the Kans look nice, on the other note i think using small bases on thsoe grot machine really makes it look odd i think the'd be better off on a larger base

And the problem with using a larger base for the burnagrots would be that they wouldn't be legal, as burnas use the small bases like the rest of da boyz

Hey guys and gals, it's been a while since my last update, mainly due to me working on my guard for a tourney (batreps can be found here ) and real life. I've been doing some work on my stompa (no piccies yet), and I also finished my first loota:





I went for a simple but (hopefully) effective paintjob. I'm still debating whether I should add some rust or some more battle damage, but other then that he's done. In the pipeline: the stompa, a second loota, and a classic grot. Enjoy!

Here's number two, hope he gets a chuckle as well. The Tau drone here has gone haywire, to the frustration of the grot, who's dropped his remote and is resorting to more traditional greenskin problem solving







I'm not 100%, happy with the smoke effect, so any suggestions would be welcome. The smoky corkscrew is just plasticcard tubing, so it's easily replaced if I find a better smoke technique.

i think for smoke, it would look better if you GS over that, and made large bubles at the bottom, making it look like it just exploded up

Or you could use cotton or other fiber over part of it... start wide at the bottom and taper as you go upwards... There would be a gush of smoke at blast-off and less as it rises skyward.

Rogue Wolves: maybe a ring of smoke near the bottom?

Gitsplitta: I stayed away from cotton because I don't think it'll last long when gaming, and I'd seen flock used before - different brand I guess. But I agree on the amount of smoke, I'll need to rework that.

In the meantime: Stompa progress! I got the main body all basecoated in orange. I still need to start on the little bitz and the crew though, but like him already, so I thought I'd share:

Kind of a Chinese grot with a book... where on earth did that come from? Don't think I've ever seen that model before...

I think that is a magazine cartridge A big gun crew perhaps?

Arakasi got it right; it's a grot from an old artillery piece. We're talking 2nd ed. 40K here, so quite a while ago .
He'll be used as a regular grot for now, and get promoted to ammo grot as soon as I I have plenty of 'regular' grots.

Brilliant reworking of the Stompa it's great to see you back. I've now got an image of the grot running around causing havoc chasing the drone as well......

I think flock glued to wire makes nice smoke contrails once painted:



Also be careful to keep your angles spiraling and fluid and not too sharp...

I think that is clump foliage as opposed to flock.

The OSL is a bit over-the-top, but I didn't feel like redoing. it's also pretty hard on bright models, may have to try it on a darker model first...

Those are fantastic CK! Over-the-top pretty much defines grot engineering.

i used the really thin (watery) zap a gap glue to harden it so it doesnt flake/peeloff. I then primed it black totally sealing it together.

Do it in a well ventilated area as the glue reacts with the foliage...

OTT osl just means the grots have been running too much power to the headlight

I've recently got back on Dakka and it took me awhile to get around to checking this out again, man, I should not have wasted time, the work you do is awesome and really makes me want to put more paint-time on my models...I won't...but you really make me want to overcome that laziness.
On a side note, that grot with the out of control drone, has to be one of my favorite models I have ever seen posted. Its well painted, modeled, and instead of drawing awe through gruesomeness or violence, its freaking hilarious.
This is still the coolest army, grot for grot, in 40k forums anywhere.

monkeytroll: thank you! I like the drones a lot myself too, more then the looted servitors atm. I may have to redo some of those in due time...

Runna: Thanks! That's quite the compliment . We all have our slower moments, so don't worry about it. In fact, I've been pfetty slow from March till now, but I hope to be picking up some pace again with the holidays.

Now, like I said, things have been slow with work and whatnot, but I'll be having two weeks vacation in a few days, and I'm really looking forward to spending some time on the little guys. I've been doing some random stuff here and there, so I'll be putting up some WIP pics till I manage to actually finish a model.

The on on the right is more or less finished bar some more weathering, the other two still need quite some attention. Still, getting there slowly, hope you enjoy the pics!

Thanks, I'm liking the blue faces, adds some character. I may have to redo the first one and add a blue face there as well.
