Sorry, but this just bugged me. As far as I know, the Deffkoptas [assuming that's what you mean] are only S3.

As for myself, I haven't played against Necrons much, but the few times I have, my Manticore has been quite useful. It only took down a monolith once, but other times it helped to force saves on Warriors from outside retaliatory range.

Back in 4th ed, I presume? He should bring them back out now that in 5th ed deffcoptas are incapable of killing a monolith.

First time I played my friend's Necron army with his new glowy Monotlith (we lit it up with Blacklight LEDs so all the green parts glow).

Ghaz got up into combat after his particle whip scattered away from Ghaz. I then rolled to hit, and my friend was thinking it would never work. I penetrated the living metal of the Monolith, and rolled a 5 for the damage. I pretty much had the game wrapped up at this point, so Ghaz and his cadre of Burnas (only one left at this point) sat next to the wrecked monolith. I took the green crystal off of the top of the monolith, and stuck it on Ghaz's head. He was lootin' some new cybork tech ;-)

So what will kill, within the rules of the game, a monolith easily?

Str 10 hits and a fair amount of them.

What can get access to that level of hitting-power?

Close Combat.

Mephisto, Dreadnought Close Combat weapons. It is all about the numbers, being able to land a str10 hit is just much easier with a close combat attack than it is with shooting, as usually I've found str10 largely takes the form of a blast weapon which reduces accuracy some what.

Also, as a minor note, Board denial works well. If your Necron opponent likes to deep-strike monoliths into the fray then deny him good locations, forcing him to either deploy further away or to make a risky move.

The above will always be the same, even when the new Codex comes out as I very much doubt the living metal rule will change and it won't drop from AV14 - So if this is good advice, it should remain good advice.

I just realised that you can go flat out with Valkryies and ram the crap out of it. Str10 hit if you go the full 24". (Can you go above Str10 to figure out what strength the Valkryie gets hit back?)

Valkyries and Vendettas are not tanks, hence cannot ram, and no you cannot get above S10.

Well, after reading the rules, this makes me a sad panda.

Killed one with a TL Lascannon from a Razorback the one time I've faced one with my Space Wolves. Unfortunately, Night Bringer and the Tomb Stalker ate everything else pretty easilly.

Skimmers that are Tanks can, as Ramming is a special form of ARMORED BRUTALITY. However, those two particular vehicles are not Tanks. Wave Serpents are Fast Skimmer Tanks, so can Tank Shock and Ram. Valkyries are only Fast Skimmers, so cannot.
