Hi everyone,

This is my first thread so far, been a big fan of Dakka Dakka but i've mostly been skulking around, posting here and there.

I currently play my own Blood Angels successor chapter - The Emperors Angels (formerly the Hammer Hawks) - and one thing I like to do is make sure every model is plastic. That means most special characters have to be converted from my decent bits collection.

I love converting models, I don't do it much and I'm certainly not a professional, but when I do it I have great fun and love seeing them progress.

So without further ado I've decided to kickstart my series of threads by showing you one of the Blood Angels characters I am currently working on - Captain Erasmus Tycho.

Thanks guys!

As I said i'm no professional and just starting out with my greenstuff sculpting because I invested in the VERY useful tools called Clay/Colour/Paint Shapers. I'm keeping each conversion pretty simple until I can gradually improve my skills.

I agree with the posts above, but.. why has he got a second head on his right knee?

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

I have these models lined up and will be doing them in this order (unless I change my mind);

Mephiston
Commander Dante
Lemartes
Astorath the Grim
Pedro Kantor

Okay, so that is proof that someone else already painted him with a second head within his right knee, but still no reason....

No seriously, it is awesome. I do think that kneepad-face is sticking out a bit too much.

So I seldom pay compliments so take this for what it is. Solid work there, conversion though not too in depth is well thought out, and placed. The face could use a little more in the highlights but I think your onto something good. Also I think if you could slim down the kneepad a little more that would work better for the model, as right now it really sticks out too far.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I agree on the face sticking out too much.

It was a press mold using greenstuff and I think I was just being overly cautious not to trim it too far and end up snapping it.

I'm in the process of trimming it back now and it already looks better.

Will hopefully have some more pics up tonight of the armour getting painted.

Cheers for the feedback and praise all!

Glad you are looking forward to seeing them mate. The key to my conversions though is that they use as many existing bits as possible and therefore only need a little extra greenstuff sculting for extra details. I think this is a perfect way for people to do things so that they can have some awesome looking characters with only a little hard work.

Wow. He looks amazing. Though I do have to say, at first I thought he had a black eye... except it wasn't black and blue.

Judging form that awesome art of the character, it looks like that mask of his could be painted on without too much grief.

I can't wait to see more of your conversion work.

Exactly what I was going for. In fact I was actually singing/humming Phantom of the Opera while I was doing the mask.

Here is the next WIP of Tycho. I've done all his base armour gold, next up is all the details.

As suggested i have adjusted the kneepad and I am much happier with it now.

Excellent work, sir.

I also get amused when the artists don't quite understand what they are painting. Is that a pilot light on Tycho's combi-melta?

The blood tears are actually just a by product of the guy who coloured the orginal image so i'm not 100% sold on putting them in - though you guys can let me know what you think!

Yes, another by product of the colour artist - though the orginal image does have what appears to be a pilot light too. Save the pilot lights for those lame flamers. This is a meltagun we are talking about here.

If this was looking like a death company tycho then I would consider the blood tears, but with the gold base coat just leave the knee pad as is. ( IMHO of course )

The combimelta in that painting also has a telescopic sight that is completely blocked by the bead...

..and I am glad the model has not. Great work.
