Playing The Long war mod for Xcom Enemy within still, and as of now it seems I have a somewhat solid grip on the situation. Laser weaponry all but unlocked and soon Il begin working towards Xeno biology, after that improved body armour and other fun things

I think I got the last ship upgrade on starbound, just looking around for a glitch village to finish my last quest, not sure if that will unlock more upgrades, more quests, or nothing at present. As it stands now, aside from the one quest, I have to decide if its still fun exploring or not and if there's any cool buildings/hideouts/whatevers I wanna build before looking into another game. Bit reluctant to build anything as the game will probably wipe at least one more time before official non-beta deployment, may have to back to Valkyria or Agarest.

Getting owned in 'xcom: enemy within'. I was about to have a successful run of a base assault in impossible ironman and then spotted 3 floaters and 6 chrysallids all at once. I killed them with a loss or two and then after finishing them off had to face down 3 more chrysallids which i killed probably 2 of. At that point my last guy was just poisoned and died from poisoning. I was enraged and unbelievably ****ed because all that time spent successfully getting my forces working and very elite was all for nothing because of one or two dumb moves and ridiculous enemy spams. I might even start using snipers with battle scanner for once (provided i get a sniper to lieutenant rank). Anyway that was a mission that would have kept about 4 countries from auto-leaving the council and i would have one left in the next month. I basically play a mission or two with mostly idiots as a very much B team. Opponents manages to light a car on fire, poison a couple of my guys and then force them to panic while behind the flaming car (it was a highway bridge mission so only cars as cover basically). So basically i lost 1-2 guys from that and 3-4 guys panicking per each of my turns. Gotta love xcom's BS panic sometimes. At most i got maybe one kill from that mission in possibly one of the worst missions i've had in a long, long time. Poison, flaming cars and panic equals a really, really bad time.
Anyway i'll have another go of it. Hopefully i can get one successful run of the game on impossible ironman again like i had last time and not get bored of it this time.

Just finished up playing xcom enemy within on impossible ironman again and keep getting owned. Same old crap to where i may explode from rage.
Some missions just don't work out and the mass panic from squadmates is just insane. For several times now i've had missions about to be finished and then get killed by the last guy or two. It's freaking obnoxious. An entire game of careful planning all undone by a mixture of bad luck and failed criticals. There's nothing worse than missing a flanked baddie or hitting somebody you're face to face with and doing only 2 damage. Ugh so much rage right now. This game also seriously needs to have a line of sight meter to tell you if moving somewhere will give you line of sight to some baddies or not. Seriously i can't tell you how many times i thought i had line of sight only for a dinky post to be in the way.

I've had that LoS thing happen, it does suck. Say, 50% chance to hit seems a bit..dicey... lets go around for a flank... and I can't see him now and will get executed..great!
Finished my last starbound mission, guess that's it for now. Maybe I'll make a barely-winnable dungeon on my starter planet and put good gear at the end, gotta survive the dungeon of DOOM if you want your loot!

There's always "that guy" who does it. Like that guy that who can beat Battletoads in 30 minutes but it is not for us normal humans to do. It's certainly not worth getting upset over is what I'm saying.

No games are really worth getting upset over, but a lot can be rage-inducing nonetheless, and justifiably so. The fact that impossible ironman is made to be extremely difficult doesn't mean that you shouldn't be able to get angry with it, especially if you've managed to get so far.
There's also the fact that, as mentioned, bad luck can and will ruin plans, regardless of difficulty. Sometimes it's not just that the game's hard, it's that a string of bad luck with no connection whatsoever to the difficulty is what's defeating you. Bad luck plaguing a run of anything is bad enough, but spoiling an otherwise well-played hardest-difficulty attempt is fair rage-bait.

Actually i was about to manage it one time i merely got bored of it and started a new game. Turned out that was a mistake.
Don't bother with the hard missions like portent (french psychic girl) or even the board the train mission (gangplank i think it was). One just forces you to fight a ton of enemies and the other puts you on a ten turn timer to clear out a whole train of baddies and put transponders on 4 points as well as activate the train at the end.
I basically get carapace armor by month 2 and laser weapons with alien grenades in month 3 but it just gets too tough (even though i captured at least one floater, at least one sectoid, 2 mutons and at least one outsider). Oh and screw low ranks as they panic to anything esp. muton's ability to panic people that attack them. I lost some missions last game but it was salvageable somewhat till the end. I sent 5 rookies on an exalt mission and it was going well till a rocket hit me right in the face and on two of my guys. Didn't even think he had line of sight and he didn't even see my dudes.

Been player TOTW FO3 some more, I fin shed the main story-line. Super lackluster, it reminded me more of the story for some cookie-cutter FPS, than for an RPG. FO:NV's storyline was much better. And sneaking around metro tunnels killing mutants reminded me of the metro series, who's story was pretty awesome IMO, so no comparisons have done FO3 any justice in my eyes. I quite enjoy wandering the wastes though, although I liked FO:NVs deserts more (seeing a pattern here ). The bobble-heads are an odd choice, I personally like the implant system from NV better (limited number, and cost caps), but considering I'll be able to have those, the bobbleheads, and the training perk, it's unlikely that I won't be 8-10 in every stat by the end of the game.

I think I need to join an AA like society for mount and blade warband. I have now stocked up 850 hours in an incredibly short amount of time. I have 5 or 6 concurrent games in 5 or 6 mods. Let's see:
Brytenwalda...check - probably about 1/6 the way through on my 2nd go through.
Prophesy of pendor...check 3rd go through almost done, 2 more factions to go!
A clash of kings....check I control the north and Tyrosh, about to declare war on sisterton
the japanese one....check - 2 small clans to go
Láigle.....check - just started
AD1257....check fighting england as a scottish vassal- jesus it's hard
warsword...abandoned
native...abandoned
My fave mods are POP and AD1257...so far with Láigle looking to join them when it's more finished. A clash of kings is also quite good and the japanese one.
I have played about 2 other games for about 1/2 an hour each since I got this game. Jesus I need help.

Ok so i've got another run of xcom: enemy within going and i'm on month 2 with laser weapons (pretty much at the start of the month). Oddly enough it was the floaters i captured first this time. Interrogating floaters basically gives you basic armor research boost. I think i'll hold off on the base assault till about month 3 this time.
Currently i'm at the end of month 2 and just getting the Triad missions. Not sure if i should just skip his 2nd mission completely. It's really freaking tough. Not to mention there's a mission right after it so if your guys are in medbay or dead there's no chance to fix them up right away.
I've got around 3-4 floaters that i've captured and did so immediately. I also got an outsider pretty fast and a sectoid somewhere along the way (though he kept running away). Hopefully these research boosts help provided i last that long. I'll see if i can capture a muton really quickly to maybe use some of the plasma weapons as fast as i can. It's rather funny how you can actually have a similar level of tech as the aliens if you really work hard to keep up.

Ok so everything was going fine in impossible ironman with xcom: enemy within even with losing a support major in gangplank (which i lost due to turn issues but no big deal).
Problem right after the mission i had a base defense mission so my dudes were in medbay. Once again i couldn't equip all my guys fully because once again medbay and all that other crap. So basically i lose, xcom is automatically toast and a game that would otherwise have worked with carapace armor, laser weaponry, a couple alien grenades, a successful alien base raid (not sure if that triggers an upcoming xcom base defense), multiple satellites coming within the next month and multiple aliens to interrogate (including sectoid commander, muton, thin man and others having every interrogation possible up to that point) is basically lost in an instant due to one failed mission. Oh and facing two cyberdiscs, a sectoid commander, a mechtoid, mutons and chrysallids with only squaddies at best in carapace armor and some laser weapons is absolute bull at the end of month 3.

More TOTW, just found the station and went to new vegas. The "nine years later" was a nice touch, mean it's not completely immersion breaking. On the other hand, I'm so geared up I can just bee-line to vegas, so I have to stop myself from doing that. I'm ignoring the main quest for now and focusing on the mods I added, specifically new vegas bounties. And I'm living the nevada skies mod, especially the sandstorms, as they aren't just visual and audio, by have an effect on stats too (-7 Per, -2 Ag, and +70 sneak to anything in it). And rad-storms are downright terrifying. I really hope there is weather in FO4, or at least in the game Obsidian will hopefully make. I also bought homeworld remastered on steam, so I'll be playing that when it downloads. And I'm currently trying to get my brother to get valkyaria chronicles because it's an awesome game, and currently only $5. Automatically Appended Next Post: And I also picked up recettear, because it was on sale (80% off of a bundle of three of that devs games).

In other runs, I've always prioritised picking up the protonic inversion axe from the VR chamber in that DLC. The PIA is a beast, durable, and can be repaired with the common-as-dirt regular protonic axes--which themselves aren't too bad--that lobotomites get. Also, Christine's COS Sniper Rifle. That combination is rather bloody good; pick stuff off easily from a distance with the sniper, and pull out the PIA for those "OH SHI-" moments or bashing roboscorpions to death.

I would esp. since petroglyph but they've never been able to balance 3 factions since the oldest command and conquer back when they were westwood. They always make one faction super unique and super OP. I'm gonna take a wild guess that it's the goo this time around.
More importantly i don't think my computer is up to spec to run this game.
-----
In other news 'endless legend' is on sale currently and i will definitely buy that one. If i can i will also get grey goo but it's looking unlikely esp. due to minimum requirements.
-----
Been playing more xcom: enemy within on impossible ironman. I've been having a bad run of going engineers first. I thought i could cover some nations better that way esp. if i held out for south america for super quick autopsies. Turns out autopsies are nothing if you get enough scientists. It's really annoying the balance you have to have with everything. You need heavies and experienced soldiers to unlock the officer training school, you need the alien containment facility, you need enough engineers or else you can't get satellites, workshops for more engineers or make any of the nice weapons you need (or the skeleton key for that matter). Admittedly i've been neglecting gene mods but if i remember they're expensive (at least early on) and need lots of autopsies to work well enough.
Then there's the really bad luck i've been having today with the game. Perhaps i'm being more reckless but i missed two shots in a row while flanking an enemy and he killed two of my guys in full cover one after the other. I was speechless over the BS that was.
Anyway i'm tired for now of xcom. Maybe i'll paint some skaven or perhaps build more of them. At least that's more calming.

Its just one little DC but yeah... some of the DLC makes the game *even more* hilarious
I don't think the main story mode has guns, and the power armor is specific to a DLC, but yeah some of the DLC stuff is preety good. Thor's hammer, the counter strike knife, all kinds of references and gags.

I've been slowly playing through Jaws of Hakkon, the Dragon Age Inquisition DLC.
It's kinda sad, really. - I was playing the game on my old pc, it being barely playable, but I was utterly gripped by it and the story. Now I have a new PC, the game looks and plays gloriously. But, I can't really be bothered with it now, the DLC's storyline is just well, dull. I'm really hoping there's a plot twist to make it interesting but I don't even know when I'm going to struggle through there to make it interesting.
I've been jumping into Batman: Arkham City at times too. Played it through when it came out, completed it, but lost my saves and I've been slowly playing through it again.
I'm downloading Shadows of Mordor now, which is taking well, nearly a day far. - 45gb is a bit crazy, even for modern day games. I really hope this isn't because it's some terribly optimised console bluray port ala Assassins Creed or Force Unleashed...
Basically, I'm biding time waiting for The Goddamn Batman to come out.

Couriers Stash is just all of the pre-order bonuses; they aren't that impressive.

Old World Blues: I did not like the tone of this one at first, but once I was able to write it off as the eccentricities of a malfunctioning AI rather than turning the world into a joke, I liked it. I really like the quest reward for completing its main quest, if you download a mod to
Dead Money: I have one very particular complaint about this DLC, and if I knew there was a mod to fix that complaint well, I'd certainly play it again. As is, I quit halfway through because .
Really, that's my biggest complaint about the Fallout DLC. Skyrim did a good job of integrating the DLC worlds into the main world, so that you can stop part way through the DLC questline to go do something else, or have your companions from one travel with you when you go do another. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, on the other hand, force you to play things through to the end. If you go do Dead Money, you have to finish Dead Money before you can return to New Vegas.

That... can sometimes happen. Dark indeed. My poor little vault scientist is having no remorse from her kills, although she isn't engaging targets as actively as some of my other characters have been known to. Going to max out science, medicine, and repair before bothering with combat skills... working out so far. That little eyebot ED-E or w/e is pretty freaking useful. Yeah, from the premise of Honest Hearts I thought it was going to be about escorting the caravan across a long, thin map leading to the city of Zion. A short, fat map with no city isn't what I was hoping for.

Same old xcom: enemy within in impossible ironman difficulty and just like before getting owned just as bad. I hate how any failed missions can be pretty much near lose game status in council nation withdrawal by only the end of month 2. I basically had laser weaponry and everything was cool but a lost mission or two. Meh things were going downhill hard anyway. It's just sad that if panicking nations wasn't such an issue i could totally have just dealt with upgrading my weapons and equipment as i always handled alien ship crashes ok.

I loathed Dead Money, but only because the stealth melee character I used for it encountered a documented bug where Ghost People suddenly became godly perceptive for the rest of the DLC. Stealth was no longer a thing I could do, and there was no running and hiding, only standing and fighting--which when you're being hit by gas bombs and throwing spears is rather difficult. I ended up saying "feth this", and activating God Mode for the rest of the DLC. I don't exactly plan to go back, not just because of the bug, but also because it's easily my least favourite of the DLCs for pretty much every reason. I hate the mechanics, the premise, the setting, and half the characters.

I feel like Dead Money and The Pitt both fulfill the same niche, as a sort of "darkest hour" in the middle of the story. Roleplaying a character who got in over their head and wants to get back into the relative pleasantness of the wasteland, it works for me. If I knew that when it was all over, I'd be able to , either in the course of the DLC or due to a well done mod, I would have been happy to play through it.

Been playing through Mount and Blade: Warband a lot lately. The mods for the game are actually pretty cool, especially the warhammer and Game of Thrones ones. Also been slowly playing through lesser known titles such as Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi and EYE: Divine Cybermancy.
Looking into Arma: Cold War Assault now that it's on sale (on a budget). This is going to sound like a weird question, but is this game based on a real war?

Arma is the continuation of the first Operation Flashpoint in spirit, made by the same creators when they couldn't retain the OP-FP name. ARMA is the successor, though ARMA 3 is all futuristic and gak, boring.

Broke down and bought Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition when it was on sale for around 7 bucks a few days ago. It runs fine which is, uhh, more than can be said for a game installed from one of the original discs of yore. I'm sure the GoG updated version worked fine too but for 7 bucks i'll buy the game again why not. I spent too long rolling ability scores for my party but I've been pretty casual about my gaming lately and weak characters mean more reloads from horribly unlucky deaths (though those still happen often enough). I've gone with kind of an odd party, mostly so due to some last minute substitutions: Cavalier Berserker (half-orc!) Cleric/thief Avenger druid Skald (bard) Dark Moon Monk As expected, the two-handed-sword favoring berserker chunks things all the time, with the paladin doing her best to keep up, though she'll probably leave him in the dust against dragons and demons. The cleric thief is versatile as heck, keeping people alive and disarming traps like a boss.. the only drawback is that he's not great at skulking just yet (and its a shame as 19 strength quarterstaff backstabs are hilarious!). The Avenger has extra spells to make him more magically offensive, which combines nicely with the slightly expanded druid spellbook in IWD, I look forward to the time that he can cast web and polymorph into a sword spider (immune to webs) before going to deadly work The monk needs a few more levels to come into her own, but her spell like abilities are already helping to keep her alive, eventually her detect illusion will be burning off certain buffs and defenses left and right. The Skald has barely lifted a finger, I'm having a hard time finding decent spells (no shop with scrolls in it yet) so she's been huddling in chain mail singing as the day is long... and when her improved song is adding 2 AC, 2 to hit, and 2 damage to all of her allies, she really need do nothing else. Eventually she'll backup the avenger druid on magic offense and debuffs. I think I managed to shoehorn in most of the classes and kits I wanted to play around with this time, probably could have made the party a bit more robust with one or two more traditional choices but.. I think they'll do fine. If there are any higher level wizard duel type battles like are found in BG2+, the bard may struggle to rise to the task... but we'll see.

Currently I'm running a Butcher of everything in NV. Got the Desert Combat Armor from Honest Hearts, and a variety of helmets I'm using. I've got Guns and Melee maxed out, and at level 36 it's looking like I might be able to max everything.
On the Lonesome Road Right now, finally got a new weapon to replace my Bumper Sword. I still hate Deathclaws, even at my level with my gear. I normally try and use a scoped Hunting Rifle to snipe my opponent, but when it comes down to it, I'll use that silenced SMG, a Hunting Revolver, or a Marksman Carbine.
For Melee I've got a Blade of the West and the Protonic Inversal Axe. Jury Rigging makes repair easy and I've having a great time so far

Feth that I want to play a ranger. Rangers are my favourite rpg class and archetype.
Not sure whether to go with a human Aragorn style ranger, or an Elf Tauriel Ranger. Can humans make good rangers?
Also, I got stuck on the tutorial and had to look up tutorials on how to complete the tutorial. Was trying to slot a spell into Xan' s quick slot, but I was clicking and clicking but it wouldn't do anything. And Xan, the passive aggressive jerk, kept complaining...
You haven't cast a spell on Belt yet.
You haven't cast a spell on Belt yet.
You haven't cast a spell on Belt yet.
You haven't...
Eventually I figured out that I'd gone into the spell book and messed around with the memorized spells. When you slot a new spell, it seems you need to rest before you memorize it. Which explains why I couldn't use the quick slots - I'd deleted everything from Xans short term memory.

Ahh never even tried the tutorial, although its probably a good idea. Spells per day are a thing, not my favorite thing, but a thing. Basically early on wizards can do some impressive things but they peter out fast. Everyone can toss missile weapons though, even if your wizards are throwing out a pitiful 1-4 damage wit their slings, it can add up. Good news though, rangers are technically 'warriors' which means they're in the same basic department as fighters, paladins, and so on. High hp, decent armor selection, etc. Humans can be decent rangers, though in 2nd edition (for the most part) you only pick human if your chosen class can't be anything else (or theme/roleplaying). It goes Human < half elf < elf/dwarf/halfling/gnome > half-orc(conditionally, and they're only an option in the enhanced edition. their ability to get 19 str and 19 con makes them a bit OP... but probably can't be rangers).' Some classes are human only though, like monk and paladin, and humans can dual class (its similar to the multiclassing of other races but you do one, then the other, and eventually get both, probably not recommended for first time bg1 playthru though). As for what kind of ranger... there are a few kits you can pick from if you've got enhanced edition (don't think they had them in the first game, or maybe not all of them..) but if you do have the option you could be a ranger, stalker, beast master, or archer. Stalker gets a bit more like a thief they can sneak better and eventually get to backstab, beast master is maybe best left for another run.. I dunno if they're weak but they may be a little more complicated, archer is a freaking god of the bow. Ranged combat is really potent in BG1, allows you to kill stuff without taking damage and so on.. and the archer is the king of it. Potentially a fighter with bow grand mastery could keep up.. but you already said you wanted a ranger Elves get bonuses to using bows and up to 19 dexterity so.. probably your best bet for archer. You can still do a human though, your call, the game can totally be beaten without 100% maximum optimization. Some people like to go with their first batch of ability scores, or not reroll very much. The game is a harsh mistress, and especially so in your first run. Depending on how you feel about it, you may want to reroll your ability scores till you get a decently high total (and a good 18/xx for str, maybe /50+ though /90something is ideal). Decently high is probably mid-80's to low 90's.. but it can take a while to get the later. As long as your first three scores are pretty high up there (as a ranger at least), you shouldn't be gimping yourself. For warrior classes: strength makes you better at hitting and hurting stuff in melee, warriors are even better at it. Normally str caps at 18 but warriors get a special / after theirs (if they have 18 at all) that can go from 01-00(100). Every 15 points or so is another tier of better strength (+hit, +damage, carry weight) so a warrior with 18/50 has more to hit and damage bonuses than a non-warrior with 18. 18/00 is pretty ridiculous (but also really really hard to roll). Dexterity helps your ranged attacks and modifies your armor class (going down is better in this game, same with THACO, just get used to it ). I believe starting around 15 each point gives you -1 armor class, so something like -4 at 18. This is going to apply even in heavy armor so don't skimp here! It also gives you bonuses to hit with ranged weapons too. Constitution starts giving bonuses at 15, and 16. At 16 non warriors have gotten as much out of it as they will(though gnome/halfling/dwarf can benefit from up to 18 as they get bonus saves from it) with +2 hp a level. Warriors though can benefit from 17 and 18 going up to +4 hp/level. If you ever manage to raise constitution to 20, you get regeneration (there's an item, would be possible for dwarfs or half orcs but maybe not your ranger). Int modifies lore, chance to learn spells for mages, and maybe some other stuff, keep it over 9 to use wands (that aren't mage specific) and so you aren't illiterate Wisdom also modifies lore, and can grant bonus spells for divine spell casters (rangers get some spells eventually, like those of the druid). I think the game is going to make you put a minimum score here anyway so I don't think you can mess it up. Cha isn't really super important in the game. As long as you have one character on your party with 15 or better, you'll do alright. Make sure to have that character do the talking to quest givers and the shop. Aside from roleplaying aspects, this is probably a relatively safe dump stat for you as a ranger. As far as tips for playing, if you've ever played an MMO think of this similar to raiding... you dont' want to just barge in on things, pulling one or two monsters at a time is much much safer. Even if you can engage an entire group of enemies... often this will just result in more damage and having to rest more often. You're going to want at least one rogue who can handle traps and locks, being able to sneak and backstab is great, but those first things are paramount.. some of the traps are ridiculously deadly, and some of the locks guard the best loot. Gonna need at least one druid/cleric and one mage, the rest is up to you. A less balanced party may excel in some fights and struggle in others. Save a lot. I could say some other things but saving a lot lets you mitigate them while still encountering the surprise for yourself Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, if you get to be having problems with batches of monsters that you can't just pull a couple of... get your whole party armed with ranged weapons and have a druid (or your ranger eventually) cast entangle between you and them. Most will get stuck and you can pick them off. Wizard spell web does a similar thing. A ranger that's good with a bow can also do some pretty nasty hit and fade attacks by stealthing, moving to where you can just see one enemy of a batch, firing an arrow and immediately leaving sight of them before it even hits. Often you can restealth and if successful, the monsters won't know where to find you

Made a Half Elf Chaotic Good Archer-Ranger named Nyssa (because there was a fething awesome portrait of a woman with blue Celtic style war paint, feathers in her hair and fur clothing). The games default biography says that I'm an orphan adopted and raised by a scribe in candlelight keep or something, but I'm anxious to get out and explore the world. So in my imagination, my characters motivation is to travel the wilderness and reconnect with her Elven heritage or something.
I'm a little confused by the Ranger subclasses though. I want a Ranger-Druid hybrid with archery skills and spells. But if I choose the archer subclass, do I lose the Ranger abilities? (Druid spells at lvl 8 or so).
I rolled 93 for my stats. Took me 10 min though.

No, I think all of the ranger kits get the spells at the same level. Two of them get extra spells. I'm not sure ranger/druid is going to work out too well for you in the BG series. Druids can only really multiclass with fighter, and ranger/cleric multi can't have bows as it's restricted by cleric.
Rangers do get some spells though, and they're akin to the druid list, but you won't likely be bombing things like a standard/avenger druid. You won't miss it, the archer has some fantastic bonuses when it comes to shooting that bow...

Yes. You can. Just snatched this from a wiki, but I think it should be accurate: Lvl 1 spells. Cure Light Wounds Entangle Remove Fear Bless Shillelagh Lvl 2 spells. Slow Poison Barkskin Lvl 3 spells. Cure Disease Cure Medium Wounds Summon Insects However, if you only play baldur's gate 1, the level cap is going to allow you to *maybe* hit level 8 to get the one spell before the end of the game. If you do most/all sidequests. Moving into BG2, however (and it's an awesome game if you like the first one), you'd get to use all of the spells for sure.

Dishonored. I went back and replayed that game seeing as it had a trailer at E3. It holds up quite well and was a decent romp. Points? Ah, it wears its inspiration from Thief openly. The American accents are really jarring seeing as its trying to be industrialisation London (instead of say New York). There's still too many runes and cash in that game to actually use, which ruins the economics of upgrading. Stealth becomes rather moot once you have freeze time / blink - I could spend all day waiting for you to move guard, or just blink behind you or freeze time and hold the sprint key (though freezing time's great come to think of it).
I did like the story overall, but felt like your choice about whether to be lethal or not lethal to your target should have had more impact. I made it through the game not killing anyone, bar the game thinking some red on red combat was apparently my fault. Now yes the chaos system is good, but I'd have liked it if previous missions carried on to the next more. They do it to an extent I noticed, but well heh, I guess I just always want more. Replaying it always meant that I could pick up on sequel drops and references to other things going on too.
Now onto Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which I picked up in the Steam sale there. Thoughts? Its definitely not on the second game's level. The story arcs feel kind of rushed, whereas I'd like it if you'd spend a bit more time trudging about one place more then being shown something new (for instance you make it to the starting town way too soon). Overall though its interesting to see a different setting for the series and find out more about the universe at large (for instance the corporations and just how they managed to succeed any form of government). 6-7/10 for that one. =P

You really should go for 85+. That's the bare minimum to get any decent character.
Also, get Charisma 16. Regardless on your character. It helps all dialogue options, if memory serves.

Aye I do feel at times that the difficulty is a tad unfare. In that well you can run into a fight with full health and shields and then immediately go down to almost dead. That happened a lot with that first boss, though I wound up doing hit and run attacks on him - running up, shooting him a few times, then backing off to recharge the shields and take an enemy down to low life so that when I did die I could respawn. I don't remember dying so much in the other games, though maybe its just that I'm out of touch.
Snipers are bent as hell BTW. If you can keep the enemy away from you then you're fine to sit all day popping easy head shots. Bonus points that if you don't kill an enemy this way they wind up suffocating (or apparently they do, the damage they take from that barely ever kills them. That perhaps explains why there's an achievement for spending five minutes with zero air and surviving...).
Edit: And they all have Australian accents. ...All of them!

With the turret I'd throw it down whenever it recharged and didn't have to care much about what it did. With the Gladiator her power is a bit more personal and at this point in the game it hasn't been buffed enough to seem to have a point. I forget that it exists a lot of the time actually. That and its really annoying as whenever you pull it out you have to stop firing for a few seconds and you can't aim with it.
Hmn, perhaps I should have gone with the sniper, but the issue is that I think they'd be even spongier than the supposed tank. A lot of the combat can start out at long range, but mostly it takes place at close quarters, so snipers are great whenever you can use them, though you'll need to be better at close quarters.
At least however each character has their own dialogue. For instance the gunslinger won't have the mechanic come onto them, whilst the gladiator eventually starts a romantic relationship with her. I can see myself going back and playing through it all again with a different character if the game's good, though I went for the gladiator first time as she's the narrator.

I'm debating picking up System Shock 2, and actually finishing it!
But otherwise, I'm playing BG2:EE. And I've hit a brick wall due to not saving every 5 minutes! As well as rerunning IWD1.

I find the trick is to save every few seconds or scout extensively. And to also make an extra save before doing anything *remotely* big. Games like to foil your plans, hard.
It's amusing how nasty some encounters are if you just blunder into them.

Well, Nisha is going to be besties with Jack sooner or later, so I've got that to look forward to.
And yeah, Athena and the mechanic are together as of Tales from the Borderlands.

Bedlam, a game on Early Access on Steam. I've played about three hours and am on the last level. What can I say about it? Well it definitely feels like an Early Access game. The levels are fairly open and a lot of time you're only given vague instructions on where to go. Repeatedly quick loading breaks levels at times (you'll quick load a lot). I don't know how the devs expect people to play their game, but running through levels sprinting past all the enemies seems like the way to go. Eugh, and don't even start me on that last level. The first time I loaded it up it crashed. Now its working, but on a laptop that could run the game at a fairly decent framerate with everything cranked up, now I'm barely managing 10 FPS with everything way down. Chalk that up to that level being huge and the devs thinking that spawning a crap ton of NPCs (who I don't think despawn) was a good idea.
Aye, so it could be a lot more polished in those regards. Too much dying from not knowing what the hell I was supposed to be doing at points. Eugh, even worse that the game removes the ability to save at certain sections making you repeat the whole level at times. ¬¬
What's good about it? Well for all that its unpolished I'd say that its still a fair game. OK, the biggest positive thing I can say? Woah, actual Scottish people doing the voice acting in a game (and who aren't playing the generic Glaswegian thug character). A lot of this game's going to be lost on people who aren't from here. Like say how Trainspotting was dubbed when shown abroad I mean (on that note it does have the same tone as that novel oddly enough, guess its a thing writers do here). Heh, they could stick this game in tourism centers for showing off how (over the top) Glaswegians sound. What else? The variety in levels is cool, though after a while they tend to wear on a tad. From Quake to Pacman, Space Invaders, Call of Duty, Space Invaders, and damn plenty of others, though I doubt many people made it past the Quake section so they probably think that was the whole game. A lot of those play the same as each other (i.e. running through at 100 mph - because you start as a Quake character and you have that character's early 90s attributes), but the older arcade style games are quite interesting in how they're emulated.
Were it not for the dialogue I'd say that its nothing special. With it I feel like I can deal with the crappy gameplay at points. However saying that were there an audiobook of the original novel then I'd probably be satisfied with that (I do feel like the game's probably missing a ton from the book, though by and large it must be covering a lot, even if only roughly). So aye, an interesting game if you're into meta crap (the player wakes up one day trapped inside of a game *anyone who's seen a certain Christmas episode of the Twilight Zone will know where this goes...*) or just want to hear a Scottish woman swear a lot for a couple of hours.
Edit: I've discovered the particular issue with framerate dropping in that game's last level. I looked up... The devs, and I don't overstate this, have literally pasted in as many assets they could find into this sprawling multi tiered platform puzzle level. Picture hundreds of platforms laden with random assets (*spoiler* as by that point the game worlds are merging *) and NPCs. Each tier of platforms are on the size of one of the smaller levels. There's many, many tiers... Its like the devs had to hit so many plot points from the book so they felt the need to spread the level out more. Splitting it apart with loading screens would break the flow I suppose, but what we're left with is a place so heavy with assets that I'm playing the thing like a slideshow. ...At least its running so poorly that the AI isn't even kicking in. Nah I can run through the thing as they stand their dumbly in T-shapes. =P

On Borderlands. I played it some more there. With a few more hours my thoughts on that games solidified a bit more. I'd still say that its not as good as Borderlands 2. Rather it feels like an expandalone. Not a bad one at that though.
Issues that I have with it? It may just be me, but this new dev team design some really unintuitive levels. They're just difficult to move around in and I find that I have to pause at times and backtrack to find the right way to go. Which brings me to my next point, at times the game flat out just doesn't tell you what it wants you to do. "Go to this place". Ah, Ok, there's a door in the way, now what? Borderlands 2 would have said "press this tiny button that you obviously can't see unless we highlight it" or "kill 30 enemies in the area". Nah this just acts like the door isn't there and tells you there's treasure on the other side or something. ...It does this all the time. There's a general lack polish at times too. Like bugs in the UI that weren't there in the other games (repeatedly the inventory bugs out so you can't scroll through your items), or an odd thing where vehicles default to their standard weaponry every time you spawn a new one.
Is it a good game? I wouldn't play it unless you'd played the other titles in the series (thus why its now bundled with 2). I can power through it because I like the games and want to know more about the world and all, but had this been a separate title then I wouldn't rate it. Fair enough that it was made by a different developer with less experience and a short time to create the game obviously. Its not a bad game, but I can't see it holding anyone's interest unless their a real fan as there's just so much stuff that doesn't match up to 2 in terms of quality.
Bonus points though for all the Australian accents. ...Even if they're really hammed up, but put that down to the setting. I must be half way through the game at least with 10 hours in (though I've hit a stumbling block where enemies suddenly started spawning 6 levels above me randomly), and its given me a hankering to play Tales from the Borderlands. Pity I didn't pick it up during the Steam sale, and that, ah, I've never completed any of Telltales' series (luckily then it'll be years before they release all the episodes).

Xzar is funny. So's the halfling. Also kind of evil, I usually picked them up and counted them as expendable. I mean the caster is pretty useless, but if you get him killed off and keep Montaron around (only way to have one and not the other, let xzar die) he's a pretty useful stabby sneak. But Edwin does evil mage better than Xzar (unless you really like a necromancy specialist mage over an evoker...) and Dynaheir comes with minsc if you're doing the goodguy party. Oh and Neera (I think her name is, new EE npc) the wild mage is pretty useful too... if you don't mind saving alot because sometimes cows *will* fall on people instantly killing them. And your money kind of disappears sometimes. Still better than Xzar
Xan's an option too, though he's pretty melancholy.
Imoen starts off kind of like a sort of bored kid(ish, not *that* young, but young at heart) and in the next couple of games she gets a fair bit more damaged/gloomy.

And, though it's been a while... it seemed to me that his reasons for doing the things he did were pretty.. i dunno.. petulant? I guess a lot of villains are that way though.
Also, back to Fallout New Vegas, just sold the large majority of my lightweight high value vendor items (NCR/legion/pre-war currencies, other similar items) and most of my 'backup guns' to pick up a MF Hyperbreeder Alpha for around 9000 credits. I'm currently skint, but this thing is a beast. Feels kind of like a wacky laser uzi and it just shreds things. And people. It really doesn't care, just point it at something and that something turns into a freaking pile of ash. And my laser skill is only 20. May be rectifying that. I was content with a regular recharger rifle but... this thing... is awesome.
Also awesome is the 40mm grenade launcher I found on a random viper raider guy. It needs some repair kits, but the gun runners alliance DLC means I can get a pretty steady supply of grenades for the thing and they're preeety nasty. Got a cache of plasma grenades for 'emergencies' which could also be read as 'whenever I get bored'.
Next time I play I'll have to start harvesting things to pawn to rebuild my caps, but the new guns are probably worth it.

If you have lonesome road, that's a good way to make loads of money, although you need to be a decently high level. Just go kill a bunch of marked men, and sell their armour, that'll net you a pretty penny (or bottlecap). And you can head back whenever you want in lonesome road, IIRC.

Well, my Starbound experience was iffy tonight. I began a colonization project on an ocean world, which is starting to shape up nicely, but my little armada of NPC's in my ship began to despawn, leaving only 3 behind. Two of which I wouldn't as much as others that despawned. At least they didn't take my Floran NPC. I hope they work on that among other things, but it is only in beta so I have to expect this sort of stuff, I guess.

Melee? What's melee? I rolled about that game with a knife, but just wound up shooting most enemies. I would say that yes unarmed is good, and it eventually becomes really, really bent once you find a ballistic fist. I had zero points in unarmed and that thing still did more damage than any other weapon I could find. They make killing Caesar horrendous given how confined that tent is, though I think that was the dev's intentions (not so much me playing with a damage increasing mod which makes being slashed by a knife a few times or being shot once deadly. I wound up just turning on god mode for that encounter eventually).

Hm. I find melee useful for crowded rooms like that, especially if some of your enemies are shooting at you. Line them up a bit and you get less incoming shots while you mulch them down with punches. So far no unarmed weapon has matched up with my spiked knuckles, not even the regular power fist /lame. I just don't like that I need 60-90 melee weapons skill points to get some of the perks that also effect unarmed (power slam for free knockdowns is the first one, but there I think the one that lets you pierce DT may also be, and the one with 30% more attack speed at lvl 24+ needs 90 melee weapons.. as does the ninja one but that at least makes a bit of sense..).

Hopefully the Storyteller will be updated for Fallout 4.
Man, the Nexus Mod Manager is really handy. Wish I'd got it up and running sooner.
Downloaded a few small mods:
ShoddyCast's Storyteller companion mod
2 bug fixes (anti crash and the misaligned rifle iron sights bug)
Integrated Wild Wasteland (activates the Wild Wasteland so I don't have to waste a trait on it)
Perks every level (50 perks at max level )
Weapon Mods Expanded (3 Mods for every weapon)
Karma Perks (temporary perks which depend on your karma, discounts, extra damage etc)
Daily Vendor Restock (reset vendor's inventory and cash every day rather than every 4 days)
Increased Legion Presence (More Legion outposts and patrols in the south east)
Bottle that Water (refill empty water bottles by accessing a water source, and a canteen allows automatic hydration - no micro management).

Still alternating between IWD:EE and fallout new vegas.
Finally set to head to vegas, though I'm still meandering a bit. Sold all my guns and bullets except for the Alpha, I've been pumping energy weapons ever since I found that thing. Gonna have to keep an eye out for repair kit materials just to keep it topped off. I also splurged on a Katana as I'm going to have to eventually pump melee weapons to unlock some of the more useful unarmed perks like super slam and so on. Lv 8 and 10 perks have been godsends, pack rat nearly halved my carry weight, guess I've mostly got light stuff, and with strong back... 260 weight and half-weight small items means I'll be able to loot indiscriminately for some time
As for icewind dale... still chugging through the lower level of dragon's eye. I could be slugging it through all of the undead but I've mostly been resting to recharge my highest level spells and blasting a group or two apart before resting again. Kind of gaming the mechanics but even at level 7-8 a couple of lucky hits from the enemy makes a lot more work for me in patching up after the fight than simply pulverizing them and resting. Plus resting tends to attract more xp err.. I mean more monsters (who are filled with delicious xp ). The avenger druid is probably my favorite hero at the moment, the spell selection for IWD druids is top notch and the avenger upgrades it further. Plus he can web enemies and wade into the webs with impunity as a fugging sword spider! The berserker and paladin are still rocks, if a little boring. Cleric/thief remains as useful as ever, finally starting to get decent sneak %chance and disarming pesky traps though the slower spell progression (and priest spells vs superior IWD druid spell list) is a bit tedious. Bard is coming into her own, still doesn't really do anything but sing her amazing Skald song with it's ridiculous benfits.. but occasionally she stops long enough to sneak a shot with her bow, or drop a mage spell. Finally up to fireball or haste, both of which are somewhat of game changers, though less so in such limited quantity. Monk hasn't really blossomed yet. If I ever come across a mage enemy with illusion based defenses (blur, mirror image, shadow whatevers, etc) she'll probably peel them all off in a single round of detection (70% detect illusions so far), but her fighting and defenses still need a few levels to really start to shine.
Both games are pretty fun, IWD for when I'm feeling calmer and wanna explore/plan multiple actions.. and New Vegas for when I wanna run around shooting/punching things to death.

Very close to beating impossible ironman in xcom enemy within. It took forever but this playthrough should be the magic game. I managed to hold all of europe and asia as well as mexico (go figure). I'm basically one nation away from a full loss but currently i now have a good amount of genetically modified troops, everybody has plasma weapons and everybody is in titan armor as well as every nation now being covered by a satellite. I also have plasma weapon aircraft over the remaining countries and a firestorm each for europe and asia (2 firestorms total). Mexico will just have to wait for theirs.
Anyway so far i've fought every type of ship except the battleship, the ethereal ship and the temple ship. I even fought a landed supply barge (one of the harder ones to fight esp. since battleships in comparison have a good layout to fight in). When i fought the landed supply barge i had to take on 2 sectopods, 3 mechtoids, multiple sectoid commanders and plenty of sectoids as well as a cyberdisc.
I think it's about the beginning of september or october in the game. I've also just received the chrysallid council mission in canada with the fishing village. I've finished off exalt at their HQ, beat the alien base and successfully defended xcom HQ so there's really nothing to do left but the temple ship assault.
Oh and as for xcom 2's developers saying impossible ironman is canon? Denied. All it means is nearly half the world was destroyed but that's a small price to pay for victory and the survival of the human race of course ;P.

Shogun 2 Total War. Playing pretty aggressively and expanding rapidly as the Takeda Clan (the Red guys with good cavalry - my favourite clan).
-I took North Shinano, then marched south and conquered the Hojo.
-I subjugated a couple of the minor Clans east of me and made them Vassals, then mopped up the Imagawa to my south west after the Oda brought them to their knees.
-I allied with the Oda to secure my southern borders (the Oda have a huge empire and appear to hold Kyoto).
-Then the Uesugi began attacking my vassals to my east, so I conquered them and now I hold a lot of territory east of Shinano (the lands formerly belonging to my vassals Yamanouchi and Ogigayatsu, and the Uesugi).
-But now the Date are attacking me, so I'm having to push all the way east to the end of Japan.
-I managed to bottleneck and massacre a huge Date army of mainly Samurai by having my Daimyo Takeda Shingen hold a bridge east of Shinano with huge masses of yari and bow ashigaru.
-Now the way is clear to advance east. But now the Honma are gobbling up Date territory. I've allied with the Honma for now to delay hostilities, but eventually I'll need to deal with them before I push West to take Kyoto from the Oda. Still, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the Honma's Gold Mine island.
-Just when I defeat one threat, another pops up that needs exterminating, like a never ending game of whackamole. My Noteworthiness or Imperium whatsit is getting very high now so very soon the clans to the West (Oda and Hatakeyama) will become hostile.

@SCE: You need to be careful with realm divide. There was a whole thread made on dakka about shogun 2's realm divide. It's that freaking bad. Basically all your enemies ally together against you so if you don't think you can handle that yet then be careful. Use diplomacy to kiss some major *** and make good on alliances. Either way every turn the allies and neutral parties you have get more and more hostile to you so be careful. I get the feeling even vassals turn on you at that point if possible.

Either way every turn the allies and neutral parties you have get more and more hostile to you so be careful. I get the feeling even vassals turn on you at that point if possible.
Yeah I don't like the realm divide because even your allies and vassals seem to turn on you no matter what you do. I think it should be handled that everyone picks a side rather than everyone turning against you.

Ok so apparently i just beat xcom: enemy within on impossible ironman which is quite the feat considering how few people beat impossible difficulty or classic/impossible on ironman mode. To do a successful ironman run is quite hard to say the least. Oh and tell those xcom 2 devs that impossible ironman being canon for xcom 2 isn't true (or at least not a small percentage of the time). Like all xcom campaigns once you have full titan armor, some firestorms, vets and full plasma weapons then you become seriously hard to stop esp. with multiple upgrades on everything. I became somewhat reckless even for the past few days (in real life) when playing that game.
So to sum up everything i beat impossible ironman, the xcom 2 devs are making up excuses and i now need something else to play.

I've been slowly plugging away at Mount and Blade. There's a Game of Thrones mod I plan to play after conquering Calradia. I should also start my annual Mass Effect playthrough at some point too.

Started into Dragon Age 3 there. Im struggling with it so far tbh, lots of dinky, uninteresting side quests so far, the characters are no where near as compelling or interesting as DA1 and the whole closing rifts things is fairly tedious. Does it get better?

Wait, Origins had characters? I think you'll find it had cardboard cutouts with stickers labelled personality on them.

All the sprites in DA:O were essentially defined by a personality trait, IMO.
I honestly prefer DA2 for characters, and DA:O for story+Gameplay.
Inquisition is a combination of both of those, aside from when it feths itself...

I've gone back to M2 total war, and forgot how incredibly annoying it is to play any of the central European factions in the global campaign. Playing as Denmark, I've been in a position to neutralise the HRE, England, and Scotland for many turns, but none of them has set a single toe out of line with the Pope yet, and are all on decent terms with him, so my axes are tied. Meanwhile, the HRE keeps threatening me with attacks if I don't pay them, and marching stacks through my land towards my settlements.
Can I do anything to stop them without declaring war? No. If I do declare war, can I pursue it? No. Can the HRE? Yes, because the Pope hugely favours AI factions. What's the end result? HRE and its friends throw armies at me until they get bored and offer a ceasefire, and I can't do gak back until I get catapults/trebuchets and can besiege, assault, and capture settlements in the same turn.
You still get crapped on reputation-wise just for resisting and fighting only when attacked, and reputation only really matters for players, so it's a real lose/lose situation until someone gets excommunicated.

World of Warships is now in Open Beta...
The things I have already seen ...
Warships stopping to shoot because they think it's more accurate that way.
Warships camping behind an island, moving forward, shooting, and then "reversing" back behind the island.
Battleships, the ones supposed to hit the damage to protect their team mates, running away as soon as someone hits them once.
And the chat...

Starting in on Pillars of Eternity, which I got during the Steam Summer Sale, while giving TW3 breaks for a bit (I often work from home, so needed a game I could play in 10-minute stretches).
PoE is like a Baldur's Gate upgrade, with the same real-time-but-turn-based combat mechanics, a mechanics systems modeled after d20, and a so-far grim fantasy world. Really enjoying the quests and the gameplay, though some fights are just... brutally unfair.

They're really not unfair.
Baldur's Gate and IWD literally have starter bosses that can wipe PARTIES with ease.
IWD in particular, wear you start with a max of D10 health on characters pits you against enemies with shortbows which do 1d8. And you, at best, have chainmail. And the system for damage is clunky af. It's sort of a reverse of modern DnD, in that the lower your armour class, the better your defense.
As much as I want to fall in love with PoE, it's not the spiritual successor that it needs to be. As someone who played, and still plays the old DnD games, Pillars is way too easy. I'm playing it on hard, Trial of Iron, and have blasted my way through it with no effort.

That's D&D 2nd edition (and probably first too). Baldut's Gate also uses the same rules. I remember as a kid being very confused with how the heavier lookign armor made the numbers go down instead of up.

Meh, I don't get that. New vegas' world brought me in, while in 3 I found the world dull and uninteresting. Now I will admit I have played mutch more of New Vegas than 3, so that colours my opinion somewhat, but that's what I found. Take the metro series for example, an extremely linear FPS which had a much more interesting world and story than FO:3. And I rather liked the NV characters, they were grey. There were no good or bad guys. They all had their good and their bad.

It's not just bears. I remember at one point, due to my party setup. ( PC was a low level inquisitor and Imoen was useless) I hit an unwinnable miniboss in Friendly Arm Inn. This was required to progress the story. Due to playing it as I felt the character would, and NOT hiring the random 2 evil dudes in the middle of nowhere, I got punished.
In IWD, the first mob can literally one shot any non-tank character.

I knew of that, and it was also badly implemented. Forcing attacks to use the D20 roll system keeps faithful, but it's clunky as anything.

That was no doubt the magic user who meets you as you're about to enter the inn, and targets your character with a Magic Missile spell which never misses, and does enough damage to kill whoever it's aimed at.
The solution, I found, was contained in Imoen's inventory. She comes with a Wand of Magic Missiles which (if you're careful) will allow you to do unto him before he does unto you.

There's something to be said about Bear Arms in there but I'm drawing a blank today.
But in all seriousness, you should approach any threat in the baldur's gate games like its an extinction-level event. Until you know what you're up against by sight. And even then, look twice! Sneak one kobold commando into a batch of regulars and those flaming arrows will wreak havoc left unchecked...
I'm fairly confident in saying that some of the, totally random, encounters in those games are virtually unwinnable without proper preparation beforehand and potentially off-screen spell shenanigans. Let alone possible if you just blunder into them.
The wizard outside the friendly arm is bad, he'll blow you up with magic missiles. I realize that if you're attempting to RP the encounter as if you have no knowledge that he's about to rain down death upon you... that may be an issue. If Imoen has any chance to sneak at all (remember to stand in shadows to avoid the penalty!) just keep trying it till she succeeds and keep trying to get a sneak attack until she actually gets one successfully. Your MC being a tanky class should be a benefit. It's an icky fight with just two, gotta get a lucky hit or two in while he's casting.
And if you don't like him... well let's just say that isn't the only potent merc/bounty hunter you'll have to deal with.

Yeah, its really good.
Wait till you get to the end; it will blow you away.
Combat in the early Fallout games were pretty difficult.
Black Isle rpgs tend to focus more on dialogue than shooting.
Partly because you can't go full rambo like in the newer games.

I play TR on the Miller server, but I also have one character for each of the other two factions.
My favourite class is the light assault. Favourite tactic is sitting in a tree or on a ledge with a suppressed carbine and picking people off, just generally trying to be a nuisance. Haven't yet saved up the certs to go Sundy hunting with C4.
Also like to camp on hillsides or cliffs with my Prowler with zoom optics and anchored mode, trying to pick enemy tanks and sunderers off from a km away (sort of like artillery). Vanguards scare me gakless, I never seem to win a 1 on 1 close range fight. Are Prowlers generally weaker?
Oh, and I have to open the side of my pc tower up to let it stay cool when I play.

I played with an ACOG or equivalent scoped slug-shooting shotgun on several characters. Still kills dudes pretty fast up close and once you master the heavy bullet drop it becomes kind of a battle rifle with reasonably impressive hits to kill at even long ranges.
Whooooooo Thunk! Gah, wtf? Whooooooo THunk! Gah almost dead wtf? Whoooo Thunk.
But really, the most fun was playing with the fly-by-wire AA turret they gave to engineers. If you could get a precise strike you could oneshot infantry with it, or snipe tanks potentially from outside of their draw distance
I liked LA a lot but I think I did better with medic, they just get better guns.
78869
Post by: Shadow Captain Edithae
I like the speed and maneuverability of the Light Assault. I like to duck and weave, fly up over a wall, pick someone off. Jump off to avoid retaliation, fly sideways below the ledge and pop up behind them, pick off a couple more. If someone surpises me from behind, I can drop off a ledge, fly around it and get behind them. If I come face to face with someone, I launch myself over their heads spin round and shoot into their backs. The engineer is very fun too - that AT turret is insane. Plonk it down on a mountain and chip away at the enemy armour from km's away. it isn't very good to start with, but when you upgrade it to have a faster cool down it can do quite a lot of damage. I like to keep a Skyguard with me, so I can suppress enemy aircraft too.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
LA is great fun and the tactical flexibility is wonderful, it's just that there were many times that I would have just been better off with the overshield and stronger gun of the heavy, or more supportive by being a medic.
Ahh, skyguard, I think I may have either stopped before implementation or just never had the certs to acquire.
I usually spent my vehicle credits on mosquitoes and flashes, and more often than not ended up planting C4 on them to use them as guided missiles
Although... the infiltrator wraith flash, or really just running people over with the flash in general is soooo fun.

Post by: Anvildude
Flight would be much, much easier if they'd just allow you to assign the Yaw (side to side) controls to the mouse, putting the roll on the A and D keys instead.
Also, gotta make sure you rebind your 'eject' key when flying to something other than the 'E' button. That's an important one.

I've been playing Fallout New Vegas again, never finished it, b/c the game freezes too often, Camp McCarron gets frame dip into the single digits. I really hate Fallout 3 and love Fallout New Vegas. I'm glad I played New Vegas before 3, b/c I never would have bought NV if I'd played 3 first. The best thing about 3 was the Hellfire armor. The this-gun-is-clearly-better-than-that-gun in 3 was lazy, the world was terrible;where did the kids in the kid city get their new kids from? It was thrown together bad storytelling to me(lol vampires).
I love ED-E, the best companion ever.
Been playing Kingdoms of Amalur, the story, world and dialogues are the only things keeping me playing. Suffers all the bad RPG weaknesses, slow start/easy to over level. The enemies are interesting at least; the devs did try.
For what the games offered, both flawed, I prefer Dragon's Dogma over Skyrim. Skyrim isn't fun, did not offer anything more than sightseeing, 'bad guns' magic and no enemies worth fighting.
In truth, I'm about ready to cut the gaming cord, probably after Fallout 4. I can see me getting the new Nintendo Console tho'

Mostly being bored all day every day and using video games as my only sole entertainment. I'm also still in some shock with warhammer fantasy becoming 'Age of Sigmar'. Should also probably go back to school to help meet some fine ladies ;P. Education would help as well and getting more friends at the school as well as a possible better job in the future. My income from my job and the govt isn't enough and rent only increases. Basically i've been priced out of warhammer anyway.

More on topic to the thread i have been playing 'Endless Legend'. This game is very beautiful both in aesthetics and in music. The story is interesting and the factions are fun. Honestly i wish somebody would at least make a story for the 'endless' series even if it was web comic based.
I've also been curious about getting into the 'shadowrun returns' games again.
I also don't know if there are any video games on it but man would i ever love to get more into Judge Dredd. It seems like a very fun comic to get into and any games related to it sound great. I kind of wish i could play the tabletop for that game but i dunno where i'd find people to play it with.

How is that compared to Civ 5? I started with five, and have been thinking of looking at the older ones if they are cheap enough (although I'm a but more preoccupied with endless legend at the moment).

Back on the Skyrim playthrough again. (The amount of times I've played the same character is getting rediculous. Usually down to my own fault for not backing up saves and installing new mods.)
However really having fun with it now. Doing a lightish roleplay were I only visit cities that I have reason to, IE I get a rumour etc
Managed to join the Thieves Guild, pickpocketing people is rather annoying I must say. As I have the thieves guild requirements mod. Will open up a fair amount of the map with the misc jobs.
One mod I dop want to point out is Falskaar, I honestly thought the inital quest to start this mod was a vanilla quest I had missed, it just so well put together. It just just feel like a smaller Skyrim to be fair but I've only explored a little of it. So looking to have more fun exploring a new land.
Still have the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC to play. I bought them when they were released but still haven't played them at all.

Basically between Tali and Liara- not just because there's that air of the exotic around them, but they just have such better personalities. Miranda's too "I'm better than you, you should be glad I deign to even talk to you". If not in how she talks, then at least in how she acts/interacts with things.

It's funny, I always saw Tali as a 'little sister' rather than anything else.
I mean, I like the character, sure. It's just well, the whole relationship thing? Kinda feels like incest...
I was always more a Liara person.

Stalker Soup, a mod for the original Shadow of Chernobyl game. It takes the base game then adds the cut areas, the ones from the other games plus a load more. Problem: the mod for the most part follows the base game's plot, so doesn't send you off to the other areas at all. To get to these areas you need to do side quests, which at times are a bit complex.
That and I think it ups the enemy count in story areas a bit. The sheer number of enemies doesn't really fit with how I play the game, with it being a slow methodological thing. Yeah try that when you die in one hit and there's fifty NPCs shooting at you (there's a bit at the end when you need to make it across open ground surrounded by snipers ...and three RPG soldiers). It also doesn't help that you make no money from selling loot (ten AKs, a couple of artifacts and some junk nets you 1500 rubles). ...And ammo costs a silly amount (13 AK bullets are 1500 rubles). ...And enemies only carry a few rounds when you loot them.
...Cue god mod and sprinting through the areas.
Also remember Xen from Half Life? Remember the convoluted levels and teleporters? The whole Chernobyl NPP level becomes this for some dumb reason. So do a few other levels too. I don't really get what's with Stalker mods and their need to make labyrinth like levels, which the base game is bad for, but not so much. Like I said too mods decide that a game about survival where supplies are at a premium should spawn tons of enemies as well. The same with Fallout mods too I suppose. I prefer games where enemies are at a premium though. Sure they'll still kill you quickly, but there isn't like forty of them. ...And that if that NPC can shoot you endlessly for ten minutes, if I happen to kill him immediately then when I loot him I'd like to see a million rounds rather than one or two.
So another "good" Stalker mod ticked off. Hmn, I don't think I have many of these left. I think I really should just play Call of Pripyat with more weapons and artifacts added (though not the Misery mod!) and no other changes, because these modders have no clue about balancing and maintaining the game's atmosphere (Misery was terrible for that, it tries to keep the survival feel, then dumps 100 enemies at story locations where before there was like 10...).

I enjoyed Titanfall, but it got old real fast for me. Just not enough variety, and once you've hit the top level and unlocked all the options....oh, I can reset back to level 1 and do it all again for bragging rights? No, thank you.
Anyway, finally got around to buying GTA5 and just started playing it yesterday. Seems fun so far. It's kinda sad where the graphics can be really good overall, and then you come to certain spots where the artists just phoned it in from the early 2000s (the car wash animation, ugh).

I can't say I remember any parts where GTA V graphics are bad, but then again I tend not to go to the car wash or anything of the like. If I did have to pick one, it'd be the animals, like make some of them (cougar and shark come to mind) a little better, but I'm probably accidentally missing those parts. I wouldn't doubt that honestly.
Anyways, GTA V was a good game, online has some cool features as well to keep you playing.
I also got into Killing Floor now, and am pretty impressed with it. Patriarch can be a pushover, just duel hand cannons point blank.

Hooboy... lots of mat farming? I left that behind me in my MMO days, I do not want it in other RPGs. I guess I'll stick to my bgs iwds and posibly nwns... Speaking of that... I guess there's to be a new 'lost chapter' style Baldur's Gate? Dragonspear something something? That could be pretty fun, even got Minsc right in the trailer. Would make sense if they stuck it between TotSC and SoA, since there was a vaguely 'they kept adventuring and were eventually captured by dudes in the night' thing going on.

I hope it's a bit smoother than play 1, export to play new game, export to play bg2+... Although that's all you really did for BG1-2 just import from your save. I think they made a mod to put them together a little better but I dunno that BG1-2EE did any of that.
It *is* the same guys that just did the EE's, so surely they've had this in the works and it will hopefully be somewhat streamlined... Looking forward to seeing more from some of my old favorites, and having yet more oldschool D&D adventures

I got a mod kind of like those but for skyrim awhile back.. something about real/more/interesting encounters. Running into extra stuff makes those long treks through the wilderness/wasteland a bit more interesting. Sometimes obnoxious/tedious, but not always.
Been running around in normal unmodded new vegas just playing the boring "I'm a helper!" type of person finishing most of the quests I find. I guess I can go explore the DLCs soon, high enough level that I should be able to cover them all. I don't think I have a lot of odd jobs left for House anyway.
Oooh, thanks for sharing, that's fantastic and almost exactly what I'm going for (except maybe a bit more natural caves with only *some* rough-hewn areas). 2.5d has its place for sure, I won't knock anybody that uses it... but I know I'm gonna have more fun building 3d stuff like that dwarf mine and it won't likely get used as much as I'd like. I won't make the walls extremely tall, however, but taller than the 2.5 stuff.

Do you use the New Vega Script Extender (NVSE) with the 4GB RAM expansion? It's a common error you get as FNV uses a way outdated engine that cannot, naturally, handle much more than what the game comes with.

Did you know about the DakkaDakka server? Just tried to do a run of DST, which did not have a happy ending. I got too friendly with the bishops and clockwork knight, trying to get the knight to smash the marble. He did that, only to follow me home and smash the fire. While running away with the last traces of health and daylight, I panicked and ate some mushrooms hoping they would heal me. Sadly, they didn't and I ended up going insane and tried to fight off ghosts with an axe. I never saw the fourth day.

Playing Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Still kind of my favorite of the series; I'm a sucker for campaign maps, even ones that aren't that well implemented.
Oddly enough, I had something happen that I'd never seen before. The AI attacked my capital! Sadly, there is no awesome special defense mission for that. There should have been. There really should have been.

Most of you may be too young to remember the Descent games, but I remember my first experience with it was when the second one had just come out (I think I was like 7 or 8 years old) and I thought it was the most amazing game ever! I'm still a huge fan of the games, even if the graphics are massively dated by today's standards.

Normal, but I just realized that I've got one of the AI mods active. Dawn of Skirmish, I think? Maybe that's what allowed them to attack my capitol. Either way, I'm glad that it happened. Even without a special scenario, it got pretty intense. I was playing as the Necrons, got attacked by the Orks. The map was the Necron capitol map, I think, just with all the special stuff taken out.
I also saw the Space Marines attack and capture the Eldar stronghold, taking them out of the game before I even got a chance to fight them. Has that happened to anyone before?

Yeah, it can happen I was disappointed to find that out on my very first playthrough of the campaign (playing orks, as they matched my playstyle completely) that the space marines had been wiped out by the Imperial Guard.

How does it play out when you attack the stronghold, then?

Post by: 2BlackJack1
It did the little cutscene of the narrator talk about what will happen, then does a regular game in that map.
Also, a nice tip is if it's possible keep an eye on people's HQ's, and if anyone is close to taking out another AI is to rush the enemy who is endangering someone else. I've had to do it on a couple occasions tI save someone so I can kill them later.

Post by: toasteroven
Yeah, I should have done that. I was so focused on taking chaos out that I didn't pay enough attention to the rest of the map.
Honestly though, this is the most dynamic campaign I've ever played in DC. It's been great fun.

With all the recent remakes and rebooted games, I WISH they'd redo the Descent games. I grew up on the first one. IMO, one of the toughest games I've ever played.
I don't know if they can. I suspect that the rights are in the same limbo that Freespace's rights are in - i.e. tied up between both Interplay and Volition. And since Volition was acquired by someone else quite a while back...
So, unfortunately, I don't think we're going to see a rerelease.

I think it's all right, but I'm not the best judge of these things. The AI does seem to use a greater variety of units, they're more aggresive, and I think better at using combined arms.

Just Cause 2. Yeah, no...
I tried playing it when it first came out and thought that, of what little I played, was crap. I managed to make it further this time. Its still crap.
The first one wasn't a good game either, but that was the PS2 and well there wasn't much else at the time. This one feels unresponsive, I'm not really into the cartoony spy style its going for (I can see what its trying to do, but the dialogue's poor, that and I hate bullet spongy enemies) and generally I just don't like what gameplay I've seen (would it kill to be able to aim your gun properly).
Meh, another one of those games on my Steam list which I picked up for pennies. Now to try and find something else which I haven't played before on there (I installed Empire: Total War earlier and that refused to work... Third time's the charm?).

Huh, I loved it personally. It's not the most refined game, but it is fun.

Just got Blood Bowl: Dark Elves edition. I have no idea what I'm doing. One of the first games I've had to use the tutorials on.

You should've probably waited a couple months, Blood Bowl 2 is right around the corner. Blood bowl 1 had a notoriously horrible UI and horrendous tutorial. You won't be learning it fast from that unless you read the tabletop rules.
Or you just look up Cknoor's videos on youtube.

I really wanted to get into the blood bowl game on PC but I just couldn't. Went through the tutorial several times and never really got the hang of the game.
I wanted to get bloodbowl 2 but I don't like the idea of teams being held to ransom via pre order.

So I am playing stalker (the third one) and I am noticing something. The AI is kind of dumb and that is boggling me because wasn't the AI meant to be really smart? Most enemies just seem to run at me to attack then run away not really stellar. Maybe I am missing something.

Well, I got it from a friend's library on Steam, so I didn't put money into it, and I couldn't agree more with the tutorial. The only thing I've learned so far is try to make an honor guard around whoever has the ball, and the big guys aren't as cool as I expected. Any ideas of which race in general can dish out a beating? Automatically Appended Next Post: After a lot of trial and error I've found out I like the skagen because once I get the ball I can just fly down the field. After every game ending with me getting no points with the other attempts I came out 3-0. This made me pretty happy.

Playing Crusader Kings 2, got the devil spawn chain of events. I hate this chain. Yeah, sure, give me a child who murders their siblings while making a bunch of references to bad horror movies. What fun.
And they're my heir, too. Bah.

If you can get that running; it's possibly my favourite of the series.
It was actually playing that that got me to start an AWI army and got me interested in 18th century history!

(Mostly) solved my TF2 stuttering problems. They do keep popping up, but they don't occur as often and don't freeze the game for as long.
Also saw the Total War: Warhammer trailer. I'm still trying to get it in my head that this is not a hoax.

I don't think I've ever played a Total War game, but if it lets me charge blocks of skavens or knights at things and throw fireballs at units like that old shadow of the horned rat (or whatever it was) game, color me intrigued.

Shadow of the Horned Rat is currently on GoG.Com for £3.99 if you're that interested.

Well, Blood Bowl ended up crashing and I lost my skaven team,l despite saving it, so I got into a lizard team that's doing good enough. Don't get me wrong I still suck, but not as bad.
I also got some mods for Skyrim including Fallskar, and that's a nice outlet for my Blood Bowl

More Titanfall.
The IMC is much more fun to play as. Spyglass and Blisk are just better to listen to.

Yeah I was upset about that too first. Until I read some interviews with the guys. Essentially those teams were never planned for release, but because the game got delayed some of the dev team had time to work on them. However, making a single team in blood bowl costs A LOT of money so they can't just throw in free teams that were always going to be released as DLC anyway.
