Thanks for the shout out! Your terrain is looking great, weathering powders are so much fun to work with. I can't wait to see more of your work and if you are looking for some terrain that fits that style check this out http://wondertrail.com/Hobby-Games/Minature-Terrain/Pegasus-Hobbies-Terrain/PEG4904-Platformer-Large-Miniature-Terrain-Set-by-Pegasus-Hobbies/prod_18107.html

Keep up the great work,

Just got back from a nice walk in the countryside - fresh air blowing out the cobwebs and find some unexpected replies

Scarper - LOL. That really wasn't the intention of the rear shot...I was showing off his designer denims. I'm about to start painting his skin in about.....er after a nice cuppa tea (I've also bribed Abigail with a copy of The Times to keep her quiet).

--How do you seal your terrain, btw?
- I used purity seal* from a great height. Even that blew some of the powder off but it did dull it down and keep most of it in place. I then went back over it will an old and reasonably stiff small dry brush to blend down any clumps (ladder rungs). (I'm probably going to invest in some artists spirits and give them a go at some point)

-- It's awesome that you can get such a nice effect with a fairly simple technique - was it hard to do?
- Not really, thats the best thing about both styles. Here is a run through of both styles....

The red ones are Black Undercoat, Mechrite and Scab red base. Badass Black wash. Dev Mud wash. Dry brush with Scab. Dry Brush with Scab and Blood red. Get an old blister sponge and dip in boltgun metal, wipe most of it off and rub and dab areas as appropriate. Then do the same with black paint but just dab it on lightly (can't really see it in the pic).

The rusty ones are Black Undercoat, Scorched Brown Base, Boltgun Metal dry brush then Mig rust and light rust stippled onto the lowest recesses and lightly brushed over the other areas (this process was mainly dry but a tiny amount of saliva on the brush occasionally helped it stick). Seal with purity seal. Get an old blister sponge and dip in boltgun metal, wipe most of it off and rub and dab areas as appropriate.

Then the final stage, which is the same on both styles. Vallejo model colour Smoke, which is really thick. Water it down and then with a really old and splayed medium flat dry brush I wiped it down from the top to look like greasy run off/streaks. Then in certain areas I got a blob of Smoke then drowned it with water and use gravity to let it run down to the bottom. (pic three left hand bulkhead shows this off best)

I hope that makes sense

Commander Cain - Thanks. No unfortunately you cannot buy it any more. Fortunately I've had this lot since 1995

madmartykmf - Well credits due where credits due. Weathering powders are fun.... At the moment it really is the case of give it a go and if it goes wrong wash it off and start again. The platformers are pretty nice. At the moment I think I'll finish what I've got (you know why )

Scazza - Thank you sir.

* GW purity seal. I've used it for years and only once has it ever misted up.

Cheers guys

I got more painting done this week than I expected.

This guy has been an absolute nightmare since undercoating him. Axe handle was too long...snipped in the middle put back together. Arm joins with massive gaps needed green stuffing. Mould lines galore....I really don't know how I missed them Massive speargun getting in the way of painting. Axe and shotgun getting in the way of painting. Anyway I think I have rushed him a little but he was driving me mad! Oh and he really is not that green irl but that is the best I can do.

Monx Gaskgoomba

Now I think phase one of my scavvy project is complete. All the original models are painted. I will try and get some better shots at the weekend in natural light, including a group shot. Phase two and phase three will be started after I've painted Mary Bones from the Femme Militia range and finished the Snakebite Nob.

Peter

Edit - He now has a surname. A guy on Eastern fringes called Gask pointed out that my scaly looks a bit like a Goombas http://www.gamesetwatch.com/mariomovie9.jpg. Ace

Monx - You had better be bloody good in game, kick and make me loads of creds! (its official I've lost the plot)

The hassel continues.....I've just looked at the pic again and I've not finished him aaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've not painted scratches on the rusty metal plate at the front of the speargun lol

monkeytroll - I'm going to a gig tonight so a group shot will be taken on Saturday between recovery and going to the aquatics centre for some more tropical fishes*. So pics will be up at some point this weekend.

neil101 - Go forth and play Nercomunda....over your manufactorium. Really cheap game to get started on. The rules are free, use these ones at the bottom of the page http://www.anthony-case.me.uk/necromunda.php. I wish I still had the rules for Confrontation, I went through a phase of I wont be needing these 12 plus year old white dwarves.... I'll bin them ooooooooo girls. [hangs head in shame].

madmartykmf - Dude I don't have to build my terrain now....we can play over yours.

Thanks to everyone who has commented (and to those lurking) in phase one. This whole experience of posting stuff on the interweb has become a real pleasure. I'm really glad I found Dakka you guys are brilliant.

Cheers

Peter

* Abigail chose the last lot, this time its my turn. The fish in our tank at the moment are The Sparkling Gourami, it is also known as the Purring Gourami, the Dwarf Croaking Gourami and Green Croaking Gourami, since it can produce a distinct croaking sound. They are driving me mental.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Atf76jhrw and because Abi is deaf she can't hear the little gits.

monkeytroll and weetyskemian44 - Now to end the debate on my mental state and whose fault it is. Now I cannot really blame the fish....they are only doing what comes naturally to them. So I shall have to lay blame elsewhere. Since Abigail chose the fish I shall blame her....ah sweet logic . We are now the proud owners of some cardinal tetras. I am also the proud owner of a nice bruise on my left arm from when I shared my logic with Abigail.

The old white dwarves – I'm still hanging my head in shame. I now know it was wrong and live with the regret everyday. I am still allowed to throw away new white dwarves as they have no real content, right? You can look at the pictures on the GW shopping site anyway.

neil101 – Excellent

Now onto the main attraction a group shot of phase one. The Maggot Eating Cheese Farmers (I think I need to work on the name)

From left to right: Mac, Monx Gaskgoomba, Helpmann - The Juve Catcher, Coleman, S. Mocco, Wint and Our Kidd, Nieder and Hervé

OK, so blaming your mental state on the fairer sex..that I can understand, but in your case I'm suspecting some deep, dark neuroses that you're just not willing to face

The group shots look awesome, a proper 'Wild Bunch' of mutie desperadoes, and have to agree with the others, that terrain looks fantastic to play on.

Vitruvian XVII, monkeytroll - While I do own that piece of terrain I cannot claim any credit for it (other than a few repairs). It was part of the intro table I was talking about a page or so ago. I'm having a game of 40k later (first game I'll have played for a few months I'm not sure whether to use my death guard or eldar) I'll take a shot of it in all its splendour for you then.

monkeytroll - you're right....my dark neurosis.... I have umbiliphilia

Scrazza - Thanks buddy

Chibi Bodge-Battle - Cheers. I've just tried and they really don't taste sweet or tasty. Yuck foundation paints.....spit spit spit

Scarper - Cheers.

neil101 - Thank you. LOL no I left education with a degree (in Park and Landscape management of all things)....I completed that four years ago and the thought of going through formal education again makes me shudder. Thanks for the offer of Confrontation....though I think it might be more appropriate via PM rather than posting here.

Dances with Squats - I wasn't around last night (watching the X Factor not via choice I might add, shudder) so I'm not sure what your post previously said. I assume a thank you is needed for your veiled offer though.

Sorry again PDH (I deleted too much including the comments about how much I loved your work!) Neil101 and I are firm friends now

First of all; I really like your gang members they are excellent and will continue following this thread avidly.

Now.........If there is anyone out there who wishes to join me in my obsession for confrontation but needs some pointers.....ta da.......

* Issue 130 October 1990: Page 10 Necromunda: background covering the setting with a fantastic pic by Rolf Mohr of the Palatine Spire. (This issue also contains the excellent card based combat system called Chivalry).

* Issue 131 November 1990: Page 64 Gangs: a small but fantastic article describing the main protagonists of Confrontation all illustrated with classic John Blanche sketches.

* Issue 132 December 1990: Page 23 Gang creation: rules for creating a gang leader (you) and their gang and stash.

* Issue 137 May 1991: Page 58 Combat rules part 1: rules covering combat, characters, coherency, turns, actions and firing. Following this from Page 75 are the all important Trading rules.

* Issue 138 June 1991: Page 59 Combat rules part 2: final part of the rules covering hand to hand, hit location, damage and survival.

* Issue 142 October 1991: Page 60 Weapon Stats: All the weapon stats you'll ever need (though be prepared for some mental juggling as they were not published in the correct page order).

So that's about it. Now I realise that I have just listed off six issues of White Dwarf that are 17 to 18 years old but you can find them if you look in the right places......your best bet is the wonder that is eBay.

If not PM me and I'll try and help. I warn you though the rules aren't complete and not even in the correct page order in the white dwarfs.........oh and I hope you like lots of basic maths.......

keep it up PDH.

The Death Guard came out to play on Sunday. They were Surprise Assaulted by Red Space Marines*. I won due to the victory conditions but only had 1 plague marine and a rhino left at the end...I think the Red marines should have won they had a whole tactical squad alive! Stupid kill points HQ worth 3, Troops and dedicated transport worth 1 and every thing else worth 2. Now plague marines are troops but they really are elite! Anyway stupid kill points.

But anyway. A picture of the terrain the scavvies were posing on

I like to think of it as an underground Mechanicum facility....or an abandoned one at the bottom of Hive Primus.

Dances with Squats - Thank you for the kind words. I am already itching to get phase two started...but that has to wait for a couple of other models. Cheers for the fantastic information....I now know exactly which White Dwarves I binned I've had a look at the rules and I don't think I'll bother using them (though I did enjoy the couple of games I had in the early 90's)...I'll stick with Inquisitor.

My mum is great she went to a jumble sale and came home with a box of white dwarves for me in I think 1991ish. May they RIP.

fasterthanlight - Now that is a compliment. I shall make sure phase two starts with a bang!

Peter

Sods law. I pop into my local GW on my way home from work and impulse purchase Imperial Armour Model Masterclass (its very pretty). I get home to find a parcel from GW with....

The Wild Warg... I'm a little disappointed. When I ordered them I realised that I'd get six plastic models, what I didn't know then was there are just two different types. So my four scavvy dogs made of these may look quite Déjà vuy ... oh hang on I've got a saw, green stuff, plastic rod, guitar wire and wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mange I'm looking forward to starting these mangy mutts!

As for other updates....I've been slack and done very little modelling or painting over the last few of weeks. I've starting building some more terrain...walkways and some storage tanks. Now I need to know will PVA glue stick thin cardboard to metal and or plasticard? If not does anyone have any suggestions?

My Dark Eldar Codex also arrived but I'm saving that for Sunday evening in the bath. I think it'll be a nice treat after bivouacking on top of a mountain, in the lake district, on Saturday night in November (oh the things I do for fun!!! ).

Yggdrasil - lol
