it seemed like more people wanted so we could get more unlocked for more people. We'll still have them sculpted though, they'll just have to be released after the fact.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So close.. less than $400 till the Secret Fist
Can't believe how well it's done today.. almost $8000 so far..!
Yeah, Game Salute just had an issue with another project and some name legalness so we're updating some of the names to be on the safe side
But hey, we got the Secret Fist unlocked now half hour to go... maybe someone will jump for the design your own gang pledge and get Shamus unlocked ...
Great stuff. Will be getting the Bloodwolf, Silent Fist, Wildes Rangers and Widowmakers.
Aurelia has already bagged the Widowmakers for herself, but I'm happy with the fist. Will use our gangs from the first Kickstarter to get up to speed with the rules when it arrives.
Thanks Gonna be real busy now getting everything sculpted.. Shamus too We're going to sell him separately for a while when he's done, for the folks that want him. He'll be part of a box set with Doc & Clint too, but I don't want to force people to buy the box set and end up with 2 of the same mini.
Thanks pretty excited. Curious to see what kind of results we get from the surveys, like how many of each set was chosen or what kind of add-on stuff people added on
Would've liked to see "Shamus," myself, to do with the Doc. Ah, well. I can't complain. With my $100, I'm getting 11 bonus minis, which is 2 more gangs... add in the bonus minis from the first KS, and I've got a TON of gangs, now.
Looks like I migh need to bump my pledge up another $20, though... I've got 4 gangs I really like the looks of (Rangers, Widowmakers, Secret Fist & Drifters). Damn you, Necros! LOL
I just finished assigning all the sculpts Trying to have the same person do everything for 1 box set so they will all match better.
Ian Mountain is doing Dr. Kilmer & Rooster Morrison
Pedro Ramos is doing Nevada Dave, Father Al and Marshall Stewart
Brother Vinni doing Doc, Shamus & Clinton
This just leaves the secret fist, still deciding who to give them too.. didn't think they would get unlocked
With the 3D guys I'm having them develop a standard set of weapons so in the future everything will match better, we can get 3D prints / resin casts of the weapons done for traditional sculptors to include in their greenstuffing later on too.
Well, the good news is, I was expecting the starter sets to all be $35 each, but Game Salute was able to order enough printed things to get the costs down so they'll be $30
Wilde's Rangers will probably be more though, since it will come with the gatling gun.. no idea yet how much that one will be
I know its too late for the Kickstarter, but how about a special character based on El Mariachi, the character Antonio Banderas plays in the Desperado & Once Upon a Time in Mexico trilogy?
I'd love to see a wrassler figure inspired by Cactus Jack at some point. A three pack could be Cactus Jack, The Undertaker and maybe Hacksaw Jim Dugan, or Dusty Rhodes.
I just updated the PDF rulebook. The old version was almost an exact copy of what our printed rulebook will look like, but wasn't exactly inkjet-printer-friendly being full color. So, I updated the "Web Rulebook" to be a more plain text version, with just a few photos and diagrams. This will be a lot easier on your printers, and also be easier to read on your screen or handheld devices / tablets. You can download the updated rulebook PDF on my website here:
That being said, Game Salute has just launched the Blackwater Gulch section of their online store. You can pre-order all of our starter sets plus the new full color printed rulebook. Check it out:
The original starter sets will be available for retail in January, and the sets from the new Kickstarter will be available "this summer"
With this new rulebook update, there was only 1 minor rules change regarding attacking with two 1-handed weapons. Basically, when you attack with 2, your first attack will be made like a normal attack with the usual To Hit target number. Your second attack will be at a +1 To Hit. The old method was both attacks would be at a +1 To Hit. I changed it because it seemed like if you managed to take out your target with the first shot, and didn't need to make a 2nd shot, then you shouldn't have been penalized for only shooting once. So this way seemed more fair. Anyway, this rule is also reflected in the printed rulebook, I just didn't have a chance to update the web rules till now

Any idea when we can expect the stuff from the original kickstarter to ship?
The ETA is "we're working on it" .. But I think they're packing up the orders about now, been getting a lot of emails from them about what this or that pledge level gets
Here's what I just got about the ETA from the warehouse manager
Your project requires quite a bit of work and materials have been coming in sporadically. It is in the queue and under way. This campaign is not typical so I can not estimate when it will complete. I will send you confirmation when the last packages are on the dock awaiting pick up.

I appreciate the update, but its not that reassuring of a reply.

Yeah, that pretty much translates to "dont hold your breath guy, its gonna be a real long time".
Bummer...but then again its been what, 8 or 9 months since the Kickstarter...are a few more weeks really going to matter?
Not sure, I'll ask about the polls. I think they probably still haven't even gotten the funds yet, the last one took about 3 weeks for Amazon & Kickstarter to finish everything. I think they're also deciding if they want to do a pledge manager website or not.
In other news, got the first pics of one of the new minis Here's Father Al from Pedro Ramos

Necros, is it going to be different for the current campaign? I.e, when he says "your project requires quite a bit of work" and "this campaign is not typical so I can not estimate when it will complete", is there something different this time around that will make the turn-around time meet it's target from the Kickstarter?

No the issues with the first campaign are much different. It's actually been pretty confusing for them because I made so many wacky pledge levels. Like, one guy gets 1 starter and 1 building, the next guy gets 2 starters and 1 building, then the next gets 1 starter and 4 buildings. So pretty much unless you ordered just 1 starter set, your order was unique and takes extra time to organize and pack up.
For the new campaign, it was all designed by Game Salute to their specs so they're in control of pretty much everything. That frees me up to just worry about designing the game and that kind of stuff
Yeah I agree. But I think the issue is they have a lot of other games too and till now they've pretty much only done boxed games, but for mine they have to gather up all the minis, count out the bases, get the cards & quickstart rules, pack em in baggies and stuff em in the box with the battlefoam sheets, shrinkwrap, etc. The boxed games are mostly all done with companies like Panda, so they just have to grab the board game off the shelf and ship it out. For me they're doing everything but casting the minis.
So yeah, like everyone else I'm just waiting and hoping they start shipping soon.
Cyporiean wrote:its still only 248 orders though, it shouldn't be *that* hard to manage.
It's a good point, though, and that's why I was wondering what the hang-up was.
I mean, heck, I sorted and packed 40 different unique sets of Dakka Dice, and it took me 2 evenings.
If I was doing it at my work, I feel like I could do 6 times that in definitely no more than a week... so that's why I was wondering.
If it was just Necros trying to manage things with real life/day job, I'd be more understanding. But Game Salute has been in business for a few years, they should be able to fulfill 248 unique orders in a few hours.
For transparency: OTL mostly consists of myself and MiskatonicAlum, when a restock comes in (Usually around 2,000 miniatures) we have to sort bits/bag them/sort into labeled bins. This process takes about 5 hours. After that stage, I'll sort them into being blisters, boxes, or starter sets depending on what is generally needed all with basic labeling or proper labels/shrink wrap, this will take about 1-3 hours. When a customer order comes in (IE a few boxes/blisters), it takes about 5 minutes to sort/pack/label the shipping box if USPS is working, retailer/distributor orders usually take longer due to the size.
I have to agree. Each box set should not be getting built per order. If they aren't breaking it down into logical steps that is a much bigger problem. I'm a backer, so I'm directly affected by these continued delays.
Also, that answer from GameSalute is in no way acceptable. Its a dodge. And is extremely worrying. Game Salute should have a plan for organizing and completing this stuff, and that plan should have one or more expected completion date. That they either do not or refuse to provide it is not good.

I agree completely, thats how it came off to me as well. If it is because they are doing something thats new to them they are learning a bit from it, and next run will be smoother and faster.
Necros...I do feel for you, being stuck in the middle of all this, dont envy that position at all...but be aware that we do know where the delay is and that theres little you can do about it.
They're working hard to get it done. And yeah next time around they'll have a system in place and this won't happen again. Minis are a whole new thing for them so I guess there were some growing pains. I know they have several other kickstarters to take care of too and the warehouse guys have all been on overtime getting everything done.
But.. in other news, got some WIP shots of the Dockside Drifters from Bob Naismith They're not done yet, but here they are so far
Ill give you credit, your choice of sculptors doesnt let down. I have a feeling its going to get you a lot of people with multiple gangs. Then again, isnt that the great part of skirmish games...small numbers of minis allow the gaming dollar to go farther.
I use my own website to host the images.. www.blackwatergulch.com .. I could try putting them somewhere else.. maybe I could do flickr or something.
He's not finished, needs a few tweaks like straightening out the foot and adding the tab between the feet and some other tweaks, but that's more or less how he'll look. For the 3D sculpts anyway we're also going to have a standard set of guns so that they will match and always be the same size. Maybe later on we can do 3D prints of the separate guns and make resin casts for them for the traditional sculptors to use too.
I haven't heard anything about the shipping :( I'll go bug them again. Right now I'm as much in the dark as everyone else, just waiting and waiting...
If your website, and other sites are work blocked for Caty, Flickr is going to be as well. There's nothing wrong with hosting them on your site (I can see them), but it might not be too bad to rehost them here on dakka. You'd still own copyright, but it would allow people who are work blocked to see the images, since we can get to dakka anyways. Like I know flickr and photobucket (and most image hosting sites) are work blocked for me, but since I'm on dakka, anything with a dakka url won't be
Though my work hasn't blocked a single game company, so I can generally see those images.
Necros wrote: I use my own website to host the images.. www.blackwatergulch.com .. I could try putting them somewhere else.. maybe I could do flickr or something.
You should host them on Dakka Dakka, the site of the Official Blackwater Gulch Forum!
Alfndrate wrote: Also MM, is it because the dual axe drifter looks kinda pigeon toed?
I'm going based on memory (pics are blocked for me from work, too... I can only see Photobucket hosted images while at work). I seem to recall that he looked off balance, though. Like he was about to fall over.
Shot Game Salute an email a bit ago about the first campaign and this is what I got:
BrookM…
Here's our warehouse manager's status report: "This project has been complex, considering we have needed to do all of the assembly. We are nearing the end of it but I don't have any firm dates on shipping. We are doing all that we can, each day."
I hope you can be patient a little longer.
Thanks
David
I'm worried now okay, they've been packing this stuff for over two weeks now and still no firm dates in sight?!
