I had a nice two hour painting session today! All the tedious stuff done and on to the part that I love the most about the hobby. So detail, freehand markings, scratches, weathering, metal aging.... the stuff that brings them to life!

BTW - the twist in the pic is not going to be part of the retinue, I was just practicing the red on him. If the inspiration and time presents, I'll repaint them and add him into the 1st part of the Trilogy where he belongs.

Red is a pain to photograph as ambient light can easily change it's hue. One of these days I need to try painting skin like yours... it's stunningly good.

Got myself a full bag of new toys - literally - today. The ones I was writing about in excitement a few weeks earlier.

The rest of Nelson single mini plastics including the undead models but excluding the tzeentch guy I have no plans for yet and the Undead Dragon. I also got the PA grey knights for bits and that cool head and the DE scourges because that DE range is too good to miss anything and I need some of those marvelous wings.

Bloody brilliant models! Extremely impressed, it really feels like another leap again.

Nelsons work is sublime, but still The Undead Dragon is the pick of the bunch for me. Alex Hedström I consider right up there with Brian, Juan and Jes (with Seb Perbet having his moments that almost match), but what sets Alex apart is that he actually knows his CAD and is the most able to get the most out of the new technologies. The detail, 3d structure and crispness of the models is just as good as with the Space Hulk Termies. The armor of the Vampire is super detailed and sharp, and then some of the organic detailing is completely different style, but just as impressive. The Ghoul King is just super cool - and will fit my Alter Daemon plans perfectly. All it needs is hints of bionic enhancements, control nodes, purity seals, a cool base and few select =I= symbols.

I would personally be inclined to focus the effort, and simply get rid of some of the other sculptors who simply aren't good enough in comparison. The high points are so high, it leaves some of the recent WHFB beasts for example looking really lame and blunt.

Concept + Modelling + Painting = Awesome!

But what really amazes me is your imagination!

I noticed you used the Sanguinary Guard body with what looks like a psychic hood? Any chance the back half of the torso is from the GK sprue- I've been wondering whether the back parts of the GK torsos were a neat fit with the Sang Guard front halves for a while now.

I actually cut the hood from the GK Terminators, as they are much more elaborate and curve sharper towards the front. However, the PA ones seem like a good fit. I've yet to take mine from the sprue.

I've let my mind run riot. And had some fun!

The Mirror Master will be a disturbing mix of woodoo priest with a big hat that hides eyeing apparatus (like a swiss cookoo clock) and a locksmith with intricate tools. He cheats death through his craft, and collects psyberskulls to carry his mirrors around him for perfect angles. His breath stinks of hive grade amasec and rotting teeth.

With the Inquisitor, Lord Alben Silas, I had a good paint session again today. Only the cape and metal trickery left to finish. The pattern is there, Now I want to make it look like it's fading as planned. (after bloody long time getting it sharp and smooth first :lol: ) I've also decided I will do a new style and shade on bases for these guys. They are not part of the Legion Rhisienne narrative.

It's funny how some models became your own personal faves. It's been a while since Alpharius and Sgt Jargassor. Alben Silas and his excommunicate motley crew...

You will have to hold on to pics for a few weeks, as the =I= is for the "pimp my wizard" challenge and I'll wait for the DL to reveal them together with the rest of the participants. Hopefully some WIP pics of Mirror Master before that.

Mirror Master sounds creepy as hell. In fact.. he sounds like the Batman villain, Mad Hatter

Thanks guys. Your feedback and excitement motivates me to produce wip pics asap. I will be away for business a week from now though. For a full week.

I did some of my favorite hobby work yesterday - organizing all the bits for coming conversions. I'm spoiled with bits these days as I've slowed down and not doing many armies anymore I can pick all the quality sculpts and go town. Clearly more than half of the models I now buy are WHFB stuff that gets converted into 40k worlds.

My plan for the Wingkins is that they are servitors crafted with only one purpose - to freak you ought. In a universe where every race is designed to freak you ought, I need to push a little harder and be a bit creative how that will happen. Terror drones. Not much flesh remains. Two of them.

And the final model in the retinue will be a Sister Repentia. She will be the anchor. The little good that shows how bad the others are. I'm introducing some new character concepts, so it's good to have the =I= and someone else who is kosher 40k. With a twist of course.

As with Lord Silas, I Painted a bit more on the cape. Looking at him as an individual,I'm thinking I should've gone for a very dark cape instead, but the darker creatures around him, I think my overall vision for the entitity - trilogy part 3 - the bad - works. Only small detail and effects to add on Lord Silas now. So only the most enjoyable parts left + base which always caps of my work and feels immensely rewarding as you know you're almost done. My bases are a little bit like a signature for classical artists.

Behind this work, is =I=munda , a longing for another proper Hammer & Northen & Migs & new guys =I=munda is back, take two, masterful campaign that surpasses all campaigns. I would finish the terrain, and add some more. It's my remaining hobby dream left, much more dear than going to GDs or playing in tournaments again. That one day there is part 2 to our =I=munda adventure. We'd all build two new gangs, or one more, so we'd have an "evil" and "less evil" gang to play with, and have more narrative scope and team play potential. And even more back stabbing and surprises.

Sounds fantastic Migs, can't wait to see it all unfold!

I sincerely hope your wish will come true...

Dan's up there with Blanche as the key image makers of the 40k universe. He just does it with words.

That is awesome news, the Eisenhorn Trilogy is a personal favorite.

Hmm... Did not att all like Ravenor. I guess that the first book was OK, but closure is overrated (Refering to the horrible end).

Having said that, Ravenor has some of the best villains ever.

More Eisenhorn and Ravenor stuff is just awesome! Wasn't there also some audiobook coming out that connected that Keeler character from Abnett's Horus Heresy novels with Eisenhorn? :O

Malika2 - The Keeler Image is a double disc audio drama released 08/12/11. If the artwork (young Eisenhorn) is anything to go by it is set in Eisenhorn's past. I doubt I'll be able to wait for this to arrive as a Christmas present.

Migs - You models are looking pretty sweet too. Just realised I've not commented over here.

I really hope your dream of Jade Vessel part 2 and 3 (gotta think long term buddy we all know good things come in trilogies) comes to life too. I just want to see what Northen and Hammer pull out of the hat!

About the villains, I loved Orfeo Culzean. He was something genuinely different

About =I=munda rules,

There's a nice chap called Jeremy I got to know through dakka, who's done what looks like an awesome and fairly comprehensive set of rules for =I=munda. We obviously used a lot of RPG elements and made up stuff for our gangs, but having something like Jeremy's package to add to Necro core rules is a great way to get more =I=oomph - and definitely something I am looking into.
