Hey everyone. I am doing this blog for the usual reasons, motivation, advice, etc, and hope to update frequently. I had been out of the 40k scene for a long time, (completely missed 4th edition) and decided around christmas time to pick up the hobby again as I missed having something creative to do. This is what I have done in that time. I decided on an Ork army because well, orks/orcs are awesome, and there is alot of variety in the models as far as painting and conversion work. I want a fairly colourfull and diverse army and I think I am on the right track. None of da boyz have a unified colour scheme, but I feel they look cohesive enough. So if you are still reading this thank you. On to the pics

This is my first squad awaiting the Nob leader and their Trukk transport to be called complete. The one in the middle of the third picture is the first model I have painted in several years and at the time I was pleased with him, but I feel like I have improved alot while painting the squad and he is now not as good as the rest in my eyes, though I am still happy with him.

Ummm...these are very good. I love the rust effects on the weapons.

One question though...any particular reason you had to post 8 topics about this? Also, the three bottom photos are kind of small...could you make them bigger?

Sorry guys, I have fixed the pics and honestly don't know how I created eight near identical threads. I hope it's not some kind of record. I think there may have been some confusion between the preview and submit button. I apologize to the mods who have to clean up my mess.

Best looking Orks I have seen thus far....considering that these guys will be your gaming models....hopefully you won't face the dreaded "painter's burn out" considering how much you need to paint.

Looking forward on what you have in store for us next.

Keep it up

PS I think your eight posting is a record

This is the ride for the above boys. These Trukks are alot of fun, but also a real challenge, because they just have so many little pieces and I am really trying to make all my minis as nice as possible so it took alot of time. This is also the first real vehicle I have finished besides a few Black Templar tanks that were just primed black and drybrushed a little (no offense if that is how you paint yours). Overall this thing was alot of fun, I learned a ton while doing it, (like how awesome the GW washes are) and am very pleased with how it came out.

Thanks for all the kind words and for not poking to much fun at my ridiculously bad blogging skills. I look forward to any comments or suggestions.

jesus that trukk is lush.

I applaud your dedication in finishing that beast. So many nice details, so many nice techniques. I particularly like the one white wheel. I don't know why it struck me but it did, looks really good ofset against the burnished oily metals and the rust. I can see it was a real labour of love.

I went with a dirty yellow on my bad moons - I really like the bright yellow you chose for yours.

Well it wouldnt be a P&M blog without a few wip shots would it? Here is the leader of the group of boyz. He is a converted AoBR nob with a Grimgor Ironhide (from Fantasty Battles) head, and a scratch built power claw made from plasticard, paperclips, florist wire, green stuff, and a few bits trimmed and shaved from other things. I got the idea for the red and yellow checks from a motorcycle in the movie The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I really like the look of it, and can't wait to use it on some other stuff.

Great job, Lead Farmer. The painting and poses look great. I like the hook hand, and your choice of color for many of the details is quite unique. The turquoise is great, and what yellow are you using?

Looks great! quick question on the yellow, how do you get the color so bright? Do you use white primer?

The red and yellow checks are unique, but I think they work well with the colors you are using.

Hey Lead Flamer, I noticed a big ugly mold line on the iron sights for the nob's pistol.

Great Odin's Beard! That is one mother of a mold line. I think it was so bad I mistook it for a piece of sculpted detail. Thank you for pointing it out before I painted it.

As for the yellow, I primed the boys white and the trukk black and honestly I don't think it makes that much of a difference in the finished model. The lighter yellow on the trukk and some of the ork armour pieces was a mix of Bleached Bone and Sunburst Yellow. Probably about five parts Bleached Bone to one part Sunburst. I usually would just put down a big blob of Bleached Bone on my pallet and then add Sunburst in small amounts until in I got a colour that looked like butter. I think I will have to mix up a whole batch of it once I get another pot of BB. For the more golden yellow such as on the dangly fabric between the boys legs you can check here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/310639.page

I am really pleased that my idea of individually unique models that still look like a unit when put together is coming through. I think it really suits Orks, and I feel you learn more because it lets you try new things. Also it is just more fun to paint this way. Thanks for all the positive comments. It is a real boost to my painting drive to know you guys or gals appreciate my stuff.

How to you guys feel about differnent colour vehicles in the same army? I think it would look cool but I do still have doubts. I don't want them to look silly.

I think you could pull off differing colours on the vehicles. As long as there are a few factors that tie the whole force together. For example several could have same the colour panels. Some that didn't could have similar glyphs. If they don't have the same colour or glyph they could have blue fuel canisters and so on.

Or you could paint them all different and it might still work and look awesome

So I say go for it, no reason to have them all similar.

The way to individualize the army and still make it look like a group working together is pick one color that goes with all of your other choices. With mine I picked blue as that is a lucky color for the boyz so everything has some blue in it and the squads have different colors for the clothing but something else is blue same with the vehicles.

Here is the finished Nob ready to krump sum 'umies. Really pleased with how this guy has turned out. I was concerned some seams from the conversion work would show, but now that the paint is on I am happy they have not. I now have my first completed squad for my humble little waaagh! My immediatel goal is a 500 point starter army consisting of another squad of truck boys (which is next), a pair of deffkoptas, and a warboss. If I get bored with this I may take a little orky terrain making break, but that never happens does it.

C&C always appreciated. Stay classy Dakka.
