Here's something that'll really be cool- read the books of lore as you go through the games. Each Elder Scrolls game is canonical history to the games that come after, so, for example, in Morrowind, you'll find books describing the adventures of your character in Arena and the events of Daggerfall- and Skyrim has references to the Nerevarine and the Oblivion crisis.
Really? I always thought the background material only went as far back as Morrowind. Thanks for the tip.
Yeah. Check out the Numidium books (not entirely sure what they're called), and anything about Jagar Tharn is the Arena stuff. He's the Big Bad in the first game.

And don't forget Battlespire and Redguard. I think there's at least one book for each of those, as well.
More mordheim. Fulfilled the wyrdstone request. Got some spells and such. I think I got the one that decreases all enemy action points within 5 meters by 2. It sounded super awesome in the super cluster****s of fighting that battles can become while simultaneously not hurting me.
Minecraft again after losing my head playing fallout 4 again. How do you get access to the level 4 perks and so forth on PC? Every time I try the perks chart doesn't do squat
Playing WoW again for s bit. I dunno if I missed it but I think I saw a post or blizzcon something or another and my interest was piqued enough to throw $15 at my subscription. Just catching some characters up to 90 while I wait for the current expansion to have a fit if the black Fridays and be cheap. Legion looks cool too.
Got a tartarus to replace my nostromo, its not bad. A better successor IMO than the n52TE that Razer produced to follow the original belkin model.
Now that I have that... May have to get magicka2 and look into my back log again.
@LethalShade: Well it's making the idea of a zombie apocalypse that much more unlikely. If one guy could take down that many zombies with an assault rifle then there's no way they could ever handle the military. Even if 80% of the population turned to zombies and they might be fast zombies (with the strength of people) I just don't see it working. They don't seem smart enough. They could never ever take out anything from the air and safe zones would be handled. Not to mention some zombie movies start idiotically and never explain how it got so out of control.
Sorry the whole zombie thing just seems dumb to me.

Anyway I think I'm going back to mordheim.
The issue with most Zombie movies is that they take place in universes where nobodies ever heard of a Zombie plague. So you get, say, a dozen or so people who get infected on a field-trip to the abandoned bio-warfare factory, they all go home. Next morning they wake up dead and hungry for flesh- but since they weren't 'killed' before dying, their families don't get what's wrong. Cue the biting, the running/locking new zombie in closet, going to ER to treat bite wound. Patients in ER die from seemingly non-fatal bite wounds, start biting ER docs, get restrained. ER docs feeling under the weather, turn, eventually entire hospital is zombified because 1: Zombies aren't 'dead' since they're up and moving, therefore they're Patients instead of Targets, and 2: basic bite-wounds like a Zombie makes aren't usually fatal, and 3: in relation to 1, a plague that kills that fast yet can still spread is unknown/inconceivable, so people aren't thinking 'infection, quarantine', they're thinking 'my buddy Frank's looking a little pale, oh, hey, he's leaning in to say something to meohmyGOD WHY IS HE BITING ME?!'
And so Hospitals and Police and Fire departments are the first to be infected in that first day- the people with quick access to the CDC and emergency broadcasting capability, and also the people that everyone else trusts (and who, in non USA countries are the best armed and equipped for taking down hostile mobs).
Of course, in the real-world, the Military has officers-in-training writing up emergency planning measures for everything from Alien Invasion to Zombie Apocalypse, which plans are then stored away (after being looked over for any possible flaws by highly-trained folks) for eventual deployment if such a situation might occur.
Granted, even in "What's a Zomb-Argh!" movies, the plague shouldn't ever travel much further than a single big city or two, much less cross continents.

I fired around 150 shotgun shells into them, and found myself overwhelmed several times. I managed to kite them enough to get out of here unharmed, but my base is ruined by all the corpses.
Fortunately I played a Veteran with the "Insensible" trait (prevents panic most of the time).
+ For the Zombie Plague effectiveness, look at Left 4 Dead, where the virus is airborne and the only survivors are the lucky ones who are naturally immune.
++ In Project Zomboid, IIRC, Knox County citizens are the only ones to be infected, and the whole zone is quarantined by the military.

At that point it's more of a decoration to how awesome you are. Jeez it's like a carpet of corpses and blood. Reminds me of the original 'dawn of war' games when you put the setting to persistent corpses. That was always fun to watch.
There's an XKCD cartoon that deals with the absurdity of most accidental zombie infections. Dealing with the initial outbreak of zombies in XKCD's zombie movie script takes about as long as the amount of time needed for one of the characters to run out to his car and bring back a shotgun.
The remaining runtime for the movie is a rom-com.
An intentional outbreak is the more serious threat, as a smart bio-engineer will set something up to maximize the number of infected individuals. For instance, the Black Tide Rising series uses devices disguised as air deodorizers placed in airport bathrooms around the world to provide the initial infection vector. And those infected initially just have a "regular" flu for the first few days after infection.
(the victims aren't "real" zombies, as they're not actually undead; but they're close enough in virtually all other respects)
I don't think a lot of people remember about Voodoo zombie slaves.
The voodoo zombie slaves aren't really 'zombies' in the sense that movies and games have portrayed them- for one, they're not infectious, and for two, they don't hunger for flesh.
Actually, the first 'Zombie' movie was "White Zombie"- and was a romance drama that involved voodoo zombies.
One of the stranger, and somewhat more fun, versions of the Zombie Plague is Return of the Living Dead- the second-branch sequel to Night of the Living Dead, where the Zombie thing is more of a chemical curse that just brings Everything dead back to life- cut-in-half dog cadavers used for training vets, insects pinned under glass, and of course long-dead bodies buried six feet under- and you couldn't kill them at all. But, since it was a chemical issue, it was more easily contained physically.
I don't think a lot of people remember about Voodoo zombie slaves.

Yeah, I know about that. I was saying that people don't quite remember about this kind of "zombies".
(Reminds me of the song "Bad Voodoo" by Kreeps)
Anyway, going back to PZ. I started all over again and made a new, safer and prettier base.
First 3-ish hours into Elder Scrolls 1 and I've found 3 things:
1) EVERYBODY in the game is racist, even against their own race. 2) The towns are huge. Makes Whiterun look like a cottage. 3) You can write on your map. This will come in handy, especially since I'll need to look for safe rooms at some point in each dungeon. 4) It doesn't take place in one province, it takes place in ALL of Tamriel.
I was honestly not expecting this much depth in the gameplay either. I like how when you interact with someone in the town, it feels more like each conversation is slightly different from the last. Only thing I've found annoying was the fact you can't just walk to the other towns, you have to fast travel. Still, pretty cool game so far.

It is pretty crazy. There's a reason that what was supposed to be a simple "Arena" combat game became one of the biggest-selling fantasy series in the West.
Also, I love the combat system- the way that you move your mouse determines the type of attack that you make with your weapon, and it looks pretty fantastic. Arena would (I think) weirdly enough be a game that you could convert to VR pretty easily.
More mordheim. I completed Act 1. Was rather funny watching the chaos ogre get stuck in between the doorway and just stay there. After some attempts at melee that hurt me a bit I just settled with killing most everybody else nearby and then shooting it to death which took forever. I feel sorry for the sisters of sigmar if they have to fight it because they have absolutely no ranged firepower whatsoever. I mean their melee is potent but that thing just wouldn't go down.
Anyway the shipment of wyrdstone got sent out and I managed to get all my guys healed, leveled and bought some skills for them. My warband's points level is at around 2200 pts currently. Oddly enough there have been little to no warband size increases and for some reason I seem unable to unlock impressive creatures despite my level and the fact they're appearing in hired swords. I really wish I could buy a rat ogre just for sheer power.
So Act 2-1 showed up and apparently the mission is about a wizard (probably an empire one) that needs killing. Guess we'll see how that goes when the time comes.
Currently my skaven are dominating, a few low level deaths mostly and some low level grunts that aren't as good anymore. Heroes and leader's ability to have skill mastery (a 2nd tier more skilled version of a skill) really seems to separate the men from the boys or rats from the mice as it is with skaven . In a couple cases my black skaven has taken out a regular henchman in a couple attacks or very nearly.
Was playing Halo 5 until Call of Duty came out. Then I bought Banner Saga for my iPhone, which is awsome. Also got the new & free GW Imperial Knight game, it is nice!
Currently playing Bloodborne's "The Old Hunters" DLC. Holy feth is his crazy. I play Souls games with my friend, who has beaten them all before I even got my hands on them. So walking into the new zones with him last night was kind of cool. We were unaware of everything, looking for items, places to go, etc... Just awesome fun. And then reality of it being a Souls game came crashing back as I spent 2 hours this morning beating my head against the first boss of the DLC.
Ooh, orignal metro 2033. A very good game, very compelling. If you enjoy it I highly recommend you pick up the Metro 2033/Metro: Last Light Redux bundle, it's generally pretty cheap, goes on sale pretty often, and has much improved game-play and graphics for both games.
Decided to give Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City a try. Holy gak, it uses Games for Windows Live for both multiplayer and ingame content saving. First time ever I've asked for a refund over at Steam.
Taking advantage of this unexpected (but surely welcome) steam sale, I just got Saint's Row 4. Hopefully that will sate my appetite for destruction.
Also, looking into Fallout 3 since it costs around as much as a coffee right now, but I saw on the store page it doesn't run well on Windows 7 or later. This will be a silly question, but has anyone had any trouble running it on Windows 8?
Yes, very much so, and in win 10 as well. It won't even start. However, if you can pick up both it and NV you can get the TTW (tale of two wastelands) mod which ports 3 over to NV allowing for the mechanical upgrades NV got, and it runs even on 10. Do that instead.

Oh! Didn't think there would be a solution for this. I'll give it a shot then. Thanks!
There are mods that make it work on 7, but I had problems with them. And when you can be able to muck about with both the 3 and new vegas stuff, as well as being able to use mods from both, there's no contest.
SkavenLord wrote: This will be a silly question, but has anyone had any trouble running it on Windows 8?
There is apparently some kind of issue with GFWL which prevents it from running. I spent about an hour trying to get it to run on 8 with no luck. It doesn't work with 10 either.
Currently playing Prison Architect. Basically finally finished my first large prison. Capacity of 588 I think. It's worth over 2 mil. So probably going to sell it and start a new one. Want to do a more planned layout. Want to do double walled perimeter and come up with a layout that segregates prisoners from staff. I want all my logistics centralized and prisoners around the perimeter.

Ran with with Windows 10, but lots of crashes. Boots very quickly, though, so it was okay. Still an amazing game. Cannot wait for FO4 to be fully modded. It will be glorious.
First time buying a bunch of stuff on a steam sale. Usually I somehow miss the sale.
I grabbed Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate edition. Its my first Fallout game so Im looking forward to it.
Castlecrashers + Battleblock theatre. Been eyeing it up castlecrashers for ages and I used to love play alien hominid on the ps2. Grabbed the dual game pack cos it was still cheap and Ill probably enjoy both.
Then a heap of roguelike/roguelites some including FTL, pixel piracy, one more dungeon, and rogue legacy. Should keep me busy as I try them all.
Now to try downloading them all while someone else in the house's xbone drains the net doing its own downloads.
If you don't already, I'd suggest getting a console controller for Rogue Legacy- you can play it with keyboard and mouse, but the control setup is more intuitive and better suited for controller.
Anvildude wrote: If you don't already, I'd suggest getting a console controller for Rogue Legacy- you can play it with keyboard and mouse, but the control setup is more intuitive and better suited for controller.
Yeah I switched to controller almost straight away. I was struggling to activate the standing platforms with the keyboard.
Played abit of castlecrashers, rogue legacy and fallout NV so far. Liking them all.
Got no idea what Im doing in fallout NV tho. I ended up stealing a big machete and massacring the town after half an hour of walking around confused. I'll figure it out eventually.

Don't particularly enjoy getting killed by teammates "for the lulz xD" and then having to sit out the rest of the match, not do I enjoy camping or having to face campers, so I won't be buying it.
Messed around in the Inadvisable Prototype. It's good, but at this point they are still 400k off their 1.5m kick-starter goal, so it may never get made. Lab zero, same people who did skullgirls, so that cool hand-drawn style.
Been playing mordheim. It's fun but it could probably use some more maps. I will also say some factions are easier to fight than others or at least with my skaven build. Sisters of sigmar and cult of the possessed seem hardest while empire is the weakest in almost every case (maybe the computer is just terrible with them). Skaven are about mid tier if I had to say. That said I had one really hard mission against empire but that was mostly because I attacked them little by little against probably all their forces. Not a good move.
Mercs are actually quite decent. The AI just doesn't use them very well.
Mercs make very good parry tanks later on in the campaign (even if some things like Rat Ogres and Possessed ignore parry) and they are also the only sort of viable ranged warband.

I disagree easily. I dunno how potent mercs ranged firepower are (I'm guessing the hunting rifle and blunderbuss are amazing but if you get dual warplock pistols on a nightrunner hero, give him the aim boost and mastery and warp poison and mastery and he is a fearsome opponent. Not as much anymore but he can fairly easily take off 80% of an enemy hero's health in one round of shooting or easily neuter an opponent's force with warp poison mastery (-4 action points if hit and effected but it doesn't stack so spread shots between opponents). I have to say it's just as potent as a effecting 3 enemies in range of 'curse of the horned rat' with mastery except better since it's -4 ap per guy instead of 3 and you can do it at range. Together however both abilities stack so if a bunch of enemies do a full surround on your skaven just warp poison mastery shoot a few of em and curse of the horned rat mastery on em and bam you get a grand total of -7 action points. If your opponent isn't crying at this point I don't know what'll make it happen. This is of course best case scenario but warp poison mastery shooting just the heroes while the curse of the horned rat mastery on all of em should suffice (that said a few warp poison shuriken armed verminkin should get the job done on low level guys in a combo with the horned rat ability).

You can do the same with a Youngblood and dueling pistols (without the warp poison obviously). A ranged warband is far from a viable choice but if you really want to do it Mercs are the only real choice given that they are the only ones with decent weapon options for henchmen.
Started playing Saints Row 4. I have been doing pretty much nothing except leaping up skyscrapers, outrunning and smashing into traffic with super speed, and randomly blowing stuff up in an alien tank. My itch for stupid chaos has been scratched. I hope Just Cause 2 will be just as nuts.
BrookM wrote: Saints Row takes it up to 11 and keeps it there. The end game section is worth it alone for the awesome music and dialogue.
I really need to finish it one of these days. I was playing through it, started the Dominator DLC midway through, and then kind of forgot about it.
In the Steam sale, I've picked up Just Cause 2 and Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition. I already had the regular version of the latter, but DE looks so much prettier!
Add to that This War of Mine, Elite: Dangerous (which I can't run, but plan to be able to before long), and Mirror's Edge (which I already beat a long time ago on the 360).

I suppose it's true that the best henchmen can get are shurikens but warp poison definitely helps and works with them. It's less about massive damage and much more about debuffing the enemy. I have 3 verminkin with shuriken heavy ballistic skill loadouts and early on they were awesome. Even now they can cut the enemies attacks down by a lot.
Been playing some more Fallout 4. - Haven't had a crash since I 'verified the integrity of the game cache' - I think I'm going to need to do that somewhat regularly.
So yeah, well, I played pretty much the longest mission in the game so far. And it wasn't even a real mission. I just wandered into a random place in Boston, just in my combat armour, nothing fancy, no reason to expect a big fight, so I was just equipped with my 'standard' loadout.
A couple of each of the normal chems
20 purified waters (these had ran out, unfortunately)
3 radaways, 3 radx's (these had also mostly ran out)
3 each of frag mines, frag grenades, molotovs
My stimpaks (Emergency use only)
Army Fatigues and Combat Armour overlays
It started off easy enough. Some raider types, bit of exploration and scavenging. The weird thing was....
Spoiler:
a couple of the mirelurk hatchlings were around. No biggy though, defeated them, kept exploring.
Hmm, I seem to keep on going down. Oh, ok. Mirelurk nest. Not ideal but it's just a random building, nothing to worry about.
Shotgun, shotgun, shotgun. Darn, I hate mirelurks. I'm probably going to have to fight a Mirelurk Hunter at the end of all this. Hopefully not a Legendary one, fought him once and he was TOUGH.
Darnit, there he is, Mirelurk Hunter. Ok, got'im. - I guess they're not so tough after all when they aren't mutating every 5 seconds. Oh well, time to go.
WTF, the doors locked. Oh, ok, puzzle time.
Hmm, that puzzle wasn't much of a puzzle. Ok, time to go.... WAIT WTF THE HELL IS THAT? OHMYGOD!
*An hour and many, many, many deaths later.*
Ok, done. That was scary. Open door, time to go.
**BOOM** "WTF, mines?" Please tell me I quicksaved...
Ok, good, quicksave. Lets get out of here... Wait a sec. This isn't over yet? But, but, I've looted all the things? Is this a Raider base?
Darnit, this is a Raider base and I'm running low on ammo, I'm existing purely on stimpaks now, no grenades or shenanigans left in my and I'm half rad poisoned. But it's only raiders, I can do this!
Ok, that looks like the door here. Hey what's that whirring sound? That sounds a little like a...
*10 minutes and several deaths later*
"I survived! Ish. Kinda. Maybe. I need another stimpak."
Been playing Mass Effect 3 a lot the last two days. Never played it before or any of the others, but I already think this could be the best £3,70 I've ever spent (thanks Ebay!). Great combat/squad mechanics, the RPG elements are nicely varied without being overly complex, and the aesthetic is awesome. I'm also impressed by the fact that it does epic set piece battles and scenes so well, not something I expected from a game with this much of an RPG element to it,
Just attacking the Geth battleship, and getting quite irked that my cryo ammo isn't working too well on the robots. How else am I supposed to freeze my enemies solid, smash them apart, and proclaim that I'm just breaking the ice?
Got the interior decoration pack for Eurotruck Simulator 2. Aye, purely cosmetic, but at least now I can drive around in style with a bouncing head dog on my dashboard.
Beat Act 2-2 of the skaven campaign in mordheim. I nearly lost due to an idiotic mistake on my part. While disabling most of the traps I sent my assassin lord with nearly no health to dispatch some guy with a great weapon. His attack was either dodged or something and I got hit for some nasty damage as a counter attack and it stunned him instantly. Nobody was nearby and he was low on health. Thankfully I was going to finish that mission on that very turn. Considering how ridiculously long that mission took and just how many chaos guys I killed I am so glad I didn't lose that mission due to a stupid mistake at the last second. I have to remember never to do something so stupid again.
Things are going well in the game my guys are almost all max level with just about all skill points spent on skills, gear is almost all top quality or very close and I even have a decent amount of enchanted stuff whether bought, found (in chests or dead enemies) or given as a reward.
My assassin leader is so maxed out he can basically reliably critically hit an enemy in 1-2 hits which is just how many hits he has in a turn and generally how many it takes to stun them before I gang up on the enemy with the rest of my guys getting automatic hits and criticals to stack on top of the stunned enemy. That said he isn't tooled up to face an enemy that may have counter attacks left so I may need my bigger and meatier soldiers to handle that. That's usually what I do with my warp guards now.
I'm also handling wyrdstone requests super quickly now. I got the previous one finished with at least a good 10 days left to go. My current one has about 14-16 days left and I already have almost half the wyrdstone I need.
Rout checks are annoying sometimes. Sometimes they're helpful and allow you to grab the rest of the wyrdstone on the map and sometimes it's just obnoxious when you kill the enemy down to a guy (about 12 morale left of the 72 minimum before rout checks start being made).
Also in at least 2 games the maxed out poison (the one that debuffs strategy points) basically slowed down powerhouse melee fighters to about 3 strategy points a piece while I just destroyed the rest of them with ranged firepower or attacking in areas the now slow super fighter couldn't get to (which considering skaven means I could easily out-maneuver them).
Other than that my warband is pretty solid. Even the reserve soldiers I almost never use have just about all skill points used in something. Not too long from now i'll have more money than I know what to spend with.
I'm curious about having a super ambush heavy fighter so I'm building my off-duty night runner towards that route. Might be better if I make him a dagger wielding night runner now considering the boosted damage they get when ambushing.
Just to give an idea on where my warband stands I'm at about 3,000 points of rating right now and that doesn't include an impressive unit in the main roster.

Not yet, my plan is to play through this one (which I got as a) it was very cheap and b) I wanted something with a lot of single-player content as my Xbox is currently offline), and then grab the other two and do a complete playthrough with an imported character, hopefully before Andromeda comes out next year.
Haven't been this hooked on a game in quite some time. The biggest draw I'm finding, other than the freedom character/narrative-wise, is how fleshed out the setting and aesthetic is. It really feels to me like playing through a high-budget sci-fi movie.

What's this? Heresy! Seriously though, I really recommend playing through the entire series, since some things that happen in the first and second game can affect parts of the story. The first game is a bit... weird with the gameplay (you will dread hearing the words "Mako," and "drive," in the same sentence), but all three are good at establishing the setting and all three have that narrative freedom that ME3 has.
Watched Silent Hill: Revelation last night and actually quite enjoyed it. Now I want to play the game it was adapted from, Silent Hill 3. Is it any good on PC?
I never got a PS2 (went with Xbox instead) and back when I was still playing PS1 I was too young to play Silent Hill, so I have never played any Silent Hill games.

While I've never played it myself, try to avoid the HD collection. It comes with both Silent Hill 2 and 3, it was panned heavily by fans of the games. They changed a lot, which kind of ruins the experience.
That being said, there is a PC version of the game, just not a recent one.

I remember the controls for Silent Hill 2 were pretty good. It uses tank controls though, so if you've played any of the old Resident Evil games, it's quite similar. As for if it would work, I don't really know. It does mention it's for Windows 2000 and XP though, so it might depend on what kind of PC you have.
Also, dear lord! 6 pounds for the game! The second Silent Hill here costs over 200$!
Looks like someone needs to do some inspirational reading: BOATMURDERED
"I take a look at the maps, and sure enough, this outpost is stuck out in the middle of nowhere, smack in the Smooth Points of Pride. "Boatmurdered" they call it, a name which doesn't bode well for much of fething anything."
Or..
WELCOME TO FETHING BOATMURDERED! Hope you like miasma!
Picked up Black Ops I & II for $20 on Black Friday, thinking I never played II and wanted to try it. Turns out I never finished the original either.
Tried popping both in the Xbox 1. Apparently neither are backwards compatible? WTF? I mean really?
Anyway, I had forgotten how much I loved the flavor of Black Ops, and how much I hated the game play. I don't think I've been murdered that many times in a FPS since Golden Eye.
I'm finding II far better. Wasn't expecting the multiple mission ending options.
I am really not the Call of Duty kind of person, so it is rather odd, but Black Ops has a special place in my heart. Back in the day when my brother had yet to move out of the house, he used to play it and I observed.
Was looking into getting someone a game for Christmas. This person's a horror fan, and likes games with a good story. He usually also only plays xbox and PC Any ideas?

Silent Hill 3, not 2. And no, I've not played the Resident Evil series either.
Kinda getting to the point of being done/bored with Fallout 4. doing some co-op stuff with Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void but otherwise running out of stuff to play.
While playing Saint's Row 4, I somehow decided it would be fun to have the president of the United States look as similar as possible to Geralt from The Witcher. No reason, just thought it would look cool.
Also, it has a dubstep gun and a minigun that fires rockets, a flamethrower, and various machine guns at the same time, while playing Uncle Sam's jukebox in the background. I am so happy I bought the Game of the Century Version.
Also found out Just Cause 2 has a world map of 20 000 square miles, which will make for an interesting road trip when I inevitable decide to drive/ walk/ swim around the perimeter. I also like how this random island is (from what I heard) around a hundred times larger than the world map of Oblivion.
And then I remembered Daggerfall had a world map of 60 000 square miles...
Picked up WoW Warlords of Draenor during BF sales time . I only did a little pandaria but I think I like WoD quite a bit more. The Garrison is just..nifty... And the quests I've done in-between rushing back to micromanage my little fort have been fairly entertaining too. The time travel(?) Thing is kind of confusing as I haven't got time to sit there and read up in it... But its a neat expansion .
Saw magicka2 on sale... Probably miss it this time but one day..
Really hankering to play final fantasy tactics AGAIN. Has anyone tried the android port of the war of the lions remake? I keep seeing crash/force close issues reported and if its really that prevalent I'd rather just emulate the original again.

I can tell you that after a year of WoD, there is very little love for the garrison here.
XCOM with expansion - this time, no mechs. Troop downtime is taking a lot out of my squad.
Starcraft Protoss campaign - It's getting crowded on that ship.
Star Wars Battlefront - Walker Assault is good, the others, not as much.

People miss Pandaria. Throne/Isle of Thunder.
People miss Pandaland? ... No. No, I don't think my brain is capable of comprehending that idea.
I just bought Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void. Problem is, I still haven't finished the last mission in Wings of Liberty or played any of Heart of the Swarm. I guess I need to get busy with that!

WoL's campaign seems better in many ways and even has at least one awesome speech. HotS is mostly about Kerrigan's seeming redemption even though she's constantly going on a path of vengeance that kills crap tons of people. HotS's cinematics are much better than WoL's though. As far as stories go I find WoL's to be better but maybe it's the human touch of the story that does it rather than the animalistic zerg.

How's the game ? I loved Just Cause 2.
Still playing Dwarf Fortress. Almost had fun when the Ocean suddenly unfroze for no reason and flooded my unfinished drowning chamber. I'm glad I set up a floodgate.

Well, considering there have been stories of dorfs embarking on bodies of water...
Just saw that there's a new Dwarf Fortress release. So that's my next few hours set.
I mean, I know there's going to be bug fixes galore coming, like always, I just want to explore the new changes. I might not even do anything other than dig through the raws.
You wouldn't happen to be playing it on PC are you? I've been curious about the game, but I heard rumors that the PC port was awful.
I do play it on PC and thus far I have had no issues with it.
Be aware that it absolutely eats computer power, and unless you have a shiny new computer it will require running it on lowest (which thankfully still looks good).
More mordheim and wargame. My friend and I held onto the left flank in a game of wargame and just slaughtered massed helo with aa helo units and aa infantry as well as his pivadas. They had ground units too but their tanks were fairly minor in comparison. Surprised we held that left flank considering our right fell so hard and they never managed to hit our base or come close for some reason. Time ran out and we won as always. This was against AI though so comp stomp meaning it was a sea of red and mostly just our few soldiers holding out as best they could with our superior tactics and similar. For whatever reason he seems to have a lot of soviet decks with helos and air but then so do I. I just imagined soviet invasions to have lots of tank rushes.
As far as mordheim went I won every battle till the last against some chaos warband. Once again it was the divide into small groups fight where they throw your weakest forces out to die and put your most potent beat-sticks in the middle of effing nowhere. I wasn't doing half bad but the very second I went below rout level I instantly rout. I was only about one point below minimum rout test level. I've seen the enemy hold till the last guy but almost always when I just barely go under I rout. It's obnoxious. I might've even had a chance if it played out.
I'm starting to get the opinion that sisters of sigmar and esp. the chaos warband are OP esp. when you're forced into close distance melee fights at game start (or very nearly in it) or when you're forced into small groups of idiots that can't compliment each other very well. When you are separated it's best to do the set-up yourself so that they don't screw you with random deployment like they so often do with me.
Oh and for whatever reason sisters and chaos warbands seem to crit. far more than usual even when I had a very critical hit heavy warband and good critical hit resistance they'd do it even more than me and sometimes even crit. me with freaking ambush/counter-attacks. God that was annoying. Oh and the headshot skill is supposed to be an instant stun if it hits and yet I'm seeing a bunch of enemies completely immune (esp. with sisters of sigmar and chaos). Wtf is the deal with that? Is it stun resistance being super high? I was under the impression they should stun automatically like the ability says.

Good excuse to finally upgrade the hardware then. Thanks!
Lots of mordheim. Not one loss though at least one close victory that almost turned into a loss. I basically destroyed sisters of sigmar down to one person and they finally rout with only one guy left. Meanwhile I got dangerously close to getting within rout check level myself (which I'd have probably failed even though I had about 4-5 guys to their 1-2. Rout checks need a serious makeover as they can be really unfair sometimes. In a different game I managed to kill off an entire skaven warband without any of my guys falling out of action. I haven't been seeing as many chaos warbands but usually when I do they provide me the most trouble of all. Sisters of sigmar are also challenging fights but chaos are just way too potent. So many heavy attacks and great weapons. I should invest in far better dodging and esp. the specialty abilities that allow multiple dodges or parries. I'm finding those abilities to be ridiculously potent against all enemies even with the skill on henchmen. I must use that more next time esp. since skaven are such expert dodgers.
Oh and I only have one mission left in act 2 before the game is finished. I'm sure the warband can still get more wyrdstone, experience (via wyrdstone, objectives, etc.) and formulas among other things though. I'm very curious about some of the specialty troop types/heroes that you seem to get for giving enough wyrdstone to certain groups. I just want to see what they do. Hopefully I'm not disappointed. I'm just hoping they get some interesting gear proficiencies or higher skill caps in certain areas.
I'm playing War for the Overworld. I'd heard that it was pretty buggy when it was first released so I waited a few months before picking it up. Been playing a few missions.
The gameplay is pretty much fine I think, but the menu screens are a little glitchy.
Buy I love Dungeon Keeper (probably warped me as a kid - I played it to friggin' death). So this is nostalgia heroin for me.
Logged onto Heroes of the Storm for the first time in a few weeks, and it appears that Blizzard has added something new.
Remember the WoW April Fool's Day joke post from waaaaaaaaaay back when Blizzard "revealed" the two-headed ogre race that would require two players to play? Meet Cho-Gall. He's made up of two characters - Cho and Gall - and can only be played by players in a group. There's a special quest to play two matches with him. I didn't try him out myself, but I'm pretty confident that the way he works is that you and a friend who are grouped together pick the "two" ogre characters, and then run him in one body. No idea how movement is handled...

You're correct. To play him you need to have two player's in a party, you can't Solo Queue them. One chooses the "Cho" head, the other the "Gall" Head.
The Cho player controls all movement. He has a short ranged dash after a windup, the ability throw out a slow straigh line skill shot bomb, and an AoE DOT that heals him a little bit.
The Gall player, acts like a permanent Abathur hat so is just an ability turret taped to gall's booty. He has this slow bouncing blob attack, a straight line skillshot on a low CD and the ability to detonate the bombs the cho player throws out for aoe damage.
Cho's first ult is an hammer that upgrades his auto attacks and lets him do a frontal cone knockback stun on a moderate CD.
Cho's second ult is large cone AoE tractor-beam type move.
Gall's first ult is rapid fire burst of projectiles that do insane amounts of damage but are very slow to aim.
Gall's second ult is an AoE slow that he can detonate for decent damage in a large AoE around them.
For appearance, the game chooses at random if it'll use the "Cho" player's skin or mount. The "Gall" player's choice gets applied to the one (skin or mount) that the Cho player didn't.
As for me I just picked up Xenoblade Chronicles X and it's feeling pretty solid so far. I kind of miss the use of a UK voice cast from the first game, which game it a lot of personality. That said given all the characters are explicitly american in this one I guess that wouldn't make sense.
Wishing other people here were playing Mordheim so I could at least talk about it with a response or two :(. I think i'll try empire next (mercenaries) whenever I get bored with skaven.

Yes i have all the dlc, finished the dark below and on the last leg of the house of Wolves. Witch is a complete snorefest, playing on the Ps4 . I have all the gear i could ever need. But the Taken king dlc seems just like a reskin of some enemies and a new dull lump of space rock to hop around on
Slowly been getting into the controls of Elder Scrolls: Arena. I grew up with games that didn't have much in terms of difficulty, so I'm finding myself dying a lot, but good thing it's possible to save wherever. Also got full plate armor and it hasn't even been the second dungeon yet.
Also, anyone else noticing a lot of older games are getting sequels or reboots? Half-Life 3, System Shock 3, and a Final Fantasy 7 remake have supposedly been announced (well... leaked for HL3 anyway).
Seriously though, stuff like this just elicits a yawn from me. Theres no indication that this leak is any different from the hundreds of leaks over the last 8 years. I'll believe it when we get a release date and an official trailer. Valve just doesn't give a feth about making games anymore, they're sitting on the mountain of cash that is Steam. Really, how many games have they released in the last 3 years? Just Counterstrike GO?
Some company had apparently been contracted to work on it (HL2E4) and didn't do a good job so Valve sacked them, some screens from it surfaced this week or last, Something along those lines anyway.
Last I heard, they'd decided to scrap the episodic model and were jumping straight to Half Life 3.
Makes sense anyway. Its been so long and the tech has advanced so much, it wouldn't make sense to call the next game the third episode of Half Life 2. It'll be a new game in its own right.

So they're too lazy and flush with cash to do it themselves, and are farming the IP out? That never ends well...

You should check out the Sparrow Racing League event that's going on for the next three weeks. It's pretty fun and a great way to not get bored of the repetition of the maps.

If I liked the vehicel parts of the game I would do that, but no. Hopefully they release some content that acctually add a new sense of life to this game and its backstory.
Out of water, I dumped the wounded in the evil land near my fort, where it snows blood all the time, to let them die of thirst. I hope they will rise as zombies.

Spoiler:
Ooh! You can use them as cannon fodder for a military! It would be hard to contain them, but if you could maybe make a room, throw a dwarf in there to lure the zombies in, and then have a floodgate or something to seal them in, there are your guard zombies. Just let them out if the elves or goblins stop by.
Ah, DF. It's a good game, but the interface designed by a monkey that's been dropped on it's head one too many times just kills it for me.
Also that "I won't upgrade the graphics!" thing annoys me. Just some simple sprites isn't going to somehow ruin your game. It's only going to improve it. The graphics packs that are out there improve it greatly, and really show what could be done with it if the creator wasn't so stubborn.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Been getting into Starbound, the combat update just got released.
Played through the opening level of Silent Hill 3...took me 30 min and had to look up a guide then I found out the level would have ended whether I got to the end, or was killed by the monsters.
Good Lord are the controls and camera janky.
Anyone know how to do a "quick turn around" on pc?
I had an embark in a frozen land- wanted to make a fortress entrance out of ice. Embarked with an aquifer, used the screw-pump method to get through it, but when I tried putting in a well, with the aquifer (which, by the way, was pooling nicely next to the farms) it just froze.

Wait. There's a way to, "pump," out aquifer?
Teach me sensei! Many a fort I had to abandon because I couldn't get past the darn stuff (though it did make for some nice overland games).
Alright, gonna lay down some Dwarf Fortress Aquifer busting tips for ya'all.
First method- the Collapse method.
This one is simple, yet also somewhat dangerous. What you do is find your aquifer, and dig out a room above it (make it a pretty big room)- then channel out the floor of that room- the area channeled will flood, due to Aquifer. Then, make sure you have a layer or two (or more) of stuff above that- dirt, stone, what have you. Dig and channel around that so that the central 'plug' of earth collapses into the flooded aquifer-level channeled room you prepped earlier- you should now be able to dig through the center of this area- this is why you need a large room.
Benefits of this technique are that it doesn't require anything but mining- downsides are that it's somewhat unreliable and difficult to pull off.
Second Method- Screw Pumps.
Now Screw Pumps are part of the Engineering side of things, and so are a little more complex than some. The thing to know about them is they're 2 tiles wide, pump from below one tile, and to the side of the other.
diagram, where 0:0 is the pump, =>is output, w is water.
0:0=>wwwww
W
Screw pumps take a Giant Corkscrew, some blocks, and I think a mechanism- all things that can be made out of wood and/or stone- the corkscrew is a basic crafting thing, the Mechanism must be made at a Machine Shop (or whatever its called- it's been a while). You can orient them when you build them, but you need to do a little setup first. Then, the pump must be manned by a Dorf- these guys can really pump, though. One screw pump will generally be able to remove water faster than the aquifer can replenish it, and so you'll have a relatively dry area that you can then dig through- be sure to wall off your stairs or shaft first, though. And make sure you have someplace for the water to go- if you mine out a large area, that can make a good farm once the water dries/goes back into the aquifer. There's also a trick to putting the water back into the aquifer, but I'm not entirely sure how that works.
I still think it's the weakest of the Elder Scrolls titles. Animation and gameplay are in that strange inbetween place where they were starting to figure out realistic looking stuff, but hadn't mastered 'Realism', and the story is, I think, an odd duck among the Elder Scrolls, seeing as you're not actually the Protagonist.
Every now and again, I get the urge to restart Oblivion. Usually, I last up until right about the time that the game forces me to listen to Martin give a speech.
Listening to him give a speech usually kills any further urge I have to play the game.
>.<
I suspect a lot of people like it because it was the first Elder Scrolls game that they played. Morrowind was the first big hit in the series, but it and the earlier games looked dated by the time Oblivion was released. And while I may be misremembering, my recollection is that Oblivion was the first game in the series to get a truly massive amount of PR before the game was released. That was likely due to Morrowind showing a big enough profit to justify the added cost of an expensive pre-release ad campaign. Something like that would have drawn in additional players who otherwise would have been unaware of the game.
It's interesting, because Morrowind wasthe first one I played, and it's still my favorite. But how much of that is also nostalgia?
I remember being disappointed by Oblivion's setting, because the forests and plains and mountains seemed so bland in comparison to the almost alien feeling that Morrowind had.
Morrowind is a legit good game. The issues people have with it are all due to things like graphical fidelity and quality of animations, and a lot of that can be fixed through mods on computer. The story, actual gameplay, and of course setting, all stand up to time.
Oblivion isn't bad, per se, but it is kinda awkward.
I'm playing even more Hearthstone, especially that they are now allowing you to use in-game gold to get the single-player adventures (and their exclusive cards!). I've unlocked the first wing of League of Explorers and beaten the first enemy already.
Playing Fallout 4. Far too much fallout 4. Not sure I will ever get bored of mowing down a horde of ferals with a legendary, silenced, armour piercing tommy gun which fires explosive bullets. I can make it rain body parts.

Totalbiscuit is not optimistic about the future longevity of Battlefront.
Currently playing as Kingdom of Mercia, I have little over half of England conquered, with a full stack army on the way up to finish the job. I like Mercia's bonuses as it makes a longer campaign in hostile territory easier, doubling the amount of prisoners that join after a victorious battle.
I may have to bring the northern invasion army back down south, or at least middle of England, as the Kingdom of the Danes has two fleets near my coast. If they are focused on tomfoolery, I'll focus on them, then get back to subduing the Isles, then launch a counter invasion and knock the Danes down a peg. They have a sizeable ally directly to their south, and it takes my armies awhile to sail, so I'll have to go big or not at all.
After that, if Charlemagne's Frankish superpower empire remains peaceful and profitable, I intend to strike at the Emirate of Cordoba and its Muslim vassal kingdoms in Spain, and help out the Asturians with driving the Muslims out of Europe. That will give me a base to then launch a pincer invasion into mainland Europe when I turn against Charlemagne, if he doesn't first.
Picked up Company of Heroes. I'm more of a fan of Dawn of War personally, even though both games were made by the same company, but I like some of the gameplay aspects. Being able to build defensive structures anywhere you controlled territory was pretty cool, and I liked how it was slightly less of an arms race like Dawn of War. Only thing I didn't like was the fact you could only play as the US and Britain, but it's still pretty cool.
Also, I've been looking into getting Mass Effect 3 for PC through Origin, but I can't seem to find any of the DLC there. Anyone know if they removed it?
You should be able to play as the Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite as well. - I've not heard of any version of the game that restricts your faction choice to either Allies or Axis.
To be honest, I massively prefer COH's gameplay to any of the Dawn of War games. It was just the perfect scale.

I have Company of Heroes and I can play as the Axis.
(By the way, you should try the Blitzkrieg mod)

I suspect that it's purchased from within the game itself. But you should probably double-check that. I played the Xbox version, and ended up not buying any of the DLC besides the one that came with the Digital Deluxe version that I purchased. So I'm not entirely certain how the PC users are supposed to handle it.

It's fething depressing watching Leinster now, like that Toulouse game a few days ago was a bloody shocker. And the 8-5 game against Ulster was probably one of the shittest displays of sports I've ever had the misfortune of watching, and I used to play football as a 6 year old and do Power Rangers moves that I saw on TV.

Anyhow, I can really understand how a team losing one of it's key players can really hurt it's performances until they manage to adapt to his absence (talking BOD here of course).
Pretty fun, so far. Mission difficulty is a bit off though in the campaign - some missions are a total walkover, and others are really hard due to the set up.
The campaign actually has a PLOT that goes a bit further than "Be Evil, Conquer the World".
One thing I find frustrating is that I've played 10 missions and this was the first time I felt like I could build my dungeon as I wanted without environmental limitations like large amounts of rock, water or empty space. Another peeve is not being able to wander around your dungeon after you've won the mission it ends rather abruptly. A "press blah to end" function would have been nice. I like to be really thorough in my conquering!

Classic Carter As a supporter of the Wallabies, it's nice seeing the northern hemisphere suffer outside of the World Cup years!
Yeah, it kinda blows, but we've got guys like Sean O'Brien, Jamie Heaslip, Ian Madigan and Sexton - you'd think that they'd be able to do something decent with them! Alas, Sexton's gak at the moment, and you get the Toulon/Wasps result.
DoW2 on Captain. Eldar are bs. The Avatar should not have an instant kill AoE ability that can almost reach the nearest spawn point from the edge of the arena.
Like wise, the Farseer should not have an attack that instantly kills your squad with no warning.
Beat the first Mass Effect game in my third yearly playthrough of the series. Thought I'd also look for the DLC that I got with Mass Effect 2, and found it was pretty tough to track down the DLC I got. Doesn't help I have the steam versions of both ME1 and ME2, and this is my first tike playing them on PC, so playing scavenger hunt with the Bioware site was pretty tough.
I also like how my PC that has trouble loading games with good graphics can somehow run ME2 much better than ME1.
Dusted of Skyrim again after a few years and have sunk a few hours into it. I've yet to play the thief or assasin Guilds so there's stuff to do and it's nice to be back in the nord atmosphere.

The thieves guild was probably the biggest disappointment for me. Didn't feel fully fleshed out. But there are mods that help.
Did a bit of Starbound. The new update for combat is pretty cool. I made a new character who is a novakid based off of Andrew Jackson. (Named Hydro Jettison, it's the best pun I could come up with). I'm currently shooting any alien I meet, and having a great time doing it.
What exactly gets imported from the DoW2 save?
I looked around and its never clear.
I know that levels and traits get carried over, but what about equipment? Is it only the stuff I have equipped?
Does that mean I have to dress everyone in terminator armor?

Funny how Eldar are OP even in the DoW series. Man if you ever played against them when they released the avatar of khaine and got a pop cap boost as well as production boost. Super lame. Tau and necrons were also bad. Funny how it's exactly like the tabletop game in that respect :(.

IIRC the level of your characters and all your wargear (Including non equipped stuff) gets carried over. All your terminator equipment gets "broken" though and will not be available untill after a while into the compaing. So there's really no reason to go after all the terminator suits.

Then there's the webway gate mess from Dark Crusade. There was one area especially, the northern one between both the Eldar and Blood Ravens strongholds. Problem was, this area was us big, you could spend as long as 3 hours (longest for me was 5) hunting bonesingers and invisible bases (since webway gates could cloak buildings.
Of course, it's also a lot of fun to use this tactic on a CPU enemy. Watching them blunder about while your base is on an almost unreachable roof can make for some one-sided games.
Did a bit more of Starbound. Just finished the Floran Party, and it was cool to see that it's a bit more explained in game on what's happening. Now I need to get some resources and fight the mech.
I also started the DC campaign, this time as the necrons. I could never get around to beating it as them, I find playing them repeatedly a bit tedious. I loved playing through it as orks though, I gladly beat the snot out of every race as the orks.

Oh yeah I remember. Don't even get me started how their tech levels were researched like tau meaning you could destroy their HQ and they'd still be at tier 3-4. You basically wanted to kill their stupid tier researching building which had a crap ton of health. They could also teleport bases and troops between webway gates. Not only that but their builders could teleport a super long distance and build webway gates meaning on certain maps getting a base made behind yours and taking a force in the bum was very possible and in big maps playing 'hunt the webway gates/bonesinger' was a pain and refuge of the sore loser eldar players.
Necrons were slow but hard to stop and could keep rebuilding guys. Their base soldier had a gajillion upgrades to make them insanely durable and potent at shooting too.
Then you had to deal with tau which could viably attack you with a mostly cloaked force and have fire warriors with such long range they could shoot without being spotted mostly. Worst of all were those stupid broadsides as an IG player it was rough to face. Yes their weakness is melee and it's too bad we didn't have much besides the assassin to kill them.
I like how orks final tier spam boyz for free upgrade was fun but if you lived to that point it was mostly just for laughs and didn't do much besides hold the enemy at bay. If you were on the losing end it often wouldn't save you. Then again I didn't play dark crusade too much. Winter assault was my main game for a while mostly due to playing imperial guard.
I find it crazy how long it took for the basilisk to shoot earthshaker rounds and it cost a crap ton per round. Meanwhile tau got that rocket spam that was almost as good and shorter range but much quicker at firing.
Started a new playtrough of the witxher 3, but it seems the game will not allow me to Get to Velen, i just Get a Message telling me that the game content is not ready,
So, just got burnt out on Marvel heroes and just cause 3, plus fallout 4.
Just cause 3 wasn't the best game I anticipated either. The stupid spawning system is really annoying, and lack of either a minimap or health bar really kills the game as well. I understand why they did it, but I can't play as good as I used to with Just cause 2.
Fallout 4 I've hit level 25 now, and finding quests a bit tricky to find., going to go with the brotherhood, as the minutemen are too lovely dovey, the railround is just too aggravating, and I'm not into letting robotics fester as the institute.
Co'tor Shas wrote: How are you finding the combat update? Everything doing damage on touch now it a bit annoying, but I found the new weapons an abilities a lot of fun.
The new weapons and abilities are great. I've found assault rifles that I actually like, compared to before, where I never used them. Flashlights on shotguns is nice too for cave clearing and the like.

Stealth was just completely broken in that game. Invisible Chaos Marines, Invisible Tau that could cap you stratigic points without any worries what so ever. (By stratigic points I mean the ones you can't build a watchpost on) Elar and invis everything!
Tau I found are awesome at defense but are no so great at offense. Broadsides need a spot where they can't be flanked to be at their best.
That said, using 2 Squads of Broadsides, 2 Missiles gunships, and 3 Units of Fire Warriors I defeated a full Space Marine attack. Including the Land Raider and all of their heroes.
All in all, Orks were too weak, Eldar too strong, and Stealth incredibly broken
As to what I've been playing, I tried out Unturned, Eh, It's okay. But I just don't think it's for me.
Downloaded heroes of might and magic 6. It's pretty good, gonna keep playing it until I get my hands on Fallout 4 in about a week.
Currently downloading Blood Bowl 2. We'll see how that turns out
Well, I did some more Starbound. This time I focused on making a colony on an ocean world. One house still spawns monsters despite everything I do to change it. I don't know what's wrong with it, when a house so similar to it is completely fine.
I also found a way to make an air lock for underwater mining facilities. My current one is hilariously unrealistic. Maybe in the future I will make one more realistic, but for now my wooden doors remain strong.
I really need to get back into Starbound again, solo this time though, so I can figure everything out at my own pace, instead of my brother charging through everything at a breakneck rate.
About an eighth through Elder Scrolls: Arena. I swear, the render distance is so short, I actually sometimes jump back a bit when I accidentally dash into a minotaur. Fang Lair, one of the first main dungeons in the game, was terrifying because of this.
I just got home from a 1v1 with Olofmeister, one of the players in fnatic, arguably the best CS: GO team in the world. 5-1. I got rekt. But, I won a copy of Rainbow Six: Siege! Installing right now.
If you've played Warlock 1, then you've pretty much played Warlock 2. I got it on sale a while back and never felt like I was playing a sequel, just Warlock 1 with a new name, a few mechanics that don't work very well and, from what I can tell, is less stable than W1.
I'd recommend getting Endless Legend over it, or Warlock 1 if you've not got that.
AoW3 I'm also not a fan of, but that's largely a personal preference.
Playing a lot of 'Wargame: Red Dragon' after 'Mordheim' got boring. Somehow this game is just such a great RTS game. So many different weapons and many are useful (probably not all). Missile spam tends to kill infantry well like much AoE. Artillery whether smoke based or normal kind is good. Some cluster or napalm munitions artillery is also decent (mostly on the soviet side). The different types of tanks are good for different reasons. Some tanks fire on the move, some do it accurately, some are frail but fast, some can take a beating, some shoot faster than others and that sort of thing. That said weaker tanks are better vs a spam of various things from infantry to light vehicles whereas more powerful tanks counter lighter tanks most of the time (unless flanked and/or stunned) and tend to handle a spam of light tanks the best.
The amount of different aircraft is also huge. Some specialize and some don't (usually they have slight aa with bombs). Then there's the cluster bombs (ap based), explosive bombs (AoE based and can stun as well as destroy lots of infantry), cluster rockets (more AoE), napalm (good for stunning enemies with the added benefit of making some areas inaccessible for a while which is good when holding back a push and slowly damages various things), fighter craft (aa aircraft) and SEED aircraft (anti-radar aa aircraft and can be fairly effective at their job).
Then there's different types of guns. Stuff like 30 mm guns or better tend to destroy light vehicles fairly well (comvats and otomatics rock at this). I already described tanks. Recoilless rifles are decent vs vehicles and infantry. AT rockets are better at killing tough tanks and such (helos, infantry and even vehicles have these).
I'm not the best at it and avoid the multiplayer unless they're a close group of friends considering how toxic it is. You can see it in global chat yourself if you don't believe me. Popular games have a way of attracting the crappier parts of society (insults, racial slurs, Nazi symbols and other such idiocy).
Anyway the game is varied with weapons and units and the list just goes on and on. There are units I don't like but I may just need practice with them or may use them in restricted decks. There's so much to the game and it can be a bit overwhelming but is a really fantastic game every RTS player should try at some point.
@djphranq: I will also recommend 'Endless Legend'. Great story, great music and fun gameplay. The 'Endless' series has a way of making unique and creative factions in fictions that otherwise wouldn't have it (fantasy generally is Tolkien-esque and sci-fi has far too many humanoid species). Each faction has a unique flavor to it (could use more faction specific units though). Though a friend didn't like the Drakken (dragon/reptilian people) I could imagine their forced diplomacy and forcing of peace and alliance and such can be ridiculously powerful provided you have the influence points. Broken lords are also fairly fun as they can heal with dust and don't use food (basically similar to the harmony faction in 'Endless Space').
I recently got into Dota 2. I'm having a hard time getting the hang of it. I'm just playing bot matches for now, as I am far from ready for actual PvP action yet.
ZergSmasher wrote: I recently got into Dota 2. I'm having a hard time getting the hang of it. I'm just playing bot matches for now, as I am far from ready for actual PvP action yet.
I don't think I'll ever be ready for proper PvP on DotA.
I can handle my favourite heroes well enough in medium bot games, and a select few rather more powerful heroes (e.g. sniper) in hard. Hard/Insane I need human allies, though, since the enemy AI gets better and outright cheats where allied bots get dumber, to the point of being pure liabilities. I'm not ashamed to admit that I regularly type angry, expletive-laden rants about my team in pure bot games.
I do occasionally do Limited Heroes PvP, even if most of my favourites aren't in it. The games are mostly one-sided, though, and there are definite picks that can really weight the match. Generally, if someone picks Sniper within seconds, the team they're on will win, unless their other four players are brain-dead. A sniper pick that quickly usually indicates someone who knows how to use him well, and there's very little to counter that in LH. It's possible, but difficult. A quick Viper or Razor pick is equally as bad or worse. I would recommend you pick Sniper yourself and learn how to use him, but I don't have that much hatred for humanity.
If you do eventually venture into LH, learn how to play Bounty Hunter, Lich, and possibly Windranger. BH is one of the best counters to squishy carry heroes lime Sniper and Drow Ranger you'll get in Limited Heroes, and can turn games against them around. Lich is a rather forgiving hero, solid on his own, in lane, and team-fights with his ultimate, and his buff helps ward against characters relying on attack speed to deal damage; my advice is to grab Aghanim's Scepter fairly early on. In LH most enemy players panic easily, and Lich's ultimate is excellent at causing it, but the bounce limit reduces it's effectiveness. Aghanim's scepter removes it, and will often mean that entire teams run away to try and get away from it, but all clustered and in the same direction, causing the spell to continue bouncing between them until they scatter or die. This can turn teamfights into hilarious routs on its own.
Windranger takes a while to use well, but in the hands of a capable player can be a great support and even a semi-carry. I'd say any LH team would benefit from a Windranger who knows what they're doing, and because of her learning-curve and lack of immediate appeal, she's a rare pick in Limited Heroes--so you likely needn't fear being beaten to her, and most won't know how to counter her.
Viper is also a safe pick, but his effectiveness falls off over time. Razor can be deadly but requires a fair amount of skill and decent ability to predict enemy heroes. Warlock is also good but requires a fair amount of finesse to use well, and is a reasonably common pick for sheer coolness factor, so may not always be available.
Sniper ? Hard countered by Nyx, Spirit Breaker or Clockwerk.
If you want to play in low-level pubs (in All Pick or Random Draft), you should try Broodmother. You can win a game in 20 minutes if your team push other lanes when you're wrecking one. She needs some micro, but nothing really difficult.
LethalShade wrote: Sniper ? Hard countered by Nyx, Spirit Breaker or Clockwerk.
Not one of which is available in Limited Heroes, hence why I said there's very little to counter him in there.
Unless you've a thick skin, I'm not sure about jumping into AP. There's a definite dislike of inexperienced players, and mistakes are more often ridiculed by teammates than helped. I'd play LH until you can limit your mistakes, and use a safe hero--Lich is rather safe--to test the waters of AP. Don't rush Ahgs unless you've another support buying Mekanism, and grab a Force Staff for escapes, as well as wards when needed. Aside from that help in lane, buff before teamfights, and don't waste your ultimate.
Once you know how AP works, and are confident you can use other heroes in it, start looking outside the LH roster.
I'm still playing battlefront. I'm not the biggest fan of shooters and I hate that there's no story/campaign but it's lots of fun playing the really big 40 man games with stormtroopers tearing across the battlefield and xwings & tie fighters wizzing around overhead.

Yes, it's pretty amazingly written. Yes, I just said that Bioware has good writing.
My favorite char is my trooper who is about to enter Chapter 3. It's so refreshing to finally play a character who is NOT the superawesomebadass hero. You're a regular soldier with no super powers, taking orders and executing them. You're an outstanding soldier, but you still are a soldier - and you do your duty. Or not, it's your choice.
You should really try Imperial Agent. It's an amazing story, one of the best video game stories I have ever experienced. You (can) play a reasonable Imperial character who isn't a psychopathic murderer, but who actually makes good decisions in order to maintain stability and order. It's a nice look at what the Dark Side really is about.

I know they have increased clip sizes and high RoF, but they seem to deal no damage. I always die before the enemy.
I had more success with Vanu.

I've played the 2000 game, and it's pretty good. The funny thing is, both games are by the same developer.
There's also Monolith's AvP 2. Response to it was mixed, though I liked the story. I understand the add-on to it was bad, though.

You might be having trouble with bullet drop and travel time, then- Vanu have no drop, and their glowy bullets make it easier to lead targets at some ranges. I'd suggest practicing in the VR with your weapon of choice, to get used to the drop and lead at certain ranges.

I know they have increased clip sizes and high RoF, but they seem to deal no damage. I always die before the enemy.
I had more success with Vanu.
I'm Terran but I mostly use Nano Systems weapons.
The basic TR weapons excellent in close quarters. Slap a laser sight onto a carbine and hip fire.
The Prowler tanks make fun long range fixed artillery guns if you get the anchored deployment mode. Park on a mountain and engage the enemy from at least one kilometre away, two ideally. They're good at picking off stationary deployed sunderers, especially on Indar with its wide open deserts and mountains.
Played the required two games with Cho-Gall. He's a hoot to play. Dunno how he'd do competitively, but he destroyed the AI heroes we were playing against.

Be careful going into the Glowing Sea. I have a friend who plays with that mod, has a Titan, but still occasionally crashes when he goes into the Sea at the wrong time.

Sniper? Pfft. I play Engineer mostly and snipe with my missile turret.
Oh goody, I do love static targets who think they're safe behind a shield with a nice head sized slot in it

You might be having trouble with bullet drop and travel time, then- Vanu have no drop, and their glowy bullets make it easier to lead targets at some ranges. I'd suggest practicing in the VR with your weapon of choice, to get used to the drop and lead at certain ranges.
I think a lot of it also has to do with your playstyle. Some people like to play Eng or med but I'm too much of a k/d guy to do that for long, I played mostly heavy and was only OK at it, switched to Infiltrator and Im much happier. Nothing makes me feel greater than getting a 200+ metre parabolic head shot. I like spotting for other people as well and getting the teamwork going, as thats how you really "win" this game.
YMMV, switch around the classes and see what you enjoy doing
I picked up the Mass Effect collection and the Doom collection from the steam sale.
Meanwhile, I've made little progress in Starbound. I just got aegisalt armor/weapons. Haven't fought the boss for that tier though. I have made plans to colonize the actual ocean of an ocean planet, instead of the islands.

However it contains an RTS game within it that uses 3rd person perspective that doesn't quite work. I'm sure that turns a lot of people off. I'll give 'em points for trying to be original though.
Yeah, the RTS part was interesting, but not that well done.
It was intended to be for the multiplayer (which the game appeared to have been designed for, due to the lack of the campaign's content), but as no one plays the MP, that plan quickly backfired.
They should have scrapped the MP and focused on the story. The ending was too abrupt. Like, I kill Doviculous and that's it? The empire is gone? What, are all the demons connected to him via a hive mind or something?
Did some Mass Effect. I'm loving the game, but am having a hard time deciding on who I should have on my party. I like Garrus, because he reminds me of a Kroot. I'm love Wrex, but he definitely is an issue with diplomacy. Of course, Tali is sweet as well. This is a hard decision.
Still on Fallout 4... just found my first "game breaking" moment....
Was given my quarters in the Institute (which, after having the game for a month, wasn't my first time doing this)... and I notice that the toilet paper roll is on wrong!!!

Even more evidence that the Institute is wrong.
Is it the normal way where the paper goes over or was it one of those under weirdos? God I can't stand those people.
I've been playing more Wargame: Red Dragon. It's been fun but currently I have no headphones so it'll be a pain to deal without sound.
Been alternating between Battlefront (my god, this game is awesome!) and Tomb Raider Definitive Edition (my god, this game is awesome!). Also plan to grab the new Arkham Knight DLC later.
I was reminded of the simple joys of Skyrim today. My Argonian was wandering about, and stumbled upon a mining village just as some Imperial soldiers did too. There was a fight I stayed out of, they died, and I happily went over to loot their arrows. So I'm rummaging through corpses when a little girl runs up and says something like "Oh, what did you pick up? I wish I saw that!"
Then she looks down and in a matter of fact tone says "Agh! Dead body." And wanders off.
I reinstalled wow and nabbed WoD when it was on sale. One month down into the second and I'm just not sure I'm feeling it. Don't have enough hours in the day to really do the stuff I'd like to anymore. I mean even one. Or two some days. But not really, young kids and playing wow (and having fun while doing so) doesn't work out for me. The garrison stuff is neat but that's all I have time for and it gets boring.
On the other hand I picked up the FFT:WotL android app/game/whatever. I really like the enhanced translation, the extra class, well basically the extra stuff. I think the PSP version had more meat what with the multiplayer stuff, but this was worth the cost to me. It does crash very occasionally but usually when navigating menus or after I save, only lost one actual battle from a crash in quite a few hours. They sped up the gameplay/dialog a tad too so it's not as quick as playing the PS1 version on an emulator with the benefit of the framerate acceleration, but fast enough.
Dark Knight was a pain but it's very fun for Ramza to finally have knightly sword skills.
Since I bought a new Tartarus to go with WoW, I'm looking into revisiting some of my older unplayed steam backlog, or possibly getting Magicka2. Couldn't do it with a keyboard but now that my default play style is open again.. may try it out.
Oh, here's a question for you folks... I recently acquired an Asus Transformer Book Chi or whatever, and was wondering if Steam (or where ever, really) had any games that translated well for play on a large tablet? I thought I might try FTL but I have a feeling I'd need a right click and get frustrated quickly. Same situation for BG/IWD/etc, it *feels* like you could tablet it as you can play with just a mouse, but readily available right click/ drag is too easy to take for granted. Anything on Steam that's readily point and click that a tablet can manage? I can just dock it and plug in peripherals but I was looking for something I could do to take advantage of the portability.

Then I played Sim City 2000.
Aw man. I wish I could find the disc for that. Used to play it all the time- still have the box and the instruction manual/guide, but no disc.
About Planetside- Even in the same class, you can have drastically different playstyles- Infiltrators can either be long-range sniper/spotters, or can run around behind enemy lines wreaking havok with SMGs and mines, or be mid-distance snipers with some of the newer weapons they got. Engineers can be set up for either anti-infantry or anti-tank, with their turrets, or as 'brobox' deployers (ammo) or are often used as dedicated vehicle pilots. Medics can either use their heal guns, or have heal/revive grenades to do mass resurrections. And Heavy Assault can get some interesting differences in playstyle as well, especially Vanu. My Heavy has 4 different loadouts- close-range combat with a shotgun and frags, mid-range combat with the usual LMG, long-range anti-tank where I use the Lancer and LMG, and my close-range anti-tank/suppression build, with the Lasher to keep infantry heads down, and a combination of dumbfire rockets and anti-tank grenades to deal with vehicles.
Is it the normal way where the paper goes over or was it one of those under weirdos? God I can't stand those people.
In the game, the TP was going under the roll.... fething world breaking!!
Honestly, I think I only have the RR and minutemen endings before I shelve the game until DLC/Expansions come out.
Game-breaking. Completely unplayable 1 out of 10!
Not to mention that's immersion breaking. You mean to tell me the world is a nuclear wasteland populated by super mutants, children that make their own cities and somehow nobody could rebuild after hundreds of years? Fine. Toilet paper is still done going under instead of over? Impossible. I can't believe a future would be so bleak.
My brother got us both Vermintide, it's good fun so far.
However, Steam is fethed up something awful right now, pages at random turn to German or Russian, or the prizes of games turn to foreign currency like the British squiggly sign. What the feth Valve?!
Apperantly it's a catching issue. From what I've found, it's causing 2 glitches: either changing the store page to a different language, or worse, grants access to another account's personal info, email and the last four digits of the account's credit card (if the info has been saved).
Before anyone panics, according to Valve, this is a glitch in the system, not a hack. In addition, from what I heard, transactions are not really possible from other peoples' accounts, so it may be unlikely too much personal info will be accessed.
For now however, it's recommended to stay off Steam until this is solved.
Did some Ark on the xbone. I lost my dodo, my guess is it starved to death due to my inattentiveness while I built my house. However, I got a parasaur, and am on the hunt for a phiomia, as I got a saddle for one from a supply drop.
I also did some Fallout 4, and I must say, the character creator for it has been great to me. (But not to my character, he's hideous )

I hear complaints that you can't leave your settlers alone for long, otherwise they do stupid stuff and get killed. Any issues related to this?
News to me.
Settlers in Banished will always try to fulfill their needs and do their jobs. Settlers that aren't assigned jobs default to the laborer role, and focus on assigned land clearance. Plus, there's not really anything that settlers can do in Banished that's immediately suicidal. You need to get houses up right away at the start to keep your settlers from freezing to death (and at the hardest difficulty level, you will lose people if you don't immediately start building). But you don't need to worry about them drowning themselves, or anything like that.
I've been rediscovering one of my favorites from when I was younger: Total Annihilation (courtesy of Steam). That game, although its graphics are very dated by today's standards, is amazing. It gave the original Starcraft a run for its money back in the day, or so I hear.

I've managed to get a good food reserve up, but I'm starting to struggle with firewood.

I reinstalled KOTOR and started another playthrough! This time with some mods to boot!
Best mod ever lets you begin the game as a Jedi. Loving it so far.
The Old Republic continues KOTOR 2 in a really good manner and picks up Revan again. There is a canon Revan, though, created after what most players did.
I've managed to get a good food reserve up, but I'm starting to struggle with firewood.
I'll sometimes have shortages of firewood. But adding another woodcutter usually resolves the issue after a bit. Also keep an eye on how far your woodcutters have to travel to collect more wood.

I just got a coal mine up as well - so far all my resources are going well!
I'm playing my first Telltale game, Game of Thrones.
The actual gameplay part of it is pretty dire (am I supposed to be using the mouse, the keyboard, what?).
But the world building and story stuff is awesome. I'm thinking literally everyone I meet is going to be stabbing me in the back at the drop of the hat.
I'm still searching for something reasonably simple to play on my tabtop. I've resigned myself to using the keyboard docked and even the mouse/tartarus if necessary, but I still want something vaguely simple that can be put down at the drop of a hat (as I'm tackled by children).
It's worth saying, though, probably not the best game to be playing with children around. - A character just launched a tirade at a 12 year old boy which would get me banned from dakka in a nanosecond if I were to ever repeat it.
Yeah, that's one reason I won't be installing the walking dead game(s) or some of my other stuff for use on the tabtop upstairs. I want something nice and low key like a good RPG or something simple. Magicka may work out though I need the game pad for that. I'd continue playing Agarest but some of the conversations get a bit weird for having it on around wife/children, and the second game has embarrassing boob-physics DoA style during talking parts of the game =/
Compel wrote: You could possibly get away with "Tales from The Borderlands." - Watching that, it didn't seem too nasty.
Of course, the perfect one would be "Minecraft: Story Mode."
Tales from the Borderlands has a few scenes with some very unusual violence and/or gore. And every now and again, the language gets a little bit vulgar (Ramirez's comment early in the game about the shape of spaceships - which ironically doesn't really apply to ships in the Borderlands setting - is the worst that it gets iirc). Just things to be aware of.
I started playing Game of Thrones, finished the first two episodes as they were released, and then decided to set it aside until they finished the whole thing. And now that the last episode is out, I still haven't gone back to it.
