Im a little disappointed that this Kickstarter hasn't really exploded yet, i know Tre has made a few mistakes but considering that he is only one man and has no prior experience with Kickstarter i think that a few errors are understandable.

Im hoping over the final week we will see a significant increase in pledgers, enough to at least surpass the current stretch goals and maybe even get high enough that Tre adds the Helsmaidens as a goal. (Fingers crossed!)

Being honest, I think the initial surge was the majority of existing RBG "fans" (the diehards and hardcore, if you will). After that, it's just casuals and people who like his stuff and so forth. The timing is also not great. Even completely ignoring all of the other "small-time" mini kickstarters going on right now at the same time period (pirate goblins, italian roman bloodbowl team, undead orcs, zombies, stonehaven dwarfs, etc) - it's right on the heels of Mantic and Sedition Wars (which is still about to swallow up a ton more of people's money when they eventually send out the pledge manager - I know it's going to cost me $1-200 more) - and directly competing with Reaper's extremely well-thought-out drive.

I'm just about tapped out now. I've basically sworn off any more miniature Kickstarters at this point, and am only willing to go in for Tre's because I like the guy, and Reaper because of Value++++ and I know they're super trustworthy. But really, I'm about over paying hundreds upfront for stuff I'll get sometime at the end of the year, or next year.

I've just backed this

But scipio is right, KS fatigue is definitely kicking in, having backed SW, Mantic and now Reaper and RBG...

Now we're only 2K off Yrsa the Accursed and Fenris

Remember folks these will be FREE to backers at the $110 level and above (and Fenris is $20 in the old metal form)

So any of you hovering at the lower pledge levels might want to think of upping your level

I can't wait for whatever Tre puts up later today (assuming he's not had to stop working to mid the kids etc)

hey Guys,

My apologies for taking so long with the latest update. thanks everyone SO much supporting thus far! I am really excited fro the future of RBG! We have had some rough patches here and there and there are a lot of lessons to be learned! Rest assured though that I am always paying attention and I will be working as hard as I can to make everything of this that I can for you guys!

So, everyone has been asking for a kick starter exclusive figure and it seems that a female HelsVakt Hero is what people are asking for the most I intend to publish a unit of Hels Maidens if the kickstarter goes high enough and what better way to preview that than with a Kick Starter exclusive HelsMaiden Hero? Behold Svetlana! Beautiful and Cruel and utterly devoted to the Bloodthirsty whim of her Dark Matron Svetlana leads her cruel Vixens into the fray!

This figure is immediately available to add to your existing pledge for $8.00. This figure is not included in the standard character options and will not be available after the Kickstarter campaign closes.

And finally Conradt the Crazed. This is the Hero leader of the Varp Krigare. Here we see the brooding Warrior in waiting. Calmly he watches the ascending carnage of battle awaiting the word of Yrsa herself. At her whim and blessing does he transform into the lunatic killing whirlwind of the Varp. No HelsVakt army is complete with out such a massive brute of a slaughterer champion!

This is one part of the two figure pack that is released after the $35,000 stretch goal is met. Once released this character will be available as a character option. But will be included for free in all Fjarde ( $110 ), Femte ( $145 ), and Sjatte ( $185 ) pledges.

There is much much more coming in the next few days. More art, more figures more stretch goals and hopefully more Pledge options! Thank you all for your enthusiasm and contributions!

ALSO if you have not yet switched your pledge over from the original more confusing pledges( those which are now limited ) please do so so that I can delete the old pledges. You do not need to up your pledge to switch over and you will still receive the same stuff. The switch merely allows me to eliminate the confusion.

Cheers all!

I wish I could jump into this Kickstarter so bad... I've been looking for an excuse to buy from Red Box before, but now I'm completely tapped out from SW and Mantic.

The timing is just painful.

Could the OP update the thread title with "kick starter exclusive sculpt released" or something similar?

Shaman lady and big angry wolf are funded and FREE at $110 or over!

I think we can definitely hit $35,000. Would love to get past 45,000 to the cavalry, but I think those and the undead might have to wait for another kick starter.

Here's a picture of the Varp Kigare, the crazed berserk that serve as the bodyguard of Yrsa the Accursed (Image grabbed from the Red Box Games website, I've added the modesty boxes)

this is the $30,000 stretch goal we're after next, 4 figures, 2 watch mode, 2 warp mode

I have the feeling Tre MAY tweaking the design on these (I can't remember where I got this info from, so I COULD be wrong), so the picture may not be 100% right, but should give you a good idea of what to expect

Edit: the change MAY be loincloths for the warp forms from on of the posters on the KS (again this is not direct from Tre, so MAY be wrong)

I feel like I have been living in a box. I just discovered the RBG kickstarter! I am a huge fan of Tre and RBG. Tre is a fantastic artist, and the way that he runs RBG is a breath of fresh air. Tre is passionate and incredibly dedicated to both his products and his customers.

I'd love to see the appeal of RBG grow, and I am very excited about Tre's move toward plastics. If Tre is involved, you can trust that the end product will superb.

As for game rules, I don't think that the market is too glutted for a new medieval fantasy skirmish ruleset, especially if it is creative and engaging. I think RBG could benefit from having an established context within which to use Tre's excellent models. I am very much in favor of the slow trend towards more realistic proportions in fantasy miniatures. What I love most about Tre's work is how his models have a very believable, lived in feel. Much like Zombiesmith's Quar (which is admittedly an odd comparison on the surface), a sense of history and realism pervades Tre' s work which makes his fantastic universe a very convincing fiction that threatens to suck you in at the slightest contact.

Unfortunately, the progressive nature of Tre's work makes his models seem slightly out of sync with models from other lines in the industry. I buy RBG models because I love them, and I try to find uses for them, but I would leap at the opportunity to use them in their own discrete context, and I think it would make it easier to introduce Tre's work to others. I also want to see more fluff, and I think a game would help to introduce the breadth and depth of Tre's universe to the fans.

Kirasu: Have we fallen so far that we are excited that GW is giving us the opportunity to spend 58$ for JUST the rules? Surprised it's not "Dataslate: Assault Phase"

AlexHolker: "The power loader is a forklift. The public doesn't complain about a forklift not having frontal armour protecting the crew compartment because the only enemy it is designed to face is the OHSA violation."

AlexHolker: "Allow me to put it this way: Paramount is Skynet, reboots are termination attempts, and your childhood is John Connor."

Edit - found it on the frothers forum rgb kickstarter thread. He says he's modified the berzerkers to have loin cloths.

Yep the Warp forms now have fur loin cloths drapde abotu their waists. And the Waiting forms have similar adjustments as well.

I am really very excited about the way the Kickstarter is progressing! I do VERY much look forward to seeing what can be added in to this and what that may mean for the next KickStarter which I am plannign out now. Not to worry I will be certain to deliver on this first KS campaign FIRST before introducign another.

Rules are a very big priority for me. I wanted to try to fund the rules development through a KickStarter Campaign but I feel liek it may be best left to me to use what funds I can gather from the profits of this Kikcstarter and the next to fund the rules development. It may atake a little longer to get it doen that way BUT there won't be an issue of trying to sell a WIP system for a Finished product price.

I have professional reputable help enlisted to make it go, I just need to get with this person and hammer out the gaps that my current work has left and get them paid to make it worth their while to make the neccessary adjustments and wrap it up all nice and neat.

Tiem will tell btu I think this is MUCH mor eof a reality now than just a possibility.

That's exciting news Tre.
I think crowd-funding a complete unknown is always going to be tricky, but you can definitely use Kickstarter as a launch pad for a more fleshed out project, especially if you tie it to your established forte! New fantasy rules and a faction starter set of RBG minis, yes please!

I could be wrong, but I believe mikhaila stocked a bunch of these models at his store, and when I was up there with Wehrkind/Jin/Boss_Salvage... they descended on that wall like kid's in a candy store. mikhaila was having a big sale because of what you mention here- the models just don't quite seem to fit in with other lines, but are so beautiful on their own.

I would be interested in seeing rules for these models... perhaps starter boxes to go with it. They certainly look like nice sculpts, just not out of proportion enough to fit into a GW game.

When I bought mine (quite a large order), I got them

a) Because they're very nice sculpts
b) The "justification" was to use in LotR games.

I've just added a new blog post displaying the size comparisons with various Dwarves.

There's a few more pics there, but this will give you the gist of it:

L-R: D&D, Reaper Bones, Old GW (Bugman!), Red Box, GW-LotR, New(ish) GW, Reaper Warlords.

Wasn't able to dig out the Avatars of War or the Mantic, or find a more recent GW, but I imagine they're both essentially the same as modern GW, which wouldn't be much different to the miner there.

Mikhaila did buy a bunch, but he could never sell them. Last time I saw they were pretty heavily discounted. They're great models, but don't fit with most other ranges of models and I think that hurt them at the store.

I picked up a few last time I was in and they are really great models.

Tre's models have a gritty, approachable realism which tends to make other models seem cartoonish when they stand side by side. Personally, I think this is a good thing. I would like to see fantasy miniatures move in the direction of Tre's work, rather than in the opposite direction. The unfortunate byproduct is that Tre's work, being inconsistent with the current work of prominent manufacturers, tends to suffer as a result.

When I show Tre's models to my gaming friends, I get a lot of positive remarks, but there is the inevitable question of what you would do with them. They make fantastic single models for something like a table top game of dungeons and dragons, where the artistic inconsistencies between various models has little impact because each model is is more about representing the specific character, rather than creating a cohesive visual effect on the table top. You can use them in fantasy skirmish games like Mordheim, but you basically have to do an entire warband out of Tre's work to get a nice, cohesive look. When the RBG range was less robust, that could be difficult. (Now you can easily do Mercs, Warriors of Chaos, Goblins, Dwarf Treasure Hunters, Shadow Warriors, etc. etc.)

You could use his models for a larger scale wargame, as consistency across an entire army can often make inconsistencies with an opponent's army insignificant. But the RBG range has only recently grown to the point where you could build ranks of troops. As Tre points out, the move to plastic will drop the model cost, and make larger units more financially feasible, which is awesome.

A set of rules for the models will hopefully cut into the problems of cross range aesthetic compatibility by giving prospective customers a use to which the wonderful models may be put. This, combined with cheaper plastic models and an expended range will hopefully work to build momentum for RBG.

In other words, I think Tre is working in a very positive direction, and I personally think it is remarkable that he has rigidly maintained the internal consistency of his product line for all of these years. This is why I think people should support Red Box Games in whatever it does. RBG has had and will continue to have a very positive impact on the hobby and the industry. So I say support RBG. Buy products that you like, even if you don't have an immediate use for them. Paint them up, enjoy them, use them if you can, and keep supporting RBG. One day when RBG starts to explode, you'll have your Dverger army all ready to go, and you'll know that your support helped to make it happen.

They also may sell better elsewhere (D&D crowd like you say). Mikhaila had to stop carrying Infinity but it sells great around here.

I need to have a use for models before purchasing now... But I love what you are saying, weeble.

Weeble THANK YOU!! It has always been my goal to create something that clearly stands apart. I see nothign wrong with the exaggerated look of GW or Reaper but I think that there should be more variety in the look of table top gaming. I understand that people want to expand their current collections but it is my hope that peopel will see somethign special in RBG and decide that a second collection is worthwhile.

The way the Kickstarter is going is VERY encouraging for me. I am already working on the next Kickstarter and I am taking all lessons learned from this first effort to make the next effort pay off to it's fullest potential. Your support will absolutely be worthwhile. I am not going to walk away from this and the more encouraged I am by the support of gamers and hobbyists at large the mor eemboldened I am to push the envelope ever further.

I am very sorry to hear that Mikhalia has had such troubles moving the line. Hopefully as the range develops and the game comes to fruition retailers like Mikhalia and Noble Knight ( the only two I know of that carry the line right now in the US ) will find more and more of a market for the RBG range.

In the meantime I want to say thank you to those of you who have chosen to step outside the box with me. I am honoured.

Cheers guys,

Tre'

Tre has uploaded an image of the re-sculpted 'guard' forms of the Varp Kigare berserkers that form the current stretch goals with all new added loin cloths (so we no longer have to 'think of the children')

These loin cloths will also be on the 'warp' forms (no images as Tre sent the figurs off to the mould maker before snapping one... Doh!), but you can use your imagination and the images I posted further up the thread to work out what they'll be like.

We only need $1232 to unlock these beast of men

so keep pledging

No problem at all, Tre'. I think it comes from both ranges being "true 28mm" with realistic proportions. Always happy to point out how well they fit in with LotR as it gives wargamers a good option to use them in games (that might not be as immediately obvious as WHFB, etc).

Yeah, my RBG Goblin Shaman figure fits in perfectly with my LOTR Moria Goblins scale wise, and the Dwarf I got from RBG looks great next to Gimli. I also have a Half Blood, and when put with other models in his scale, he looks really imposing. I love the more realistic scale that RBG has, I just hope it's not an impediment to Tre's success, because it's something I want to see more of!

Hello all!

I know this is a bit behind schedule but I wanted to get the progress thus far on Blutulf up so everyone can see it. This guy is just about done as you can see. Just needs his back trophies head, hands, weapons, rivets, skullz and spikz and he is finito!

I will have him done by tomorrow morning and will then be on to Svetlana, Ulbrecht, and Conradt. I was working on the Cavalry models but I have discovered that the horses I had sculpted are all too small. So I have had to go back and begin again. I am going to work up some decent concept art to show you where I am going with them and if it is your wish I will put them up as the stretchgoal succeeding the Undead. For now though here is Blutulf!!

Again MANY thanks for all your support thus far!

Cheers!

We just hit the stretch

The Varp Krigare Berserkers are selectable as a rank pick, consisting of 2 guard form models and 2 warp form models

We are now in pursuit of Conrad Crazed the berserker champion (2 character models, 1 guard form, 1 warp form) :

Target $35,000

If we hit the target those at the $110 level get a FREE Conrad (not sure if it's both forms or your choice of one)

Tre confirmed that everyone at $110+ gets one Conradt the Crazed in his guard form and warp form FREE.
If you want to add another Conradt then each form will take up a character slot, or cost $8 each to add.

Hoping we see something else thrown in, some unique pledge levels or at least the next stretch after the Undead.
It's a bit of a shame that we had the Aenglish involved, as much as I love the sculpts and am happy I'm getting some. We could be at Conradt and be pushing for the Undead right now...although maybe the Aenglish got us here so who knows.
