I did some more work on the model, glazed the text so it works very neatly now (it looks so crude in the image as it's built from the red and all the range disappears in the photo, but this crudeness made me want to make it better :/ ) and darkened the hammer to a dark crimson shade with darker metal, to make the Palette more restrained and the green to pop even more.

... Really worth the extra 15min.

Thanks for feedback.

I am over being pissed with the photos, and now just really excited to finally show how it really is with an eventual new camera next month or so.

hey migsula, have you considered maybe using a good phone camera to show specific details? im not a photo expert by any means, but i can say for my own work, my iphone 4 pics are far superior to the digi cam i have when representing exactly what i painted to digi pic format. There are a few examples on my blog, but my digicam work is not the best anyways so i dunno...anyways, Just a thought. Either way, looking forward to more pics of your phenomenal work!

I was looking through your gallery and noticed that the red came out pretty great (from what I can tell) in this pic:
Spoiler:

I wonder what the difference is.

ps: It also came out great on the newest pic on your blog.

You are absolutely right - those two pics are best examples, but not quite ...soon! Soon I shall get my hands on a G3.

Started work on the 3rd and 4th member.

Soon I've done models fro 3 of the 4 possible "pimp my wizard" models.

Regarding the basing - I imagine them in the dark confines of an Imperial Hive, everything has a rusty, murky feel that supports the palette. I will use the green peeled paint a lot as that ask serves the palette, is a nice detail to find, but doesn't in any way make the basing steal the show.

Shockingly, I've got another quick update. This is before everything is soon packed away for the move and a lengthy brake from the models.

I like the demon in the back the most.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

MIGS!! Congratulations on the post w/ John Blanche! That is absolutely amazing! And even more awesome is the fact that he paints minis like he... paints... paintings...?

Such beautiful minis (especially that box case behind the first one... freakin' awesome). So lucky and a big thanks to JRN too, as we get to see Mr. Blanche's minis AND some convo with you.

BTW- your newest gang is looking awesome. I envy your prodigiousness... I'll be waiting to see how they're all tied together- they are, tied together, yes? The first Jade Vessel gangs and this newest crew?

Thanks.

My thoughts exactly! What a year it's been. We were on to something when we came up with the =I=munda concept and the first gangs... Now it's getting interesting.

There's a huge sense of excitement and lots of results amongst my friends now - all thanks to those wonderful Brian Nelson single frame models. =I= stuff popping up left and right. Somebody does something and then everyone else is looking to outdo that. I've begun working on my own version of the Nurgle guy (possible the the best model released all year). I want something really shooty after consideration - a challenge when the pose oozes close combat. The model is so nice as is, that I may have to buy a second guy just to paint up as is...

Funny you should mention that - I was so inspired by the =I=munda idea and rules that I managed to convince my own gaming group to sign up on the idea. Of course, I'll be the only one painting and converting cos they have neither patience nor talent to (Their words - promise! ), but I'm excited as heck to get to work on these 7 lists I've prepared - from Tau Kill Team, to (My personal fav) Rogue Trader exploration crew and a Nurgle Coven (especially after I saw that Lord fig - what a Big Mutie he'd make, with an enormous crow bar wielded in thos paws!).

Am glad you shared that JB offering too - priceless stuff that harkens back to when I were a wee nipper taking my first steps down the dark walkways of 40K Rogue Trader. JB Was always an inspiration with all of his lovely lovely artwork and fig painting skills.

+++ Motley Crew +++

It cost us dearly. Not all my warriors agreed, or coped. Vhystor killed the Chaplain. Saved me the work I pain to admit. Nanda and Jahrl Wurst were caught by the Grey Knights. The Ordos all together killed 47 of my staff and erased the assets they could find, The Cliffloft on Terra, safe houses on Dressen, Melior and Necromunda. Eventually the Traders were brought down by the Navy. They killed Borsus twice, yet there he stands. I believe all of the Ordos declared us Heretics, Malleus Diabolica Majoris I believe. Quite a career move.

They are wrong.

No team can match our tally. No other Inquisitor meet our ambition.

I still have a heart.

It’s pure! and 6’2”. Sister Valencia, Repentia Illuminati, Fugitive and master pathfinder. Trained seraphim first class, before her incident. She took a wrong turn during the penitence, learned to track and hunt with the Kroot Mercs and ended up in the hive game, syndicate business. She is invaluable. I love her.

The Master can cheat death - a gift in this trade. Peculiar, ancient being. A recluse, with a way with mirrors and seeing. They all want his service, the cults, the ordos... Works for us now. I am permission to cross boundaries and means to get the best tools.

Borsus, the weapon smith. The team always called him Meatloaf. I blame my upbringing for not sticking with the name. Tough as they come, stitched together more times than he can care to count. 300 pounds of instinctive cunning, gangs over school, violence over words, speed beyond all that mass. Over weight, over powered. Borsus has a way with guns. They make him smile.

“Nevvie and Chaide”, nicknamed after the classic refcast strip. Master Orsos made them before he was killed. Psychological warfare, that hollow steel can take and deal a beating. Lewis loves to drop them from the cutter.

Lewis is the pilot. Never see him around. Even with the massive cutter around him. He’s stealth, reflexes and skill keep saving us. Maybe the Master is overkill? Posh and well articulated, Lewis loves his craft and only leaves it to inspect it really.

That’s us, re-focused and re-arming.

+++

I am getting in the mood for this gang! Something has clicked with each of the =I=trilogy projects. My own bar for the final part, the good will be quite high - it needs to be really different and really accurate.

So inspired by John's Guest Starring, and some of the other conversions my mates are doing, I wanted to make something different out of the Nurgle guy. To really stamp personality on him. The pose being all close combaty, I felt a shooter would be a great way to stand out from the Ork Nob two-handed closecombatweapon conversions and alike.

In both of my projects writing short stories has proved a lot of inspiration, so I penned something simple together to get in the mood and dived in.

This will be my favorite model in the gang so far. Sometimes you wait until the finished piece to know if it works or not. This guy is going to work. His physique is going to beautifully underline the differences in the gang. Borsus will be right facing, to flank Inquisitor Silas with Valencia.

Here's a WIP shot from the iPhone, the green-stuff still being worked on.

... For the love of the primarch Migs! you have to stop this cavalcade of inspiring work or I will have no other choice than to make a warband of my own dammit!

In your own words; "-all thanks to those wonderful Brian Nelson single frame models. =I= stuff popping up left and right. Somebody does something and then everyone else is looking to outdo that."
That 'pimp my wizard' thingy was the downpour that filled the bucket.. looks like the last drop that make it all go overboard might come from your paintbrush.

Sheesh with all these sideprojects I will never get done with the alpha legion army, but anyway; beautiful and inspiring work as always migs. Now find a nice gun to stick on that brute.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.

Close! He has a custom built "reaper" style mini gun rocket launcher in one hand, and the other is pointing down, either with a short stocky sword or a smoking revolver. "Eat flux-core rockets"!

I had another round of sculpting and converting today. The trio of him, Alben and Valencia just click! Have to really think how the mirror master fits and plays to that triumvirate in a good way. The Alter daemon is allowed to be one-off freak, displayed elevated away from the squad I think.

Thanks for the comments my friends!

Sure - What's one more blog for a person who hardly has time for the two he already is supposed to be working on? Will just need to get a little more centered on where to start with my =I=munda project and which team to get started on. Am thinking Rogue Trader will be my first effort. I'll sling you a pm with the link.

Fattie looks like a great start so far. Really like the head you've chosen very much and the GS mods you've added - is that from some sort of Grey Knight squad?

Also thoroughly enjoyed the fluff - has a really nice Eisenhorne-type feel.

The rocket launcher sounds cool... will you stay with that elegant eldar look or make some crude bulky version? If you're deciding between sword and revolver i'd take the revolver... that guy just doesn't look like he wants to slice his enemies... maybe greenstuff some brass nuckles to his belt or the hand he holds the revolver

If you go with the revolver, you could do with one of the old revolvers from the original plastic Goliaths (bottom arm with pistol) as its the largest pistol I've seen. I think I've got one at home if you want it?

Might it not be a bit upsetting in the character dynamics if he has both a pistol and a large 'support weapon' in his hands migs? For some reason I find the idea of him wielding some sort of meatcleaver instead of a revolver highly appealing.
